Did Angelina Jolie buy Brad Pitt a $20 million heart-shaped island for his b-day?

Have you ever heard of Petra Island? I had not before now. Petra Island is apparently a piece of private property about 50 miles away from Manhattan, in the middle of Lake Lake Mahopac. The island is shaped like a heart and the island is home to a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed family home. The island/home went on the market about a year ago at a cost of $20 million – you can see some photos of the property and the interior here. Well, I don’t know if the island has been sitting around all this time or what, but the UK papers claim that Angelina recently purchased the island as a 50th birthday present for Brad:

Their love for one another has never been in doubt, but Angelina Jolie has apparently reinforced the depth of her feelings for Brad Pitt by buying him his very own heart shaped island. The actress has reportedly paid £12.2 million for secluded Petra as Brad prepares to celebrate his 50th birthday on December 18.

Angelina is understood to have snapped up the island, located some 50-miles away from New York City, after discovering its two sprawling properties were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Brad’s favourite architect.

A source told The Mirror: ‘As soon as Angelina heard the island was on the market she arranged a viewing. She was really impressed. The house is perfect for romantic getaways or as a family retreat. It’s very private. And Angelina knows the fact the island is in the shape of a heart will mean so much to him.’

Petra’s original cottage was erected in 1950, while its larger property was built from one of Wright’s blueprints in 2008 – 48-years after his death. The home boasts panoramic views of the surrounding area, ceilings panelled with the finest mahogany and skylights that afford the property plenty of natural lighting.

Its spacious kitchen effortlessly juxtaposes new and old, combining conventional fixtures and fittings with highly distinctive work surfaces chiselled out of granite.

An open porch, complete with a carved wooden bench, gives the owner breath-taking views of the surrounding area, while beneath the building’s stone foundations disappear into the water.

The finer details of its intricate design will not be lost on architecture fan Brad, who once admitted that Frank Lloyd Wright ‘changed his life.’

Angelina has previously treated him to a tour of the late architect’s home, Fallingwater, in 2006.

‘He was incredibly well informed about the architecture,’ recalled Cara Armstrong, Fallingwater’s Curator of Education. ‘Experiencing Fallingwater in person, hearing the waterfall cascade under the house, was better than anything he imagined.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I remember when she took him on a private tour of Falling Water back in 2006. I remember thinking, “What a thoughtful gift from Angelina.” I think she must be a really great gift-giver. Reportedly, she also bought Brad a waterfall too, but was that ever confirmed? And there were reports that Brad bought Angelina a plane this year too. I’m still hoping that Brad gives her a lot of jewelry, just because… please! I want someone to get Taylor-Burton level jewelry. As for this island… I want this to happen. I think it’s a perfect gift for Brad. Unfortunately, the island’s owners are telling Page Six that Angelina has not made an offer. What are you waiting for, Angie? This is the perfect gift!

She can get it for me. I turned 50 this year too.

  2. TheOriginalKitten says:

    I knew I shouldn’t have read this..

Just worried about paying my rent increase of $300/month.

    *sigh*

    • V4Real says:

Jeez Kitten that’s a ridiculous increase, even for Boston. Is it legal for your landlord to do that? I’m no math wiz but that seems like a very high percentage.

    • Dani2 says:

Girl, don’t start lol. Sometimes when you think about the amount of money these people have at their disposal – it really can depress you. I’m getting a mortgage and here you have someone who may or may not have bought an island for $20 million. Ugh.

    • Meaghan says:

Owch! $300 a month?!? I had that happen to me once. 4 years with no increase then BAM, $375 a month increase. It was the final kick i needed to buy a place though! And my mortgage was cheaper then my rent. Good luck.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

Ohhhhhhh I feel for you. I had that happen one year when I lived in B’ton. Now I live elsewhere where it is sunnier, less expensive, and the people are nicer. Get out while you can!

  3. The Original G says:

Well. True or not it’s a lovely idea. Total fantasy money. I would buy this for my DH too.

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’m completely divided on this. It’s sweet and it makes me gag in equal measures.

  5. lisa2 says:

The owners issued a statement that it was not true.

