David Beckham says he wants to be played by Brad Pitt in a possible bio-pic

Victoria Beckham guest-edited the new issue of Vogue Paris, and that means that she “edited” herself onto the cover of the December/January issue. Victoria and David did two covers – I think the one of their pose-harding Blue Steel faces is okay, but I love the “near kiss” cover (above). That’s sexy. Posh made herself look really good too. Her editorials can be hit or miss, but this is definitely a “hit”. There aren’t a ton of quotes from the (seemingly joint) interview, but Victoria does tell the magazine:

“David and I have been through so much together. We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’re so proud of each other. We’ve always been – and I include the children in this – amazingly happy about the success David has achieved. All those matches where we stood cheering on the terraces.”

[Via The Mail]

If this was any other couple, I might side-eye the whole idea that Posh is merely proud of David’s accomplishments and that she has no problems building him up while trying to underplay her accomplishments. But I don’t really think that’s their dynamic at all – David doesn’t seem like he begrudges her accomplishments at all. I believe that David and Victoria really are a team, and that his accomplishments are hers and vice versa, and that’s a rare and wonderful thing. I can’t believe I’m being so optimistic about them, but I really do think their marriage is incredibly strong.

David also did some solo interviewers recently, and he’s admitted some interesting stuff. He was asked who should play him in a possible bio-pic, and David said he wants Brad Pitt to play him. Then David suggested Angelina Jolie for Victoria. You know what? I kind of want to see that. It could be Franco-level High Art. Also: David recently discussed a “hazing” prank/situation that involved him… I don’t even want to describe it. The story is NSFW-ish (I think?), so just go here to read it.

Oh my god, that would be fantastic. But what story is there to tell? THeir wedding? The drama of building Beckingham Place? The tension involved in constantly defying the bounds of good taste?

    • Anna says:

Also, shouldn’t Brad be played by someone younger (and younger-looking)? The biopics are usually a look into the past, and sadly BP is past his youthful, boyish prime. Other than that, I can totally see it.

Angelina as Posh tho – no, pure camp. AJ has miles more scenery-chewing presence than VB could dream of.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

That was my first thought–Brad’s too old. Plus, I haven’t heard him do a british accent (although I loved the one he did in Inglorious Basterds–from what I hear from relatives down in Tennessee his accent was pretty good), so I don’t know if he would be able to pull it off.

    • Bbb1975 says:

The kidnapping plot that happened when their oldest son was a baby

      • Colu says:

I know that AJ is better than this, but I would totally buy a ticket to see her as a Spice Girl!

    • drea says:

Haha, true. It’s not like they would ever authorize a retelling of that incident in Spain, and all the other similar, not-so-secret, incidents from other places. It’s also unlikely Posh would ever want people know about the true events that eventually brought the Spice Girls to an end.

I really don’t see a major motion picture for them. Maybe, in the not-so-distant future, something more like a glossy, picture book autobio of their great brand, sorry I mean, love.

Wait, do I sound too snarky? Despite what I just said, I do like them. And should they ever need help with the kids, I’d very happily baby-sit Cruz and Harper.

  2. Faye says:

No offense to David Beckham, whom I find very likeable – and who was an amazing player in his heyday – but why on earth would they make a biopic about him? What is there to say – born in England, relatively uneventful early life, became a massive star and soccer player, got married and had kids, and made yet more money? It’s not like we’re going to get any of the good stuff, like Rebecca Loos :).

  3. mk says:

    lol, poor TommyGirl.

    • mia girl says:

I was going to say the same thing!

After hearing about this Tom was probably so hurt that he stormed out of his house wearing his toughest jacket and his liftiest lifts, jumped on his bad boy racing motorcycle and rode off into the night screaming, “WHY, oh WHY David? I gave you some of the best years of my life trying to indoctrinate you into a soul-sucking cult! How could you do this to meeeeeeee?!”

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Brad Pitt is too old to play David Beckham unless it’s a Back to the Future movie.

  5. lisa2 says:

What does that say about you when you give an interview and you saying you would like Brad Pitt to play in in bio-pic is the headline of your interview. I think people drop Brad’s or Angie’s name for attention to their interviews. I swear I could name over 10 stars that dropped their names this year and that was the tagline to their interviews. But Brad nor Angie ever have to mention anyone. Big difference.

