Duchess Kate is too busy to dye her hair, not too busy to take flying lessons

wenn20830016

Here are more photos from Duchess Kate’s appearance last Thursday in London for London Poppy Day (ahead of Monday’s Remembrance Day/Veterans Day/Armistice Day). These photos were a big deal because the UK newspapers made a big deal about Kate’s noticeable grey hair. You can see it in the closeup photos, I guess. She has greying roots. She’s 31 years old, it happens. I had grey hairs in my early 20s, and by the time I was 31, my grey was very noticeable too. So I started dyeing the crap out of it, although I’m lazy about it, so more often than not, my hair has grey roots too.

I don’t think the grey would have been as noticeable on Kate if she wasn’t doing this limp center part. Plus, I really do think she used to A) be obsessed with once-a-month organic-dye job appointments and weekly blowouts and B) have extensions and weaves. I think we’re back to seeing Kate with more of her normal hair, and we’re seeing Kate as a mom with other stuff to do besides keep hair appointments. Unless this is all some kind of royal conspiracy to make Kate seem more accessible to peasants because she too missed a hair appointment? Anyway, I’m not judging.

In other Kate news, did you hear that she’s taking flying lessons? Because what busy mother wouldn’t, I suppose.

The Duchess of Cambridge has revealed she’s learning to fly a plane – and she may even be being taught by Prince Harry. The 31-year-old, who gave heart to other new mothers by appearing with what looked like a few grey roots, told a group of RAF officers that she had been taking lessons in a fixed-wing aircraft, as opposed to the helicopters flown by both her husband and brother-in-law.

Kate, whose father was a dispatcher for British Airways and mother was an airline hostess, said: ‘My grandfather [the late RAF pilot Peter Middleton] flew planes. I’ve had a few lessons on fixed wing.’

But Kensington Palace would not confirm the rumour that Kate was being taught by her Apache helicopter commander brother-in-law. Prince Harry took lessons in flying fixed wing planes at the Army Air Corps base in Middle Wallop, Hampshire, in 2008.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked as elegant as ever as she helped promote the Poppy Appeal in London. She and her husband, Prince William, surprised commuters at High Street Kensington underground station yesterday when they made the short journey from their home in Kensington Palace on a classic 1960s London Routemaster bus, accompanied by forces personnel and poppy sellers. They were helping to promote a Royal British Legion effort to raise £1million for forces charities in a single day in the capital.

Prince William seemed to enjoy his rare trip on the bus, saying: ‘It’s very sociable. Although I suppose everyone’s got their earphones in.’

Among their party was actress Barbara Windsor, who asked after baby George. Kate replied: ‘He’s half asleep,’ gesturing towards the apartment they share in the Palace. William added: ‘He’s behaving himself this morning.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I doubt Harry is teaching her to fly. Right? I mean, don’t you have to be a licensed instructor? And while Harry is licensed to pilot several kinds of planes and helicopters, I don’t think he’s licensed to instruct others how to fly. Anyway, not to sound like a broken record or anything, but if she has so much spare time to learn how to fly, don’t you think she should, say, pick up some more charities or patronages?

  1. PHD Gossip says:

I would guess her hair is over processed and falling out and that is the reason for the missed dye job.

    • springingforward says:

Kate passing on the hair dye to take flying lessons, then more power to her. I would say that she has her priorities straight.

      • wiffie says:

I hate that argument, “if you have time for (hobby) you have time for (work)”. No guilt for not always working.

Of course she looks tired. She has a four month old.

And good forbid you have made the most amazing hairstyle choices every time.

Maybe i’m a Kate apologist, but you all just pick and pick… On Lohan, fine. But Karena like a royal puppy to me. Perfectly nice, and I’d feel bad to kick her

      • Josephine says:

I agree – flying lessons are way better than hair dye. She looks like a mom with a newborn – totally refreshing in this age where too many women strive to look like supermodels right after birth, and do anything and everything to achieve that look.

