Orlando Bloom got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: would you hit it?

wenn21236428

Here are some photos of Orlando Bloom, receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Some of his friends were in attendance, and Orlando’s son Flynn also joined his dad. Flynn is SO CUTE. Seriously, I’m not even into babies/toddlers, but Flynn has a beautiful face – he’s a really combination of his parents. I used to see mostly Orlando in Flynn, but nowadays I see some Miranda Kerr too. And here’s my brain-fart moment: I was looking through the photo set and I was like, “Why in the world is Jerry Bruckheimer there?” Derp, Bruckheimer produced all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Orly’s hair has grown long, hasn’t it? This is the longest he’s worn it in a while. Now, I’ve never been an Orlyloonie, although I am friends with some Orlyloonies and they are super-devoted. I have to think that Orlando’s newly-single status agrees with him – the longer hair combined with a good suit combined with a good shave. It’s working. He’s still pretty far down on my Top Hotties List, but he’s improving.

I always think it’s nice when a foreign actor gets their star on the Walk of Fame. They often seem so moved, like the star is a sign that Hollywood has really embraced them. Orlando did an interview with Variety ahead of this Walk of Fame ceremony where he discussed his career and what he’s learned. My takeaway is that he’s tired of doing the big, bloated special-effects-heavy movies but he doesn’t know where else he fits in the movie industry and the movie industry doesn’t know where he fits either. You can read the piece here.

If Orlando wants my career advice, I would suggest that he turn to television in a big way. Not network TV, per se, but something offbeat on cable, or even Showtime or HBO (at this point, HBO is more prestigious than most film studios). He doesn’t even have to sign on to a show – but he could do a miniseries or a TV movie or something. Michael Sheen is doing Masters of Sex, you know? (And Sheen is killing it.) And I keep seeing ads for Jamie Bell in a new American Revolution miniseries on A&E. There’s also Jared Harris on Mad Men, Tom Mison on Sleepy Hollow, Andrew Lincoln on Walking Dead and Jonny Lee Miller on Elementary. My point is that British actors are getting lots of work in Hollywood, but it’s mostly TV work. Orly should ride that wave.

  1. Anne says:

Kate Bosworth and Miranda Kerr sucked the hotness out of him. Sorry.

    • Leah says:

The hair is not helping. I think he would look hotter if he cut his hair.

      • Ladybird83 says:

I agree. The hair is horrible but I find him more attractive now than when he was young. He looks more like a man now.

      • BW says:

I’d only hit it if he was wearing the Legolas wig. And Lucius Malfoy was watching. Dammit, what’s with those platinum blonds?

      • deliwich says:

Never got the attraction with this guy. To me he’s just blah. Not very masculine in vibe or presentation. Maybe it’s the thin lips and recessed mouth area with tiny teeth. For many of the same reasons, I also never got the Colin Firth hysteria. I was always scratching my head going, ‘Who ARE these women who want them some Colin Firth…why can’t I see what you’re seeing?!’

      • Anne says:

I’m with you, Deliwich, Colin Firth seems so plain to me.

    • PunkyMomma says:

He is looking a bit worn. Sad.

      • Anna-fo-Fanna says:

I kept thinking that, too, but after seeing him on The Colbert Report, I realized he just doesn’t phograph well anymore. On screen, he still looks very good. Mmm, veeerrry good. Sorry, what was I saying?

    • Hiddles forever says:

      @Anne

      Ditto!! +one million….

    • Luca26 says:

I don’t think anyone ‘sucked the hotness out’. He was just too pretty and pretty doesn’t age well. There has never been any character or edginess to his looks,
      Flynn has gotten so big.

      • Hope says:

I think if he gained a few pounds it would help. Skinny and aging don’t mix well particularly in the face

    • MsGoblin says:

Never understood his appeal. Additionally, stars on the HWofF should be awarded to those with at least 20 years in the biz.

Did I read somewhere that you could practically purchase a star?

