LeAnn Rimes’ performance ‘trick’: think about sex to avoid crying on stage

lean1

I can’t believe I’m going to do this, but I’ve got to defend LeAnn Rimes about something she said which I think is being misinterpreted. Immediately following her Patsy Cline tribute at the ACAs several nights ago, LeAnn gave a series of interviews. One of them was to Entertainment Tonight, and it seems like LeAnn had literally just walked off stage. She was asked about her tears following her performance – she was visibly emotional as she sang, and she cried on stage. LeAnn told ET: “It was intense. … And about halfway through Crazy, you see people start to cry and then you’re like, ‘oh my God.’ My guitar player, he’s always giving me the tricks that work — always think about sex when you start to cry — and I was thinking about sex a lot throughout the whole thing. … By the end of it, it was just such an emotional moment for me.” Here’s the video:

It’s clear that she’s saying that “thinking about sex” is a trick that some performers use to keep from crying in the middle of a song, right? Because I feel like some people were covering this like “LeAnn cries on stage when she thinks about sex.” Or: “Sex = tears for LeAnn.” No, it’s a trick! It’s a performer’s trick to keep from weeping during a song. There. I defended LeAnn. ARE YOU HAPPY, GOD?

Meanwhile, LeAnn gave a new interview to the Argus Leader (??) which I only know about because she linked to it on her Twitter. Even though I just defended her, I can’t really defend this interview. She spends the majority of the interview whining about how famous she is and how the paparazzi stalk her and wait outside of her house every day. Er… gurl, you are not Angelina Jolie, you know? Yes, the paparazzi get photos of you when you’re shopping on Robertson or when you call them to get photos of your step-sons (like you’ve admitted doing, remember?). Let’s not play this “I’m oh-so-famous, it’s such an awful burden, I can barely walk two feet without being recognized!” game. Enough. Oh and LeAnn says the reality show won’t air until July. WHAT THE WHAT? It won’t air until July? How is that possible?

I never read anywhere of people mis-interpreting those comments….except probably of Brandi Glanville obsessed fans? Brandi is a racist drunk who brings shame to her kids by flashing her breasts and tampon strings to the paps.

At least Leann has never done any of that.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Oh brother.

LeAnn must constantly remind us of how very sexy she is, how very, very much sex she is having with Eddie, no really, when she’s about to cry, she thinks of the fabulous sex she is having with Eddie, who loves her, and only her! And isn’t cheating! And loves her!

      She’s so pathetic.

    • crab says:

Oh brother is right! Last week everyone was defending Brandi and harping on Leeann saying she’s crazy and SWFing Brandi and blah blah blah blah! ! Now its a new day and its time to turn on Brandi!! Whatever!!

    • dls says:

why must you mention brandi? No where, anywhere, did this article mention her? You are a piece of work

    • Leslie says:

@Gossy says (or Stalker LeAnn or one of her paid minions) lots of gossip sites and blogs ran with the story of how stupid LeAnn was to ruin a decent performance by letting s**t come out of her mouth with those comments. Interesting that you never saw it till it was posted here. And LeAnn’s being stupid has nothing to do with Brandi. Brandi wasn’t at the event.

    • Kellykat says:

Give us a break, Grossy Leann.

    • Stacey says:

Mis-interpreting ? PAB much? We get it – she blew it. Again.

Jump on over to mail online or Radar for a start. If pushed for time read the top rated comments. http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/12/leann-rimes-breakdown-thinking-about-sex-patsy-cline-tribute/

Her new PR team seems to have a handle on her twitter but not so much with interviews. Or Christmas card.

    • Jennifer12 says:

Oh, Gossy, honey. Um, she was photographed stripping off her clothes and making out with a friend while Eddie took photos and the kids were inside. She was photographed grabbing Eddie’s privates in front of his sons repeatedly, including when he was newly separated. She was photographed on top of Jake so that she could make out with Eddie. She was photographed with her breast popping out of her dress. She was on national TV drunk off her ass, dry humping a 13 year old. She’s been photographed in thongs, bending over for photographers. Did you want to know more?

    • norma warner says:

She has the tattoo “The only one that matters”, on her ankle.

  2. Aims says:

When I think about her having sex it makes me cry.

  3. Celeste says:

I think she was crying for many reasons. She finally had an audience of more than 20, and they weren’t sitting in lawnchairs. The lyrics were representative of the current state of her martiage. (Leann and Eddie have allegidly been separated for a month) She was also probably crying because she can see how far she has fallen, career-wise. Maybe the homewrecker/stalker thing wasn’t such a good idea after all.