I don’t know much about David outside of he is married to Victoria/kids/soccer. I just found out about the woman Rebecca and their supposed affair. But even knowing that I don’t think I care to learn more about him. I can only follow so many celebs.

And Brad didn’t say he wanted to play David

    • ANDREA1 says:

HA! @Lisa2 I especially love the last sentence :”And Brad didn’t say he wanted to play David”.because you know what some people are just going to spin this into! 🙂

    • Kim says:

Whether its name dropping or man crushing…
Brad is almost 50 so it would never happen since David is 38.Maybe David saw Moneyball when Brad played Billy Beane.A movie about David would be suitable for tv not film IMO.

      • lisa2 says:

        @Kim
I’m going with man crushing. I swear how many men say they want Brad to play them in a film. I’m not knocking David. I just get tired of Brad being mentioned in so many peoples interviews. I guess I should see it a flattering..

OH and the songs that talk about Brad and/Angelina.. seriously..

      • ANDREA1 says:

        @Lisa2
Like seriously from Javier Bardem to Ben Affleck to Michael Fassbender So many others and songs that also name drop them! Brad and Angie have the “IT” factor 🙂

      • Cameron says:

Add Adam Levine and Tommy Lee to the list of men crushing on Brad. I can’t remember which actor said” brad change the game with fight club.. Actors are expected to have great abs. Newt Gingrich wanted Brad to play him too. (lol).

    • ANDREA1 says:

It was Charlie Hunnam who made that statement saying Brad changed the game with fight club actors are expected to have great abs. Don’t they just love some Brad? 🙂

    • Anne says:

If you actually read the interview itself, it’s obviously more of a joke: the interviewer asks David who would play him in a biopic, and he initially says “I have no idea”, then the interviewer suggests Brad Pitt, and David (laughing) agrees to Brad Pitt or ‘Leonardo DiCaprio’ or ‘Bradley Cooper’–but you can tell he’s taking it all as a joke.

      • lisa2 says:

        Anne

I don’t think anyone is taking his comment that serious. Just commenting that so many people say they want Brad to play them..

and to be honest… if Brad’s name had not been mentioned I wouldn’t have paid any attention to that cover or article.

      • Kim1 says:

Thanks for clearing that up he was joking about Brad playing him.I’m also glad that HE didn’t bring up the bio pic .

  6. Pri says:

Wouldn’t George Clooney be a better choice (since he’s looking for someone famous)? Brad doesn’t look like him at all.

  7. KromBoom says:

True Faye, true! I want the Rebecca Loos perspective. Like, the whole film narrated by her and she’s the main character (Posh can get a couple scenes.)

Katie Holmes could play Rebecca. Or maybe Emily Blunt if we’re gonna be classy.

  8. Ennie says:

Well, brad has the legs and the behind for it, mmmm and the torax and back, but Brad has better arms! In total, Brad is yummy.
Yes, Brad is older, but I can see why would say that.

  9. ANDREA1 says:

I hope he realises Brad is far older than him! Well they look good together and am So happy they worked through their difficulties together and have come out stronger. I love them as a couple and they are also hands on parents to their kids.

  10. Kate says:

Ha, I love that she needed to add David to the mix to secure the Vogue Paris cover. Her talking about David’s achievements is calculated. In the US she’s a celebrity in her own right, in continental Europe she’s just another WAG.

  11. Sabah says:

I think it is soo sweet that he picked jolie for Victoria. Like, he knows Angie is ranked as the most beautiful woman in the world, so it just shows how he sees his wife, it’s such a nice compliment. I love them

  12. lenje says:

I like the Beckhams, but I find it amusing that Victoria is finally on the cover of Vogue — and she edited it! 🙂

    • lisa2 says:

I thought she has been on Vogue before.. just not the US Vogue.. I could be wrong. I recall Laniey talking about it all the time on her blog.

      maybe someone else knows.

      • lenje says:

I’ve always assumed Victoria Beckham would love to be on ANY Vogue cover, but I guess you’re right, she’s looking at the US Vogue. But French Vogue is nothing to be ashamed of 😀

  13. feebee says:

I have a feeling he was joking (esp given Pitt’s age).

  14. Chloe says:

James Franco should play him with Seth Rogen as Posh spice!!

