Angelina Jolie’s fancy private plane was grounded by the FAA, how fancy

jolie1

I can’t wait to see what the tabloids do with the story. “Angelina Jolie Homewrecks FAA!” Or: “Angelina Jolie Declared Too Thin To Fly!” Or perhaps: “Brad Abandons Angelina, Angelina Put On Terrorist Watch List!” Something like that. The basic story is that Angelina forgot to renew the registration on her fancy Cirrus plane, so now she can’t fly it. But I think Angelina owns several planes, and she still has her pilot’s license in America and England anyway, so couldn’t she just borrow someone else’s plane?

Angelina Jolie has been banned from flying her personal plane after she failed to renew its registration in time.

According to FAA documents, the 38-year-old movie star did not file a new airworthiness certificate for her $360,000 red-and-white Cirrus SR-22 before the current certificate expired June 30.

A renewal application was sent to the agency by Jolie’s team for the plane, one of the world’s fastest single-engine aircraft, but we’re told it didn’t arrive on time.

An FAA letter to Jolie’s Chivan Productions, sent at the beginning of September, said the certificate could not be renewed because the application was too late.

Despite this, flight records allegedly show the plane was flown in Montana in October. The documents don’t indicate who piloted it, but show it was flown without a valid certificate.

Jolie has previously been spotted taking Brad Pitt and their kids Shiloh, Maddox, Pax, Zahara and their twins, Vivienne and Knox, in the jet — which can reach 300 miles per hour and can deploy a parachute to land the entire plane safely.

[From Page Six]

Yes, this story is only really interesting because it’s about Angelina Jolie. This is the normal-person equivalent of realizing too late that your driver’s license expired and you have to make the trek down to the DMV. No one is going to tell Page Six about that mess! That’s really all it is! It’s just fancier because it’s a plane and it’s Angelina Jolie who has the registration. That being said… it does sound like Angelina was flying her plane illegally, maybe. It was either Angelina or someone else. Ah, governmental red tape and celebrity gossip.

This story reminds me of my dad. His driver’s license is renewed on his birthday (or supposed to at least) and he forgets EVERY SINGLE TIME. My mom was yelling at him a few days ago, because he kept forgetting to put his stickers on his car–they’d been sitting on the counter for days.

  2. Helvetica says:

She does not look good in that matronly dress.

I know she has been getting thinner and thinner. I wonder if she is sick. Anyone else?

    • LoLoLoLoL says:

She’s been the same weight for years. With every new photo people act like she’s lost an enormous amount of weight when the truth is she lost the lbs when she started dating pittstain then it got worse when she lost her mother. she hasn’t recovered the weight since.

    • Cecilia says:

      @ Helvetica

It’s hard to look at her & not think that.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I do think she is too thin–she would look a lot better w/an extra ten pounds on her face. But she mostly looks exhausted and frazzled to me. Especially in the pictures of when she was getting her Oscar. Brad and Angelina both looked like they wanted to go to sleep and not wake up for a long time. Maddox was the only one who looked cool–that’s kids for ya.

I imagine that she didn’t think that she’d even be filming, when she heard that she was getting the Oscar–because she wasn’t supposed to be filming until this coming January–so I’d imagine that she thought that she would have her summer/fall off, spending it in London w/Brad–in December she would scout the locations (or do it in August/September like she did do it), and then film.

But I do think that she does need to slow down and rest–but it didn’t happen that way–her summer and fall were already taken care of. And I imagine it’s not going to get any better–doesn’t Maleficent come out in January?? So she’s going to have to do press for that–if 12 YAS gets a ton of noms (which it did in the SAG category), then she’s going to be out and about in the awards seasons. Then she’s going to have to put the film together, and the cycle begins again.

But yeah–she needs to slow down and rest. Maybe in my own fantasy world, but if I ever became a celebrity, I’d want to be a director–who writes her own scripts. Ergo, I’d be the sloppiest director ever. You’d all be on here talking about how I look like I rolled out of bed in the same clothes (I probably wouldn’t change either–I’ve been in a pair of leggings, tank top, and sweater jacket thingy (like JA’s big sweaters) all week, obv. I showered and everything)–I’m fashion challenged on purpose.

      Aims-Love it!
These two are modern day “Liz and Dick” not kimye.

      • ANDREA1 says:

        Paige So True!

      • TC says:

Huh, Liz and Dick?! Ah, no. Liz and Dick were famous for their numerous booze-fueled brawls and their verbal take-downs of each other. They were known in Hollywood to have been a loud and out-of-control couple who fought hard and played harder. They were melodrama personified.

