LeAnn Rimes got into a Twitter drama with an ex. Shockingly, it was LeAnn’s ex and not Eddie Cibrian’s. For the most part, Dean Sheremet and LeAnn don’t seem to speak or acknowledge each other in any way. I believe that when they divorced, LeAnn gave Dean a nice settlement and he took it and moved to NYC, where he probably invested in some real estate and went to culinary school. He’s now remarried and he seems to have been able to “move on” from the drama with a lot of grace. Last month he did give an interview where he talked about LeAnn, and it was notable just because he hadn’t mentioned her in public in a long time. Anyway, the new drama happened because (why else?) LeAnn will not and cannot stay off of Twitter. I don’t want to get too far into the weeds here, so here’s what went down:
LeAnn Rimes continues to have Twitter-related drama. The 31-year-old country star irritated her ex-husband, dancer Dean Sheremet, after replying with laughs, to a snarky comment that implicated he was gay.
It all began Saturday when a Twitter handle labeled Da Giggle Factory posted a picture of the “You’ve Ruined Me” singer from her first marriage, with the caption, “Remember the good old days when @leannrimes was just a chubby country bumpkin married to a gay dude?”
Rimes, who famously went to rehab last year in order to curb her urges for the interactive website, wrote back: “hahahaha I’m gonna choose to laugh at this” — which rubbed Sheremet the wrong way, as he wrote back to his ex-wife, “Laugh away-Who’s the bully now?”
Sheremet then wrote a message addressed to both Rimes and the NOH8 Campaign, as he said, “I don’t do twitter wars, but I do hate ignorance.”
Rimes, doing damage control, clarified she was “laughing” at herself, and said Sheremet’s “not gay and there’s nothing wrong” if he was.
“I have always & will always support the [gay] community,” she wrote.
Like Brandi Glanville, Sheremet was publicly cuckolded after his wife’s 2009 affair with Eddie Cibrian came to light after the two filmed the TV movie Northern Lights. Sheremet subsequently found love with photographer Sarah Silver, and the two have been married since 2011.
So, does Dean still “follow” LeAnn on Twitter or did someone just tell him about her tweets? As for what actually went down… yes, LeAnn was trying to show how “happy” she is and how “she doesn’t listen” to all of the criticism, and that’s why she responded the way she did. Of course. I like that Dean stood up for himself and that he called her out on her BS.
Incidentally, I read this Celebrity Dirty Laundry story a few days ago and it’s worth a read if you’re a tin-foil-hat-wearing LeAnn conspiracist. CDL basically says that LeAnn spends most of her time on Twitter responding to herself through various Twitter handles. I kind of believe it.

@TheOriginalKitten, I’ve always said LeAnn was a very cute girl from 19 to meeting Eddie, when her obsession with looking like a California hot babe ruined her looks with everything she did to her face and body and mouth. LeAnn was cute girl, with a cute figure, and had a cute southern personality, came across well in interviews, talented, successful. LeAnn could have left Dean and had plenty of good-looking guys in Nashville think she was adorable. She wasn’t some desperate, homely chubby girl that couldn’t get a guy except with her money like people paint on here. And even Eddie, who was out of LeAnn’s league in many ways, Brandi said on Howard Stern she didn’t think he was with LeAnn in the beginning because of her money. But she thinks he is staying in the relationship now because of her money for sure, no job, suger momma.
Now she had never had a super hot guy like Eddie was in his prime with a hot Barbi wife and thus began the unraveling of LeAnn, snagging this prize she couldn’t believe she got.
I always post this interview of LeAnn when she was in her early twenties. She was more mature then. It’s shocking the difference in not just her looks but her maturity and groundedness and soft personality. LOL “There’s a better way to use your fame.” She needs to look at her words then. She had cute facial expressios. Now her face is all botoxed and filled with fillers and doesn’t move.

The change is significant. And as @Jayna mentions, it’s not only physical looks. The demeanor seems to have changed, too. Maybe this is the real her, independent of listening to any capable handlers (and I do think Dean somehow helped ground her after the Keegan and daddy messes).
@jayna – the interesing thing is that stuff’s coming out about what a cheater she was when she was with Dean, and she’s always had a side of her personality that she’s for the most part kept hidden publicly (great example: see her court battle with her dad when she was a teenager). As much as the relationship with Eddie has turned into a perfect storm, it’s likely that the only thing that’ll change in the future is that she’ll once again learn to hide her crazy.

