Kendall & Kylie Jenner share a Marie Claire cover: lovely or overrated?

Kendall Jenner

Kendall and Kylie Jenner both take the cover of the March issue of Marie Claire Mexico. I know some of you are rolling your eyes that the youngest Kardashians couldn’t score a cover in their native country. I resist the urge to pick on these sisters because they can’t choose their family. Nor can they help that they were raised by (all credit to Kaiser) Lucifer’s homegirl. There’s also the simple fact that Kendall has modelled for US Vogue (even if it was merely a “couture selfie” shoot). I don’t know why Kylie is along for the ride in this shoot, but they look good together. They’re the youngest of the Klan, and we shouldn’t throw socks at them (all credit to Rob Kardashian) because they can’t help their familial ties.

With that said, I think 18-year-old Kendall is working this shoot. Kylie is still 16, but she’s not doing too shabby either. The sisters use this opportunity to discuss their different personalities that somehow converge into one. You can tell that Kris has invested in some media training for the sisters (because they made Kris look bad two years ago), but it’s working:

Kendall always wanted to model: “Even as a kid, I remember always looking at my mom’s magazines, I would look up to them and I thought they were so beautiful and they seemed very elegant and cool, it’s just something I really wanted to be.”

Kendall’s personality: “I’m not a social butterfly like Kylie. I’m pretty much the opposite, a little quieter than her.”

Both sisters agree that Kylie was once obsessed with Kendall: “She was obsessed with me. She followed me everywhere,” said Kendall. Kylie added: “I would follow her everywhere she went, we would sleep in the same bed, if she got up in the middle of the night, I got up of the middle of the night. I literally couldn’t leave her side. We even matched everything we wore.”

Kylie doesn’t want to model, is inspired by Kanye: “Honestly, right now I love designing and I want to pursue that career once I turn eighteen, but acting is something I would regret not giving a chance when I´m older, so I would love to try it and see if I like it. Our family, my sisters, my mom, our grandmother and even online in Tumblr. Also, my sister’s boyfriend, Kanye, has really inspired me personally.”

[From Marie Claire]

On a related note, this week’s episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians features Kendall turning 18 years old. The episode contains a scene where Kendall tells Kris that she wants to move out and “be an independent woman.” Radar Online says this was all a Kris-orchestrated ruse for the show: “Kendall actually loves living at home with Kris and her family. In fact, everyone has always joked that Kendall will likely to be the last one to leave the nest. Kylie will move out as soon as she turns 18. It was only a storyline for the show to drum up faux controversy between Bruce and Kris!” Of course. Poor Kendall and Kylie.

    Enough already!!!!

  2. Cleveland Girl says:

Wow. The older one seems like true “model” material. She looks very relaxed and poised in front of the camera. Good for her!

    • QQ says:

…whilst the second one should concentrate on her studies or behind the camera Jenner Pursuits… Cuz…Um No

      • GeorginaSparks says:

Seriously, what is going on in that last photo? Kylie looks like she wants to run and hide under a bed. Or she smelled something terrible. Or someone just told her her dog died. Or all three.

      • Tazina says:

They’re both cute enough and they seem pretty benign. They can’t help the family they were born into and they don’t seem to be delinquents or acting like Lindsay Lohan.

It’s not the style to have a sh*t eating grin on posed shots. So don’t accuse them of looking like mannikins/zombies or whatever. They’re doing what they’re told to do. BTW everyone wants a gap between the thighs. If you rub together there, you’re not going to have much fun in a skirt. How does red and chafed sound to you? I speak from experience.

      • mollie says:

        this. +1

  3. BeckyR says:

Average at best. Without the mother, these two would be in school and getting an education. They are surrounded by sycophants.

    • booboolarue says:

Agreed. They are certainly getting an “education” from mom, but is it in their best interest? And no, I don’t find either one to be particulary model material.

  4. Neffie says:

Stop trying to make ‘fetch’ happen.