    • Jay says:

Hair falls out in excess after pregnancy. It’s normal. Your hair stops falling out naturally due to pregnancy hormones and after giving birth it makes up for lost time. Likewise some believe it is not a good idea to dye during pregnancy and breast feeding. There’s nothing extraordinary about this.

  2. Dani2 says:

Forget the grey hair, this mid-parting isn’t doing a single positive thing for her face, I know she’s a new mum but she’s not the average new mum – she has a lot of money at her disposal, she can look a heck of a lot better than this. Still though, love that coat and she does look happy (albeit tired) which is the important thing.

    • Kassandra says:

That center part completely changes the shape of her face, for the worst. And from every angle too

      • JenD says:

I think so, too. It hardly looks like her. Also, it looks very 1970’s to me. I’m not a fan.

      • Sarah says:

+1. The centre part does not flatter her face and for some reason it looks even worse here. I really think she could benefit from chopping off about 6″ from her hair. At a certain point, all that hair becomes redundant unless she’s going to do something other than wear it down.

      • Carolyn says:

me too. Doesn’t she look in the mirror from all angles before she steps out?

    • loveisthecoal says:

Unless one has a really round face, I don’t think a center part flatters ANYONE.

  3. ncboudicca says:

Those damn sausage curls. I swear I will send her $50 towards a haircut if she would just hack it off to shoulder length.

    • eliza says:

I have no problem with the length. It is the style she keeps it in. Long hair doesn’t have to look like that.

I’ll throw in another $50 for an intensive conditioning treatment.

  4. Mika says:

    She looks awful. Period.

    • carol says:

it’s her face – she looks 10 years older than her age! how is that possible?

      • anomie says:

totally agree. she just does NOT look 31

      • Josephine says:

Because she’s taking care of a newborn and under a lot of pressure to look and act a certain way? It’s a set of bad pictures – God forbid she doesn’t look flawless 24/7. I rather see her look exhausted than look like one of those babes who spends all of their time on themselves, and ditch the baby with nannies all the time.

    • Stef Leppard says:

I think she looks beautiful and happy. And I honestly don’t even see any gray hairs.

  5. caitlin says:

She’s pictured on the balcony of Buck Palace today – for Remembrance Day – twiddling her hair and yes, those horrible sausage curls are back!! So is the maniacal grin – not exactly appropriate for such a sombre occasion.

    • Mel says:

I saw those pictures, but it’s not the one with the “grin” that bothered me (people smile on all occasions, even during funerals – and why wouldn’t they? But a single photo of a split second may make it appear as if you were doing nothing but smile from ear to ear).
The one that threw me slightly was the serious one.
I do not pretend to be reading her mind, I am just saying that on most such “serious” photos she *looks* seriously bored and/or tired, instead of alertly “dignified”. Not a good look.

P.S. I am not sure whether she looks at her pictures once they’re published, but if she does, I would have thought she would have noticed by now that the “chin up” with the eyes cast down does her no favours. She appears – I emphasise, *appears* – stupidly arrogant on such photos.
Do her friends and family not see that?

    • caroline says:

Perhaps if Kate hadn’t spent 10 years sat on her behind shopping she would conduct herself with more class and respect. The girl can’t even make a speech or behave with any sincerity. She just thinks being royal is one big hoorah with her grinning family tagging behind. Big mistake william. I do not want her representing me thank you.

      • Mel says:

It is odd, considering her 10-year-long “apprenticeship”, but apparently some people simply don’t have a natural sense of how to behave in such occasions. I suppose it has something to do with empathy.
What puzzles me is that she seems unable to disguise her boredom – or, better yet, put herself in the right frame of mind by thinking of her own ancestors who lived through wars and hardship, for example.

