We haven’t talked about Ke$ha much lately. Chances are that we won’t post about her again for awhile, so enjoy it while it lasts, Animals. Isn’t that what she calls her fans? I’m still an Animal, btw. I just don’t like that Ke$ha did gross stuff like drinking her own pee to promote her latest album. She doesn’t need to do that stuff, you know? Just let the music stand on its own. Drop some pretty videos. Make some wry, witty remarks in interviews. Done.
At the moment, I’m a little upset about Ke$ha because she’s been begging for attention on social media. It feels like it’s gone beyond the usual Rihanna/Miley Cyrus begs too because Ke$ha doesn’t usually resort to such measures. Of course we’re blurring the goods, but you can see the unedited shots on Instagram account.
This goes beyond the usual Ke$ha antics. When she hit the scene a few years ago, I loved that she was a different kind of pop star. Looks didn’t seem to matter to her. Now she looks the same as everyone else. Maybe this is just a plug for her personal trainer, who is currently bragging about how he whipped that butt into shape. Ugh. One of the weird things about all of the Miley Cyrus fallout is watching how other popstars react and adjust their own behavior. Is this Ke$ha’s way or responding to Miley?

I should have said, “I’ll never see her as attractive or hot as long as she keeps up the gross behavior and look she has had since she made it big”.
It just makes me sad that young women feel the incessant need to show their asses, crotches and tits to the world to obtain some sort of distorted attention and validation. It sucks.
There were young women (and older women) like this before, they just didn’t have Instagram and the other mediums that there are now.
They were always there, though.
Obviously this desire is nothing new – however, the ability to expose one’s self instantly and continuously to the entire world is new – and it creates a whole new dynamic of deception with the focus being on one’s tits and ass as a chief means of self instead of intelligence, thoughtfulness, talent, creativity, etc. It just simply bums the shit out of me.
So. We entered a new age of selling the body in trashy, pathetic and degrading ways for attention and fame.

What Miley and Kesha are doing is not new at all. This crap is decades old. Miley’s doing it for money and her career, most likely. All that stuff she did was a bit too calculated for it to be genuine. I still wouldn’t like it if it was genuine, though; I can’t stand her. Kesha has been wearing unflattering clothes and showing her boxy body this whole time she’s been famous, and beforehand, most likely, because she didn’t come up with her schtick the night her first hit got big.
The only thing different about what these two are doing from what was done before, is using different platforms to get their “work” out. That’s all. Everything else is old news.

It just seems like it used to be a little less… how to say… gross? Exaggerated? Degraded?
As in, I vaguely remember women being trashy and in-your-face when I was a kid, then it seemed to get more subdued, and then it started getting gross again. But it really boomed right now with Miley’s antics, I think.
Even Gaga and Perry were not this sexually cheap and gross; I think they were concerned with being “pretty-sexy and naked” or “avant-garde-sexy and naked”, not just “gross and naked”. That is kind of a new thing. What an advancement.
Maybe this is Miley-esque tacky and trashy, but, this kind of exploitation has been going on for a few decades now. Its changed with time and the women/girls are getting younger and younger and the bar is set higher (lower) and higher (lower). ….. Either way, it IS unspeakably sad.
I don’t have a problem with using sex/nudity to sell one’s music etc. I have a problem that it seems to be the only way women can really make it in the industry, and therefore they dont have much of a choice in the matter
Well, its the consumers who shape the industry (even if that is shared by the skuzzies in ties who also want to extort the women for personal purposes) so by buying into their behavior, we are reinforcing this trend.
Not you or I– I dont even listen to the regular radio let alone download or buy any of this. I actually dont know Mileys voice cos Ive never heard it and I dont want to any time soon. But…. jus sayin… 😛 it didnt get this way purely accidentally.
There are plenty of women who make it in the industry without doing this stuff.

Preach! Sadly, it works. The more exposed a singer is, the more buzz she gets. And, please, no one respond about “slut shaming.” It’s my opinion and I’m tired of looking at marginally talented singers parade their crotches out so you won’t notice how utterly mediocre they are.

I’m disappointed in her. She never tried to be overly sexy, she just was her own person with her own style, her own fan base and was who she was. I’m very let down that she has cheapened herself.
I honestly think this is about showing off her new shape. you know when you lose weight and everything looks better and suddenly you want to be in pics?

If they had it in magazines and on film, they would have put it on the internet. And that’s just taking into account the magazines and films. There were groups for “other things” in those days, just as there are today, and it’s likely that they would have used the internet for that as well.
They had the smut, they just didn’t have the technology that there is now.
I’m so surprised by all the people who are saying the are disappointed. These pictures aren’t any different from what she was doing before.

Another thing she has in common with Miley: When she’s just singing a country song (with minimal accompaniment and studio processing) you can hear the talent.
Whatever pay the bills, I guess? I mean, if she’s not losing sleep over degrading herself on Instagram, then more power to her, right?
I’m not condoning her behavior (it’s sad and pathetic, just like Miley) but it seems like she’s doing what she’s gotta do to keep the train rolling.

Side note. I wish auto tuning never came around. Those with talent that could stand on their own are pushed aside for those who willingly disrobe and promote an sexed up image while electronics fill in for talent.
