Duchess Kate lovingly gazes at Prince George in new christening portrait: lovely?

george2

Clarence House has released another portrait from Prince George’s christening. I don’t really understand why we got four “official” portraits and then we get one additional “private” one days later, but I’m not complaining. I really, really love this photo. This photo makes me very hopeful that Kate is a great, hands-on mom who lights up in the presence of her first child. Look at the way George is looking at his mom! And look at the way she’s looking at him. They seem very bonded. Meanwhile, William is the grumpy one. It’s like he’s inspecting a new gymnasium or something. All business. Apparently, George’s parents were somewhat surprised that he was so well-behaved for his christening:

Sweet baby George! One more photograph from Prince George’s special christening day has been released! The royal family celebrated Prince George’s christening at the Chapel Royal at St. James Palace in London on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The following day, four beautiful snapshots were released from the historic occasion.

The latest photo, taken yet again by celeb photographer Jason Bell, shares a sweet and very touching moment between the little boy and his royal parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. In the personal photograph, Kate Middleton holds Prince George, 3 months, as the two doting parents fawn over their precious baby boy. In the close up, Prince George smiles up at a beaming Middleton with a huge grin, as Prince William stares down with a subtle expression.

Just like the others, the photo was taken immediately following the Oct. 23 baptism in the Morning Room at Clarence House, Kensington Palace.

For the special day, both Kate and Pippa donned seemingly similar dresses. The first-time mom stunned in a cream-colored dress with ruffle detailing by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, which also was her wedding gown designer. The 30-year-old aunt, meanwhile, wore a high neckline pink dress with a cream-colored, wool trapeze coat.

Later that evening, Kate continued her busy day by attending the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Benefit Gala, the second formal event since giving birth in July. Wearing a navy blue Jenny Packham gown, the glowing new mom couldn’t help but gush about little George and the big event from earlier that day.

“He was such a good boy,” she said when asked about the christening. “Actually, we’re very lucky, he’s not always like that, but…the people there, lots of action going on, it’s slightly distracting.”

[From Us Weekly]

“…He’s not always like that…” Again, it really feels like Prince George loves to cry and fuss and be loud. But George also has that Middleton blood in him – he knows how to perform for the cameras! Kate was probably like, “Shhh, you’re on! You better not wail when you meet the Queen.” Apparently, George also “blew bubbles” when William was bouncing him too.

Last thing – Us Weekly confirms that Kate and William bought a “Silver Cross Balmoral pram” at the cost of $2350 for baby George in August. Not only did they buy the pram, they’ve been using it on the grounds of Kensington Palace. They did not use it for the christening though, because they wanted to hold him.

That picture is lovely! Don’t know why but I find William handsome he is kinda hot..

    • springingforward says:

He exudes a self-deprecating confidence. It is a dynamite combination.

      • emmie_a says:

Confidence, sure but self-deprecating? I’ve never seen that.

      • Green Girl says:

Emmie_A, he makes self-deprecating comments in his speeches fairly often. He also tries to play up his “Everyman” aspect.

    • Momoko says:

Don’t you think that he resembles Diana the most in this picture? I think he is a very shy version of Diana…

      • bluhare says:

I think he looks very Spencery sometimes. He has the same face shape as Diana and her brother, and there are times he really evokes her in his expressions.

      • jesb says:

he very much looks like Diana in this picture. you’re right. didn’t see it until you said it, but now i don’t know how i missed it 🙂

    • Tulip Garden says:

Always found William to be hot and the hair loss doesn’t bother me!

    • wolfpup says:

William seems to becoming dignified and “king-ish.” It’s very attractive. By the looks of George, he won’t have any problem being front and center;, almost like he knows who is is, and for what he was born. All I’ve seen from Kate is lots of smiles, pretty dresses, playing ball, and really trying hard to live up in some way to Will’s mother, bless her. She doesn’t seem familiar with the way the royals operate, but I’m hoping that she will be able to distinguish herself in a genuine way.

      • Tulip Garden says:

I think William and Harry are both good examples of what massive doses of confidence can do to make a person more attractive. You did put your finger on the fact that William’s dignified and “kingly” bearing makes him attractive. It really is a contrast to how utterly undignified much of the people covered in the media are today. Also, I believe that William seems to know how to behave properly and gentlemanly which is a quality not often touted with today’s male “stars”.