      • SuSu says:

yes, she is just not the right person for such events. A grinning woman who likes to dress and prefers to be silent. Nothing wrong with that.. as long as you´re not a FuturePrincess of Wales or FutureQueen.
Her “position” needs a person with a serious, graceful, grown-up character. Kate can smile, but that´s all. Body language and her mostly silly facial expressions let her look very immature. She is a terrible speaker so she stays silent and smiles and plays with her hair like a little girl. Yes, she smiles pretty and for a gala or so it is enough, but she doesn´t show real grace or engagement. Everything seems too hard for her. After 10 years on the sideline this should not be the case. People want a Duchess/Princess with pure grace, someone who takes “the job” serious and acts as an ambassador and not a weak 31 years old girl.

    • SuSu says:

she stands on the balcony for Remembrance Day and twirls her hair…

    • janie says:

Kate needs an updated do… She really looks like the mom of a little one. I guess her hair isn’t a big deal to her? It is what it is.

    • Nina W says:

Ridiculous and catty remarks, I guess bashing the bride of William has become an international sport. These are weak, superficial and silly complaints about her as well. It’s amazing that everybody assumes it’s oh-so-easy to have the world’s focus on you. I’m sure all you perfect people (women) sniping at her never make a false step and you would absolutely rise to the occasion and “represent” perfectly. Get over yourselves. She’s not perfect but nor is she deserving of such endless negative tongue lashing especially over such shallow complaints. She did the most important part of her job admirably, she delivered a beautiful, healthy heir.

      • bluhare says:

Nina, so all you’ve got to rebut those “ridiculous and catty remarks” is insulting people? Blows my mind how many people come onto Kate threads just to say that. Guess what. If you don’t like the tone, change it. You might even engage people in conversation.

      • cath says:

        You ARE joking, right??

      • bluhare says:

cath, are you referring to me? If you are, I’m not joking. I’ve had some very good conversations here about Kate and William, and I’m someone who came in thinking they could do no wrong. It can be done.

      • bettyrose says:

Precisely because she could be so much more than a uterus. You’ve answered your own question.

      • cath says:

no, bluhare I’m talking to Nina. Your comments are among the most sensible I’ve read on the site – you, Lak and Florc are my favourites!

      • Florc says:

        cath
Thank you for grouping my comments in with LAK’s and bluhare’s. They’re some smart ladies.
I just can’t try to engage the Kate fans anymore. Not all, but many can name nothing of substance with her. The argument is always to call her critics jealous, haters, or blindly praise her. Argue back that she has wonderful qualities that a woman in her position should posses. You just can’t argue a point to someone who refuses to look outside their personal views. Even if mountains of evidence supports it. And to think i’m actually a Kate defender on another royal blog. To hate or worship blindly leaves no room for a decent discussion.

      • bluhare says:

        Deleted!

      • bluhare says:

cath, I want to thank you. That made my day!

  6. Buckwild says:

You can only get rid of one thing:
    A. Her tired long brown sausage curls
    B. Her raccoon eyes of black eyeliner
    C. Her paint job of blush

You’re her stylist, what do you pick?

    • Nemesis says:

      Eyeliner!

    • Agnes says:

Blush (but there should be an option D. all of the above)

    • Suze says:

Eyeliner. Without, ten years will fall off her face.

    • bluhare says:

It’s a tossup betwn the hair and blush. I’ll go with hair.

    • wolfpup says:

Between the red coat, black eyeliner and limp darker hair, she looks very pale. A brown eyeliner would tone down the exaggeration of black, red and white. The center part makes us focus on her nose and mouth, neglecting the other half of her face, as she does have beautiful eyes.

Where are the photo’s of her adoring looks to William? They are not photographed together anymore with those “in love” shots… She looks as though she were under tremendous pressure. She almost looks forlorn.

    • pamspam says:

Blush. Definitely blush. She’s got a Baby Jane Hudson thing going on with that blush.

    • MisJes says:

I’d get rid of her as a client, it’s a lost cause.

  7. eliza says:

Worse than her hair, which is limp and dry looking (the grey the least of it’s problems) are her crepey eye lids at 31.

I guess “she’s too busy to dye her hair” is yet another attempt to make the future King and Queen seem like just plain folks. She is just like everyone else. *eye roll*

  8. Suze says:

I’m not touching this one, Kaiser! Heh.