  4. Patricia says:

No. Just no. This is just yet another way for her to reference her sex life. Women who are insecure in their relationships aaaaalways have to talk about their sex lives at the most inappropriate times and to anyone who will listen. It’s gross, like everything else about her. Gross!!!

  5. Celeste says:

I used to really like Brandi but I think she’s taken her brash thing too far into crass. RHOBH won’t last forever, and there won’t be much left for here after that.

    • Jayna says:

I agree. The way this year and season is going for her, it’s not good. Even Kyle and Adrienne, who were loved the first season, have never turned their popularity around after turning off so many people, Adrienne especially and she’s gone now. Kyle is so-so, but the first season she was the most popular and was never able to regain that popularity again after her bitchy antics.

      • LAK says:

If Camille can turn it around after the hate she had from the fans after season 1, so can all these women. The more drama they bring, the higher the pay check or at the very least contract renewal. They all behave badly on purpose and the joke is on anyone who thinks any of this is real. The perfectly behaved women are hated by the fans and their contracts aren’t renewed. This seems to be the policy across entire franchise.

It’s a fine line between being a bigger drama queen than the rest and not going so OTT that it turns off the viewers eg MCFR, Taylor and that lady with the $25,000K sunglasses [can’t remember her name, can’t be bothered to google] found out. That’s the line they have to watch.

Some choose to step away when their real lives are exposed as Camille and Adrienne did.

Lastly, someone always receives what’s become known as the ‘B!tch edit’ amongst the fans. Meaning they are edited to look really bad compared to the others. This season’s B edit looks like it’s shaping up to be Brandi. That’s not to say that they don’t deserve the B edit, it’s just a thing they do every season. Not sure if it’s intentional on the part of Bravo.

      • Just Me says:

Exactly what LAK said. It’s entertainment. I don’t think any of it is real. Sure is fun to watch though!

    • briargal says:

Gosh, I had to go back to this article a couple times to try to find anything mentioned about Brandi! Are my eyes playing tricks on me because I didn’t even see Brandi’s name mentioned, or was this comment just made by a Brandi hater? The whole article is strictly about entitled little brat LeAnn–her performance–and any comments made by LeAnn. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH BRANDI!!!

  6. Erinn says:

Do you know what’s ACTUALLY a sure-fire way to not cry? Clearing your throat. You can’t do both at the same time.

I think she WANTED to cry. She wanted to hear the headlines of “Leann’s emotional performance”. She wanted it to be all about her, and how she used to be toted as the girl who sings like Patsy.

If she had just done her performance, which wasn’t perfect to begin with, and then talked about what an honor it was, or how meaningful it was to her, I could chalk this up to a win. It’s the fact that she can’t shut her stupid mouth that gets her into trouble. She can’t just let her work speak for itself, or focus on professionalism.

    • Dinah says:

Your second paragraph sums up this entire situation quite succinctly; it was all about delusions of former grandeur. And note- there were no *tears* (that I could see in video or stills), just an expression one would associate with an actual bout of tears.

    • Christin says:

I also think she would have appeared to cry regardless of audience reaction. It brought the headlines and attention to her instead of the honoree. And it was capped off with an interview about the very specific way she attempts not to cry.

In my opinion, a more appropriate response would have been, “I am honored to pay tribute to such a legendary performer. She was an incredible singer and a trailblazer for all female country singers. Her songs are so timeless and moving.” Keep the focus on the music and, in this case, what should have remained a respectful tribute.

For someone in the business 20 years, her PR awareness is amazingly low.

  7. Secret Squirrel says:

I like her in the pink dress. It suits her body shape nicely.

I recall Elton John having to think of something else whilst singing “Goodbye England’s Rose” at Princess Diana’s funeral. It is a common thing for performers to make mental lists etc to disengage from the emotion of the song they are singing. Just unfortunate that LeAnn was still caught up after leaving the stage and probably said more than she meant to (I hope).

    • Blannie says:

But why in the world take a picture in the pink dress in a SHOWER STALL? I don’t get that at all. And I agree with other posters. She just cannot shut her trap. Ever.

  8. Gen says:

I don’t get the picture of her in the showers with the dress on?

    • heidi says:

The only reason I could come up with for her being in a shower room right before a performance – it’s not the first time she’s been photographed there before going on – is that she might be relaxing the voice box/lungs. Does anyone know if this is a technique some singers use?

    • MrsBPitt says:

She was obviously trying not to cry, so was thinking about sex in the shower! She is a moron!

