Sean Penn went in for a kiss after lunch with Adele Exarchopoulos in Paris

Scandal! I’ve actually been wondering if the bloom is off the rose for Sean Penn and Charlize Theron. It’s been about three months. Has the dong haze subsided and has Charlize finally realized that she’s been banging a guy whose face looks like a baked ham? I don’t know. Charlize was in Miami last week for a photoshoot with Mario Testino (perhaps for Vogue?) but Charlize is back in LA now. Charlize brought her son Jackson to Miami, and he returned to LA with her and they went to a kid’s birthday party over the weekend.

At the same time, Sean Penn was in Paris… with 20-year-old Blue Is the Warmest Color star Adele Exarchopoulos. They had some kind of lunch meeting or perhaps just lunch. And paparazzi got photos of them kissing goodbye. It is the French way, I suppose. Double-cheek kiss, although the photos make it look like it happened in slow-motion, and Sean Penn was really going in for the kill. Imagine being a young, up-and-coming French actress and seeing Angry McHamFace coming at you for a kiss. Sacré bleu!

So, is this anything? Probably not. Adele seems like a smart girl, although I guess we were saying that about Charlize not so long ago. I doubt Sean and Adele are in the midst of some kind of torrid affair. But! I am still wondering if the Dong Haze ™ has been lifted. What will happen if and when Charlize and Sean are over?

PS… I love Adele’s sensible sneakers-with-business-attire look. Working Girl Realness!

  1. don't kill me i'm french says:

Kiss on the cheeks is our way to say good bye

    • V4Real says:

That’s how a lot of people say goodbye and hello, where’s the scandal?

    • Geekychick says:

FFS, they kissed on the cheek. Where’s the story? What is strange here?

Sometimes, judging by the tabloid and gossip sites, it really seems like American public is stuck in 12th century. “He went for a kiss in the cheek!”; “She kissed someone while her children were around!”; “Her cleavage is showing, oh the innocent children!!!”(because breasts are traumatic?IDK); “Breastfeeding in public!Burn the witch!!!”-PEAR CLUTCHING commences.
I really don’t get it, and I think (hope so) that the majority of people in the USA are not like that.

  2. Tiffany says:

So you guys trademarked Dong Haze. Smart. 🙂

  3. Chloeee says:

Yawn. Waiting for this coupling to end. Re: the shoes that is some I live in Paris and walk everywhere realness for sure.

  4. bns says:

I love her. Blue is the Warmest Color is an amazing film and her performance really moved me.

    • Nick says:

Yes. Her and Lea were fantastic. I’ve seen it three times and loved it more each viewing.

  5. lucy2 says:

Angry McHamFace. OMG I love this.

  6. Sullivan says:

Ewww. Can you imagine that orange, leathery face getting THAT close? Even if you closed your eyes there would be no escaping his breath, which must smell of anger and cigarettes. I cannot unsee the photo of him puckering-up and going-in for a kiss.

  7. Sam says:

Can I just note that she is wearing pantyhose and sneakers? She has the classic American “I’m coming home from work and my feet hurt” look going. I’m not sure if that counts as the greater scandal in France.

    • Em' says:

Yeah, I was thinking that I would never ever wear those kind of sneakers except for sport.
And i’m all for comfy shoes… just not those.
I am ready to strip her of her French citizenship.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I know, I thought all chic French women scorned Americans for wearing sneakers with work clothes?

    • Shopperetta says:

      Let the river run!

    • fleur says:

do you happen to know that ever since Karl Lagerfeld put sneakers on his lastest collection for Chanel, sneakers with pretty much everything is “in”??? He even made Cara D wear a pair with a wedding dress

      • DahliaDee says:

And to think Lily Allen wore them way back in 2006 in most of her videos and appearances.

  8. RobN says:

The kiss means nothing, however you can’t say the same for the touching his hair thing. May not show interest on his part, but it shows interest on hers.

    • Tatjana says:

I don’t think she was touching his hair. Her arm was placed in an awkward angle in the moment the photo was taken.

  9. magpie says:

I think she’s still dating Jérémie Laheurte who was in the movie with her.

  10. mickey says:

His face on the kiss-approach… worried? scared? constipated? bothersome contacts? And is she slicking his hair back?

Please, someone more creative than me: type up some dialogue for this parting!

  11. Amanda says:

This means absolutely nothing. That’s how people say hello and goodbye in many latin/mediterranean countries. Means less than zero. Nothing. Non-story here.

  12. Hiddles forever says:

This man creeps me out. How actresses can even stare at his face is beyond my logic and comprehension…. Without even taking into account is an ex batterer… Totally baffled….

  13. dahlianoir says:

    Poor girl looks miserable.

  14. K says:

Many of the recent NYmag street style shots, and some runway pics, show sneakers of all sorts.

  15. lenje says:

I thought Europeans kiss 3 times on cheeks? (2 times is more Asian, I think)

    • Hiddles forever says:

Nope. British once, Italian/French/Spanish/German/Dutch twice… Who are the ones kissing three times? Russians?

      • Anna says:

4 times in Paris, it drives me crazy every time I travel there. Imagine meeting friends of freinds and everybody kisses everybody on the cheek, men/women/all permutations, freaking 4 times!!

      • Tatjana says:

For some strange reason, in my hometown people kiss 4 times when wishing happy birthday ( I haven’t encountered that anywhere else in Croatia). Imagine coming to school on your birthday and having 30+ people kiss you 4 times 😀

    • Tatjana says:

      We kiss 2 times.
The only ones I know that kiss 3 times are Serbs. Maybe it’s an Orthodox thing?

I find it weirder that Americans hug people they see for the first time, like Shailene hugs journalists.

  16. Marianne says:

I think him and Charlize are still together. Sean probably has seen Blue is the Warmest Color and wants to work with Adele. Invited her for lunch to talk.

  17. Bloup says:

This is a non-story. Adèle is dating jeremie laheurte (her bf in blue is the warmest color) and has been gushing over him at every possible occasion she had during awards. Sean and she are just saying goodbye the way we, frenchies, say goodbye. Le kiss on cheeks.

  18. Kiddo says:

Looks of pain in both faces. I have no idea how to interpret that, nor should I want to.

  19. joan says:

Charlize must know that photos can be misleading, so she may understand.

But the visual impact of seeing your man hovering [hoovering?] over a young girl, actually seeing him with her, is way more powerful than just knowing he’s out with someone. It COULD be the shock to wake her up.

    Wouldn’t that be nice?

    • hushgush says:

Right? I think poor Charlize is still believing all the lies this d-bag has told her to trap her in his game. And she, being a single mother, probably starting to think about the fact that her son won’t have a father figure, has been naive enough to let this looser get close to her son.

  20. Amy says:

This is how the French shake hands pretty much. This is a non-story. Not everyone shakes hands like us Americans (in fact I wish we’d stop shaking hands because I hate touching people’s hands when I just met them 5 seconds ago).

    • Megs283 says:

So funny how everyone feels differently! I haaaaate kissing hello. Hate it. I always dodge my coworker so she can’t go in for a kiss. Then again, I also hand sanitize often, so I’m not a big fan of hand shaking, either. Whatever happened to the friendly wave…?