  15. Dani2 says:

Gorgeous shoot, surprised by how much I like it.

  16. Moohoo says:

I don’t find either of them that fascinating and I wouldn’t watch a movie about them. What would the plot of this movie be that would drive people to the cinemas to see it? They have done well in life but they don’t represent anything other than posing good looks and fashion. football and music, the original drivers for them both, fall a long way down the list. There haven’t been any jaw-dropping incidents except an affair and a potential kidnapping. I think that you could apply both of those stories to any famous person.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Well it could potentially come at an angle of them working on strengthening their marriage, after David’s affair (with Rebecca Loos), after the kidnapping threat–OR how Victoria actually applied herself to her work. I don’t know too much about her, the only thing I know is that she was the Spice Girl who couldn’t sing (and I’ve heard a few of their songs and I’m wondering how any of them ever got signed on at all), she married Beckham, and became a WAG–then all of a sudden she fancied herself a designer or something–people (probably) laughed at her, but she kept going. And became quite respected, in the fashion world at least.

I think THAT would be an interesting way to do a movie.

On the subject of Angelina, I would love to see a movie on just how she decided that she was going to start doing her UN work, and how/why she adopted Maddox w/out Billy Bob. Even if it was just for lifetime. I think that would be a good movie, especially for young people. A LOT of girls my age are really only concerned w/having boyfriends. I had this friend who would date anyone, if it meant she could say that she had a boyfriend. She even asked my brother, who she knew didn’t like her anymore, just so she could say that she was seeing someone. And we were only 15 at the time, so I can imagine its gotten worse.

    • Evi says:

I imagine the central plot would be about her shopping for herself and them shopping as a couple, followed by his apparent OCD tendencies [based on her own description of him in her failed reality show].
      Quite boring really.
If people thought the Sex and the City films were purely based on strategic product placement, a Beckham film would completely be a two hour advertisement on fashion, rivalling the September Issue.

      • Baskingshark says:

The film would be a documentary about media manipulation and would cover such topics as picking something to become famous at when you have vast amounts of money but your only talent is self promotion (hint; it is much better to do something that doesn’t require you to carry out the creative process in public like singing, acting, being a TV presenter or having a reality show, and much, much easier to choose something like being a “designer” where you can pay other people to design clothes behind closed doors, then just take the credit.)

As a subplot, it would also look at how to model cheap mens’ underwear when you have a thoroughly average body that looks like you allowed your children to scribble all over it with magic markers, but which can be made to look decent-ish with the assistance of photoshop.

  17. smee says:

Um, isn’t Brad too old to play DB? Especially if they’re going to do his early career? It might be funny, but surely there’s a young guy who looks enough like him (with a squeeky voice).

  18. ANDREA1 says:

    I like the pictures too.

  19. Pip says:

As David has gotten older he is starting to look like Ricky gervais so i vote for Ricky to play him in a future bio pic.

  20. Faith says:

He’s joking,Brad’s older than him,and if he’s 38? That means Angelina is older than his wife too.Besides i don’t know if i like Vik yet and i don’t want her to be the reason why i don’t watch an Angelina Jolie movie.

As much as i would like to see AJ and BP in the same movie,i want them to be nemesis this time.

  21. Evi says:

God love him. He’s not so bright…

  22. SuSu says:

Brad´s way too old to play the young sporty Beckham or even the now-Beckham. He´s 50 years old and yes girls he begins to look like Val Kilmer…
I think David said it only for PR… of course someone like Beckham wants a superstar to play him in a big movie. It´s for the ego.

    • cs says:

You obviously haven’t seen the new pics of Brad since he cut his hair. Brad looks nothing like the bloated Val Kilmer. I don’t know many 50 year old actors who look as good as Brad and in good shape ( perhaps Tom C. and Johnny Depp) . I’m swooning over his WW II film photos. I don’t believe he was joking since he also mentioned Bradley Cooper in the article as another actor to play him. He said” I go for the good looking guys”. It’s obvious he was man crushing on Brad as other’s said or knows he’ll get some press by mentioning Brad Pitt.

  23. Baskingshark says:

“I can’t believe I’m being so optimistic about them, but I really do think their marriage is incredibly strong.”

Haha. You know nothing, Jon Snow.
