Did Jessica Hart get booted from Victoria’s Secret after shading Taylor Swift?

wenn20848079

Several weeks ago, Victoria’s Secret did their big runway show and it was sort of bland, but Taylor Swift performed on the runway and she got rave reviews. For the most part. One model, Aussie Jessica Hart, gave an interview shortly after the runway show and Hart was asked if Swift looked good up there, and if she could be a Vicky’s model. Hart unleashed her bitch and declared that NO, Swift didn’t “fit” with the models and that Swifty lacked the je ne sais quoi that comes with professional modeling. Well, Hart got smacked down really quickly and she was forced to issue a clarification (which didn’t make any sense) and the CEO of Victoria’s Secret even came out and tried to do some damage control. Surprisingly enough, Swifty hasn’t publicly spoken about the incident at all, but I would imagine that some phone calls were made, don’t you? And here’s further evidence that some people (Swifty!) are still mad at Jessica for shooting her mouth off:

No one will say so, but 27-year-old Australian beauty Jessica Hart will no longer be used as a model for Victoria’s Secret after she dissed Taylor Swift, who performed on the runway in a leg-baring outfit during the lingerie giant’s Nov. 13 fashion show.

Asked at the afterparty at Tao if the pop star could “pull it off” as a lingerie model, Hart told WWD: “No… God bless her heart. I think she’s great… But I don’t know, to me, she didn’t fit.”

Five days later, Hart — who, unlike Miranda Kerr and Karlie Kloss, is not one of the company’s elite “supermodels” — tried to make amends, telling Us Weekly, “I adore Taylor Swift and I was so excited to be with her at the Victoria Secret Fashion Show… She is a true rock star and she absolutely killed it the other night.”

But the damage was done. Sources say execs at Victoria’s Secret are furious, and won’t be inviting Hart to walk in next year’s show. The gorgeous blonde also won’t be seen in the brand’s upcoming catalogs.

[From Page Six]

… And Jessica Hart was never heard from again. Seriously, the only reason I bothered putting a face to the name was because she had the audacity to shade Swifty, and now that Jessica is being pushed out on her ass, her modeling career is going to be pretty much over. Maybe. Never say never, I guess. Miranda Kerr got pushed out of Victoria’s Secret too, but her career is still hanging in there (mostly based on Miranda’s cultivation of her own celebrity brand). But Jessica Hart? No one knew who she was before the Swifty comments, and I can’t see how anyone will miss her now.

So Swifty is an industry heavyweight now? SAD.

    • Tapioca says:

As cloying as Taylor may be, she sings, writes, plays guitar, attracts tons of media interest and makes a truckload of cash for all concerned. Several truckloads.

Jessica Hart OTOH is one of those models that makes you nostalgic for the nineties’ supers, so she’s infinitely more replaceable!

    • Thinker says:

Look at her album sales. She’s been a heavyweight for years now.

    • Bluebear says:

I don’t think this is so much about Taylor Swift as it is about Victoria’s Secret being seen as “girls club” where all women are accepted and it’s a giant slumber party pillow fight. The image of a model who was the “Rizzo” at the sleepover, making fun of the talent doesn’t fly with the VS image, and so she was tossed. She was there for her body, not her opinions.

  2. Talie says:

She’s dating a billionaire heir — he hasn’t put a ring on it, but I’m guessing she’ll be fine.

  3. Dani2 says:

I doubt this is true but if it is, then that is a total OTT reaction. I’m a huge Swiftie fan but I didn’t even find much that was wrong with what Jessica said, all she did was expose her stupidity because she sounded like she was trying to say that Taylor wouldn’t make a good VS model when in fact, Taylor was there as a musical performer.

    • Florc says:

As a VS model she’s representing the VS brand. When asked about something that’s VS related she’s got to stick to the script. She should have kept her opinions to herself and said Swifty was gorgeous and would make a lovely model. Nothing negative should have left that woman’s lips. True or not.