Brad and Angie seem much more grounded and low-key. I’d compare them to Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward WAY before a Liz and Dick comparison.

    • TC says:

Cut and pasted my comment to its proper location (see above).

      • Paige says:

Long before ‘Liz and dick” became known for their drunken brawls they were two well known actors who when they very messily and publicly hooked up multiplied their fame 10f fold and were known for living large, lavish gestures and photo mayhem when they appeared with their kids….
        See it yet-TC??

  5. doofus says:

a plane that has it’s own PARACHUTE?! how cool!

    • lucy2 says:

You know, I’ve always wondered why they don’t do that on more planes. I’m sure the physics of it or something don’t work, but it seems like on smaller planes at least, as a last resort it might slow a crash down enough to be survivable.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

That is cool–now that I think about it.

I would not want to get a pilot’s license–I’m a huge chicken, and I’d freak out if anything went wrong. I can only imagine how I’d feel if the plane I was piloting had my kids and man aboard.

      • Amy Tennant says:

Me, too. I could never–but then, Angie’s just cooler than I am all the way around (sigh). She is so badass. I am actually relieved to know her plane has that cool parachute thingy!

      • ANDREA1 says:

        @Amy Tennant
True! Is there anything this woman can’t do? 😉

That’s not even First World Problems – That’s Top 3% “problems.”

  8. Grant says:

I’m sorry, but Angelina IS alarmingly thin. If this were Jennifer Aniston we were talking about, I’m almost certain that we would be discussing her similarly. That being said, her children are beautiful and I respect what she’s doing as a female director. I could care less about her plane.

  9. Gossipfun says:

I would not worry about her health. I am sure she knows how to take care of herself to the extend that she has to sacrifice her vanity (mastectomy) to reduce the risk of getting cancer. She has all the best care that you and I can on envy.

  10. Lucky Charm says:

So she snuck into Montana in October? Amazing how she can be all over the world at the same time.

    • taylor says:

Yeah, that’s what struck me, too. How was she in MT in October when she’s been in Australia since…September, right? I can believe someone flew the plane, but not AJ.

  11. lisa2 says:

Funny thing is it doesn’t matter what the actual story is about, because the only thing some people will comment on is her weight. I don’t know why they don’t just reference the last comment they made on a different thread saying the exact same thing. over and over and over.

but it’s Angie so when you have that thing it is your go to.

and since Angelina and kids arrived in Sydney in September and have been there the entire time; October included… highly doubt she flew 20+ hours to the US to pilot her plane illegally….

    • ANDREA1 says:

You know now she is not going braless So the only thing left is her weight ha! 🙂

    • Amy Tennant says:

Clearly she isn’t getting enough calories or she wouldn’t have forgotten to renew the registration! Concern-trolling! Concern-trolling!

    • Kim says:

Lisa2 now you know Angie flew from Australia to go to Montana to smuggle drugs, orphans, elephant tusks, anything illegal and then flew back to Australia . Angie is always up to no good 🙂
BTW my car registration expired In November I hope my local newspaper doesn’t print that info

      • Camille (TheOriginal) says:

And then she ran over a few puppies and kittens and murdered a few people while she was at it too. 😉

  12. Scarlet Vixen says:

A 360k plane isn’t that fancy, actually. I know several retired pilots and regular folks that have their pilot’s licenses that own planes of that caliber.

A little off-topic, but a bit of a funny story on how the ‘other half’ lives: My husband is the financial director for the aviation department of a family owned company in the Midwest, and they own 12 airplanes (and a helicopter), some are owned by family members and some are owned by the company. Long story short, some family members were bitching that one of the siblings kept chartering their airplanes (even tho she pays for it), so they got together and insisted she buy her own. Just a few days later my husband gets a phone call, “Hey, so-and-so just bought her own airplane–how do we process the transaction?” “Ok, that was quick…how much was it?” “Only 3 million–she cheaped out!” Who in the hell spontaneously makes a 3 MILLION DOLLAR purchase??

    • Amy Tennant says:

I knew this rich couple, and one time the wife locked her keys in the car and the husband just sent another set of keys to her in a helicopter.

  13. swack says:

My brother flies (rents his planes) and we were talking about it one day. Planes go through rigorous inspections and quite often. If you don’t get the paper work in on these then the plane can’t be flown. I keep looking at the dress in the top picture. I like it except that there is TOO much lace on the top. Just looks weird to me.

  14. JALorden says:

    Why is this worth posting?

  15. Leek says:

I love me some Angie, but, my God, those boobs look so uncomfortable. I’m also shocked she went so big. She doesn’t seem the type.

