Margot Robbie in Elie Saab at the Critics’ Choice: effortless or messy?

Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie is quickly becoming one of the fashion girls of this awards season. Usually Margot goes for major drama with slinky or vagina-shaped gowns. So it’s refreshing that she changed it up at last night’s Critics’ Choice awards by wearing a jumpsuit. This is an Elie Saab look (paired with an Alexander McQueen clutch) and very conservative for Margot, but I think she pulls it off well.

I don’t think everyone could pull this look off. A jumpsuit is something that you have to pretend not to care about, and Margot truly looks effortless here. She’s all, “These sheer sleeves? Whatever.” The big hair and nude lips make her look like she just rolled out of bed, and somehow it all works. This is good bedhead. *takes notes*

Sophie Nelisse

Sophie Nelisse is only 13 years old. She was nominated in the Best Young Actor/Actress category for her role in The Book Thief. Her J. Mendel dress was both age appropriate and funky. Since she’s so young, she can get away with a pink bodice on a white dress with black chiffon at the hem. Plus those silver pumps are perfect.

Aisha Tyler

Aisha Tyler chose a black-and-nude Tadashi Shoji gown. This dress seems very severe for a relatively informal awards show. I can’t imagine she was comfortable at all under all that lace. Everything about her hair, jewelry, and makeup also seems very overdone.

Brie Larson

Brie Larson was nominated for Best Actress in Short Term 12. She chose a navy-and-white Escada Resort dress, which fit the vibe of this event well. With sleeves, this dress would have been too much. It’s kind of a poufy dress, but bold the floral print and cute bow-tie belt make it work. Brie wisely kept her hair and makeup simple.

Elisabeth Rohm

Elisabeth Rohm went for spakly glamour in a full-length Carmen Marc Valvo gown. I’m not a fan of this look at all. Maybe in a bold color, this would have worked, but the beige doesn’t work here. That’s a shame because her hair and makeup are styled beautifully.

I like Margot and I like the hair here and the jumpsuit respectively but it feels like they don’t really go together. Like, you see the hair and you expect a flowing gown or some sort of dress then you’re like, “whoa! Okay, a jumpsuit, a little unexpected”. I like both the hair and the jumpsuit, I just don’t feel like they go together very well.

    • Dani says:

I agree, I think the hair is actually too messy for the jumpsuit. Loose waves or maybe even a bun would go better.

      • QQ says:

        Agree with both of you

Also Sophie Nelisse looks adorafreakingble!! It pains me to see Aisha looking so stodgy and “Old”(tho she is not!)

Elisabeth Rohm looks like the Great Value (walmart brand) version of Rachel Evan Woods

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

        Margot strongly resembles Jamie Pressley

  2. BendyWindy says:

I keep seeing this woman. Who is she exactly? I looked her up on Google and still have no idea. Also, is the angle on that first photo weird? Her waist looks cartoonishly tiny compared to her shoulders. I’m ‘meh’ on this look.

Also, when I first looked at Elisabeth Rohm, I thought it was Sharon Stone with better botox. Oops.

    • Grant says:

She plays Leonardo DiCaprio’s wife in the Wolf of Wall Street. She’s actually really great in the film.

      • BendyWindy says:

I haven’t seen it yet, so that must be why I can’t place her. It feels awful to say, but her looks are very generic to me. I keep forgetting her.

    • Sharra55 says:

I was wondering the same thing! Who the heck is she?

    • BooBooLaRue says:

She seems like another version of Amber Heard. Pretty but meh.

    • Lex says:

She was on an Australian soap for years then moved to LA and was in Pan Am (I believe…?) iin addition to what people said above.
She will always be Donna from Neighbours to me!

  3. MaryBeth says:

I thought Elisabeth Rohm was SHARON STONE!

  4. SonjaMarmeladova says:

Margot is so pretty and I really like her personality. She does look at least 30.
Sophie is cute, but heels on kids freak me out.

    • T.C. says:

      +1

Margot is very beautiful but I’m gonna need to see a birth certificate to believe she’s only 23. She looks much older.

      • magpie says:

Yes, I really want to like her because she seems pretty grounded and smart but she really does not look 23.

      • Lex says:

I said on another post I think people are a bit ‘ruined’ by some of the crazy young faces out there like Selena Gomez or Miley Cyrus… Margot is just an ordinary 23 year old – I am her age and I don’t think she looks out of place. I too have friends with very young faces and friends with.. regular faces… Everyone is different!

She has lovely skin – doesn’t look anywhere near 30 years old!

      • blah says:

I disagree Lex! young faces are supposed to look young because.. they are! You’re not supposed to look like that in your twenties! I do agree with TC and magpie, I truly don’t believe she’s 23. That being said, she’s gorgeous!

  5. Jac says:

I find Aisha Tyler insufferable and I don’t know why.

  6. GlimmerBunny says:

She’s so pretty, one of my new girl crushes but there is NO WAY she is 23 years old! I’m 21 and she looks at least 5 years older than me…

  7. Ice Maiden says:

Congrats Margot – you made an Elie Saab (!!!) outfit look cheap. That’s no mean achievement.

  8. Janet says:

I love Aisha Tyler’s dress. The hair Is too severe. Rohm, I dunno… something about that dress doesn’t fit right.

  9. YummyMummy says:

What happened to Aisha’s face? Botox? Margot looks great!

    • nenou says:

i had to go on google to see if there was another actress named aisha tyler !! she looks like another person ! it’s a pity because she was pretty before

    • MaiGirl says:

Yeah, something happened to her formerly lovely face. I don’t know what, but something BAD!

