Nicholas Hoult on Jennifer Lawrence’s winning streak: ‘She deserves it all’

Nicholas Hoult

Here’s a picture of Nicholas Hoult at Sundance a few days ago. He’s hanging with his Young Ones co-star, Elle Fanning. It wasn’t too long ago that Nick was sitting in the audience at the Golden Globes to support girlfriend Jennifer Lawrence as she won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy/Musical. Nick appeared to be completely supportive of his lady.

Since then, Nick’s been questioned about JLaw a lot whenever he gets interviewed. I mean, he’s basically known as “Jennifer Lawrence’s boyfriend” more than for his own career. He seems really proud of her and told People, “She deserves it all. It’s fun to watch.” What an awesome guy. This reminds me of the time distance runner Kara Goucher podiumed at the NYC marathon and was greeted at the finish by her husband, who was wearing a “Mr. Kara Goucher” shirt.

Nick and JLaw have been going strong since reuniting last summer while filming X-Men: Days of Future Past. Nick doesn’t seem to mind having a girlfriend who is more famous than he is. I have a hunch that he’s much more low-key than she is, and that probably balances out JLaw’s “nitro” ways. They seem well-suited to each other, right? Well the Mail doesn’t feel that way and wrote a really crude article about how Nick is so desperately trying to “hold on to Hollywood’s hottest property.” The Mail acts like Nick’s some major life failure who’s about to get dumped by his A-lister girlfriend.

The tabloids are running in the other direction with this relationship. This week’s issue of OK! (via Jezebel) has printed a ridiculous engagement story. According to OK!, Nick proposed on Christmas, and now the couple is secretly engaged. JLaw even considers the ring “her latest and by far best trophy.” Even better than an Oscar! She wants four kids immediately! This story is SO not true, but it makes for nice fanfiction.

I think they make a nice couple. Do we know why they broke up some time ago?

    • LB says:

There are a lot of rumors but it seems Nick wasn’t into the intense scrutiny associated with an Oscar campaign. Despite media claims that they only got together in the summer though, they were already about to get back together as early as April. So they were broken up about three months covering awards season.

  2. blue marie says:

So cute, I hope they last for a little while and I don’t believe he has a problem with her being more famous, he seems to enjoy it.

  3. serena says:

Man, he’s so hot and cute! I like him as an actor, and truthfully I like him better than Jlaw in that too. Well good for her, he really seems a great boyfriend.

    • V4Real says:

He is a cutie. Even though Jack the Giant Slayer was not a good moive IMO, I still have seen it about four times from start to finish. I liked “Warm Bodies” as well (hangs head in embarrassment).

      • Launicaangelina says:

*hangs head in unison* I liked Warm Bodies too…

      • Tulip Garden says:

(Mouth drops open in astonishment). We’re supposed to be ashamed of liking warm bodies? Screw that, I proudly liked warm bodies…..I even watched it twice!!!!!

      • Lee says:

My 11-year-old wanted “Warm Bodies” for Christmas, and I’m not ashamed – I liked it too! Watched it twice. The movie was good, and he’s adorable.

      • Lindy79 says:

It took me ages to get around to watching it but when I did I really enjoyed it.

Still can’t get over that he’s the same boy who wore Milhouse flood trousers and sang Killing Me Softly in About a Boy.

      • CaribbeanLaura says:

@Lindy79 IKR. He GREW up man. I remember when I first saw him in skins I was like…hold up is that the kid from about a boy??? gasp!

      • Lucy says:

Why would you all be ashamed of loving Warm Bodies? I must admit I initially though it would suck, but it turned out to be a lovely, very witty movie!!!

      • blue marie says:

ha, it would appear you are not alone V4, I liked Warm Bodies as well.

      • V4Real says:

Thanks ladies I feel redeemed. I freaking LOVED Warm Bodies.

    • paranormalgirl says:

I liked Jack the Giant Slayer AND Warm Bodies. Count me in the club, too!!!

  4. gilmore says:

I hear she was actually at Sundance with him, cuties. I buy that he’s cool with her being more successful than him and its refreshing to see.

  5. Hannah says:

He’s gorgeous and a very good actor. And super tall. And English. Top that!

  6. magui says:

couldnt agree more our princess JLaw deserves everything money oscars love

I remember seeing an interview with him on Graham Norton. He is funny and charming. I like him and I dig their relationship. Power to em. Side note, Denzel Washington was on that same Graham Norton episode and told a hilarious story about his mother making him take the centerpiece at an awards show. LOL… mothers

    • Kali says:

I saw that interview too! He came across so well. Although Graham Norton is a fantastic host and makes pretty much anyone/everyone seem awesome.