  6. Jacqueline says:

I absolutely die for Frank Lloyd Wright. He was so crazy in his personal life and is so prolific (especially considering he had no formal schooling). I’ve never seen a home of his that I didn’t just drool over, except for this one. It looks like someone tried to copy his style, not like it was designed by him. Wright was meticulous about every detail in his homes, down to where the furniture went – sometimes designing the furniture with the house. This doesn’t have his full touch, I know it was his plan, but the modern touches and some of the details subtract from that. Bottom line: this isn’t a FLW house if he didn’t oversee construction.
I could understand why Pitt would appreciate a structure with privacy like this. I doubt Angie is buying this and I hope she doesn’t.

    • lucy2 says:

I agree – there’s something a little off. I looked at the photos before reading the article, and my first thought was that someone had altered it from the original design. I’m guessing modern construction and codes affected it some.
I love his work too, especially all the old drawings, they’re so beautiful. At an architecture convention a few years ago, owners of one of his Oak Park houses opened it to a few tours, and told us they were reacquiring a lot of the furniture. That takes some serious dedication and money! FLW’s own home and studio is my favorite though.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I agree. His houses usually look like part of the landscape. This one detracts from the beauty around it.

  7. lucy says:

I think this has been debunked, as well as the stories of her giving him a waterfall and the $15mil helicopter. Don’t know why these stories get created, it seems so random to me. Surely if you’re going to make something up, you can do better than this?

Edited to add, the more I see of that dress, the more I like it…

  8. Shannon1972 says:

The only thing I took away from this is that Brad Pitt is actually turning 50. That’s unbelievable.

  9. Holly says:

I don’t know, but can she buy Brad some shampoo for his hair plugs?

    • Maya says:

Are we feeling a little jealous of Brad’s lovely and thick hair? Brad never had hair plugs -it’s all his own hair.

Maybe you are confusing him with your idol Jennifer Aniston who confessed to having extensions and plugs even though she had lied for years claiming her hair was natural.

      • bees says:

@maya, why so serious? I don’t get why he is untouchable on here.

      • Ice Maiden says:

        @bees

Me neither. I remember a recent thread where some posters were suggesting he’d had work done on his face. The reaction was fierce, with people being accused of looking for any excuse to ‘hate’ him, being ‘jealous’ etc etc. Never mind that with every single female celeb over the age of 40, if not younger, people speculate on these pages about whether she’s had work done. But Brad is somehow sacred? Why?

      • meh says:

Oh wow, Maya, your comment made me laugh. 0 to 60 in one second.

      • Sal says:

Well said Maya. Ignore the attacks above. They clearly don’t get you are reacting to people who have motives for posting what they do. Considering the poster, what you said is spot on. Its not like Holly is neutral and is making an innocent post. Ignore those who don’t ‘get’ this.

  10. judyjudy says:

Next year she’s going to buy him an entire planet!

  11. Esmom says:

Sounds like a ploy to get attention for a property that’s not selling. I can just imagine a desperate real estate agent coming up with this angle, lol.

    • Holly says:

That’s what I thought, too – quite smart, really!

    • ANDREA1 says:

Esmom that was my first thought too! And if that’s the case what better way to advertise a property than this! Plus its a free publicity at that.

    • Jag says:

That’s what I thought, too! What better way to have everyone know about your property, and also possibly let a potential buyer know it’s available than this?

I used to want to buy an island somewhere in the world; some are actually affordable. But with the rising oceans, it wouldn’t be permanent, so I’ll look to a mountaintop retreat instead.

  12. ANDREA1 says:

The mirror is the originator of all these supposed gifts Brad and Angie have bought: waterfall, island, helicopter, shooting range, yacht. It seems they project their own fantasy on Brad and Angie!

    • Kim1 says:

@Andrea 1 actually the Sun made up most the stories .They also claimed Brad bought kids Shetland ponies, Angie bought $20k olive tree, they bought house in England, in Greece, in Spain…. All the stories are BS.
At least they stopped the monthly adoption stories they used to make up i.e. they are adopting a girl in New Orleans and naming her Katrina in honor of the hurricane.LOL

  13. ANDREA1 says:

Brad looks mighty fine for a 50 year old man.

  14. lower-case deb says:

my most favorite of all FLW houses is the Kenneth Laurent house. amazing and very thoughtfully laid out.

and that one FLW doghouse, that apparently leaked everywhere (because some parts of his plans were not followed correctly). shows you just how very exacting he is, i guess. do one bolt wrong, that’s a house gone.

    • lucy2 says:

I think a lot of his houses have had leaks and other maintenance problems – not unusually for older homes, but pretty costly to repair. I love them, but I’d never want to live in one or be responsible for the upkeep.

