Ashley Judd accused sister Wynonna Judd of putting a tracking device on her car

Los Angeles Premiere of 'Olympus Has Fallen'

This is a complicated story that may have a simple explanation. ABC News got hold of a police report, filed by Ashley Judd, in which she accuses her older sister, Wynonna, of placing a tracking device on a vehicle that Ashley owned, which was being driven by someone else. Because Ashley can’t explain anything succinctly or clearly (seriously, have you heard her speak?) ABC News doesn’t know how to report this story other than to repeat the confusing details in the police report. When you read TMZ’s version, they make the situation pretty clear. The car was being driven by Wynonna’s teenage daughter, and that’s why someone placed a tracker on it. Wynonna wanted to know what her daughter was up to. I gather from these two stories that Ashley has custody of Wynonna’s daughter. Here’s TMZ’s version:

Wynonna Judd is being accused of attempting to secretly track her sister Ashley Judd’s every move … by placing a GPS tracking device on her car.

The incident was first reported to police back in November when Wynonna’s daughter drove Ashley’s car to a mechanic … and asked them to check for a tracking device — according to reports.

The GPS device was located … so they reported it to police — and an investigation was launched to figure out who put it there.

According to the police report … when cops contacted Ashley asking if she had any idea who placed the device on her ride — Ashley pointed the finger at Wynonna.

Detectives tried in vain to reach Wynonna … so they contacted the P.I. to whom the device was registered — but they got the cold shoulder.

Wynonna’s lawyer eventually called police — and said the whole thing was a misunderstanding … the singer was just trying to track her daughter whom she knew had been driving the vehicle.

[From TMZ]

ABC News has more, including the detail that the tracker may have placed on the car by Wynonna’s ex, her first husband, Arch Kelley, not Wynonna. (Although Kelley denies this, and it sounds like Wynonna admitted to TMZ that she was the one who arranged for the tracker.) Kelley has two kids with Wynonna, 17 year-old daughter, Grace, and 18 year-old son, Elijah. (Kelley is not the horrible excuse for a human being who was convicted of attempted aggravated sexual battery against a minor, that was Wynonna’s second ex-husband, her former bodyguard D. R. Roach.)

So instead of realizing that Wynonna or her ex husband was tracking their teenage daughter, Ashley called the cops. This points to a pretty intense family feud. I want to know the details behind what happened, but even if Ashley tells the press everything it still won’t make sense. We’ll have to wade through a word salad so deep that it won’t be worth the effort to get to the truth.

I thought I was the only one who had no idea what Ashley says- ever.

I also can’t quite follow this story (tracking devices on cars? how “spies like us”).

I do like the pics you chose. :)

Doesn’t anyone else want to know why Ashley has custody of Wynonna’s daughter?

    • Jag says:

Supposedly, the daughter was driving Ashley’s car, which she did often. The girl took the car to a mechanic who found the tracking device behind the passenger’s seat. Since it was a tracking device, they called the cops. The device was registered to a private detective who didn’t exist, and Wynona admitted that she put it on the car to keep tabs on her daughter. Apparently, the girl once went missing for a number of hours during a connecting airline flight, so it sounds like there isn’t trust there.

I do very much want to know if Ashley has custody, and if so, why? And why would Wynona be tracking her daughter if she doesn’t have custody?

As much as I dislike Ashley, I’m team Ashley on this one.

  2. LadySlippers says:

Lord Allmighty the Judds’ are a talented bunch but they sho do like to bring their crazy with them.

Joking aside, I always hope and wish families (even famous ones) are able to heal old wounds and start to live a healthier existence. This kind of stuff is not good for anyone….

May the entire Judd clan (and all families) find hope, health, and happiness in the New Year.

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

    That is one dysfunctional family.

  4. Meggie says:

The drama llama is strong in this one. As always.

  5. Talie says:

They all seem crazy as hell, so I’m not surprised Ashley would call the cops on her own sister.

  6. Coco says:

    Them Judd’s be crazy.

    That is all

  7. Ellie66 says:

I wonder what Mama Judd has to say about all this (the Orginal Crazy) Lol! Ashly has always struck me as very snobby and Wynonna seems a little nuts.

  8. Christin says:

Allegedly the young daughter has created some drama (went missing for days at age 14), but I’ve never heard that Ashley actually has custody.

This is one dramatic family that appears to have a third generation of dysfunction coming to light.

  9. klue says:

Joan Fontaine & Olivia de Havilland did it so much better. And classier. Try again Judds

  10. blue marie says:

Umm, if I found a tracking device on my car, I don’t care who did it but you damn right I’d call the cops. This family has been screwed up for as long as I can remember..

