Octomom Nadya Suleman charged with three felony counts of welfare fraud

sulemandefiant21
Octomom Nadya Suleman has a long history of fudging the facts when it comes to using government support. When she first became famous, for voluntarily having a record-setting eight babies at once in 2009, it came to light that she had been on disability for over six years. We also learned that Suleman received child disability payments for three out of six of her older children, and that she also used food stamps, despite insisting that she was “not receiving help from the government.

Suleman has repeatedly shown that she’s incapable of managing her money, not to mention how she wrangles 14 kids on a daily basis. So she went back on welfare in early 2012, receiving about 4-5k a month in government assistance. Around that time, Suleman declared bankruptcy and signed on to an adult solo film. Under California law, based on the number of children she has, she’s allowed to make $119,000 a year and still receive government aid. (Really!) However, Suleman made over $150,000 in 2012, in appearance fees and various gigs trading on her infamy. Of course she neglected to report all of it, and now she’s been charged with welfare fraud. She’s been under investigation for about 9 months.

Nadya “Octo-Mom” Suleman was charged with three felony counts of welfare fraud on Jan. 6 and faces nearly six years in prison if convicted, RadarOnline.com is reporting.

The charges come on the heels of Radar’s exclusive report revealing financial records in which the single mother-of-14 was shown to have earned much more than legally allowed for her to also be collecting welfare.

Suleman is capped at pocketing $119,000 in a calendar year, but financial records showed she took home $150,248.77 in 2012.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Suleman failed to report nearly $30,000 in earnings while raking in the public assistance in 2013.

The D.A. charged Octo-Mom with two counts of perjury by false application and one count of aid by misrepresentation, which could land her in the slammer for a maximum of five years and eight months if convicted.

[From Radar]

This woman takes resources away from people who truly rely on government help to survive. She also gives the inaccurate impression that more people are abusing the system instead of using it as a last resort. Suleman voluntarily got pregnant with a record-setting 12 fetuses, 8 of which took, at a time when she was an unemployed single mom of six who lived with her parents. She’s never paid rent on any of the houses she’s lived in, and she’s trashed them all. I could go on, but I’ll spare you. Of course she should be tried for welfare fraud, but what will happen to her kids? I suspect she’ll just be called out by a judge and will be taken off welfare. It’s doubtful she’ll face stiffer consequences. This is California, after all. Meanwhile it’s her kids who will suffer, as usual.

At least if she went to jail for 6 years those kids would be taken from her and have a chance.

  2. silken_floss says:

    I forgot she existed -____-

  3. Bree bree says:

    Those poor kids. So sad.

  4. Mata says:

I just feel bad for the kids. I still say that the father and jackass doctor who implanted her knowing her situation should also be footing the bill for the rest of their lives.

    • Lindy79 says:

I was just about to say this.

How exactly did she, while on disability, pay for the treatment (my understanding from friends is that it’s not cheap) and surely there has to be some culpability on a doctors part for implanting 12 embryos, when the recommended amount is 1-3 per cycle, into a woman who already had 6 children with no means to support them other than government assistance.

      • Frenzy says:

The doctor’s license was revoked in 2011

      • Lindy79 says:

Ah right, thanks for that info! 🙂

      • Nicolette says:

It’s quite costly, I am very close with someone who just had it done. What I never understood about this was why did she have this procedure done in the first place? She already had 6 children, and was a single mother. I too feel bad for the kids.

      • Esmom says:

I think she did it because she saw it as her ticket to fame and fortune without needing to demonstrate any talent or hard work. Sick.

      • Brittaki says:

She paid for the in vitro with a workman’s comp settlement she got when she was injured in a riot at the psychiatric hospital she was working at.

  5. blue marie says:

I don’t know if it was done purposely or not but this post being put next to Kimye’s, her and Kim look a lot alike. Both are disgusting, but at least Kim pays her bills.

  6. Aussie girl says:

I will never understand how this, as in her been inseminated with so many fetues was aloud to happen. What else I can’t understand is clearly the women isn’t mentally right, so why is she allowed to raise 14 kids?
The last thing is the plastic surgery. It is quite clear that she has had a lot of work done before and after the 8 babies. Where does this $money$ come from??

    • Secret Squirrel says:

totally agree. The Dr should be sued and lose his/her license to practice for his/her part in this mess. Nadya is obviously a woman who thought she would get rich off the fame, but quickly became overwhelmed with the responsibility of so many children when she really only wanted it to be about her.

  7. Esmom says:

Ugh, she is so cray. Seems the ONLY thing she cares about is the spotlight. Those poor kids.

  8. gg says:

Good pick on the photos. That look she gets when she’s busted for lying again. Looks like she’s thinking, ooo I’m mad, but wait I have no defense whatsoever so I”l just sit here and knit my brows while you grill me and try to change the subject. This cow burns me. She seems unstoppable no matter how much lying she does.