  15. The Original G says:

    Maybe Brad is hinting?

  16. RJ says:

Fallingwater was never Frank Lloyd Wright’s home. He was commissioned to build it for the Kaufmann family (of department store fame). It is truly spectacular, the house is built out of the side of a cliff hovering like a “diving board” over a waterfall, and part of the stream leading to the waterfall runs through the home. If you’re ever in Pittsburgh area it’s worth a trip. I’m a big FLR fan so have seen many of his houses (Taliesin West in Scottsdale, tons in midwest & Buffalo, NY, and Holly House in LA). Not to be nitpicky, but I hate it when journalists are lazy/don’t do the research to get the story right.

  17. maggie says:

Why would she buy him an island? Are they even together as a couple anymore? I’m not seeing the love anymore. He looks like Elmer Fudd in the above pic. I don’t find him attractive at all. JMO

    • lisa2 says:

I don’t think they really care if you see the love or not.

and good you don’t find him attractive. but you sure have to post it all the time. JMO

    • Gwen says:

This story was debunk last night by many sources so there you go.

So if your significant other brought you, your dream house as a gift that means your not together any more? That kind of logic makes no sense.

      • maggie says:

lisa2 they probably dont care. Just like they dont care that you defend them endlessly. If you don’t like what I have posted don’t read it.
Gwen I don’t understand what you have written. Who bought who a dreamhouse? Your comment makes no sense! If you want to believe these two are an item that’s fine. I don’t !

  18. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

I very much doubt that this is true, but it would be an awesome gift.

  19. floretta50 says:

If this story is true the island is a very spectacular gift. Angelina have given Brad Pitt six beautiful children , three are of natural birth, nothing can compare with that, I wouldn’t give Pitt a tinder box after that, his ex wife did not give him squat. Someone state that they aren’t together anymore. People who aren’t together do not behave like love sick teenagers as described by people who saw them inside the event for Jolie’s oscar presentation, earlier this month.

    • maggie says:

Oh puleease! They’re selling “the Brand”. What makes them any different from any of the other celebrities we harp on? Six kids later and lovesick teenagers? Sure…….ok. I don’t believe in fairytales.

      • Holly says:

I’m with you, Maggie. I don’t believe they have been a couple for several years now. I think Brad is pretty sick of faking it – he can’t even pretend to be interested anymore.

      • km71 says:

Finally somebody said it! I believe they have remained friends for the children’s sake. They may still love each other but not in a romantic way. I doubt they will ever make an announcement as such ….and why should they? It is a personal issue between them and they are trying to protect the children. I also believe they are afraid of public opinion.

      • Sal says:

Seriously you Jenloons maggie and Holly really are sad, bitter and DESPERATE to *want* to believe they are not a couple, despite all evidence to the contrary. It must be so sad to be so ANGRY that the relationship that you loons said wouldn’t last 6 months has stood the test of time and seems stronger and more committed than at any time before. It makes you both seethe with anger than they are still a couple and obviously still very much in love, doesn’t it? Go back to IUC and FF where you can live in fairytale land of Planet Jenloon Delusion and fantasise about them not being a couple all you want, since that’s what gets you through.

      • Josephina says:

Oh, let the Henettes cackle up a protest once again! Let’s talk about rebels without a cause…

You just saw LAST WEEK that Brad had tears in his eyes for Angelina upon listening to her Oscar acceptance speech…1 month ago there were picture of Brad purchasing jewery for Angie in Japan…AND in the first half of the year they were battling a cancer scare which led to a 2-3 major operations, one of which included a mastectomy… yet you are still cackling words of a break up…PFFFT.

THIS IS WHY the Henettes get hammered on blogs, by anyone who is leary of jealous, unfulfilled, immature women ragging on the concept of true love.. It is always the man’s fault when a relationship ends, right?.

“WAAAAAAAHHHH!!! It’s not fair! Brad and Angie are NOT untouchable! They are not really together, they are FAKING THEIR relationship…”

Oh yeah?? Faking for the past 8-9 years? Get a grip.

      • Josephina says:

        @Sal–

When you Kim71, Maggie and Holly’s comments, they are ACTUALLY talking about Aniston’s marriage to Brad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They just left out the part about the years in therapy.

        BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ROTFLMBAO!

        Liberty!!!! We need you NOW!

        Come get these birds!!!

        Come on Liberty!!!

        Make us proud.
