Emma Watson nervous about first on-screen kiss with Rupert Grint

Aw, young love. Or young love as portrayed by teenagers in a film about wizards and growing up. The first whiff of ginger heart-throb-in-training Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) was enough to bring the awkward pre-teen out in me. Now imagine Emma Watson’s dilemma – she’s scheduled to have a screen kiss with Ron for the next installment of Harry Potter (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows).

The two actors have known each other for eight years of filming, so it makes sense that they’ve probably got a relationship that borders on brother-sister, just to make the whole thing even more uncomfortable. Emma claims that she’s never had to kiss someone for a job before, and that she asked her friend Daniel Radcliffe for advice. Radcliffe told her that after the first few takes, kissing gets boring. Interesting, Daniel…maybe it’s the girl? The Daily Telegraph has more:

Emma Watson dreads her first on screen kiss with Rupert Grint -when the stars of Harry Potter begin filming this month expect some awkward on set tension between Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.

…[B]oth actors are already panicking about their first screen kiss between their characters Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Speaking at the Bafta ceremony Watson, 18, tells me that she is terrified of pairing up with her 20 year-old co-star of eight years, despite the best efforts of Daniel Radcliffe, 19, to reassure her.

“Well I’ve never had to do it before so I can’t say I have any techniques,” she says. “I’ve never had to kiss anyone on screen so it is all new to me.”

“Of course I am nervous about it. But, apparently it gets quite boring after a couple of takes, that’s what Dan said to me anyway.”

Meanwhile, off screen Watson was not short of male attention at the Grey Goose afterparty at the Grosvenor House Hotel and spent much of the evening in the company of Jamie Dornan, a model who used to date Keira Knightley.

Mandrake revealed last month that Grint is also concerned about the impending kiss despite doing a graphic nude scene in his recent film Cherrybomb.

“As I’ve known Emma for so long, I reckon it will be 10 times worse,” he said.

“I really love the seventh book, but there is no way it will be tame with the Hermione stuff.”

The actor claimed he fills in crosswords to ease the awkwardness between takes and will bring “a stack of crosswords” to the Harry Potter set.

From The Daily Telegraph

I can’t remember who said it, but I remember a very famous actress once complaining that for her first screen kiss, no one told her not to slip the actor your tongue. Sounds like practical advice for Emma and for Rupert. Rupert sounds really nervous too – think there’s something else going on? Do they have little crushes on each other? And does anyone else think it’s really cute that Emma asked Radcliffe for help with her problem? I wonder if they’re really close in real life.

This whole thing is adorable. The gossip is that they used to be an item, she and Radcliffe. Don’t know why that fell by the wayside…

  2. vdantev says:

So darn cute !! ‘Dread’ I think is a bit too strong a term for the moment at hand.

  3. Ash says:

ha, that’s pretty cute. I’m sure once they do it, it won’t be that bad. Then again, what do I know.

  4. Tess says:

Radcliffe strikes me as a tad on the Nancy-Boy side of town. If she’s got a brother/sister relationship with one of those guys, I bet it’s old Harry.

Now Rupert, on the other hand…

  5. Ana says:

I want to say it was Eliza Dushku. Because she had to kiss the character Angel and his fake vampire teeth were poking her. When she complained everyone was like wtf?

  6. Dorothy says:

    LOVED Angel!

I just really like that the Harry Potter kids seem so normal!

  7. Em says:

they are adorable and I am sure theyll figure it all out…lol cant wait to see the new movie!

  8. Zoe says:

I’m still holding out for the Dan Radcliffe/Emma Watson relationship about five years down the road. They are both so smart and so sweet.

Rupert is a cutie too, just on a different level. Maybe opposites do attract though and the sparks will fly?

Wish more young actors were like these three.

  9. Zoe says:

Rob Pattison was also in one of the movies and was a total sweetie, hmmmm, maybe he and Emma’ll hook up?

*covers face in embarrassment for caring and sloughs away*

My 19 year old, totally adorable son, wants to date Emma Watson. If you have connections let me know. 😉

God, she grew up gorgeous. That dress is to die.

I hope she is a better kisser than she is an actress! HUGE personal fan, though….I actually got to meet these kids and spend the day on set. She is a very impressive young woman. The three of them are tight in a funny way. They do not seem to be bound by conventional friendship, but rather by the intense, common shared experience of “growing up Potter” that no one else could possibly understand.
