Here are some photos from the NY Film Festival premiere of the Coen Brothers’ Inside Lleywn Davis. This film already premiered at the Cannes Film Festival back in May, but now they’re gearing up for the wide release of the film, so plan on seeing more of Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac and Garrett Hedlund. Unfortunately for all, Oscar Isaac was not at the premiere this weekend – he’s THE STAR too. Carey and Garrett are just supporting players.
Anyway, Carey wore this cute little black dress with some kind of built-in gilded choker. You know who could have pulled this off? Naomi Campbell. In fact, I’m pretty sure Naomi has at least five versions of this dress. On Carey, it does look a little bit like someone forced her to wear it – she’s slouching and she just looks uncomfortable with exposing that sliver of skin at her waist. But I do love her newly brunette hair – she’s gone back and forth between blonde and brunette throughout her career, and she’s one of those rare people who looks good as both, I think.
I’m also including photos of Carey’s husband Marcus Mumford (of Mumford and Sons) and Garrett Hedlund. Surprisingly, Garrett looked very pulled together, handsome and clean at this event (usually he looks like he just rolled out of bed at his commune). His hair flip made me chuckle. Also: I really do think he and Kiki Dunst are on the rocks. But we’ll see. Kirsten wasn’t there to support him, which is weird because she usually comes out to support him.

I think she hates posing on the red carpet. She’s said she refuses to put her hand on her hip.

This bugged me so I looked up red carpet shots of her back to An Education. She was so bubbly and chic and then she got married. It was like a shade fell over her. Poor girl.
I read that she hates her smile, which is why she doesn’t smile often when posing for pics. My mother usually does a closed-mouth smile in pictures because her dad knocked a couple of her teeth out with a broom stick when she was a kid.
She has fake teeth there, but she’s always been self-conscious about it in pictures.
I understand that this is not her favorite part of the job and I love her more for not working the carpet like crazy. But she could at least smile (unless she has a background like your mother, TOK – totally understandable then).
I kind of figured that the sour face was because her husband was there and she’s afraid he’s going to knock a few of her teeth out. 🙁
Oh come on. The blind item that people guessed was Carey’s husband was just that.. a blind item that was probably 100% made up bullcrap. They’ve been friends since childhood and I seriously doubt she would stay with an abuser.
Samesies, she always looks sad. I think it’s just the way her face is. Combine that with the geriatric hair dos and she always looks like a sad old woman.
Her husband was recently caught in a sleazy strip club with his bandmates and they were thrown out, maybe that’s why she looks like the lights are off inside her recently. She used to actually smile back in the days when she was in her break through movie ‘an education’.
@ A.. it was the Clairmont Lounge and honestly while it might be sleazy it’s kind of a novelty/tourist spot. That is a hard joint to get thrown out of..

For me, I associate Carey Mulligan’s look with her expressive eyes. When she smiles, she looks very different. Not bad, just different. I think she’s beautiful smiling or “sad”.
I have a tooth problem and rarely show my teeth when smiling. After so many years, it becomes an unconscious habit.
She always looks so uncomfortable on the red carpet. Can’t wait to see her and Oscar Issac in this movie, even though I am not a Coens fan, but I love her and Oscar as actors.

To me, she is one of the most beautiful actresses of the younger generation, along with Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley. And she’s crazy talented.

GH is so hot. I hope he and Kiki are ok- I know she’s more famous than him but u always felt like he was a great catch for her crazy. CM is darling but the dress looks too big and she looks close to tears, as usual. Love that she’s married to Marcus! Remember when she dated Shia?!? Major upgrade.
I think the brunette hair ages her. She already looks old for her age and this makes it even more so.

I think she’s still way too thin! I always want to give her a hug when she appears at red carpet events. Since hubby’s band is taking a break, maybe the two of them can go cocoon somewhere nice.