Actually, and I am sure I’ll be in the minority here, although she looks a bit tired (understandable) I think she looks better now than before George. I don’t care for the hairstyle but she looks pretty and rather natural. And she can show her grey all she wants and it’s fine by me! It’s genuine and maybe she’s telling the public: this is me – take it or leave it!

If I could cadge some flying lessons from Hot Harry I’d be all over it like white on rice, so no complaints there from me, either.

I’m sort of backwards to the board on Kate. Didn’t like her much when she appeared on the scene and wasn’t crazy about her during her first two years. But she’s growing on me, and I actually put down her rather scant appointment calendar not to her, but to her husband and her father-in-law’s plans for the slimmed down monarchy.

    • LadySlippers says:

Suze, I think it’s the extra weight she still has on. When she got too skinny it didn’t look good (does it ever?). But I agree, even with the hair/make-up I don’t care for, she still looks better than pre-George.

ETA: If Harry’s giving lessons, where can *I* sign up? 😉

  9. Mika says:

My God, that hairstyle ages her!

  10. Cora says:

She only has a few greys. She shouldn’t feel pressured to cover them. I find the centre part and eyeliner more problematic. Tomorrow is Remembrance Day (observed across the Commonwealth). Today is Remembrance Sunday. My prayers today are for veterans of all wars. May God hold them close.

    • eliza says:

Thank you for mentioning the veterans.

      • Mel says:

        Hear hear.
Here’s to my grandpapa who fought in WW I, to his mates – and to his adversaries. May they rest in peace.

      • bluhare says:

Amen, Mel. There were six great uncles I never got to meet because of that war.

      • Mel says:

It’s good that you – we – are remembering them now, Bluhare.
I honestly believe that a sincere remembrance, from the heart, is the best monument there is.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I didn’t know that today—my neighbor (who’s ninety), fought in WWII, and his father fought in WWI—I have seen pictures of his father in Mexico (aiming a gun in at a dried up bush in the desert) , going after Pancho Villa. It’s pretty cool.

    • LadySlippers says:

Yes, remembering Veterans and their sacrifices should be the focus.

    • Suze says:

Yes – agreed. The Remembrance is the important part.

      Here is to the veterans.

  11. Christin says:

The photos here really don’t show the grey hair as much as others I’ve seen from this event. She looks like her roots haven’t been touched up in well over a month. Her natural hair color is close to mine, and it looks like we have a similar level of greying. She could do a root touch-up herself in under an hour with a natural product.

The grey hair isn’t what makes her look older than her years, in my opinion. The harsh makeup and the hairstyle / center part do her no favors.

  12. aims says:

I started to get grey hair in my thirties. it freaked me out, along with hair in places I didn’t know possible. Needless to say, I started hitting the waxing pretty hard. Another thing to consider is, after you have a baby your hair starts to fall out. Maybe that’s what’s happening here. It’s pretty common. Motherhood is pretty glamorous, lol.

  13. Emily says:

The flying lessons thing is actually kind of badass. And goodness knows that this girl is in desperate need of a hobby. Fly on Waity!

  14. gem says:

Never usually one to defend Her Royal Laziness but my hair went to hell and most of it fell out at the front when I gave birth, resulting in a v unflattering combover/centre part to disguise it so I kind of understand this horrific hair do. Having babies does weird stuff to your hair

  15. lisa2 says:

She has nice hair.. but i don’t and can’t see how she is considered a Great Beauty. She and her sister are pretty average looking to me.

She looks tired like a new mom. So nothing wrong with that.

  16. qtpi says:

I’ll bet she has been surprised by how bad the hair gets after birth. Holy man was it a disaster for me that I am still recovering from (Gave birth in 2011). Hair began falling out after a few months and lasted a long time. My hair hasn’t been the same since. So good luck to her!

  17. what?WHAT? says:

What is WITH her Von Trapp hands? Ugggg.

  18. Alexandria says:

Her hair looks fine–it’s her face that worries me.