      • hunter says:

THANK YOU – yes I couldn’t find anything online she’s only linked to the admission of Chen’s eyelid surgery.

Aisha Tyler used to look totally different and had a cool & pretty face, this person looks nothing like her. Also looks independently awful so there’s that too.

    • Wiffie says:

I looked twice because I thought, there is no way that’s Aisha Tyler. I thought it was a late 50s aged actress I’d never heard of. And it was mislabeled. I can’t see Aisha’s face in there at all. I’m so freaked out.

    • MrsB says:

Yeah. She looks like she’s morphing into Star Jones.

    • Stef Leppard says:

      Thank you!!! Aisha, what?!

  10. Grant says:

I think she looks flawless. Love the jumpsuit (and that’s something I never say).

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Me, too! I’m not usually a fan of the jumpsuit, but wow, that looks amazing on her.

  11. teatimescoming says:

Love, love, love Aisha Tyler, and I love her dress. It didn’t photograph especially well here, but it looked really good when she was hosting. If youre looking for good braincandy reading, her memoir Self Inflicted Wounds had me cackling

    • Lucy2 says:

I want to read that, I enjoy that part of her podcast. The detailing of her dress looks anazing, but it does seem too much for this event, as does her make up. I didn’t even recognize her in that first photo.

  12. Marianne says:

Its cool that Margot went for something different. But when she presented on stage, it looked weirdly bunched up.

  13. Sullivan says:

Sophie is adorable. The dress is not too sweet, but age appropriate. She did a good job in The Book Thief. The book > the movie. The book was great.

  14. L says:

I want Brie Larson’s dress. I love that print. I’d want to make it knee length for work, but heck I’d find some place to wear a gown if I had to.

  15. Lucy says:

Margot’ so freaking beautiful, I hate her (I really don’t). And I LOVED Sophie in Monsieur Lazhar!!!

  16. Penelope says:

Damn, Margot is a beautiful woman.

  17. Applapoom says:

She looks like a cross of Lilo and Elizabeth Banks if that makes sense

  18. Sam says:

This is going to sound so pathetic of me but im really getting anxious about the oscars. I really really couldn’t bear it if leonardo dicaprio and jennifer lawrence won!

Someone with good instincts please tell me they won’t!

    • bluhare says:

      They won’t.

    • TheCountess says:

Voting runs from February 14 – 25th, so there’s plenty of time for sentiments to sway before ballots are in hand. I think when all is said and done, Lupita will win (because “Twelve Years a Slave” is in an uphill fight in most categories, and the Academy will want to give it at least one other major award in addition to Best Picture). I still think the Best Actor category is going to come down to McConaghey vs. Dern. Especially with Redford out of the picture, Bruce Dern has a prohibitive advantage with older voters looking to “reward” someone at the end of their career.

  19. Happy21 says:

At first I wasn’t thrilled with Margot’s getup but then I scrolled down. Yup, she’s killin’ it here compared to those other ladies.

  20. Alexa says:

I disagree with you “Bedhead” (or author of this post if I’ve got it wrong), I think Elisabeth Rohm looks absolutely gorgeous – just breathtaking!

  21. TheCountess says:

Margot did look young in “About Time,” but as I recall, the cinematography was quite soft overall. Every other thing I have seen her in, still and moving picture alike, she looks a good twenty years older than she claims.

  22. Biggles says:

Sophie Nelisse has such beautiful eyes. Really, really lovely.

  23. Reece says:

If you hadn’t said that is Aisha Tyler I wouldn’t have known it. Everything is wrong on her. Everything!

  24. Pri says:

Gossh! This Margot Robbie really knows what suits her. Love the hair.
    Good for her.

  25. P.J. says:

I don’t know what girlfriend has been doing to her face but whatever it is she needs to STOP now while she’s ahead. When I first looked-and took a second look-at the headlining pic of Margot I thought she was Jamie Presley and that is NOT a good thing…Eesh.

  26. Fatty Cakes says:

I remember tuning into Pan Am (cancelled TV show a couple years back) to see Christina Ricci and Kelli Garner, but Margot Robbie turned out to be one of my favorites along with Karine Vanasse. I haven’t seen Wolf of Wall Street yet, but I think she was pretty good in that show.

Also–and please don’t give me a virtual beatdown for mentioning this–I did like the way she looked when she was on Pan Am (hourglass figure, but curvier). I’m not sure if she just had a bit extra weight specifically for that show and the time period (early 60s) or if she was naturally curvy and was pressured into being thinner for a Hollywood career. Either way, she looks good. But if it wasn’t by choice, that just frustrates me.

    • Fatty Cakes says:

Well, let me correct my last sentence, since losing weight would likely have been a choice no matter what. If she was pressured into it, that frustrates me.

  27. missykittens says:

Margot is channelling la lohan here. Not really a compliment sorry Margot.
I agree that she looks older than 23.

  28. Mingy says:

im loving margot’s look..jumpsuit, clutch, heck yes.

  29. Goddess says:

Oh my gosh she resembles jaime pressly! Now I remember who she looks like!

  30. MademoiselleRose says:

Margot Robbie, she looks beautiful and I love the outfit, but she kind of looks like that puppet, Lady Penelope, from the Thunderbirds.

  31. Blackbetty says:

I like Margot’s jumpsuit, I’ve never worn one before. She’s done alright for an actor that was on Neighbours.

    • Sprink says:

Yeah, like Russell Crowe, Kylie Minogue, the Hemsworth boys , Natalie Imbruglia, Gut Pearce…