She actually was wearing flattering clothes in the pics with dean. I think that’s why everyone thought he was gay initially- she used to dress well for her body type and look somewhat cute. They broke up and she has looked like ass ever since.

She did, and Darrell and another producer kept them alive on twitter. Back then there was plenty of evidence of all of her alts putting out the rumors on twitter and the blogs. People called her on it. It was one of the first times fans got to see her nasty personality.
There were always gay rumors while she was married to him. I regret to say I am one of those that thought he was gay. He was a dancer and he when he was young had a pretty boy face. I never heard him talk, so it was just based on photos. Seeing him in interviews I get no gay vibe at all. He’s good looking and is definitely a guy’s guy.

If Dean was mentioned, it would show up in his twitter client. So, regardless or not if he follows Rimes (I suspect he doesn’t) he would still be notified.
I don’t see what the problem is. She shouldn’t have responded at all to that ‘gay’-joke of course, but if you’re going to do it, ‘I’m gonna choose to laugh at this’ is probably the way to go. The joke is offensive to her as well to her ex, so by laughing about it she just shows how the whole thing’s not worth a serious reply. I don’t understand how the ex interprets that as ‘bullying’.

I have to agree with Cherry. Laughing at something unkind and untrue is a way of giving it no influence and disregarding it. I might have done the same thing, instead of engaging the unkindness just disregard it and laugh it off. I think it is Leanne’s general character that makes this seem wrong to some people. If it was someone else people might understand that she simply did not want to engage and was trying to just brush this comment off instead of engaging by defending.
Laughing (via twitter) is not disregarding, it’s actually engaging. If you really wanted to disregard something you would just ignore it. Not responding, staying silent would be more powerful than laughing in this situation.

The way to go is to do the right thing & say it was unkind and unnecessary to speak of Dean that way and NOT ENGAGE. That is it DO NOT ENGAGE. But the dumb bitch can’t help herself.
The thing is she’s supposed to be this big “NOH8” advocate. She supposedly is supposed to be anti-bullying (though we all know she’s just as bad of a bully as any). He took issue with the fact that she can babble on about NOH8 and not bullying, and then allow someone to make a remark that is using gay as a slur, and do nothing. Exactly, 1) If she wanted to let it slide off her back, she should not have responded AT ALL. But it’s all about her so… 2) If she just had to respond, there are plenty of ways she could’ve put that person in their place and made a lesson of them (NOH8). Ridiculing anyone for their sexual orientation is so immature. Dean is such a fantastic human being. I can’t even begin to imagine how he felt during the multiple affairs, the divorce, the crazy, and the continuing twitter wars Leann partakes in. He has a hell of a lot more class than I could have ever mustered.
Leann needs to shut down her twitter. But if she does that, she’s even less relevant. She needs to stop with the drunk tweeting, the manic arguments. In a half-hearted defense of LeAnn (shudder), I think she is just so self-centered that she only saw the part about her being a chubby bumpkin. I believe her when she says she was responding to that remark, not the gay remark. I am, however, putting on my tin hat and venturing over to the linked article after I finish this.

Even though it does showcase for the world her single minded focus on herself being the butt of the tweet, she’s admitting how oblivious she was to Dean’s feelings. LeAnn’s telling the truth here, and honestly copping to her insensitivity.
It would show up in his mentions that someone put his twitter in a tweet, so I highly doubt he ws looking at LeAnn’s tweets when this happened.

Dean did an interview with US mag. He says he is not offended by being called gay, but rather that the word gay was used as a slur-word.
This must be backward universe today, but I don’t think she handled the second explanation badly. She should have said it first. But they did call her a country bumpkin, and I’m guessing that wasn’t a compliment. Her ex should have ignored the whole thing, or said something similar that he’s not gay, but it’s not an insult, whatever.

Her overall Twitter usage should be an example of what not to do within celebrity social media. Most celebrities utilize social media to promote their projects with a tweet here and there, not basically live on it 24/7.
LeAnn and Eddie use ‘we laugh at it’ as their template response to everything they’re asked to respond to. Gets tiresome. She wasn’t chubby and Dean isn’t gay. Neither comment is funny in any way. His reaction may have been fueled by his seven-year sentence plus the aftermath. He knows how she operates. If she is as prone to passive-aggressive, mean girl behavior as some claim, he might have believed that omission is implied agreement.