  11. Patricia says:

This whole family is so insufferable. Why wouldn’t Wynonna tell Ashley that she wanted to track her daughter? You don’t just go putting tracking devices on your sisters car!
They all need to get over themselves. They are gross at this point.

  12. Bananapants says:

Congratulations, ladies. Despite your efforts to prove otherwise, at the end of the day, your hillbilly still shines through.

    • TG says:

Do hillbillies fight about tracking devices? That is some serious stuff. How wild you even know to check for a device unless you believed you were being stalked or harassed by someone. I feel bad for them actually because they were raised by a narcissist. That is why both women have huge issues.

  13. Quinn Parker says:

This clan makes me feel better about my own family…thanks, Judds! :)

  14. Samtha says:

Why does Ashley have custody of Wynonna’s daughter?

  15. Shelby says:

My husband and I met her at an event once , she was such a bitch.

    • Christin says:

She just wrapped filming a movie in a small Virginia town and I was very curious to see if any ‘nice’ stories surfaced from locals who met her on-set or during filming.

There are positive tidbits about every cast member except her. Whoopi was said to be incredibly gracious and spent hours posing with fans at a local restaurant. Whoopi also refused to drink a bottled water until every extra who had been waiting was given water. Yet with Ashley…..crickets.

  16. Tulip Garden says:

In regards to Ashley’s “word salad” way of speaking, I think that it is a defense mechanism. Also, I think it presents a version of herself that she is more comfortable projecting than, maybe, letting herself go. I mean she seems uber-aware of her roots and how that translates for most people (hillbilly). Just a possibility.

  17. Kirsten says:

Hmm ok so I think that Wynonna should have informed Ashley of placing the tracking device on the car since it was Ashley’s property. Also if Ashley has custody of Wynonna’s daughter, does Wynonna have the right to track her daughter… like the legal right?

    • Nina W says:

The laws vary state to state and new technology is out well before laws are written to specifically address their use. I think private electronic tracking is still a bit of a legal grey area and it depends on things like state laws, who owns the car and the age of Wynonna’s daughter.

  18. QQ says:

Ashley Judd so goes the rumor mill is basically Batshit Crazy on a different level than her trashy ma and sister (that reality show was SUCH A MESS OF BUTTHURT FEELINGS AND UNRESOLVED SHIT!) cause she isn’t just crazy she is also hollyweird pretentious, has the whole don’t speak or see me (speaking stones! IF she hands you one you CAN speak to her!!!) ” my dog must be within my view during interviews” etc etc etc

  19. sapphoandgrits says:

Ashley should have called the cops — what her sister and the PI did was criminal. I also find it very interesting Ashley has custody or guardianship of her niece.

It doesn’t matter if Ashley is rude or a bitch or whatever, that has nothing to do with what happened. Also, I don’t think it’s trashy or hillbilly to call the cops when something like this happens. It’s trashy and hillbilly to put an illegal GPS on your sister’s car.

I have good friends who are from Lexington, and they say Mama and Wynonna have pretty bad reps, but Ashley doesn’t, and actually gets a lot of local props for being “down to earth,” including missing being an Academy Award presenter so she could attend the NCAA tournament and watch the Wildcats.

I am actually not a fan of any of the Judds, but I do admire Ashley’s charity work and social justice work, and props to her for watching after her niece. Mama Judd was and is a pretty bad parent, and there’s a reason why she’s not allowed to visit Ashley unless she calls first and gets permission (yes, I saw that on Oprah!).

    What a mess.

    • Jackson says:

I think you summed that up really well, and I agree.

    • Tulip Garden says:

I really enjoyed your post. I have noticed that Ashley’s rarely gets props for her social justice/charity work. Meh, I can see where she may be a major snob but I do think her heart is in the right place in regards to helping other people particularly young women.

    • Aysla says:

All good points. I actually didn’t know that Wynonna had so many issues, nonetheless that she didn’t have custody of her daughter. Does the custody thing have anything to do with her ex-husband (the violent one)? Is a drug problem? *Goes off to google*

    • nicegirl says:

I wonder if the custody arrangement has something to do with the fact that Wynonna’s ex was convicted of aggravated sexual battery (not sure of the actual charges/conviction) of a minor and he could not live in a home with a minor/the minor child did not want to live with/near him/ or someone who would protect/live with/marry him? I could be way off base here but I have heard of other situations like that . . .

  20. Heat says:

Love can build a bridge…and crazy can install tracking devices.

  21. Tippy says:

Did Harvey Levin indicate whether the GPS tracking device was in fact illegal, and if so what specific law was violated?

  22. shellybean says:

Ashley is a crazy ass bitch. She is a total head case.

  23. Jane Q. Doe says:

Does the girl driving the car necessarily mean Ashley has custody? I mean, maybe she just allows her to drive it? That does seem to point to issues between Grace and her parents though…