It seems unlikely to me Swifty had this girl fired. More likely VS execs ordered the firing just based on the backlash.

      • Dani2 says:

I get all of that, however, it just sounds like a bit of an overreaction to me, I doubt Taylor’s fans will decide to boycott VS stuff because of it (her super-fans are younger than the VS target audience). It really wasn’t news outside of Internet gossip blogs.

      • MynameisPeaches! says:

Agreed. She’s should have given the PR answer.

      • Beth says:

@Dani2 I think it’s more about attracting future guests and making the brand less appealing to music heavyweights. Fewer bands will want to perform if it means bad publicity for them, esp from brand ambassadors, which hurts their views and marketing. Also, if she can cause that much controversy answering a simple question, they won’t want her in a position to answer any more.

Also, the catwalk is more for guys, but VS Pink is definitely geared towards Swifty’s fans: young girls.

      • Florc says:

        Dani2
I don’t think her fans boycotting is what they were trying to avoid. It was the bad press imo, but if her fans did boycott it would hurt.

VS also has Pink. A huge chunk of her fanbase is from 14 years and up. Her concerts are filled with girls in the 17 to late 20’s range. Those girls are in a group that VS nd Pink markets to and depends on for bulk profits.

And as far as it wasn’t news outside internet blogs.. That’s how most people get their news now. Social media and blogs. I don’t like it, but it’s the truth.
I stopped shopping at VS years ago. Their products are cheap in quality.

    • Kate says:

But the question compared Swift to the models, it wasn’t about what Hart thought of Swift’s performance. Hart made the mistake of using the opportunity to tout modelling as a skill when she should have just brushed the stupid question away, but it isn’t like she went out of her way to point out Swift isn’t a model. She was answering the question asked, she just answered too seriously.

  4. eliza says:

She should have been booted because of her less than special face. I see her look every day of the week. She’s ok but nothing special.

These models need to know when to shut it. Opening their mouths is never an asset to their careers.

  5. Aussie girl says:

Jess hart does a fair but of work in Australia and I’m going to guess she will be doing a lot more now she has burnt her bridges in the US. I can’t say I really feel sorry for her. I’m no Taylor swift fan but Jess’s comment was a mean girls one. Taylor has done nothing to her personally and was hired by the same company that has hired her to model. She disrespected VS and a much, much bigger star than she will ever be. Silly girl

    • paola says:

true.. but I agree with her. Swifty is not modeling material..she doens’t have it for me. Her hunched shoulders and posture are just wrong. Plus in my eyes she is as sexy as Goop, which is zero.

      • Katttt says:

I suppose the point is though that Swifty wasn’t there to model but to sing. I agree Hart’s comments were just mean girl-ish.

      • paola says:

yes but the question was ‘Coudl Swifty be a model?’ the answer is no.

    • Talie says:

Jessica has a history of doing stuff like this — she was in the news for pulling some mess with another, much bigger model, Natasha Poly. It started a huge brawl between a bunch of rich dudes.

      • LadySlippers says:

If Talie is correct, her Taylor comment was probably the straw that broke the camel’s back for VS so it wasn’t the only reason she was ‘let go’. If she has a history of being difficult no one wants to work with that type of person. Especially when they can easily get someone younger, cheaper, and hungrier.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Interesting. I can see why VS would drop her. They don’t need a loose cannon out there. She sounds very unprofessional.

      • Dani2 says:

Okay so this makes more sense to me now, if she has a history of doing this, then she definitely needs to be fired. She’s not even one of the more well known VS models so I don’t know why she thinks it’s okay to say what she said, I agree with the other commenters who said she should have just gone with the safe, PR-approved answer.

  6. Han says:

Is taylor the new gwyneth paltrow?

  7. Frida_K says:

Pettiness on all sides, that’s what this is.

