Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann at ‘OLLA’ screening: lovely or unflattering?

Here are some photos of Tilda Swinton at last night’s NYC screening of Only Lovers Left Alive (bonus photo of Jonny Lee Miller, who attended the screening). I’m also including a couple of photos of Tilda out and about in NYC with her “sweetheart” Sandro Kopp. Tilda has been doing a lot of press for OLLA, and she was in Austin for SXSW a few days ago, where she did tons of interviews which are coming out now. You can read her NYT interview here – it’s Classic Tilda, but she’s asked about the Twitter account @NotTildaSwinton, which she says is “completely brilliant, and I’ve been in touch with those guys. Well, it’s, I don’t know what to say; I’m all for myths. Long live myths. They’re protective.” When she sat down with Variety, she told her publicist “please go away” within a few minutes, because she’s TILDA. You cannot muzzle her. Ever. Here are some highlights from the Variety piece:

How she chooses her projects: “I’m always finding myself in the arts, however I do find myself apologizing for not being a proper actor. It’s strange, I apologize for not feeling like a professional, even though I’ve done many films over the past 30 years. I never intended to be involved in the film industry and still do feel that, with the exception of a couple of brief skirmishes with the film industry.”

Those skirmishes: “There were two skirmishes and they are probably what people know me best for. It’s a moment in a Disney film and a moment in a film which received many prizes that are more famous than the film. There’s a distortion in the perception that I was heading that way. I was blown off course with both of those — well, not blown off course — they were detours for me, and they are not where I live.”

She has no strategy: “I’m not strategizing. Films take such a long time to make, so if I’m saying now that I must play a brain surgeon and I start the project now, if it happens in five years and then shoot it, I’m going to have to talk about it another two years. I’m way too lazy for that. I just look at my curiosities at the moment.”

[From Variety]

I like that she comes out and says that she’s too lazy to really start building a film from the ground up. She is (and always has been) a working actress who just takes jobs as they come. It’s refreshing in a field where so many actresses are “branding” themselves and forming production companies so they can get “more involved” in the process. I don’t think Tilda is judging that – she’s just saying she’s not into that. And she doesn’t need to be.

PS… I love the way Sandro looks at her.

  3. Trillion says:

Sandro is extra sexy for loving her. Just like Viggo is extra sexy for having been married to Exene. Men who love strange, intelligent women are ze best.

  4. Miss Jupitero says:

I know someone who knows Sandro in the art world– he’s apparently an absolute darling of a person.

He has to be if Tilda stays with him so long. She’s great and intelligent, I bet she could have dozens of others if he would be a douche.

But still – good for her and good for him. Love those two!

  5. SnarkGirl says:

I adore that blue suit! I would wear it with a white or pale blue shirt though, not black, but that’s just my personal tastes. I think she looks incredible!

  6. Isadora says:

She looks wonderful, as always. And I do like her with her as a blonde so much better than as a redhead, plus the haircut is really great too.

I think she’s really a role model, inside and out.

  7. Louie says:

Anyone know the designer of the coat she’s wearing out & about? Looks a bit like a Victoria Beckham one….NOOO! I’ll die a little inside if Tilda starts wearing that vapid woman’s clothes.

  8. Maggie says:

They are unique looking……I’m trying to be positive.

Legend SWINTON is always a delight. She comes across as very smart and as someone who does not take things to seriously. That suit is super stylish and chic yet effortless.
