I don’t think Miley Cyrus was trying to be racist in this photo. I think she and her friends were just joking around. On the other hand, its amazing the amount of white people that get upset when someone points out possible racial connotations that white people commit. My question is why do people crap on Asian people so much? Its seems they are such targets of hatred without any remorse. Why?

Oh- wanted to add that the kid of Asian descent in the picture appears to be trying to make his eyes appear large and round – Western, in fact – so probably this was just a goofy joke. Like I said, parents need to take away the camera.

If that kid had just used his fingers to make his eyes rounder, the joke would be more apparent. Dumbass.

Baho, we all have different experiences and I guess then, that I should count myself lucky that I didn’t have to hear those songs (I heard other things, but not the songs) Otherwise, I would’ve ended up in detention a lot more than I already did. (So then, on second thought, maybe those who may have said it around me should consider THEMSELVES lucky. lol. I throw a mean right hook…)

Anyway. Point being is, I think it’s peculiar that people keep tossing her age like it justifies things. I mean, she’s “mature” and “old enough” to date a 21 year old. Which is by many people’s standards, the age of Adulthood.

Meh. Agree to disagree and let’s move onto another post. lol. She apologized, and it seems sincere enough.

I heard the song a lot. I grew up as a visible minority in small-town white Ontario. I heard all manner of slurs as a child growing up and so maybe that’s why I have a thick skin about it. I’m sorry if it comes across as being callous to a degree because that’s not what I feel. “Sticks and stones” was my mantra, absolutely.

At the end of the day, she can’t help how she was raised and, to a degree, this episode says more about her parents and her people than it does about her. She’s a hick. However, she’s 16 and I agree certainly old enough to know better but she’s extremely immature and I’m sure, technically by definition, a moron.

She has no place on the world stage, that much is evident. Cosmopolitan she ain’t.

Baho, as a kid, yes, you heard those songs. But that was when you were in elementary school. She’s 16 and should know better. Every damn pictures she’s in gets posted somewhere, you’d think she’d learn.

Love that God has a plan for her. I’d love some of God’s time management tips. I have to schedule one presentation today and I keep forgetting things. I couldn’t imagine trying to have a plan for billions of people.

Baholicious, it was blown out of proportion only after she made the stupid mistake of insisting that it wasn’t her fault that people were offended. It was her reaction, not her initial mistake that caused the real problems. What’s wrong with an Asian group initially trying to inform her and everyone that this should be avoided in the future?

And this being mentioned on a few gossip sites hardly qualifies it as “blown out of proportion.” I’m glad she was put under pressure to face it. There are a lot of kids who will see this, and why on earth would you let them thinking that you can do something like that and not face some consequences or let the Asian kids see that it’s okay when someone makes fun of them? This situation would’ve been much bigger if she did something to offend, say, the black community instead.

@Baho: Yes. That IS offensive. And that “little song” is perpetuated by racist notions. And I never sang that song, and thank god, never had to deal with a person who would sing that song around me.