    • Anastasia Beaverhausen says:

Agreed. And apparently swifty is becoming more popular on here…that or people can’t read

  8. Kate says:

Maybe it’s because I’m Australian so notice her more, but to me it seems like she has a pretty successful career. She’s never going to be a Gisele, obviously, but she’s had a very steady modelling career for 13 years, which considering the rate of turnover in the industry is pretty great. She’s been the face of a ton of brands in Australia (for a while there she was absolutely everywhere and she still has some big-ish contracts) as well as international brands like H&M and Bobbi Brown. She’s been on dozens of high profile mag covers. She had 4 years with VS, that’s more than most models outside of the ‘Angels’ get. She’ll be fine.

    • yup says:

Too bad she couldnt manage to fix her teeth

      • Lotta says:

I love her teeth and that they are not perfect, it makes her more interesting and I think it’s sexy.

I know about her before I know of Taylor Swift, whom I’ve only heard about from reading her on Celebitchy, and I’ve still haven’t heard any of her music, but I’m not american and I’m probably to old to be in Taylor’s main group of fans.

  9. klue says:

Yes she deserves to be fired..for being an unprofessional bigmouth biatch

  10. pretty says:

lol at that first photo. that stocking(?) makes her look like she has hair all over her thigh. hhaahahahah

  11. Lila says:

This is why you should think before you mouth off about anything related to your job. I wouldn’t be surprised if this were true but I doubt Taylor Swift had much to actually do with it. At most I’m guessing one of her people expressed unhappiness and that is why the CEO got involved with damage control.

I’m guessing what she actually got fired for was being stupid enough to make a tacky comment about a major star like Taylor and her VS performance to the media. Taylor was obviously a major get for VS. Her fan base is almost exclusively women, especially younger women and teens, a market VS has been strongly focusing on the last few years. Why would VS want someone around who is saying shit about her, and tying it directly to VS? Especially someone who almost exclusively models for the VS Pink collection that is aimed directly at that market? That’s just stupid all around and Jessica Hart deserves to get dropped for it.

  12. stellalovejoydiver says:

    hahaha, oops.

  13. gogoGorilla says:

I’m sure she’ll be fine, people know who she is now, blahblahblah.

Honestly, if she said what she did just to be shady, I’m glad she got canned.

If she’s just dumb, then maybe VS should teach their models a few canned responses to give to the press.

  14. Lark says:

Ugh, I don’t get people blaming Taylor for this shit. It was probably VS, it’s unprofessional to publicly shade the big name performer at the show and VS had every right to be pissed about that. Plus, let’s be real in the VS world she’s getting up there in age (which is depressing). So they kicked out a no-name, “aging for the VS world” angel for being a loudmouth.

  15. blue marie says:

open mouth, insert foot right? dummy

  16. KromBoom says:

I suspect it’s not the particular comment about Swifty that got her fired – it’s the fact that Jess Hart made it clear she wasn’t going to stick to the VS script. The execs probably thought it risky to have a model that might insult someone in the future.

She should have been like that other ex VS girl, Miranda, and limit her bitchiness to Photoshopping her competitors’ waists a little bigger.

  17. TG says:

Are her teeth jacked? I just can’t with those teeth.

  18. Moiselle says:

They all look the same anyway. Will anyone even notice?

  19. SuSu says:

a lot of VS-models have to go after one show… if you´re not one of the famous “faces” then they´ll replace you after one or two shows.

To be fair Hart was the only interesting thing this time. VS shows are boring as hell lately. Even the bland performance of Taylor would´ve been forgotten the day after the show without Hart´s words…

  20. Melody says:

The way I see it, she was about to age out of VS anyway. So – why not orchestrate something that will get you a bunch of attention and raise your profile a bit while you still have the spotlight. It will land her a bigger multi-millionaire husband. She’ll have kids in 2 years. Mark my words.

  21. Audrey says:

She’s an idiot. She killed her own career.

  22. Kezia says:

If you read fashion magazines/follow fashion Jessica Hart is one of the biggest models out there & I don’t get people shading her teeth, that’s what makes her look unique. Not everyone has to have generic veneers put on their teeth. I would assume she thought they meant Taylor suiting as a performer? Which would make sense as how could you strut a catwalk to baby ballads about sparkle ponies & the like!