    • Baskingshark says:

      He has been airbrushed.

  2. ncboudicca says:

I find her so Stepford Wife-ish most of the time, but her facial expression here seems very genuine and loving. Best photo of the bunch…though the Royal Purse is still the star of the group shots.

    • LadySlippers says:

Agreed. This is THE best pic of Kate out of the whole bunch.

    • bluhare says:

I think so as well, but the first thing I noticed is where she stopped with the veneers. 🙂

      • vava says:

I completely agree – you can see where the veneers stop. She’s been really photoshopped in this picture, too, it’s very obvious! Her skin doesn’t look that good usually.

      • Christin says:

Yes, I see it, too. It’s something you can “un-see” once it’s been pointed out. This site’s commenters also helped describe how to detect the weave added to her hair once upon a time.

      • Sachi says:

Yep. Her teeth look too big compared to her thin lips. They almost look like Chiclets.

Also, where is the “scar” that was so visible in 2011? Did she grow extra hair to cover it up?

George is so adorable, though. Chubby baby. 😀

      • My2cents says:

Ha ha. I didn’t notice til you pointed it out. Funny. I love the pic. It made me smile. Happy family under it all.

    • m says:

I dont know, I was looking at other pictures of her since she gave birth and I noticed that her her eyes were dead in every single shot. Even when she was holding George she didnt look like a happy woman with her son, she looked more like a stranger whom his mother asked to hold him while she went to the restroom. She doesnt just look tired, she looks unhappy with her life. I wonder if she hasnt finally grown up and now sees how she ruined her life by waiting for such a selfish person to put a ring on it.

    • T.C. says:

I think everyone found her looking too much like a manniquin in the 4 released pictures so they released this one for good PR.

      • Mel says:

What surprised me is how *bizarre* her expression was. It looks as if she’s gone ever so slightly mad.

Another thing that I’ve been noticing since day one: she doesn’t really know how to hold the baby. Not once have I seen her supporting his head as she should be doing. (And it’s not something you have to learn – I would have assumed it comes naturally when you see the baby’s head hanging backwards – not that it’s exactly hanging in the photos I’ve seen. It’s just that her holding him looks slightly awkward.)

But I suppose not everyone is a “natural” when it comes to handling babies.
And judging by George’s expression, I am sure he feels just fine in her arms. 😉

      • wolfpup says:

That’s it! She’s looking slightly mad and slightly awkward. We didn’t know what was happening to Diana.

  3. Naomi says:

What’s with the blueish greyish tinge though?

    • Christin says:

The background was probably changed and other color saturation and contrast editing could give it that hue (with the main objective to hide imperfections in skin, etc.).

    • AmandaPanda says:

Duchess Kate probably whacked on an Instagram filter before they released it. Because they’re just like us, y’know?!

  4. Christin says:

I would imagine they probably did feel lucky he didn’t cry. After all, he’s just three months old. As for the picture being released later, it could have been planned that way (release the group photos first, then the parents with child), or maybe it was an attempt to show a less stiff photo of Kate and baby.

  5. Dawn says:

I absolutely love that top picture of Kate and her smiling little prince. Adorable and you can’t fake a baby’s smile! Lovely pictures of what looks like a lovely family. And yes I smiled when I saw the Queens purse sitting on the floor. Funny, we all have those.

    • Spooks says:

I like Kate more and more, ever since she gave birth.

    • My2cents says:

I want to be the Queens purse for Halloween.

    • chaser says:

This so much. That connection between baby and mum can’t be faked.

This photo actually makes me teary. We had pictures taken when my babe was 3 months old and got a similar shot. Those baby smiles, especially the ones reserved for the primary care giver, are just amazing.

  6. lisa2 says:

    Cute baby

  7. girlnbayou says:

I believe the artist was trying to lend the style edit to the mood of the picture. This is a more candid shot so maybe the artist wanted to give it a more dreamy feel. I am only guessing. I am a professional photographer myself and my edit depends on how I feel about what I am seeing. Although, I would have personally chosen more warm soft tones and not this cool flat affect.