  19. Bee says:

Does she need to spend all her free time doing charity? I think she’s allowed to have a hobby.

    • caroline says:

Does she need to spend all her free time doing charity?
      —————————————————————————————
Hahahahahaha!!!! I don’t think there’s any danger of that happening!

  20. Sachi says:

The middle parting on her hair drags her face down and elongates her features. The thin, mousy, REAL hair also makes everything in her face look bigger.

She needs to cut off all that hair to shoulder-length, probably some choppy layers, to give it more style and body. Right now it looks dead.

What surprised me about her appearance last week was that her skin looked so dehydrated and rough. The Daily Fail really had a field day posting her unedited pics and they did her no favour.

I’ve seen a lot of tired new mothers, many didn’t have the resources that Kate has, but I’ve never seen one who looks like she has been starving and spent the last 3 months being ill…like Kate has been looking lately. She is getting close to being skeletal again.

As for the flying lessons…I’d say it’s good that she has a hobby. Maybe she can fly herself to one of her charities and spend more than 45 minutes at an event.

  21. janie says:

I agree… she needs an updated do! She looks like the mom of a little one? I would hate to have everything I did scrutinized. I know it’s a part of the deal, but it wouldn’t be any fun.

  22. phaksi says:

Can I hijack the thread to ask if the royal watchers have the Daily Mail article about Cressida Bonas quitting dancing to become a PA? My first thought was Waity 2.0

    • Emily says:

As long as Harry doesn’t make her wait for nine years…

    • bluhare says:

I don’t think Harry will do that to her. 🙂

Interesting they’re now saying she’s head over heels.

    • Suze says:

What is a PA? A personal assistant? That doesn’t seem like something the fey Miss Bonas would want to do, although I’m hardly part of their inner circle so I know nothing.

I do think there is some prep for incipient royaldom going on in the background. It will all be interesting.

  23. phaksi says:

Can I hijack the thread to ask if the royal watchers have the Daily Mail article about Cressida Bonas quitting dancing to become a PA? My first thought was she is now Waity 2.0

  24. Prim says:

She’s probably breastfeeding so not dying her hair. Good for her.

    • Ktx says:

She’s got some forehead wrinkles too- so no Botox, probably because she’s breast feeding. Agree- good for her and for little George.

    • SuSu says:

Look at the length of her grey roots. Hair grows normally about 1,3 centimetres a month, means Kate stopped colouring her hair just a month ago. George is 3+ months old…

    • Snappyfish says:

Exactly!! Well said! You do NOT chemically treat anything (hair, skin etc) while breast feeding. Give the girl a break by royal standards she has done her duty, provided a male heir…it would have saved Anne Boelyn’s tiny little neck

  25. bluhare says:

She didn’t look good at all. I wondered if she’s ill or .. . . pregnant.

    • Suze says:

I thought that, too, but for her sake, I hope not. It would be pretty hard going, even for a duchess.

I am obviously feeling all sorts of empathy towards Kate today. Bluhare, can you please make a note of the date so the next time I am accused of Kate Hate I can point out this post ; )?

  26. Sabrine says:

She puts the eyeliner all the way around her eyes which is a no-no, because it makes the eyes look closed in and smaller. There’s some kind of thing going on where she feels inadequate and insecure without it. Unfortunately, it appears to be applied even heavier than before. A lighter touch would make her look younger and less haggard.

Her hair isn’t that bad. She probably has been busy and hasn’t gotten around to getting her roots done. Haven’t we all been there?

  27. nicegirl says:

I just covered my grey roots last night!

It does make her seem more like the rest of us . . .

I kind of like the idea that the Princess (to me, she is Princess Kate) would be able to pilot herself and her kid to safety, if the sh-t hit the fan, so to speak . . .

Since 9/11 I have wanted to get my pilot’s license, but I keep spending money on boxed hair color to cover my greys and have not saved up enough. LOL

  28. Green Girl says:

I don’t think it’s the worst idea if she learns how to fly. But oh boy, that third picture down? That’s an epic “I’m looking down on YOU” face.