  9. Katie says:

You know who I feel bad for? I feel bad for those of us who bust our butts to earn a living to support ourselves and our families. YOUR KIDS are the ones who will foot the bill when all 14 of her kids start receiving welfare checks of their own. Nadya’s just showing her kids how to screw everyone else out of their hard earned money.

    • Maria says:

I get what you’re trying to say but it’s presumptuous as hell to say her kids will all be on welfare. Not only that, but the connotation that they would be screwing everyone else out of their money reeks of classicism.

Not everyone on social support is screwing over folks (I’m NOT saying you meant this, just making a blank statement). Also, there are plenty of folks who bust their butt to make ends meant but still need help.

I feel sorry for her children because she’s unstable; I hope they grow up with the ambition to excel in a way their mother never did.

      • nicegirl says:

It is a heartbreaking situation with all of those children involved.

I am not sure the children are learning how to “screw everyone else out of their hard earned money” via their mom’s example, though – I might believe that they are learning very little though, and surviving, as children in those types of situations sometimes have only basic survival skills when they find themselves out of the mire.

Good luck and blessings to those kids.

      • Red32 says:

No, not everyone is. I’d say most people on social services aren’t. But Nadya Suleman clearly is, and right now she is the only role model for those kids.

    • jess says:

I worked at a grocery store that delt with mostly food stamp and welfare people. You would be surprised how many people cheat the system. I know people who even admitted to lying to get food stamps. These people drive bmw and carry designer purses and yet they get $1000 in stamps every month. What frustrated me the most is that i was working full time and still had to chose Between paying bills or buying food. They need to go after all these people.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

There are a ton of people who abuse the system where I am–I know that there are people who truly need it, but I just see so many people abuse it. Like I have an aunt who has been on assistance for all of her adult life. I mean she’s in her mid thirties now, and hasn’t ever had a job that paid above minimum wage, despite her going to college (for free!) for nursing–which she can’t be bothered to keep up her certification. She is always going to the movies–always. When Avengers came out, she was first in line. Her two sons all play sports–hockey, golf—where I live the hockey team doesn’t give you any money to help with paying for the equipment, if they have a game two hours away, you have to pay for gas and hotel rooms. Last year my aunt got her tax returns back and paid for both of my cousins to have a thousand dollar golf membership—but she’s living in government housing.

Meanwhile, both my parents work, and we don’t do half the stuff that she does. We don’t go to the movies, because it’s expensive. My dad had to tell my little sister that she can’t play hockey because we can’t afford to pay for all that equipment and the traveling–but someone, who I do love very dearly, who hasn’t earned a quarter of what she has, gets all that for her kids. Man.

      • MarBear says:

I have worked in a grocery store on and off for the last 5 years or so. In college now so hopefully I won’t have to work anymore crappy min wage jobs. Anyways…I witness what you are talking about all the time! It drives me crazy. I have have heard people openly admitting to selling their food stamps. i have people who come in with multiple EBT cards. I’ve seen people pay for 400 dollars worth of food with their stamps and then seconds later pull out wads of 100 dollar bills (believe me I am not lying!). There are customers that drive fancy mercedes suvs and yet have 1200 dollars worth of food stamps. Drives me crazy! I’ll see families come in…The grandparents will use their food stamps…and then the mother will use hers and then oh guess what the 18 year old daughter has one too! It has become a way of life for some people. Government assistance is just that ASSISTANCE. Welfare should not pay for everything. People cheat the system all the time and it is unfortunate….seems like those who really need it don’t get it. Though I will say this…seems like in my town they have begun cracking down on abusers of the system; a couple of women where I live were recently arrested for selling their EBT cards.

      • mc says:

I too worked in a grocery store in college, it’s extremely frustrating to see the abuse of the system. I am a healthcare worker and that is equally frustrating. I’ve lost my job due to lay offs before and needed assistance for food and bills but was told I made too much money for anything other than food assistance. I have serious medical conditions that require regular treatment but didn’t qualify for medicaid because I wasn’t pregnant or didn’t have cancer…. yet I see people who get pretty much whatever they want by just sitting on their butts. I currently have to work 2 jobs to pay my bills and now insurance so I can survive without help because I “make too much money “

    • lolalula says:

I don’t think that simply bc she is dependent upon government assistance is enough to assume that all of her 14 children will grow up to do the same. However, I fail to believe that she’s raising them with the proper values or stability for them to become healthy, happy, and productive adults. Now, that is also a huge assumption. Hopefully each kid will carve out a better life for his or herself; but it clearly that will be in spite of having her as a mother.

  10. Kiddo says:

I blame the existence of reality programming for this woman’s goals and the deplorable situation that these poor children have to endure.

