Gisele Bundchen’s Vogue Paris editorial: stunning, awful or totally dated?

Gis1

I’ve been waiting for these images to come in for whatever reason. I guess I always enjoy looking at Gisele Bundchen editorials. Gisele covers the November issue of Vogue Paris, in an editorial shot by Inez & Vinoodh. I’m not really crazy about Inez & Vinoodh in general – I think they’re pretty overrated as fashion photographers. It’s like they come from the Mario Testino School of Fashion Photography, which is to say “obvious,” bordering on boring. I have to admit, I do like these photos. They’re giving me a late ‘80s, early 90s supermodel vibe. Gisele is always good at that – think whatever you want about her, but her look and her profile as a model does mean that she’s a throwback to the golden age of supermodels.

Gisele is also becoming something of a real estate mogul, jointly with her husband Tom Brady. Tom and Gisele just completed their massive “green” mansion in LA and they’re still working on their Massachusetts home, and now Page Six reports this morning that they’re picking up a luxury Manhattan apartment:

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen are splurging $14 million on an apartment in the storied One Madison Park glass tower, Page Six can exclusively reveal. The Patriots’ quarterback and the top-earning supermodel have gone into contract on a three-bedroom, full-floor condominium on the 47th floor, we’re told. A source said: “They went for the model apartment, which is a full-floor private residence with amazing city and river-to-river plus park views.”

A previous listing said the apartment boasts breathtaking views north and west, including a vista directly up Madison Avenue.

“It will allow Tom Brady to look down on Gotham like Batman,” another source quipped — which will surely unnerve many Jets and Giants fans.

The interior of the dazzling duo’s apartment, crafted by Danish designer Thomas Juul-Hansen, boasts solid quarter-sawn white oak plank floors and oversized doors, a master bedroom with his and hers closets and a master bath with a soaking tub and custom double vanities, perfect for the world’s most beautiful couple.

The glistening tower on East 22nd Street ran into financial woes after it hit the market in 2007. After a succession of foreclosures and lawsuits, the nearly empty tower was rescued by Related Companies, which attracted prospective buyers including Leonardo DiCaprio and fashion mogul Vera Wang, who looked at the $50 million triplex penthouse on the 58th to 60th floors.

Bündchen, the world’s highest-paid model, who earned $42 million last year, according to Forbes (while hubby Brady made $48.3 million), previously owned a triplex penthouse on West 11th Street, which she unloaded for $4.4 million. He had a condo at Time Warner Center, which he sold for $17.5 million.

They also have a sprawling, 14,000-square-foot mansion in LA they built from the ground, and are currently building a similar-size manse in Brookline, near Boston. A rep for Brady said, “He doesn’t comment on his private life,” while reps for Bündchen and Related didn’t get back to us.

[From Page Six]

I love talking about/thinking about real estate. If you had Gisele-and-Tom money, would you spend that cash building mansions from the ground up? Or would you buy already-existing properties and fix them up with your unlimited budget? The idea of building from the ground up scares the hell out of me, so I would probably buy existing properties and fix them up and renovate them to my (luxury!) needs. Also: is there really a need to have huge properties in LA, NY and Massachusetts? I get that they spend half the year (or more) in Massachusetts, so that home is needed. But NYC and LA? Ugh. Maybe they’re just investment properties.

Great body, shame about the face.

    • Kiddo says:

What? Is my sarcasm detector off?

    • Bubbles says:

I find her face plain at best, ugly most of the time.

      • paige says:

bubbles – i agree about her face…but the styling of this shoot is ‘soft’ make -up and soft textures which take the edge off that face of hers…this is the best she can look….

      • Evelyn says:

Agreed, her body is insane, her face is really basic

      • jelly says:

Dear, God. This is next level girl snark.
        :smh:

      • MaiGirl says:

This is the prettiest I have ever seen her look, but I agree. Her face has always looked really masculine to me, but I could go along with calling her striking, because her strong bone structure photographs well. She is a good model.

      • karen says:

Agree!! Plain and boring. Ugly, at best.