Dean has certainly never been one to over react in public before. I doubt if he was scolding her for just this particular response from her. His reaction probably came from finally being sick and tired of her reaction to this same message over the last several years. She is the one and only that knows if he is gay or not and she had never done one thing to dispel all the ugly rumors that mostly her fans continue to speak of. She could have nipped this rumor in the bud years ago if she wasn’t trying to justify her own behavior with allowing people to believe that could be true. Dean is a stand up guy regardless of her antics over all the years he has known her.
Yeah. I think he overreacted, because LeAnn was disparaged in the tweet and I think her choosing to laugh it off was saying it’s absurd, but I don’t think she thought about how Dean would feel regarding the tweet about him and his feelings. And I agree he reacted probably because he had had enough.

That’s my interpretation as well. He’s been really patient with both her and the rumors for years now. I also think that reacting now might be in part because he’s married, and that might make him inclined to defend his relationship rather than just himself. Either way, this is a pretty tame response to all the provocation and I’m completely on his side.

Team Dean all the way. And, thank God, he was smart enough to bail on that Brandi interview on her podcast. She talked him back into it and then he thought about it and bailed again. He doesn’t need to be associated with this mess of a group that is ongoing. He addressed it in the one interview recently in a very classy way, that that was enough. He’s trying to further his career, and being on Brandi’s show does nothing to help him distance himself from the ongoing circus of the other three.
It would have been nice to hear him talk about his new career and new life. Unfortunately, Leann’s fans and friends were harassing him nonstop for agreeing. I imagine it was that and the attention for calling her out that made him rethink it.

Let’s talk about Dean. He was rumored to be gay years ago but he did not feel the need to jump to his feet and scream, “I am not gay!!!” This is a man confident in who he is.
Let’s talk about LeAnn. When she made her affair with Eddie public, LeAnn and her camp put out all sorts of “Dean’s Gay” crap to give LeAnn cover. Not once did LeAnn ever simply state, “No, Dean is not gay”, and quietly leave it at that.
Where as Dean never took offense at being considered gay and didn’t feel the need to respond, LeAnn used the “accusation” for her own purposes. This situation was the first time she admitted that Dean is not gay but only after Dean called out LeAnn for leaving an untruth dangle in the public wind.

I know the story you’re talking about and if true, LR is far more evil and diabolical than we thought. If it’s true, then it is no wonder Dean is so bitter and angry at her. Keeping a secret like that and then having him find in the finances during the dissolution of their marriage, terrible and so sad for Dean.
We are both thinking the same thing (great minds do that) but I doubt it’s the blind item. JSJ said she wasn’t going to touch the story and she’s going to reveal the blind. I still have doubts about all the “supposed” darkness around LeAnn and Eddie. Nobody could live like that and there’s a special place in hell for someone who’d keep children in the middle of it. Time will tell.
Dean didn’t come off bitter or angry at LeAnn in his interview with Billy Bush and he said some nice things about her. Time has a way of being able to do that. But he was honest about being blindsided by the affair and the hurt it caused him, but he didn’t whine.
I think Dean has wounds but he doesn’t hate LeAnn. He even said he has nothing but love for her, his words, and wishes her the best. He’s moved on and has a great career, a great wife, a great life.
@Rita, I’ve wondered … the blind item Jenn posted most recently that seems to be about LR … she said “this will be revealed,” but she didn’t say she herself would reveal it. Then she said there was something terrible coming out about LR that she, Jenn, wouldn’t touch … the way she worded it, it seems like they could be the same thing? Like maybe Star (or something) would reveal it and Jenn wouldn’t touch it except as an “anonymous” blind? That blind is pretty sickening. Yes, I believe Leann is on Twitter and many gossip blogs as her alts and harassing everyone who is calling her out on her psycho behavior. The leaks from Eddie’s camp are all over the tabloids and many bloggers are speculating about her. So she is doing her own form of damage control by lashing out at everyone and anyone in her life. Dean is just one of many of her targets. I’m sure her split personality is fighting somewhere online right now with: Dean’s sister, Carly Rose and her supporters, Brandi, Brandi’s dentist, Eddie, Eddie’s family, Scheana, the Smiley family, Jessica Simpson, Carrie Underwood, Leann’s old record company, her manager, her dad and his wife.
Leann is famous for making passive replies to aggressive tweets that continue her agenda.
She knew exactly what she was doing. She brings things to the table, with a wink or a haha…and they are tweets she herself wants to say but can’t. Those rumors about Dean being gay have been going on their entire marriage and when she cheated, she used them to further her agenda of justification. Now she’s hurting, her marriage is in the dumpster and she wants to lash out at others.
Rita-I know what the story is and it IS ugly. I hope a gossip site will have the balls to report it. Stories take weeks if not months to get published because of legal clearance and agreements negotiated with the secret spiller. That’s why bloggers get scoops so much earlier. They ALL talk to each other and bloggers have much more lee-way and less to lose since they can just put an “allegedly” on a story and call it meaningless gossip. Mags make serious $$$$ to report and will be held liable.