  8. P.J. says:

Beautiful, loving shot ❤ I’ve only seen the little Prince in these and his post-hospital shots (much like everyone else), but I have to say, I’m already a big fan of this baby! It seems like he’s already got QUITE the outspoken personality and it should be interesting to see how the royals to try to keep him in line as he grows up if it lasts… P.S. I think Kaiser was right in her first Christening post: It looks like little G has big brown eyes 🙂 Very surprising as all immediate family (including grandparents) have light eyes if I’m not mistaken…Actually, maybe Kate’s dad has brown?

    • bluhare says:

I think it’s Carole’s side of the family. If memory serves me correctly her dad has blue eyes.

      • P.J. says:

Hmm. Maybe-I’ve never seen anyone in her extended family-but Carole herself has blue/bluish green depending on the photo. Either way, he sure is adorable!

  9. Sarah says:

This is precious! Love this family!

  10. Kiki says:

Love it! Makes me want to have a baby!

  11. Assistant Rachel says:

Absolutely beautiful picture! Kate looks so in love with her baby boy. Love it!

  12. Tessa says:

So cute. He’s like a chubby grumpy old man. Love little George. Very cute that they caught mother and son smiling at each other.

  13. melmel says:

You know this is the last time we are going to see the baby until he turns one or when public sentiment gets all pissed.

  14. Mandy says:

That picture is really precious. No snarks this time.

  15. Nicolette says:

    Adorable baby!!

  16. Relli says:

Aw that’s a very sweet photo. I think That Georgie is a really demanding baby that requires a lot of work. Some babies are just more demanding and he might be the first person Kate and Will have encountered who they simply cannot charm the pants off of to get an extended vacation. By the looks of him he’s a good eater and from what we have heard very loud, I bet he demands more out of Kate than anyone ever has. While I have no doubt they have help so she not doing it all alone, at this young most babies just want Mom. As for William watching the special bond happening between mother and son, that has to be bittersweet.

  17. Anna says:

    Lovely picture!

  18. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Kate looks great – Bethenny Frankel looks scary – thinkin I might go as her for Halloween.

  19. T. Fanty Fan says:

Very sweet picture! I too hope she is a very hands-on Mother.

  20. Reece says:

Yes! That is a beautiful photo. Of Kate and George.

There’s still space between Will and K&G. He should be standing closer with his head tilted inward not out. It would give K&G more of a background that they don’t blend in to and create Triangles man…basic portrait-try 101, sheesh dude! Ok I’m turning off the virgo.

  21. ghoulish_moose says:

    Just beautiful =)

  22. Tulip Garden says:

Slightly off topic but I think that Kate looks so much better physically since she became pregnant with Prince George. Her face still seems more full which definitely makes her look younger. I really hope she settles at this weight and doesn’t drop any lbs.

Also, the photo is just so gorgeous. That baby is just THE CUTEST THING!

  23. Nina says:

Haha, god. Will’s expression is like he is thinking:

    ‘Mudblood.’

I am sure he loves his child but he just look so disapproving in this photo! Which is a shame because Kate and the baby are charming here.

    • GreenTurtle says:

Aw, maybe he’s uncomfortable at having to put on a show of an “intimate family moment” in front of the camera. Maybe he hasn’t totally bonded with the baby yet, which is not uncommon. Maybe a thousand other things.

  24. Vera says:

Adorable photo. Interesting that we’ve seen more pictures of Prince George than Baby North.

    • TG says:

That is because Kimmy is too busy with shots of herself to posts pics of that child she gave birth to. It is all about Kimmy.

  25. Evelyn says:

They look like a nice family.

  26. jackie says:

The new picture is so much better. Why was the top of William’s head not in the picture? This picture resembled the same pose that Diana and Charles did with William on his baptism.

  27. Chrissy says:

Just noticed how similar this outfit was to their original engagement photo. It’s a great color on Kate! Though she may have a button AND ruffle obsession. :o)

  28. chantal says:

Slightly distracting??! Hey Kate, you know what I find slightly distracting? Your veneers!!!

    • Charlie Canada says:

That discoloured tooth was the very, very first thing I saw. Actually, it’s probably one of the only natural ones in her mouth. Fake, fake, fake. This woman is nothing but a Barbie doll. Please people! Don’t let one measly picture fool you. There were likely hundreds taken to get this one good shot of baby accidentally looking at mom.