    • cs says:

No one has heard of this girl before the Taylor incident so she can’t be that big in NYC or any other city. She’s no Adriana, Miranda, Karlie, Candice, or Gisele. Those girls could’ve made the same comment and no one would’ve blink an eyelash. However, they wouldn’t since they are professionals. I read on another blog that she said Kanye didn’t fit either after he performed at the VS show. This girl is just a bitter aging model that wants some press. I’m not hating on the gap teeth but she’s not a stand-out. I don’t think in 2 years anyone will remember her or her slight since no one knew who she was in the first place.
and Taylor just performed for Prince William and performing at sold out stadiums in Australia that no other woman has performed since Madonna 20 years ago. .. Who is this girl again?

    • Caroline says:

I can name about 100 models that are more successful than her. Trust me, she is nobody before this incident, and will be nobody hereon after.
The bottom line is, models are easily replaceable, and no brand or rich millionaires are seeking models who are unprofessional and unpredictable. Furthermore, she’s already 28? so should definitely have know better!!

    • Dani2 says:

“how could you strut a catwalk to baby ballads about sparkle ponies & the like?”

This comment shows how much you actually know about Taylor, Taylor performed “I Knew You Were Trouble” at the VS pink show, and the song was very well suited to that part of the show. Jessica Hart is one of the lesser known models, she’s no Gisele, neither is she a Cara, heck, she’s not even a Karlie! That comment she made has given her about a year’s worth of press, but as the others said, she will be quickly forgotten.

  23. TeresaGiudice says:

When keepin’ it real goes wrong!

  24. Sachi says:

I think her comments put her professionalism into question. You don’t criticize a star that your employer signed on for the sake of honesty. If she got asked what she thought, then she should have just given the blandest answer.

Who cares if Taylor Swift didn’t fit in? Jessica Hart was there to model, not judge whether Taylor Swift can be a model. These questions are never meant to be answered honestly. I doubt the reporter was actually expecting a serious answer.

It’s like a red carpet interview: nobody really says what they think. Everyone is full of praises for each other and everyone is an amazing actor, they all look gorgeous and everybody says the other celeb is gonna win the award, not them. From the way they talk, you’d think they all get along and are BFFs.

    • LadySlippers says:

      Very well stated Sachi.

    • Apsutter says:

Seriously, it was a softball bullsh*t question just to get a soundbite and her response was completely meangirlish. And I don’t believe for a minute that the models aren’t media trained within an inch of their life by Vicky’s so there really is no excuse for her comment. And I doubt that Taylor had anything to do with her firing. I’m betting the the higher ups at Vicky’s were incredibly ticked off that the focus was on one of their no name models(not even an Angel!) and not on the biggest event they throw all year

  25. Dommy Dearest says:

If anyone tries to say that Swift wasn’t on that stage trying to pose and strike a look like the other models I’ll scream BS. Hart was probably insulted some bit that she was trying to get in on the action with she (Swift) was there just to perform. In which I can see the negative attitude but this comment is as much as I care about the whole thing.

    • campbell says:

As a former pro model, I can promise you that any girl who stepped into her big fat mouth the way JH did, would also have been summarily dismissed. Sorry, but they actually DO teach you to smile pretty for the cameras and stfu if asked anything controversial. JH knew better. She just let her ego/ mean girl instincts get in the way. Ok, then. Bye-bye.

  26. bagladey says:

The tone of her comment was very condescending with the “God bless her heart”. It just begged the question: Who is this person and just who does she think she is?

  27. Rux says:

Girlfriend should have kept her mouth shut. I am from the South, hardcore South, and saying “God Bless Her Heart” is NOT “nice” it’s JUST “tacky” and a backhanded compliment.

  28. Meggin says:

That VS model looks like a backwoods hillbilly.