She quickly terminated the pregnancy and pretended it didn’t happen. Her husband found out two months after she left him when they were going through the financials in their split, and the bill for the procedure came up. He was devastated. He believes to this day it was his baby.

It doesn’t take long to throw together a short paragraph about LeAnn, who lives her entire life on social media and who makes one PR gaff after another. I agree with you! He made it a big deal by accusing her of letting it slide that they said he was gay, but she also let it slide they called her a country bumpkin. First time I can ever recollect her shutting her trap and just letting crap go, judging by CDL posts this is the least of her worries…I also saw that blind and couple others about her that were actually revealed. She is a sick chick if any of that proves to be true..
I think gossip about things such as pregnancy termination should be off limits. It’s hurtful to all involved and I way too sad and dark. I don’t care who it involves, a girl should be able to make that type of decision privately and should not be raked over the coals for it.

Eh… It was a slam to both of them. She was just responding that she’s going to laugh rather than get mad at people insulting them. I really don’t see any reason for him to respond to her. If he was offended by being called gay he should have responded to the offending picture/tweet.
It seems to me that Dean completely ignored the joke at his expense and wasn’t offended by being called gay, so much as he was irritated by his ex-wife’s strange version of taking the high road of disengagement. Nothing says, I’m above it all, like retweeting the disparaging remark to an even larger audience! That Dean chose to call out LeAnn for failing to recognize the hypocrisy of her NOH8 stance is commendable. It is hardly a noble, appropriate, or, helpful response to laugh at the ignorance of false (and ancient) rumours….A true anti-bullying advocate would know this and use their social media savvy wisely to promote this cause.

Alot of us have been following this story a long long time but have almost exhausted all my energy on it and barely know what there is to say anymore.
It has transmogrified into a very disturbing, distressing story that is spiralling into a dark place that involves madness, desperation and despair.
After watching this malarkey for a long time now, and seeing how soft and together Rimes was with Dean, I am now convinced that Eddie is the villain in this whole terrible caper and she was his willing victim.

Well, he is a “pretty” man…but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s gay. However, the rumors about him being gay have been floating around for a while now, and there has to be a reason for it. There’ve been rumors about John Travolta for years and years, and they were pretty much confirmed with “Masseur-Gate”.
Either way, LeAnn sucks and I wish she’d just go the hell away already. Her career is ruined and the fact she spends every waking moment on Twatter is pathetic.
Dean has never overreacted before, so I’m betting he knew exactly where those rumors originated and wants them to stop already. Leann could’ve said something like, “I had some baby fat then, it’s true, but Dean is not gay.” Or, “I’d like to clear up the rumor about Dean being gay.” She’s a sociopathic liar and evil to boot. Being gay is not like having a toupee- you can’t just spot it. Come on. Dean was a pretty boy and a dancer, so apparently that means being gay? Way to stereotype. He looks like a lot of those gymrats on reality shows- carefully tended hair and brows, etc.

LeAnn really had peaches and cream skin, beauitful complexion looking at her photos with Dean. Then look down at the one with Eddie. She looks like she is in her late thirties with her skin tone and her compexion is not glowing and not flattering compared to the Dean photos. That fake tan or whatever it is is not flattering on her face. It hardens her.
It was a dig, plain and simple. Many people on Twitter have insulted her looks for years. Why address this specific tweet to laugh at? Because it referenced Dean as gay.
Would she have responded if the original tweet just focused on calling her fat and not included Dean? No. Like all the the other tweets before this one that insulted her looks, this twitter account wouldn’t have gotten a response, just a block. Butt hurt and scared because Dean was scheduled to appear on Brandi’s podcast.
This one calculated response backfired in her face and showed her true colors on how she views noh8. For some people, a cause is just a paycheck and a way for getting great publicity.