      • Jillmunroe says:

I thought i was the only one. You certainly dont need to be Grace Kelly or Jackyn Smith beautiful to be a super model. But what a body !

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

I agree, her face is nothing special. She can border on masculine at times like Katrina Witt or Princess Stephanie of Monaco.

Actually, I think her husband is way prettier.

    • Bree bree says:

I agree wholeheartedly! I just don’t even find her pretty at all. It’s like the story about the emperors clothes and no one but me notices she’s not gorgeous.

  2. Quite pretty photos, and I am far from a Gisele fan. I quite like the one in black with the Ewok hood.

  3. LZ says:

Did they get these concepts from the rejected ideas for America’s Top Model episodes?

    • eliza says:

      Lololololol. Best comment of day!

    • V4Real says:

      Haha love it.

    • Belle says:

Exactly what I thought about the last photo… which I kind of, sort of, love… I think. Definitely modeling H2T, right? Head to toe, with the ‘broken doll’, angular kind of look…

I am loving the last photo for some reason though…. in a weird way. Not really getting the hand grabbing her in some of the other photos… wtf is that supposed to be?

      • Stef Leppard says:

What is going on with the hand?! It’s like a weird zombie hand or something. Run, Gisele! Don’t let it get you!
On a side note, I like the striped onesie picture, that’s my fave.

    • Carolyn says:

      hehe great comment.

  4. Dawn says:

Well I really love the last picture and I love the cover. The others are just good. Not great or unforgettable, just good.

    • Belle says:

Yaaay, I’m not alone in my weird love of the last photo! I posted right above before reading your comment. 😉

  5. tracking says:

Gorgeous pics. Regardless of negative comments on her looks, I think she has supermodel charisma in spades and distinctive features (which I like).

    • Sabrine says:

If she makes $42 Million a year as a model there are those who think she is beautiful and perfect, and are willing to pay her a lot of money. It’s her deal not mine. If she can make that kind of money then more power to her.

  6. Maria says:

    I’ve never understood the hype.

  7. Eve says:

She’s very good at striking poses but I find this editorial to be surprisingly…boring.

  8. Meaghan says:

I hate the one with striped pants. And in New York there aren’t many opportunities to build from the ground up. And if I had that kind of money I sure as hell would be buying property like that. Why not, what else are they going to do? And I’m sure they both spent quite a bit of time there with their professions, why stay in a hotel?

  9. Anna says:

I love that she is so physical and so versatile, in what she does with her face and body.

  10. paola says:

I can’t stand the woman but she looks stunning in this photoshoot. Love the hair.

  11. Timber says:

    The cover photo is beautiful.

  12. Reece says:

It’s says “les duex visages de Gisele” mais seulement un visage!
I like the blue dress though and random hand is Random.

  13. Birdie says:

Why is someone touching her arm in two pics?

  14. Jackson says:

I think the pics are really nice – some of which look ‘retro’ to me versus ‘dated.’ I guess it’s how you choose to look at them.
And I would definitely buy properties in LA and NYC if that’s where they spend the off-season. Why would they want to stay in a hotel for big chunks of time when they can stay in their own homes?

  15. Sunny says:

Not sure I love the styling on these pictures… she is gorgeous though.

And why property in LA? The spend a lot of time out there because Tom Brady’s ex Bridget Monynahan lives out there and the share custody of their son Jack. I don’t think their custody arrangement is quite 50/50. Anyway, the idea of being out there was to spend more time with Jack in the off season. No clue about why they bought a place in new york though.

Plus Brady is from California and has a ton of family there.

    • phillykatt says:

I read that our own Michael Vick was the most unpopular athlete in the country, but Tom Brady was up there too. Is it because he and his wife seem too perfect? Do people perceive her as beatch? Is it because he treated his Baby Momma Bridget like crap? Interesting.

      • blue marie says:

Was this before or after A-Rod? I would think Vick was liked better than him. While I have never/will never agree with what Vick did, I don’t hate him.

And I think part of the problem with Brady is that he does seem perfect. I know he’s not but dang give him the football and 20 seconds on the clock and 8 out of 10 times he’ll give you a touchdown.

