Kristen Bell in J. Mendel at the Veronica Mars premiere: overdone or classy?

'Veronica Mars' Los Angeles Premiere
These are photos of Kristen Bell in a light pink strapless J. Mendel gown at the LA premiere of her film, Veronica Mars, last night. Bell’s fashion this year has been somewhat of a mixed bag. She has a penchant for too-severe eye makeup, so at least she’s toned it down somewhat, but I do think this dress is too much for a premiere. It’s more of an awards season dress. Still she looks great in it, I love the texture on the fabric and I do like her styling.

Bell has been making the talkshow circuit to promote the film. She was on Jimmy Fallon earlier this week, where she talked about her Frozen character, Anna. She said she wanted to make Anna awkward and that producers “let me do that.” Bell added “I hope that weird little girls feel like they can have someone they can relate to. That was the goal” She also said that she sings to her one year-old baby daughter, Lincoln, but that she doesn’t let her watch TV because “she’s little and their brains get jumbled.

On Live with Kelly and Michael, Bell told a story about how her Cavalli Oscar gown was so tight that she wasn’t able to go to the bathroom normally and had to pee in a Mason jar. It’s kind of TMI, but it got her some headlines so I understand why she shared that detail. I doubt she had a problem in this dress.

The Veronica Mars movie is getting positive reviews, with most critics saying it’s more for fans than people who aren’t familiar with the series. That makes sense considering that it was fan-funded through kickstarter. In a new Huffpo interview, Bell explained the appeal of her character, and of women leads in general. “she’s this interesting paradox of vulnerable and confident. And I think a lot of women are. For me as a viewer, it’s inherently more interesting to watch a female because of the layers she possesses. I’m just glad that other audience members feel the same.”

Here are photos of Bell outside a Sirius interview on Tuesday. She’s wearing Elizabeth and James. I really like this outfit and think it would have been more suited for her premiere look.

Check out her coat game, gorgeous.

Oh and Bell’s dress blew up at one point at the premiere! She was wearing nude-colored underwear and was clearly embarrassed about it.

Does the pink dress look a bit too long? It sort of gives the impression that it’s falling off or too large….

She usually looks very pulled together and the black & white ensemble looks good. I loved VMars back in the day.

The dress fits her nicely, but that’s not her color.

Of course that dress blew open. At least she was wearing underwear. But I’m a little weary of these “accidents.”

I think the gown would’ve looked better on a brunette and some one a bit taller, although they could’ve hemmed it a bit.

Although, it would suit her if it was a different color, maybe a sky blue??

I never watched Victoria mars but I do know the fans did pay for the movie. I don’t hate the dress. The color seems a little to girlish forme tthough.

I agree with harpreet above. Too long and needs to be a different colour. Tweak it to cocktail length and have it in an amazing mid-tone or deep colour (maybe purple, green or a turquoise?).

Plus it’s just WAY too much for a movie premiere like that. That is really a Golden Globes dress.

She looks amazing, but her hair were too severe! She needed to do something like fluffy curls. Anyway, as a Veronica Mars fan myself, I can’t wait to see the movie!

i want those shoes worn with the pink dress!

Much better makeup, and I like the top half of the dress but the high slit on the skirt is too much for me. Good thing it wasn’t a NY premiere, it got crazy windy in the NE last night and the dress would have probably blown off completely!
I’m really glad to hear reviews that the film is geared for the existing fans.

I don’ t like the dress nor her hair. The cut is horrendous and doesn’ t flatter her figure at all, and I hate that shade of pink with a fiery passion. That said, I don’ t think it’ s more suitable for ceremony awards than premieres per se, it’ s just that for something like veronica mars… it feels like a try hard dress. This is a kickstarter funded movie for a relatively small group of people and based on a tv show, not the premiere of a movie Ingmar Bergman, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock and Akira Kurosawa came back from the land of the dead to do!

I want her earrings! (the ones in the first picture)

I’ve seen bath towels with more fit and elegance to them.

I think that color pink is lovely on her–the cut of the dress seems a bit too long. Like she was going for dramatic–which, fine–but she is tiny and petite so long dresses are not always the best option. (I say this as a petite girl myself–it can be so frustrating–I will never wear a maxi-dress no matter how cute I think they are) 🙂

I also think she is super articulate, and I like what she says about women and female characters. I wasn’t a Veronica Mars fangirl initially and only got into the show after it went off the air, but it’s pretty great.

I love Kristen Bell and was disappointed when VM got cancelled. Anyone have any details where her coat is from?