    • Lila says:

I’ve been wondering if they are her original size, like pre-children and pre-massive weight loss when her mother was dying. Her boobs were pretty big when she was younger. Maybe through breast feeding and weight changes they deflated and lost their shape so when she got new ones, she got her old size and now they look enormous compared to the last few years, particularly since they were swollen for so long. I agree she doesn’t seem like the type to go up a size but I wouldn’t blame her if she just got what they used to be.

    • Maya says:

How do we know if she has gone a size up? For some women it can take up to 1-2 years before the swelling goes down after a mastectomy – that could be the case with Angie as well. Maybe the swelling hasn’t gone down yet and that’s why it looks so big.

But if she did have them done bigger – then that’s none of our business.

  16. Mama says:

Hmm. Don’t care about the registration, as I’m overdue on my own car registration. I just can’t believe that she flies her children in that plane. I don’t care if it has a parachute – she doesn’t have enough experience and there is no way she’s flying with the regularity one would need to be an expert. Aside from the kids, I would not even put my own life at risk like that now that I’m a mother.

Flame me if you will, but it’s reckless and irresponsible.

    • Kim1 says:

So mothers shouldn’t fly planes ? What about fathers? You have no idea how often she flies. You have no idea how often her instructor serves as her co pilot. She has been flying since 2003 or 2004.Travolta,Harrison Ford,Cruise, etc also have flown family members in single engine plane. Are they reckless as well?

      • Katherine says:

You tell them, Kim. People never know what the JPs are doing – NEVER. So how do they know when she’s flying a plane and what plane she’s flying. The flight records never say who is doing the flying.

The plane’s manufacturer is up north in Minnesota so who knows where the plane ended up. I would think at some point the plane may go there to be serviced and now it needs a complete check of the plane by an FAA certified mechanic for recertification of air worthiness. There may very well be exceptions to the grounding such as for recertification checks and maybe for servicing. As if we even know details of the grounding. for instance the owners/operators would have to receive proper notice and with the FAA who knows how long that takes to go out after a grounding determination is made. Some pilots were commenting elsewhere about this and there were a bunch of gripes about the FAA and its inefficiency as in losing renewals sent in 3 times for one pilot.

When it comes to Jolie people fall all over themselves to create a hullabaloo out of nothing. Ah, the power of The Jolie. It’s amazing to witness.

      • Mama says:

That’s exactly what I said, Kim1. No one with children should fly a plane *eye roll*. You have no idea how often she flies, either, but we can bet that it isn’t as often as a professional pilot.

As for me, my kids need a mom more than I need to get my rocks off flying a dangerous and powerful small aircraft. Maybe you don’t have kids and can’t understand where I’m coming from. If you DO have kids, would you put them on a plane flown by an actress?

      • ANDREA1 says:

Lisa2 and Katherine you both have made excellent points just ignore mama who doesn’t know what she is saying and seem to think her parenting skills or methods are the best. Women like to put women down for no good reason more especially that its Jolie we are talking about. You both have given excellent points So just forget her! 😉

    • lisa2 says:

OH my.. the I’m a better Mommy than she is..

are you serious. Angelina has been working on a film for months. Do you not realize that she was not flying a plane in October because she was not in the country.

and my goodness you sound so superior. I’m sure Angie’s love for her children is no less than your love for your children. She made a decision to undergo surgery in the hopes that she would have more time with her children. Hardly the act of a woman that is so callous with her life. She has said that she doesn’t fly with her children or alone if she has not had many hours in the seat.

and believe or not just because you are an actor does not mean you can’t be other things too. Unfortunately accidents happen. They happen with novice pilots and pilots with years of experience. It is called life.

and you have you panties in a bunch over a non story.

      • Mama says:

Lisa2, the story above says, “Jolie has previously been spotted taking Brad Pitt and their kids Shiloh, Maddox, Pax, Zahara and their twins, Vivienne and Knox, in the jet”. I’m not saying anything about her flying the plane in October, which is obviously highly unlikely. It’s also highly unlikely that your panties will EVER be unbunched in a thread about Angelina Jolie.

If she said she doesn’t fly alone or with her kids when she doesn’t have a lot of hours, I’m glad to hear it. I still don’t think it’s prudent. And I didn’t say that I love my children more than she does. What I WILL say is that I love my children enough to consider their safety and well being as my top priority. If you want to get me started on Jolie’s parenting, I’m happy to take the bait, so be careful what you wish for. I’m pretty sure your head would explode.