    • claire says:

She sure does like to pose in bathrooms. We’ve seen her on a urinal, on a toilet. Now we’ve got the complete set with the shower.

      • briargal says:

But just think, it is so appropriate for her being in the bathroom as her career is in the toilet ready to be flushed!
While her appearance Tuesday night was somewhat a good one, that was not enough to say she is making a comeback and will be successful again. Especially when she can’t learn to just shut up!

    • Jessiebes says:

Maybe she just wanted to be alone for a while to gather her thoughts etc, and the bathroom was the only place without other people?

Except for the photographer of course.

  9. TheyPromisedMeBeer says:

I don’t care what she thinks about to make herself stop crying. All I want her to do is stop get the bottom of that gorgeous pink dress off that shower floor in the top pic. I don’t care how clean that room is.

(I desperately want that dress, btw. I would treat it so lovingly).

    • Jayna says:

I love that dress. The best she’s every looked for a performance and the most flattering gown or dress she’s evey worn and so pretty. When you see it up close you really see how beautifully it was made.

Her boobs look so much better and smaller. I think she’s had something done to them. When my friends with boob jobs have gained weight, their boobs get even bigger. To the point, one of my friends staying at a larger weight reduced her implants to a smaller size. LeAnn is bigger but her boobs are definitely smaller. And they don’t look so far apart . They actually looked good in the dress.

      • Dinah says:

I think the boob thing is just an issue of proportionality now that she has fleshed out. There’s more adjacent subcutaneous tissue, so she doesn’t have that clearly demarcated bolt-on look anymore. JMO.

      • Kellykat says:

That’s funny, I think the opposite. You could drive a truck through that refund gap!

  10. Jayna says:

More like, I’m about to cry,” think sex, think sex,” and then on to the next note. I did enjoy the performance. Keep it up instead of your bikini photo-ops.

  11. Rita says:

Good grief, are we going to do this AGAIN? Fine.

LeAnn said it because she’s an absolute idiot. Does anyone really think that a performer on national television singing a medley of difficult songs while trying to project emotion, control their breathing, concentrating on beat, tone, range, volume, style, and appearance is actually focusing on sex??????????? No, this was purely a ploy to bring her more of her sustenance….aka, attention.

She could have talked about how emotional it was to honor an icon like Patsy and put the light on Patsy’s legacy instead of her own self serving narcissism but that would require a character which is absent in this nut.

    • Kayla says:

@Rita, I absolutely agree! She takes one step forward and ten steps back. The girl just doesn’t know when to shut up and leave well enough alone. I just shook my head when I heard her comments. Girl is as dumb as rocks! PR needs to put the tape on her mouth when she is not singing. I did like the pink dress. I thought she looked like a lizard or a snake in the other one.

    • emmie_a says:

ITA Rita. I didn’t need clarification from anyone about what LeAnn was talking about. Yes, I know she said it was a trick to keep her from crying (and I think most people realized what she was saying about the trick)… BUT the problem I have with her talking about it is, well, she’s talking about sex once again and it just wasn’t the time or place to bring her sex life into the mix. Her *shocking* statement overshadowed her tribute to Patsy Cline, but I guess that is EXACTLY what LeAnn wanted to do because as always, everything has to be about LeAnn.

Plus, as LeAnn always reminds us, she’s been in this business since she was practically a baby. I’m sure she’s had to give emotional performances before. Why mention the sex thing now?? Because she wants us to think about her & Eddie having sex and detract from all the break-up rumors. So, no – there’s no defending her on this one.

      • Kellykat says:

Yes, everything always is about her. Totally selfish and arrogant. The exact opposite of Patsy. As someone below says, karma and time will not remember her kindly.

  12. heidi says:

I went to the Argus Leader to read her interview. She says the paps wait outside of the 3-gated community where a number of celebrities reside, not just her and Eddie. I’ll give her credit for not making that part only about her.

  13. LeAnn Stinks says:

I am just shocked that LeAnn Rimes, of all people, would make such a moronic statement. Oh wait, no I’m not.

  14. dls says:

I understand the point the author was making, but I still feel that, under the circumstances of paying tribute to someone as timeless and beloved as Patsy Cline is, it was a tasteless, unclassy comment. Leann should have taken a moment and composed herself, then thought about what she should say. As for her and the photographers, i dont see jennifer gardners every move or a lot of others, so i call bs to Leann on that one

    • Christin says:

Seriously, who are her other celebrity neighbors? I wish she’d name names of who else is being hounded. I thought their short sale casa was not exactly in a high end (A-list) neighborhood.