    • Maria says:

So agree with your comment. I think in some of her pics her real personality shines through, like in that one. The ones of her twirling her hair in the Daily Mail today 11/10 are pretty sad, shows how dim that light may really be after all.

  29. Alexis says:

She looks better since she had the baby. Happier and more at ease, and I like the weight she’s at, or at least how things have redistributed after baby. She is one who learned makeup before skincare and never really got into the latter. It’s time to start. Her skin looks parched. She has the resources and time to buy good products and use them, she should go for it! Although now, I’m sure, motherhood will distract her from getting better skincare routines.

Oh, and to be on topic, I don’t even notice the grey hair at all!

  30. Ginger says:

She’s lucky…my gray hairs are actually white so they REALLY stand out. I can barely see hers. I have my roots colored once a month. I also have been graying since my late Twenties. There are ways to cover your roots until you can get to your next appointment but maybe she just doesn’t care…like I said, not a big deal when you can barely see hers. I wish I could learn how to fly…must be nice. Flying runs in my family. But I agree if she has time for that why not other things?

  31. Patty says:

A lot women experience hair loss about 3-4 months post partum. May explain the center part and the lack of hair dye/processing.

I actually have no issue with the hair color. I just think Kate looks very old for her age. There were other pics at the DM that showed all the deep set forehead and eye wrinkles she has and I was shocked. She looks a good 7-10 years older when not covered in foundation and what not.

But I agree she would look fantastic with a different hair style and absence of the eyeliner of doom.

  32. A says:

Anyone else not mind the center part? I hate hate hate center parts with flat ironed hair ala Goop but I don’t mind it with waves/curls.

  33. Amy says:

Her makeup is downright garish. Putrid.

    • L.S. says:

Plus, I think the smoking is starting to catch-up to her skin. I hope she’s quit for good since being pregnant. Otherwise, she’s not going to age well.

  34. CeltLady says:

Simple fix, Princess…..get one of those brush on root powders. Totally covers roots. Takes a few seconds. Joan Rivers makes a really good touch up powder.

  35. Dena says:

Went to the Daily Mail website. To be fair, those particular photos could have been chosen deliberately. However, if that was her demeanor throughout then not only was she being inappropriate but she seems to have lacked the gravity and maturity for that moment (which I think is true for her in general). She is such a light-weight that it’s ridiculously embarrassing to watch–especially in comparison to the demeanor of the adults surrounding her.

Perhaps with the reality of the baby she’s only now realizing that the shiny prize wasn’t worth the 10-year wait (shrugs shoulders).

  36. jackie says:

What a difference a couple of weeks make. She looks so different now than she did at the baptism.

  37. Maggie says:

I think it’s unfair to say she simply stood there twirling her hair the whole time. Her hair does appear a little flat and lifeless. Most likely hormones. I have really nice thick hair and it fell out after about three months of breast feeding. it’s fairly common. I think she looks fine….and happy!

  38. Mayamae says:

I wonder if “dispatcher” is the same as air traffic controller in the US.

    • Mel says:

No. A dispatcher is a person who manages and coordinates the air crews’ timetables, assigning them to flights and so on.
An air controller – one of the most demanding jobs in existence – is a person who coordinates and supervises the actual landings and take offs. Not everyone can do it, and the training is EXTREMELY taxing. As is the work itself.

  39. P.J. says:

Eh, I think Kate just looks a whole lot less plastic (she went wayyyy overboard on the ‘Tox and hair appointments post engagement/pre-wedding) and more like a realistic new mommy.

P.S. Just a fun little aside: I had “William & Catherine: A Royal Romance” playing before I checked into Celebitchy today-finally got arount to it-and oh my God is this movie a hot little mess! (I mean there’s no way Kate was ever, ever like that, and JEAN SMART as Camilla?!?!!) That being said, I’m kind of loving every minute of it 😀 Hallmark movies always do me in despite of all their cheese…

  40. MavenTheFirst says:

WHY is she taking flying lessons???? Is there some cachet to that that I don’t know about? And is she going to buy her own plane to fly? How often will she use those lessons? And is Harry certified to teach her to fly? Sheesh. Typical Wastey Katie.