      • CaribbeanLaura says:

I LOVE Graham Norton. Seriously, he’s amazing and sooooooo funny. Chatty man is pretty hilarious too, tho he can be a bit much sometimes. Have you ever seen the Graham Norton episodes with Martin Freeman!!!! The best.

      • Kali says:

My favourite episode was the one with Adele. She had obviously had a few backstage and everybody was drinking on stage as well. It was the first time I had ever heard her speaking voice and I was just gobsmacked. And then it turn out Adele is totally awesome and Graham was basically giggling for the whole entire episode.

      • CaribbeanLaura says:

Ooooh Yes the Adele one was a fave too. She is so down and so cool. Lol. And I love Graham’s giggles.

      • lunchcoma says:

I wish American talk shows were a little more like Graham Norton’s show. He’s much more amusing, and I vastly prefer seeing celebrities interact with each other to having the host interview them one by one.

      • SonjaMarmeladova says:

Chatty Man is by far my favourite talk show. Alan Carr is just amazing.
Graham is great, too. The Adele episode was awesome, Adele, Jack Whitehall and my favourite, Miranda Hart made a perfect line up.

      • V4Real says:

I just chimed in to say I love Graham Norton. I would trade you our Jay Leno for your Norton anyday.

    • blue marie says:

ha! dang that’s awesome, and something I could see my mom doing, with her voice “there just going to throw it away anyway, and it matches my curtains”

      • CaribbeanLaura says:

I think that he said that’s what his mom said. “they’re just going to throw them away.” LOL

    • Tulip Garden says:

That show was fantastic! Both Denzel and Hoult came across so charming! Didn’t you love the “stare without blinking” contest that they held? I thought Denzel was very cool to partake seeing as how he is a movie stah 🙂

    • Cricket says:

Got to jump on the Norton show bandwagon. My fav episode, aside from Adele, is when Cumberbatch and Pine were on for Star Trek. It was awesome! Graham ran into the audience to see who travelled to be there and if they were Cumberbitches. Benedict ran into the audience to give a kiss to a fan and the Pine copied for his fans. Beyond cute!

  8. Talie says:

I find them interesting coupling simply because she would’ve seemed like the type to date some jock in the NFL, but that she went for this pale British dude adds something extra to her.

  9. Happyhat says:

Oh THAT’S who Nicholas Hoult is! I admit I didn’t know him from his name. Oh…well, I have no comment other than, “Oh right, I recognise that guy from stuff…”

  10. Dingo says:

I like that she is not dating an “old” guy like Bradley Cooper – but someone her own age.

    • Leah says:

And sort of a normal guy: I mean he is cute but he lives in london and lives a pretty low key life.

  11. Nerd Alert says:

He’s so sweet! I like him a lot, and I like them as a couple, too. I just wish he was a better actor. I wish that SO MUCH.

  12. Sam H x says:

He seems like a totally chilled out and sweet guy, who mellows out JLaw’s big personality and I think they compliment each other very well. I really hope these two last, they are adorable together and I also believe he is happy to play the supportive, loving and proud boyfriend to JLaw. I thought he seemed shy when JLaw won her Golden Globe, she kissed him and probably isn’t one for public displays of affection in a public setting.

  13. L says:

Nice to see how the kid from ‘About a Boy’ grew up. (which makes me feel old)

  14. BendyWindy says:

I can’t get over how cute Elle Fanning looks in those pictures. I love her porcelain skin.

  15. Lucy says:

And the Award for Best Boyfriend goes to Tony Stonem!!!

  16. Happy21 says:

I’ve never seen him in anything and think it’s cool JLaw has such a down to earth boyfriend and while I don’t believe the story about them being engaged for even two seconds, I really, really hope they don’t rush into something like marriage. They both still have a lot of living left to do and she seems a little immature for something like marriage.

I just hated typing that last bit. I’m a total JLaw fangirl and sometimes the truth does hurt!

  17. K says:

I think maybe he’s able to be low-key because he’s been well-known in the UK since he was that kid in About A Boy, and then later Tony in Skins, and he knows a lot of very famous Brits from growing up in the industry so isn’t under any illusions, but at the same time he was always just well-known rather than seriously famous himself, so was never big enough for it to drive him nuts. Sort of immunised against what the industry can do to people, basically.

JL is thisclose to being seriously over-exposed, and I think she knows it, and it hurts. She’s coming over as really defensive and anxious now IMO and that’s making her spill over from being zesty, to downright over the top. I would imagine having someone solid and industry-savvy, who has their own career but isn’t afraid to be proud of hers, must be really soothing. And she never has to doubt his motives, because they’ve been together way longer than she’s been A list, despite their ages. I like it in both of them that they appreciate the other, really. And they do seem to adore one another. Given how young they are and how separated by work and geography it’s impressive they’ve made it work this well this long.