And I know you didn’t ask me, but I wanted to add my 2 cents anyway, have a lovely afternoon.

      • taxi says:

Bridget & Tom had already split before they knew she was pregnant. Did you expect them to marry for the sake of the baby only to divorce after the birth?
Tom supports his elder son & Bridget very well, both financially & emotionally. Giselle appears to be a kind and caring stepmother, too.

  16. iCali says:

How many times do we have to see the same thin body pose over and over in different outfits? Its boring!

  17. Sassy says:

I don’t get her appeal. Great body though.

  18. mzizkrizten says:

    Whats with the random hand?

  19. Naddie says:

Love her not-perfect skin. But I just hate when people say she represents the brazilian women’s beauty, when the only resemblance is the skin texture.

  20. butch says:

the cover is late ’70 early ’80. Love this retro shoot. Bundchens is the classic model. Perfect for this shoot.

  21. booboocita says:

The first white dress looks like someone stole Grandma’s chenille bedspread and made a wedding dress with it.

  22. Happy21 says:

I really like the last photo but that’s it. I think it’s the dress and shoes and the hair and the fact I can’t really see her face. It’s odd, I never found her unattractive until the last few years. Not too sure what happened there but she’s not suffering because I think she’s f-ug, bitch is still RICH!

  23. Nev says:

    Bad cover.

  24. Nessa says:

I don’t have many nice things to say about her personality, but as a model… GODDAMN!!!! Girl has got it. This is another beautiful pictorial from her. I think that cover is stunning.

  25. Maggie says:

I think she’s incredible looking. Body face, hair the whole package.

  26. poppy says:

14,000 square feet of home is hardly green.

  27. Christoff says:

I only like the cover…which reminds me of how I just loved the late eighties fashion magazines, like when ELLE–US came out and they did such rich looking editorials, and the models were lovely and celebs did not do ads or get the fashion house contracts (certainly not like today). All right, you have heard this all before….

Earnings or not, I find GB totally unspectacular and uninspiring. I do not get “It” from her–there is no “there, there” to quote the words of a famous author in another context–and her face to me is unintelligent.

I loved the Steven Meisel shots of L Evangelista or the von Unwerth type shots of Claudia Schiffer, etc back when. Not to sound nostalgic or dated but I have yet to see anything really surpass the fun and attractiveness of that “era”. I felt I was really looking at the glory of being feminine and womanly when it came to those particular pairings of models and photographers. They made the clothes “work”, everything was sexy, classy, seductive and “clean” (not jaded, heroin-ish or Terry Richardson weird)all at once.

This one has never inspired fashion to me. She just looks like a big, bored, gangly volleyball player, one slightly doped.

    Don’t get the hype–or the fees–at all

    • taxi says:

The woman wears clothing very well & that’s her main purpose. Her face? Attractive enough, interesting bone structure. It’s all a matter of individual taste.
I find Turlington gorgeous & see nothing remotely attractive about Evangelista’s over-arched brows & giant flaring nostrils.
It’s ok that not everyone likes the same look.

  28. jane16 says:

Gorgeous. FGS, yes, bring back the supermodels. Am so sick of seeing actresses and ugly reality tv stars that are photoshopped to death in ads.

  29. Maria says:

I never found her face pretty, but I found it INTERESTING.

Then she killed it with that nose job. So sad.

  30. jane16 says:

She kinda looks like a blonde Ava Gardner on the cover pic.

  31. Lauren says:

I kind of love it, it’s all so BIG. The cover is definitely awesome.

  32. Cosmicgirl says:

    She’s perfect!

  33. Cinderella says:

She’s still at the top of her game, but Tom is 5-2.

  34. Mazunte says:

I find it hilarious when I read comments calling this women “ugly.” You might be kidding, right? This woman is absolutely gorgeous. Period!

But these photos are terribly outdated.

  35. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

I don’t like her but I do think she’s gorgeous. However, these photos are dated and embarrassingly awful!

  36. Aurelia says:

Does she still have implants? Albeit smaller ones than before?

  37. afrooz says:

    wow! how very Dalidaesque!!!!!!