As for Wills, he grates as a putative father. Anytime anyone asks about Georgie, Wills invariably talks about Georgie’s ‘bad’ behaviour- he’s loud, he’s got a great pair of lungs, he’s “behaving” himself. Geez. the babe is 4 months old! Georgie sounds like a constant annoyance to wee Willie rather than a blessing.

  41. Cheryl says:

Omg, maybe the baby isn’t sleeping well, maybe she’s got a cold, maybe she’s having a hard time keeping her milk supply up and its stressing her out because getting up to feed a chunky ravenous baby is the middle of the night, every night, for 4 months is getting old, maybe she has a GI bug, maybe all her hair isfalling out because she’s postpartum….

I have a 6 month old, and I look like hell due to all of the above. Breast feeding, especially longer than just 6 or 8 weeks (which is what i think most hollywood moms do at the most) really takes it out of you, literally. Most women I know – professional, intelligent, otherwise totally put together women – most of them look like shit while breast feeding. Go ahead. Find me someone who can say they never looked better than when they had a four month old they were taking care of and nursing.

    Anyone?

She’s human. Leave her alone until you’ve been there yourself.

    • Prim says:

Congrats on your 6 month old, I’m sure you look gorgeous. Sleep deprived soft faced mothers are just beautiful. I have twins, toddlers, and when I look back at the pics from when they were a few months old I look exhausted, my hair was grey, my clothes were covered in milk, but that baby love in my eyes is quite something. I see that in Kate and I think it’s lovely.

    • sharon says:

I am sick of the post partum excuse. People will have a 10 year old kid and still be saying they are having post partum, from having that kid ten years ago.

  42. piggy says:

She really should hire a make-up artist.

    • Sarah says:

According to my source, at her own wedding, she was the only one skipping the professional Bobbi Brown Make up artist and rather went for doing her own make up (= heavy eyeliner, too much blush) while her mother and sister as well as some close female friends were treated by a famous BB make up artist whose name is widely known in the UK. This is a fact.

      • Emily says:

Oooooh! I love it when people have sources! Do you have any other interesting bits of gossip?

      • Sarah says:

No, Emily, very unfortunated, that’s my one and only duchess related gossip. I can just add that it was not only the BB make up artist who tried to talk Kate out of the selfie make up. Her mom did so too.

    • sharon says:

She needs a make-up artist, and a hair stylist.

  43. Kelly says:

I don’t get the because she’s a new mom she gets a pass nonsense. I really don’t care about her hair and flying is cool. She is a useless person really but some new mothers actually have a career, baby, keep their hair up, and have time for other things (with less means than she does). Just sayin’.

    • sharon says:

      You are spot on.

    • Torisan says:

It is really, really hard to keep grey roots covered. They often show up within a week of dying one’s hair. That is why you see so many celebrities who, even with access to lots of money and personal attendants – still have some grey roots that show up in photographs. It is not easy, and I sympathize with anyone who goes grey prematurely.

      • Florc says:

I started going gray at 20. I dyed, but it made the grays stand out more. IMO women should own their grays. If you leave m to grow they blend in better and in time no one notices.

  44. cath says:

Yikes – I just took another look at that very first photo and William looks at least a decade older than his chronological age. Must be all the “stress” LOL

  45. taxi says:

I wish Kate would donate most of that hair to http://www.locksoflove.org/, a charity which makes & provides wigs to children with cancer.

    • bluhare says:

That’s a great idea, taxi. She could publicise it and drum up a lot of publicity for the organization. And if not locks of love, then one of her charities.

  46. Sarah says:

I find it very refreshing she’s ok with having a few grey hairs…..she’s earned them! A mom and she’s getting to the age where normally women start to become grey. Is this something we should be ashamed of or embrace? I like her priorities – flying lessons are much more worth your time to develop yourself as a person, dying your hair not so much.