      • lisa2 says:

Baby you give your opinion way too much credit. You don’t know squat about her parenting. I for one don’t make judgments about how people parent their children. I find that stance very arrogant. I know that we don’t live in their home nor do we know what their everyday life is. As I would not judge you as a parent. And let me say you can ramble on about Angelina as a mother all you want. It is your opinion. and as we know everyone has one. Even if it is based on gossip.
so don’t worry about my head exploding. Your thoughts, opinions judgments don’t travel with me when I leave this site. And I could almost bet Angelina nor Brad give a shit either.

see that is how important your thoughts on her and how I feel matter. So if you need to vent.. go ahead.. obviously you take her actions very seriously/personally; so knock yourself out.

and Angelina does not fly a jet.. LOL see all that concern for nothing.

    • Sal says:

Sorry but that sounds nuts. She is obviously qualified. Its a fact that is far riskier to drive a car with your kids than it is to fly so should no parent drive a car? Honestly you’re being ridiculous. And we know that Angelina is a wonderful mother and her children are very lucky to have such a great upbringing with Angelina as their mother.

    • Maya says:

@Mama: what a judgemental person you are – I sincerely hope you don’t raise your children to be as judgemental like you.

So mothers shouldn’t fly or do anything to put their children at risk? You put them at risk everytime time you drive a car with them, everytime you cross the straight with them etc. The only way you can ever keep them safe from everything is by locking them in the house and never let them out – even that is not safe with burglars etc.

As a mother who flies with the children – Angelina will difinitely be extra cautious and would never take any unnecessary risks – just like any other responsible parent.

PS: are you only attacking mothers or do fathers deserve the same judgement? If not then you can add chauvinist to your list alongside judgemental as well.

Thanks to a poster from JJ who reposted this from US mag.
This just shows that the medias’ need to attack AJ is more important than the truth.Thank god we are not all sucked in by the constant lies.
Thanks to the posters who set ‘Mama’ straight. Probably does not have any children at all.

from a poster in USmag, :
    “Incorrect reporting on many levels.
    1. The Airworthiness certificate is issued at the time the plane is built and is never “renewed”.
    2. The registration is late because the FAA had so many bad records in their system they forced every owner to re-register their aircraft. This has never been done in the history of the FAA and it caught many people off-guard.
    3. Re-registering is FREE. There is no fee or penalty cost.
    4. She is not grounded, just one of her many planes is not “legal” to fly till it gets registered. Should take about a week to fix.
This is a non-event reported incorrectly.” – larput

  18. Delorb says:

For the umpteenth time, Angie didn’t wreck a marriage and Jennifer didn’t do anything wrong. The person who wrecked that marriage is BRAD PITT. Angie didn’t break any vows and Jennifer has gone on record as saying that she WANTED children and that Brad had checked out of their marriage, early. Of the 3 of them Brad is the only one who broke his vows and LIED to his loved one. Don’t understand why we women are pitting one woman against the other. Brad almost NEVER gets roasted and he should (except, it’ll probably stink to high heaven and get everyone in America high).

Angelina Jolie’s Cirrus — Valid or Not?
By Mark Phelps / Published: Dec 12, 2013

Fresh on the heels of reports that partner Brad Pitt has bought himself a Spitfire, actress-pilot Angelina Jolie’s name splashed across page 6 of the New York Post with an aviation-related story. “Angelina’s Plane Grounded by the FAA” was the headline. Lurid as that sounds, it appears to be no more than a complex paperwork mixup.

The paper posted a copy of a September 6 FAA letter to the production company listed as co-owner of Jolie’s 2006 Cirrus SR22 indicating the registration expired in June 2013 and providing instructions (and required forms) to update the registration certificate. The FAA said the re-registration application was received (and dated before the June 30 expiration), but one of the signatures “appeared to be a copy” and had to be signed in ink. Further complicating the issue, the FAA website lists the Cirrus as having a current valid registration through December 2016 (December 2006 is when the original registration was issued). What gives?

The problem appears to be related to the October 2010 change in FAA registration procedures, requiring owners of then-currently registered aircraft to “re-register” them, with the new registration lasting three years. There are separate forms for “re-registering” and for “registering” an airplane. If the three-year period has lapsed, the owner can no longer use the re-registration procedure and must to revert to FAA form AC 8050-1 — the “registration” application. So Jolie’s team was required to file a different form when its first application was sent back due to the signature.

Angelina Jolie and the team that looks after her FAA paperwork would not be the first to run afoul of this confusing procedure — but most other aircraft owners would be unlikely to see their story as fodder for the tabloids.