    • Maureen says:

I agree. In addition to robbing REAL entertainment professionals (actors, writers, food services, wardrobe, makeup, technicians, etc) of jobs and benefits, reality TV also contributes nothing positive to society whatsoever. It’s mostly garbage, and what isn’t outright garbage is meaningless nonsense.

    • Tracy says:

Totally agree. This woman had all of these kids believing she would get a reality show and make bank. Poor kids.

      • Jill says:

Didn’t they offer her a reality show but she refused? Mistake after mistake with this one. I hope the kids turn out ok.

    • Lemon says:

So Charlie Sheen is responsible for his behavior (popular sentiment here, which I agree with), but this lady isn’t? She’s reprehensible.

  11. Maureen says:

She can still afford botox and lip injections, I see.

  12. msw says:

great. One more reason for people to get all up in arms about welfare fraud. I hope people are willing to see the woman who is so extreme in so many ways would also be one of the extreme cases of welfare fraud.

she’s a dope. It doesn’t take a genius to Google her figure out that she’s over the income limit.

  13. Zigggy says:

    Loser

  14. Amber says:

Why is she standing in front of a list of Jerry Sandusky’s defense points holding a cup of fruit slush in that one photo? Nothing about her current situation surprises me or confuses, other than that photo.

  15. Kemper says:

I’d like to know what dumbass doctor allowed that many embryos to be implanted into one woman!

  16. JudyK says:

She’s a user and a fraud, beginning with Worker’s Comp fraud before the 8 babies.

She belongs in a Psych Ward.

  17. cody says:

The whole thing doesn’t surprise me. It took the authorities long enough to charge her with something. I am surprised it wasn’t for child neglect. I feel sorry for those kids. Maybe she will be sent away and her children will be finally given a break from her nonsense.

  18. kellyinseattle says:

I thought she d. be out of the building by now…..welfare fraud?….What a surprise.

  19. Christin says:

Kudos to the state for bringing charges. I just read a 2009 article and comments. Several people mentioned that she should be investigated for possible fraud (welfare, disability, etc.). This has been a disgusting situation from the beginning.

Sounds like her next opportunity to milk taxpayers is to get a public defender.

  20. here's Wilson says:

for the longest time I’d get enraged over articles/ situations/ encounters with people abusing the welfare system…. but the truth is a long as there is a system in place to allow people will take advantage…. it’s the system that needs an overhaul

  21. RdyfrmycloseupmrDvlle says:

Shes like the old lady who lives in a shoe……one now “the old lady” is a youngish, mentally off, weirdo with bad plastic surgery……..Geez, the photos of her knitting her brows say it all. I just love how she flip flopped. before they were born she was all about her “love for all the kids.” A real life Mother Earth. Fast forward two years later and I saw her interviewed where she was declaring about how she “cant stand them.” and “they run in all directions.” and are “unmanageable.” My favorite though is her comment about how she cant stand her own kids.
The bottom line is shes not well upstairs. She needs to be put in a hospital and kept there and the children doled out to adoptive families. The Dr. who helped do this should be out in jail right beside her. I hear he used his own sperm so why isent he helping support his own kids??
    Two idiots.

  22. Jennifer12 says:

Yup, that’s the worst part- her kids are suffering throughout life due to her choices. And she should be convicted of fraud, but where the hell would her kids go? Though with wolves would be a better place than with their egg donor.

  23. Snowpea says:

Oh man, I should never click on these Nadya threads cos I always get seriously bummed reading all the comments.

How can you look at this woman – single mum to FOURTEEN kids no less – and not see a woman who has bitten off way more than she can chew and is paying the consequences every single day?

I am a single mum to TWO kids and I struggle along on my own and find it a really tough road. So she ripped off a few thousand bucks? Crikey, I don’t see it as a big deal!

I see Suleman as a woman who has mental health issues- body dysmorphia, maybe even a mild intellectual disability – and feel a massive amount of compassion and pity for her.

I think Americans are way too judgemental about this sort of stuff.

    • Ok says:

Snowpea –I have never seen the term “crickey” used in comments. Very cute term !!!

I guess among the many things about this woman that frustrate and anger the masses is her complete obstinance of common sense practice.

You can be compassionate towards her until the cows come home. She will just do what she wants, whenever she wants, without a thought to the consequences.

The more help you give her, the more stupid, ridiculous, and unreasonable her actions will become.

She does have some type of personality disorder. Probably something I think they call the axis B borderlines.

Your post holds more kindness and benefit of doubt than Nadia is deserving of.

      • Snowpea says:

Thanks ok for the measured reply.

I feel a lot of compassion for people and I am not a Christian nor do I subscribe to any doctrine except for the one that dictates love for humankind.

How can people get so angry about this woman? Crikey! 😉 It is quite mindblowing the way people get so up in arms when in fact she deserves our compassion. That is all.