  5. Emma - the JP Lover says:

SO overrated. I just don’t understand the allure of this family. Those girls are only were they are because of their family’s infamy. I’m tired of Reality TV ‘celebrities. I wish we could re-wind back to the time just before that very first ‘Survivor’ episode aired and scream NOOOOO! Don’t do it!

Have you ever seen the 1976 film “Network?” We are SO there.

    • ZigZagZoey says:

      Everybody join in….
‘I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!’

However…… I know it’s pathetic, but I still love Survivor!

  6. eliza says:

Annnnnnnnnd what is so unique about these two teenagers that sets them apart from most young and pretty high school girls? NOTHING except a pushy pimp. These girls are Seventeen magazine and Jane material. Not high fashion, in my opinion.

    • HappyMom says:

Oh -and they’re no longer even high school girls since that horrible mother let them drop out of school to be “homeschooled”.

  7. gg says:

Good grief they look like spaced out CGI mannikins here.

  8. Dids says:

The gap between Kendall’s thighs is the stuff of nightmares…

    • John says:

And sadly, that’s what every American teenaged girl aspires to. :/

      • gg says:

Thanks to all the bloody men aided by that a$$hole Nik Richie of The Dirty. I hold that guy solely responsible for lots of anorexic young females.

    • Cheryl says:

That gap thing is truly bizarre. I would not let them publish photos of me if there was this kind of thing going on with my legs.

    • Rayche says:

Lol what? She has a nice healthy body, come on. My thighs don’t touch either and I prefer it- how uncomfortable it’d be if they did.

      • Shijel says:

I’ve had thighs that don’t touch. Ever since I started squatting heavy at the gym, they now touch. It’s not uncomfortable at all. Chill.

    • TrixC says:

I’m sure that’s photoshop – I believe she has a thigh gap, but not that extreme. I wish magazines weren’t allowed to do this.

  9. Tracy says:

Whatever. If the modeling doesn’t catch on, momma will have them do p0rn like their big sister.

  10. BendyWindy says:

I usually side-eye Kendall’s “modeling,” but this shoot actually makes me think she’s got potential. She looks gorgeous, poised, comfortable, and she’s got a more unique beauty than say…Kate Upton, who I just don’t understand at all. There are a million pretty blondes with big boobs…she does nothing for me. Kendall is working it, though. It would be nice to see a Kardashian get famous for actually being talented. Well, if you consider modeling a talent (which I do, I sure couldn’t do it).

Also, while I know that they’re young and many people are tiny and thin when they’re young, if Kendall and Kylie take after Kris at all, they’ll have to work really hard to stay that painfully thin as they age. That always makes me sad for some models.

  11. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Whichever gal is in the pink is the model – the other one looks like she is on heroin.

  12. Lis says:

Personally I think Kendall is hands down the best looking of the whole klan.

    • Vanessa says:

      I agree.

    • Dawn says:

I agree and it is totally because she is NOT part of the Klan but because she is a Jenner and has the Jenner genes shining brightly. However if she keeps pretending to be a Kardashian she may as well hang it up. People are sick of the Klan and their A-moral ways and just want them to all disappear and that includes Kayne Kardashian.

    • Miss Bennet says:

Agree. Kendall has the body type and face for fashion modeling, her sister does not. Kylie needs to find out what she’s good at rather than latching on to Kendall. College would be a great choice for her and set her apart from the rest of her brainless sisters.

  13. John says:

Kylie looks awkward and uncomfortable. Kendall could have a career, but she needs to stop letting the Kard’s cash in on the one of them with an actual ability and separate herself from them, as fast and far as she can.

    • Chrissy says:

I agree. If Kendall really wants to succeed at being something other
than a Kardashian famewhore she will need to totally separate from the ridiculous influence of Kris and the other toxic females in her family. Leave the show Kendall! Move to New York without all the LA baggage/ hangers-on, get real and explore the possibilities. She needs to keep her head down, don’t give interviews or pap strolls or else no one will ever take her seriously.

  14. Nev says:

    amazing pics.