  15. Deanne says:

This could have been a win for her. The pink dress looked lovely and for the first time in a long time, she looked polished and appropriate. LeAnn, being the unhinged person she is, had to open her mouth and say she thought of sex the entire performance to keep from crying. No one needed to know that, if it was in fact true, She could have simply said that she struggled not to cry because she was so moved to be honouring Patsy and it would have been sweet and charming. She constantly brings up sex. I don’t know if it’s because she wants to be viewed as sexy or if she’s trying to let everyone know that she and Eddie have sex. Why a supposedly, happily married woman would feel the need to do this, is beyond me. Every interview that ET does with her involves the subject of sex in one way or another. It’s so obnoxious and like she’s protesting a little too much. For someone who likes to brag about her epic 20 years in the business, she sure hasn’t learned much about good PR.

    • briargal says:

I had to chuckle at your comment about ‘her epic 20 years in the business”! (I know SHE thinks she is still so important in the business). She had a couple hits when she was younger and now can’t attract many people to her concerts. There are a lot of much better singers now and she will always be a singer with hits in the past!

      • Deanne says:

The article that she linked to referred to her as one of the biggest stars in the music industry. Really? In what alternative universe? She hasn’t been a big star in over a decade. For someone who tells everyone else to move on, LeAnn sure lives in the past when it comes to her career.

    • Relli says:

I am going for A, “she wants to be viewed as sexy,”

Which as a former total uggo and chubbo as a kid I can see the appeal in wanting to be desired. I think thats what the bikini parades and beach parties were also about becuase she lost a ton of weight and stole the “hot” husband from Barbie. She felt loved up and desired and WANTED EVERYONE TO KNOW AND DESIRE HER TOO!

      • Kellykat says:

Great point. This has become the most important thing in her life. She only feels self worth when she “wins” over Brandi in her daily swf battles. “I am the better lover/wife/mom/twitterer/reality star” “I am a tall, thin, beautiful model” That’s why she wears clothing that is so wrong for her body shape and the ridiculously high heels every where. She has an obsession with being Brandi, sick.

      • Annie says:

I think she struggles with weight because her thinner weight was like this trophy ” look what I can achieve kind of thing”, it got her more attention and super skinny seems to be Eddie’s thing, I get the feeling he preferred her thinner…. but the heavier weight is far more praised by the public in general and Leanne lives for praise ….she’s torn by trying to please everyone which ends up being incredibly off putting, much more so than just doing her own thing and sticking by it whether “people” like it or not.

  16. Leslie says:

LeAnn is not very bright, and she just proved it. I can’t imagine any PR team in the universe taking on this nut case. IF she does have a PR team (and I don’t think she does), they need to set her down and give her PR boot camp on how not to make yourself look stupid. And while they’re at it, if she wants to “promote” her happy marriage, they need to give her some body language tips.

  17. GirlyGirl says:

Does Eddie think about sex when he needs to cry on camera?

    it might work.

  18. CaliforniaDreams says:

Personally, I think she said this cause Brandi’s opening scene the night before was a detailed convo with her friends about what kind of sex they prefer. Just seems like Leann wanted to use this opportunity to say “I’m like totes obsessed with sex too!!!!”

    • Legggggs says:

…I had to register after reading all this hilarious riveting MeAnn stuff for the past few years. I swore I wasn’t going to register just to comment on MeAnn, but I am powerless. Acceptance is the first step. LOL So, this summer while driving cross country, I came upon a huge billboard in the middle of nowhere (it was really Wyoming) with nothing for hundreds of miles but me and this billboard. It was an advert for MeAnn “intimate and personal” in concert at a casino up yonder. I always wondered if she showed up for it…I’ll never know…

      • Christin says:

If that was in late August, I think it was a no-show (illness). Sad to hear they paid for billboards to promote it!

Wyoming was right before the now almost infamous overseas *tour*.

  19. kellyinseattle says:

She makes everyone in her “audience” cry, too……

  20. JustNow says:

One three minute performance changes nothing about her. She’s still ugly, arrogant, ignorant, and obsessed with herself, attention, Eddie, Brandi, and Twitter. The real circus is going to begin when Eddie official exits the marriage, and she can no longer stage, pretend, and lie about what a wonderful husband and life she has. Karma isn’t going to be kind to her.

  21. Carolyn says:

This is an absolutely beautiful dress. Whoever styled her for this performance got it right.