    • NYC_girl says:

Listen, I am not a big fan and really wish she would lighten up on the makeup, but I have veneers on my front four teeth. My new dentist said that your eyeteeth (canines?) should be naturally a shade or two darker than the rest of the front-facing teeth. Apparently it has to do with how the light hits your mouth or something like that. She very well may have stopped with the veneers at that point and that darker one isn’t her eyetooth, but who knows. Veneers are a hassle for the long-term – my front two teeth needed root canals because after the 3rd set, my pulp was exposed. I’d like to do my 4 over and add two more on top but they’re $2k each. If they’re done well though they last for 10 years (I got my first in 87).

      • bluhare says:

Veneers routinely stop where Kate’s do. I’ve seen many people that way. I think it’s because most of the time when we open to smile we don’t see past the last veneer. Sometimes we do.

      • vava says:

My question is why did Kate even get veneers in the first place? Her teeth have always looked pretty good, why the veneers? Plus they are too blindingly WHITE. She looks like a crazy Cheshire Cat most the time. Ugh.

  29. GreenHoof says:

Say what you will about the royals and say what you will about Kate’s marriage to William. I really think becoming a mother has brought about a change in her. She seems more at ease and less interested in being a royal and more interested in being a mum to baby George. She just seems more likeable now.

  30. caitlin says:

The part about her attending the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Benefit Gala made me laugh. Hint for Kate – a Hedge Fund is not a pool of money set aside to pay your gardener!!

    • Elle Kaye says:

And why is it you think she doesn’t know about investing and hedge funds? Quite the judgmental comment.

    • Charlie Canada says:

Oooh, good one, Caitlin. Can we start a Waitytips here?

    • Tara says:

actually being the entitled wife and daughter of millionaires makes you a prime candidate for the hedge fund crowd. working and/or earning your own doesn’t always guarantee there will be enough left to invest after the bills are paid. so yes, Kate wouldn’t have to be incredibly knowledgeable about hedge funds to fit in with those ladies.

  31. Gine says:

Aw, that’s a really sweet picture. George is a cutie.

  32. rose says:

Those veneers are so “in your face” obvious and fake looking! Ugh!!

  33. dominique says:

Thorough photoshopping takes time, hence the delay with this one. Lovely finished product.

  34. Dommy Dearest says:

I love how much you see Kate with her son versus how much we’ve seen Kim with North.

  35. Maria says:

The carefully controlling PR work The Firm does was why this was released days later. Whenever we see a tide of sentiment a story or picture (or both) are released to prove the critics wrong.

  36. Green Girl says:

I like this picture, but I wish they had posed it so that William is behind Kate’s other shoulder. That way, George could be looking at both of his parents.

  37. The Original Mia says:

This picture is so much better than the first one we got where she looked like a wax figure.

  38. Sixer says:

That’s a nice photo. Kate’s expression looks real.

  39. Birdix says:

He’s laughing at that crazy eye makeup she has on–thinks she’s dressed up for Halloween!

  40. luna says:

I’m very very very very very very very very very happy that Terry Richardson wasn’t hired to take these portraits. I mean, can you imagine? The 3 of them against a white background with too much flash? Maybe it’s due to all those Terry overdose which I’ve been reading here recently, I can’t help but think about it as I looked over these very beautiful pictures taken by Jason Bell.

  41. Caz says:

that’s a lovely photo. I’m liking the coverage of the royal family. They’re on all the magazine covers here in Australia. Puts them in proper perspective compared to the Kardashians (sorry to speak of them in the same sentence).

  42. Kristen says:

Glad to see Kate hasn’t gone back to the spray tans post-pregnancy. Her sister still looks freakishly orange, however.

  43. Angee says:

    Beautiful, sweet and real photo.

(I don’t like this new website design. Can you try something else? Maybe a different font? What was wrong with the old one?)

  44. Sunny says:

    George looks super cute.

I find it funny that they try to hide William´s bald patch 😉
Both William and Kate look photoshopped. The grey/blue colour makes their faces softer. The light in Kate´s eye looks a little bit creepy. She really has crazy eyes.

This photo is much better than the other ones. The other pictures scream plastic stepford-family

  45. June says:

the picture is really adorable! it’s only a guess (based on my own opinion of photo shooting with our baby) , but i think william looks like that, because something was going on. maybe george was crying before or something like that. you can’t see it at the picture, but the most beautiful and warm photos are usually “surprize” shots.
