The two people in this post are actually my picks for best and worst dressed of the evening. Surprising how that turns out. To be fair to Lily Allen, her Vivienne Westwood dress wasn’t even “bad”. It was enchanting, gorgeously structured and very much acid-trip couture. The problem is that it was worn by Lily, who had zero reasons for showing up to the BAFTAs in this “LOOK AT ME” ensemble. Technically, she was there to “support” her mom, who was nominated for Best British Film. So Lily wanted to support her mom… by making sure all of the cameras were on her Vivienne Westwood dress. And yes, the hair feathers need to go. Ugh. You know what struck me? This whole look would have been perfect if she was trying to be the biggest LOOK AT ME of the Met Gala. At the BAFTAs? Not so much.
And here’s my favorite look of the night, Naomi Harris in Gucci. I love the color. I love the design. I love the fit. I love the styling. I love how it’s conservative enough for the occasion (the sleeves) and how it has enough sexiness (the deep V, the side-slit) for such a young, beautiful actress. This is the perfect dress for the BAFTAs on someone who deserved to be there.

I loved Lily Allen’s dress. I think she pulled it off very nicely in a sea of boring dark colored dresses. I saw some pics of her later in the evening without the hair feathers and thought she looked great. Maybe she didn’t have a good reason to be there (supporting her mom is a fine reason) but I don’t think it really matters. She looked like she had fun. I’ll give her a pass.

It’s funny to think about how conservatively everyone dresses for the BAFTAs – its supposed to be a high profile event, but its turned into a sea of navy and black dresses. Had this been the Golden Globes that Westwood wouldn’t have felt so ”look at me”. And honestly, I’m surprised at how much I love it. Lily is at least attempting (only occasionally successfully) to move on from her previous, a-hole behavior, so there’s that.
I agree with you on both fronts – Lily’s dress itself is really interesting and the cut and folds of the dress are gorgeous. But I am not so sure how I feel about it on her.
Naomi looks lovely. That silhouette is classic and she looks positively regal.
Lily’s dress screams saloon girl from the wild west to me for some reason. Naomi however, chic and elegant proving once again that less is more.
I don’t like those colors together, but if Lily’s dress were in a different palette I would like it. I don’t like Lily, though. She is an asshole AND her music sucks. I’m not sure what there is to like about her.

I love Lily Allen and I’m not quite sure why she is so disliked? I love the messages she has in a lot of her songs, better than the whole “do what you want with my body” bull ish.
I try not to get uptight about this sort of stuff because otherwise I would give myself an aneurism, but when Lily Allen dressed up her husband’s penis in blackface and then sent a picture of it around the internet as a ‘joke’ (hilarious!)….well, that’s when she entered the category of asshole for me.

I didn’t even know about that. She’s so gross. I can’t stand her music (personally) because she’s such a terrible songwriter, but I’m very picky about lyrics. I feel that if someone doesn’t have the gift of words, why not hire someone who does? They can still be “your” songs if the emotion’s there.
jen- Basically she pulled a Katherine Heigl. She badmouthed people she worked with, was a terrible pain in the ass, and was rumored to have slept with her married producer. Also been accused of racism, etc.
Yeah, I have high tolerance for stunt queen outfits, but I looked at Lily and thought, “Almost…” I.e. it’s almost awesome, but didn’t quite make it.
But Naomi looks awesome! There was no almost about that.