    • sam says:

”’I find it very refreshing she’s ok with having a few grey hairs…..she’s earned them!”’

Kate hasn’t earned sh!t. She has lived only 31 years, AND of a cushy life.

Now, a senior woman who has raised several children by herself, on a meager income, HAS earned her gray hair.

  47. Dawne says:

    Omg talk about negative comments!

  48. Hazel says:

The whole flying lesson thing reminds me of when Sarah, the Duchess of York, took flying lessons to have something in common with her husband. She took the lessons, got her wings, & never flew again. I suspect it will be the same for Kate.

  49. bettyrose says:

I trust this site for accuracy as it’s my only source of duchess news. If she were out & about bringing awareness to important causes, we’d be discussing that right? A nod to her hair & makeup but not an obsession with them, yes?

  50. ADD says:

I love that the Mail has finally stopped airbrushing her pictures. I’m not sure the thought process behind that (maybe the Waity honeymoon phase is over), but I find it refreshing for a change!

  51. notanidiot says:

She says I’ve had a few, not “I just started taking them,” idiots.

  52. Katie says:

Yeah – you do sound like a broken record.

  53. Rachel says:

Jeez tough crowd! I have a 2 month old and In the beauty dept, I am a disaster. I am reading more however. I need to spend whatever little precious time I get on something fun/ relaxing or I’d lose it. I am in the depths of baby blues, maybe she is too :/

  54. Torisan says:

It is not unusual for a woman’s hair to start going grey during or after a pregnancy.

  55. melmel says:

Just wait until the Queen sees all the papers with pictures of Kate twirling her curls and grinning. It iw known that the Queen reads all or almost all the dailies. Kate will probably getting a talking to and then we will see an increase in her charitable engagements

    • Florc says:

It was rumored she was already spoken to about it. Or rather news trickled down to William that Kate is seen as very lazy and that reflected poorly on him. Then he possibly scolded her for it. She’s had serveral engagements where statements had to be released say how she isn’t being punished for not working with her charities by being forced to visit locations for meet and greats. That poor town that starts with a G is one and another was the girl camping troop off the top of my head.

There’s also the factor of her not working because she can’t be seen woring more than William. She’d pull a Diana and steal the spot light.

  56. Torisan says:

In the third photograph going down, she reminds me a little bit of Heather Mills McCartney. I think its mostly her facial expression in that photo!

  57. shellybean says:

She looks so old for her age. I’m not saying she’s not pretty, because I think she is. She just looks like she’s 40ish instead of 30ish. Her face always looks to be in serious need of moisturizer.

  58. Megan says:

I am a Kate fan, but she really does look awful here. It’s not even about the grey roots – she has no body to her hair, it looks like it needs a wash, and it is very flat to her head. Even with a centre part, the stylist could have included a bit of body. I hope a hairdresser’s head rolls for this – she looks dreadful. I know she is tired, but they have endless help at their disposal with stylists/hairdressers/makeup artists, so going out in public looking like an old hen is a bit shameful, Kate.

    • Florc says:

      Megan
You know what your comment made me think of? Katie Holmes circa 2011.
Kate as alrady dismissed the idea of having a make up artist and stylist. She’s changed her hair dresser at least once before in her royal life. She pays so little attention to her charities and has no real job outside of “breeding” (sad and archaic, but true). She has all the help in the world to help her raise her son and i’m sure utilizes it. So, why does she look so haggard?

My only logical conclusion was marriage issues. Just as Katie started to let her grays go and looked tired and low. William has a strong and supported history of not being an easy man to be in a relationship with. It’s a theory.

  59. mk says:

Hey, way to be human Waity! The only trouble is, when your greys start coming in and you’re still not ‘doing’ anything. I mean, even I have a day job.

  60. cass says:

Everyone seems to think Kate looks older here, old for her age, etc., but what about Bill Middleton? He looks to be in his forties!

  61. Snarkweek says:

Motherhood doesn’t always equal beauty queen, guys.