  22. Jane says:

Personally I would have loved to see one of Cline’s descendants come forward to say something along the lines of : How dare that POS come onto an award show to honor Patsy and then give a disgusting interview saying that all she thought of was sex during the song when she should have been thinking of how honored she should be instead. Think about it. Patsy Cline songs do not equate to sex. God, I just can’t with this woman. She is so socially inept and morally corrupt.

    • briargal says:

And I get the feeling she will NEVER change!

      • Jane says:

That’s because she is so mentally unstable that she thinks her s*** doesn’t stink, she walks on water, is America’s sweetheart and so unique and special because of her “youngest Grammy win” all those years ago. If anyone tells her otherwise we are “haters” and bullies.

At the same rate all this talk about her cleaning up her act (presentation-clothes-wise).You can dress a skunk in the cutest outfit the da**ed thing is still a skunk. I think you get my meaning.

    • Christin says:

Your comment reminded me of how she was hyped when invited to perform at the 3rd annual Patsy concert in Winchester (Patsy’s hometown). Here’s the sales pitch for her:
      http://www.nvdaily.com/news/2012/09/country_singer_leann_rimes_to_play_patsy_cline_theatre-print.html

This year, Merle played the event. Seems they didn’t need to convince people to buy a ticket or explain his career in as much detail:
      http://www.nvdaily.com/lifestyle/2013/09/country-star-merle-haggard-to-headline-patsy-cline-classic.php

    • ya says:

Patsy Cline’s hits were sexy/torchy for their time, and she caused controversy both for her public persona and her private life. She was pressured by her managers to ditch the traditional country-style dresses she wore for sexier, formfitting cocktail dresses and heels. Her hits were also, by the standards of the day, not necessarily considered country music – Patsy Cline at the time didn’t consider them to be country, and she had to be pushed into singing them – they were torch songs.

In terms of her private life, it’s well documented that Patsy cheated on her first husband multiple times, including with married men – she eventually had an affair with the man who became her second husband while still married to her first, creating controversy in the media. And Patsy was never apologetic or conciliatory at all about having the affairs. Her second husband ended up cheating on her and the relationship was pretty tumultuous.

So to say that Leann Rimes is too immoral to sing Patsy Cline’s music is very hypocritical.

      • msw says:

Thank God she didn’t have a twitter 😉

      • Christin says:

All these years later, the first thing that comes to mind when hearing Patsy’s name is her timeless, wonderful music, not personal drama and smugness. She helped other singers without being jealous or trying to overshadow them.

Those are the kinds of things that stand out over her difficult childhood and personal life. I can understand why someone would want to ride her coattails, though. Hardly any of today’s singers will be remembered 50 years from now. Most are just legends in their own minds.

      • Jane says:

At least Cline didn’t spread this type of behavior all over God’s creation like Leann does on Twitter. She had the common decency to keep a good portion of it under wraps to an extent that even I didn’t know about her personal life. I know more about Leann’s sex life and sick behavior than friends I’ve had for 30 years. And oh…by the way…as if being called hypocritical is going to ruin my world. Please!

      • ya says:

Honestly who knows what Patsy Cline would have done if she had lived nowadays, with access to the internet, especially considering how single minded she was about her ambitions. On the other hand, I doubt she would be bleeding insecurity all over the place like Leann does.

By the standards of the day, Patsy didn’t make attempts to keep her private life under wraps, nor did she ever apologize for her private life (that was a time when the media – especially in country music – were much more judicious in their reporting about the private lives of celebrities, but still, her indiscretions came out).

I don’t think there is anything wrong with that – she lived in a conservative time, when obviously women in the music business struggled to keep control over their own careers. She did whatever it took to build a life for herself, even if that meant flouting the morality of the day, and even if it meant basically giving a finger to her haters at the time (and she had many haters who were frequently misogynistic in their criticism of her).

  23. msw says:

She’s so funny. She wants to be sexy so badly, but she just can’t.

Someone made a comment once that SueAnn is like a dog that won’t stop making eye contact with you while humping your leg.

  24. Zooyork says:

    Leann looks hard and matronly!

  25. dontbuyit says:

An opportunity to get her failing career a step above her has-been status, once again she reminds us when all is said and done, how unlikable she really is. I don’t believe she was thinking about sex, but knowing it would make interesting tabloid fodder, which sadly is not the case.

Leann acts as if having her voice enables her to be a complete smug a***ole. She is special, voice of an angel. Not really. It would do well for Leanne to face facts. Her voice is nothing special nowadays. She can sing when focused, but her voice is nothing superior. I don’t know if she is aware but her signature singing traits are not positive ones. Can not enunciate and warbles.