  15. Amy Tennant says:

I hope for the best for them. They can’t help their family and their raising. I have genuine concern (not troll-concern) about their possible lack of education and how that is going to affect them going forward in life. They are both lovely young women.

It kind of irks me a little that people keep calling them “Kardashians.” I know it’s shorthand, and I understand that. I just don’t think it’s fair to their father. We don’t call Nicole Kidman’s daughters with Keith Urban “Cruises.”

    • Dame Snarkweek says:

Ah! The voice of reason! TYSM

    • littlestar says:

I think their lack of education will definitely affect them. In a few years time, when the Kardashian Kurse is a thing of the past, what are they going to do with their lives then? Right now they are coasting on the success of their reality show and their older sister’s “success”. We all know reality fame doesn’t last forever, how will they support themselves once all the reality opportunities have dried up?

  16. bettyrose says:

Wait, so are these girls famous because their mother’s first husband was OJ’s lawyer or because their half sister has a sex tape?

  17. Both of them look stiff in the pictures—awful. If I were a REAL model, I’d be po’d that these two got attention because of their name.

    • Liberty says:

Kendall is better, but they both are perhaps a little more niche magazine or catalogue model than runway or big-circ magazine. I agree that both of them should get an education. To repeat what we’ve said before, what kind of mother abandons her daughters’ brains for cash. Kylie looks so uncomfortable.

    • Franklymydear1 says:

      They have Kim’s vacant eyes

  18. minime says:

not lovely or overrated, just fugly and what?

  19. Monkey Towz says:

    Go. To. School.

  20. emmie_a says:

The tall one is pretty. The shorter one has Teresa Giudice’s hairline.

  21. Side-Eye says:

I don’t care what anyone says-I’m not getting “stunning” or “gorgeous” from either of them. They both look so…average.

    • Allie says:

Exactly. They’re so dead in the eyes too

    • KatJ says:

Same here..if they weren’t on that TV show they would never get anywhere in the modeling world. They are cute but that’s it.They couldn’t even cut it in commercial modeling let alone high fashion.Shame…nepotism is alive and kickin’ in 21st century “land of equality”

  22. Dawn says:

The only way to stop this total nonsense with this family is to stop buying anything that are involved with. Truly, punish the publisher and don’t buy the magaizines. I think that they already look dead in the eyes and I think it is because of PMK. These girls hang out with men much too old for them, going to bars where the Game is performing for example. What type of a mother allows her 16 year old to end up in that situation?

  23. Bella Bella says:

Did the younger one get styled in dresses because she doesn’t have a two foot thigh gap?

  24. Ellie66 says:

The tall one looks like Angie Harmon (Rizzoli & Isles, Law & Order) she has a strong look and could definitely have a career as a model. Prettiest one in the family.
On the other hand…the short one is pretty but she is not model material at all. Looks like her mother.

  25. littlestar says:

So the younger one wants to be a designer but she has no education?! WTF! You don’t drop out of high school if you want to become a designer. Can she sew? Can she sketch or draft? Does she know how to use any type of design software? This actually really pisses me off. There are people who stay in school, learn the SKILLS they need to succeed in a design based career. Yet these girls just expect it to all fall in their laps because of who their family is.

    • Monkey Towz says:

This x a million. These celeb kids could go to any school they wanted, not have to take out student loans and have a job on the side. What an amazing opportunity they have. These flippant statements that “I want to be a ….” w/o anything substantial to back it up is frustrating. What will these girls have to fall back on once their looks, 15 minutes etc. are finally up? Make a sex tape and marry a rich guy? I don’t get it, smh.

      • bettyrose says:

Go to school. Get an MBA. Work in the business side of fashion or television. Sure it’s delayed gratification and the big bucks don’t start rolling in immediately, but at least you’ll have employable skills beyond selling your soul.

    • Mingy says:

I hear ya, Littlestar…no wonder she was “inspired” by Kanye.

  26. TheCountess says:

Wonder how much Lucifer’s Homegirl paid Marie Claire to do this.

