John Mayer jokes about buying Jennifer Aniston an engagement ring

black ball 2 131108

John Mayer has impressed very few people with faux-intellectual “wit”. Just in the past year he dumped Jennifer Aniston, then gave a press conference to the paparazzi about the break up. He’s blogged away his feelings and his thoughts about politics, and most recently, he made a faux-inspirational video mocking Brad Pitt.

The gossip has been steady over the past month that John and Jennifer are over, big time. After each supposed “confirmation” by some “insider” of the break-up, John goes over to Aniston’s house for a little pap-friendly photo-op. Now Mayer is (jokingly?) blogging about buying Aniston an engagement ring.

John Mayer might want to take a look back and remember what happened the last time he over-shared with the public – he and Jennifer Aniston broke up, reportedly partly because of his friendliness with the press.

And even though Jen said in a recent interview her boyfriend hadn’t been blogging lately, the singer is back to communicating with his fans and making jokes about his personal life.

“Visiting the Diamond Exchange in Tustin,” he wrote on his Twitter page Friday, following it up Saturday with, “Welding an engagement ring for my girlfriend.”

While he may have meant “wielding,” there’s no doubt that John enjoys toying with the press over his relationship with Jen, especially as the Marley and Me star approaches the big 4-0.

However if John keeps updating the public on his relationship status, there might not be a relationship. Stay tuned!

[From OK! Magazine]

I think OK! is wrong, I’m pretty sure Mayer meant “welding”, as in he’s joking about making the engagement ring himself. As in, another little dig at Brad Pitt, who designed his and Aniston’s weding bands himself? Or is that a stretch?

For as much as other celebrities are accused of courting the press, there are few that rise to the level as John Mayer. I’m sure in his mind it’s all a witty joke, but I just find it sad.

Here’s John Mayer at the Keep a Child Alive benefit in November. Images thanks to WENN.

Make room for me on the sadness bench. He gives new meaning to attention-seeking. If he wasn’t such a tool, I’d feel embarrassed for him.

The only joke is the press is still paying him attention after JA left.

I find his jokes rather funny. Mostly because other people get so offended or weirded out by them. Come to think of it, it isn’t really the jokes that are funny, it’s other people’s overreactions. Like with a certain video that people had to bend over backwards to find “mocking Brad Pitt in” and yet still can’t say exactly what it is he said to mock Brad Pitt.

Give it a rest. The reason why he’s saying these things is to get bloggers to blog about it and be all “he’s doing this” when really he isn’t doing anything. He’s just being stupid. And bloggers fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Vdantev – Or is the joke that he dumped her? I can’t tell.

I sometimes like his sense of humor. I will not however watch his show when and if it airs. I don’t to this day understand why people think Jennifer is too good for her. She is an adult.. has known several men, and she picked him. I think the choice of a mate speaks a great deal about each of her. He is like a man/child. She herself sometimes talks and acts like a woman/child. Perhaps she needs that kind of man.. So they are just perfect for each other.

This jerk is seeking as much attention as he can get. He is disgusting and obviously using Jennifer. The only thing funny is how despert he is. Jennifer can do far better than this dirt bag.

Blind item last week about an A-list star using her ‘rockstar’ boyfriend as a cover for dating a much much younger man. Sounded very much like these two.

nnnnnargh! Ok John, we’ll go and see Jennifer’s blasted film if you just p*ss off and/or make a “witty” remark that’s actually amusing.

The “Just shut the f*ck up* approach to marketing seems oddly effective…

Sometimes I think he’s all right and other times he annoys the hell out of me, this is one of them. Oh and I think he meant welding too – but because he thought the image of him welding was funny, not because of any dig at Brad Pitt. I can proudly say that I hadn’t the foggiest notion who designed the first marriage’s wedding rings,

It did sound like thinly veiled digs at Brad Pitt to me. Just not very funny. It might be if he didn’t take himself so seriously.

Hear hear Kaiser. Mayer is a total joke & he is getting more & more tool-esque every day.

He is the pseudo-intellectual loud mouth kid in Philosophy 101 who is just looking to score. That sh*t can only fly for so long & I can’t imagine who the hell Mayer thinks he is impressing.

And NotBlonde is right, his jokes aren’t funny.

That relationship is over and he is just taking advantage by getting publicity. He’ll doing it until Jennifer tells the truth that they no longer are a couple.

John, you are so disappointing. When you cut off your hair, apparently you cut off your wit and smarts. So get the thing over with. Weld up a ring, marry the cougar, consult with Huvane re: marketing you as Kutcher ver 2.0. Kiss your career goodbye. Practise big smiles and hand-holding for when both of you appear in ‘Remember Him/Her?’ which will be about 2010.

The only ring this dude should focus on is the dirt ring around his neck – it’s welded on there good and proper. Take a shower John… while you’re at it, maybe lose yourself down the plughole eh?

Ooh edgy… brand new white Converse with a suit. That’s as phony as his “rocker” status — he’s adult alternative at best! I see a deal with Starbucks in his future if this thing with Jen doesn’t work out.

I wish he’d weld his mouth shut!

Jen and John spent Superbowl sunday together, so much for the breakup rumors..and he hasn’t said much of anything about thier relationship for quite some time, no pics of them together since xmastime..so Im not sure about him using JA for publicity..I like them together..shes an adult..can date whomever she wants..

  22. Jeff says:

@So what, that mean they appeared in public for few seconds together but that does not mean they are dating. What if that picture is old? John probably put that picture out and lied saying it was Sunday. That douche is despert for attention and he knows he will not get it with out Jen. Jen needs to grow a brain and denounce the jerk. That’s where Jen’s desperation comes in. If Jen didn’t suffer from low self she would have cut douche bag off long time ago.

@Cheekemunke, I think that blind item is about them to.

I have to agree with NotBlonde.

I’ll take that step further. He’s a real-life incarnation of an internet troll. Look how he jumps onto internet trends and brings them into the real world.

2girls1cup, mentioning that Karate Kid song “you’re the best around”. In that video, All popular internet memes.

Regardless of what you think of him, he is a very sharp guy, he is very intelligent and he’s got an incredible grasp of absurd humor, and knows how to wield it to annoy people who “don’t get it”.

  24. loldongs says:

To be honest. I can’t speak for him. However it seems fairly obvious to me that he’s obliquely making fun of Jennifer and Brad.

“Welding” a wedding ring. First off he’s blatantly insulting the concept of marriage, Rofl.

Statements such as these are blatant insults to the intelligence of the people reading them. I lol’d.

It’s an insult to Jen, as they’re no longer together. He’s making fun of their now defunct relationship.

And it’s very possible he’s making fun of Brad Pitt and by making fun of Brad Pitt he’s again, salting the wounds Jenn has over that relationship.

    He’s a hilarious asshole!

    Beautiful!

Good grief leave these two alone. If they are over we will know. If they are not over we will also know. I do not get why people dislike these two. Have they done something to you personally? He is a talented musician and no matter what you say about Aniston, the girl has lots of money that she made as an actress. So you folks must be incorrect about her abilities. Someone in Hollywood thinks she is doing a good job. I thik they are a cute couple. Maybe if people were not so judgemental things would wor out better for everyone on the planet. I also think Jake and Reese are a cute coupe. No one is ragging on them. Wonder why? Jelousy maybe?