  27. stinky says:

    That cover is GORGEOUS.
Let us chill w/ the hate just for a sec…. dang.
Can anyone tell me who they’re wearing in that shot? Mamma want SO very much. GORGEOUS.
In my youth, i was more offended/depressed at seeing ‘youngsters’ wearing clothes that cost THOUSANDS (like these) That was the absurd & ridiculous, unattainable aspect of the fashion mags. Skinny/coltish 14-16 year olds? Not a giant reality stretch (is it?)…
Now fast forward to pro-anorexia websites & nasty bloggers? I dont blame Photoshop or fashion mags. Parents, kids and people need to get their heads together. Period. If it wasnt anorexia, it’d be cutting, huffing, cosmetic surgery or something else… trippin people are gonna reach for something – for me its the booze.

  28. GirlyGirl says:

Nice to know they’re taking up the family “business” of being completely uninteresting.

  29. Nudgie says:

Wow – hard to believe Kendall already has that “I’m a model and I’m dead inside” stare. Unlike her half-sisters who have that “I’ve always been dead inside – can I be a model?” stares.

  30. homegrrrl says:

Teenagers in make-up freak me out. I think of these poor girls starving themselves, thus ruining their growth and brain development. It’s circus-y, grostesque and sad for those of us who understand childhood development.

From a fashion POV it could be artistic, but then again, this photo shoot is what foie gras is to cuisine; horrifying if you associate the image with the process.

  31. Maritza says:

They are both gorgeous girls, I’d say the Jenners are much more atractive than the Kardashians.

  32. Stacey says:

At least kendal works in fashion. Kylie is just a try hard teenager who shouldnt have a platform to speak.

  33. Bread and Circuses says:

They’re both pretty, and they honestly do have what it takes to be models–just not supermodels. They compare well to most runway models and very well to most catalogue models, but they don’t compare well to, for example, the average Victoria Secret angel.

Still a thousand times more gorgeous than me, however. 🙂

  34. pru says:

Ugh – it makes me sad that a child of privilege aspires to model.

  35. Joh says:

As a 60 year old, can I just say everyone under 20 is adorable. Even the oddest looking are by nature, adorable. It is how we perceive each other, young = fertile.
That being said, once that bloom is gone, these two are average looking. Not unattractive, but not traffic stopping either. Average, as in smack in the middle of the attractiveness scale. Make up and stylists and very expensive surroundings and clothes and accessories along with a well known name are what we all see.
As Tallulah Bankhead said: “there’s less to this then meets the eye.”
    Not my cup of blah.

  36. Skye says:

They’re both very pretty, but I really see Kylie having a bigger modeling career IF she wants it. No offense to Kendall, but tall thin pretty girls are a dime a dozen in Model World. She better do something to set herself apart. Kylie, on the other hand…. that is an ARRESTING face. It’s not even that it’s so pretty… She IS pretty, but to quote Queen, beauty and style go kinda smooth after a while. Kylie has a face you’d stare at, even if it’s just to figure out if she’s going to put a fingernail through your eye socket. Sorry, Kanye, but THAT’s the Kardashian who belongs on a Vogue cover.

    • Sachi says:

Kylie reminds me of the women in the 1930s-40s who would take glamor shots with the highlight on their jawlines, eyebrows, and lips. She’s got a more classic look, a striking face…while Kendall is more doll-like with her round features.

Kendall is prettier at first glance because her features are more symmetrical, but Kylie’s eyes and bone structure are gorgeous. These two are the prettiest in their family and it’s not thanks to Dr. Plastic Surgeon.

    • Jane says:

Wow exactly how i see it! Whew thought i wad losing my touch!
Yes kylie is the one!!! Just wait! More mysterious!! the tall one? Boring!! Skinny
Lets just sit and wait! Thanks!

  37. Cotton Candy says:

I have always loved Kendall as a model. She is made for it. Kylie does not have what it takes.

  38. Deedee says:

I just find Kylie Jenner that photogenic, but Kendall i believe has the potential to go into modeling. Their fashion line and teenage book, though. Forget.

  39. mebee says:

Those center parts aren’t doing either of them any favors.