    • Zbornak Syndrome says:

He is not aging very well is he? Usually nature is kind to men when they age.

    • JudyK says:

When I first saw the photo, I thought it was an old pic of Dr. Oz, whom I canNOT stand and whom I also cannot stand to LOOK at.

    • Audrey says:

He’s never done it for me.

      But I’d adopt Flynn!!!!

    • Nya says:

I always find it gross when people say a woman “sucked the hotness” out of a man. No. He just aged badly and didn’t take care of himself. The end. It has NOTHING to do with the women.

  2. Leah says:

I hope he gets some work, but all the actors you mentioned are vastly superior. Its not just about being british. Michael sheen is considered the best stage actor of his generation here in england.

  3. Eleanor Zissou says:

He seems like a nice guy. That’s all I have.

How many foreign actors that are not British or French have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame? Does anybody know?

    • Tatjana says:

      Are there any even?

    • Happyhat says:

      I’m going to find out!!

Edit: Oh God there’s quite a few people…may take a while! (Plus I don’t know who half of these people are…)

EDIT 2: The Beatles have a star.

      Plus the Bee Gees (Australian)
      Louis Lumiere (France)
      Sophia Loren (Italy)
      Cate Blanchett (Australian)
      David Bowie (UK)

There you go – must be plenty more!

EDIT 3: Wait, I just read as not British or French…..my bad! There’s Australian and Italian…

Someone called Raymond Massey is from Canada…

      Oh, Frank Capra is Italy

Someone called Ricardo Montalban is from Mexico
      Fred Zinnemann – Austria
      Adolph Zukor – Hungary
      Hans Zimmer – Germany

Ok, I’ll stop now… I also just read you said actors… I’m willing to bet…3?!

      • Eleanor Zissou says:

I was wondering if there are any actors or actresses with stars who aren’t from an English speaking country, or countries with strong cinematographies like France.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Someone called Raymond Massey? Massey had quite a film career and was in many big television shows in the 1960s. Someone called Ricardo Montalban? The original Kahn as in Star Trek’s Wrath of Kahn.

  4. Kiddo says:

That cute little kid is like, “Hey, hey, you’re killing me here. Stop with the squeezing”.

  5. cheesecake says:

    Flynn is adorable.
In other news, would I hit it? NO comes to mind, I for one don’t get turned on by “performance raters” *side eye to Miranda Kerr*

  6. I can’t WAIT until Revolution comes on…I love the idea of that kind of show.

Eh, I never thought of Orly as anything other than a pretty face–I can’t even say he was the #1 crush for me, during Pirates, because Johnny was in the movie. But I hope he gets some work….he’s not outright terrible, he’s just kinda bland for me.

Am I a terrible person for wanting him to be way more successful in the future, so that he can (metaphorically) rub it in Miranda’s face, while she’s cozying up to that fugly billionaire? I hope not. I’m wondering if she got the implants for him.

Any Aussie girls here? Anyone know any good Australian gossip about Packer–beyond the fact that his entire family (male) can’t keep it in their pants?

    • Erinn says:

I never was on the Orly train during Pirates. I didn’t like the character.

I hate to say but the first time I saw LOTR I hated it. Rewatched them all a year ago and looooved it; and Orlando’s prancing. Somewhere between middle school and now I’ve developed a crush on the guy.

    • Penny says:

He was/is a Scientologist (pretty sure he left the cult around 2008 but not 100%), big gambler…basically just very bland though. Very much under the shadow of his late father, who was a huge personality. Compared to his father and people like Gina Rinehart he’s relatively inoffensive, pretty private, doesn’t do much press. His big scandals have been about poor business decisions.

My only juicy piece of gossip is that he was banging Mia Freedman when she worked for Channel 9, but that’s not interesting if you don’t know who she is, which no one outside of Australia would.

I’m not sure he’s dating Miranda. He likes to hang out with celebs and cultivate relationships, he has tons of seemingly random connections with lots of famous people. I think Miranda would be a little too successful for him. I know people here don’t like her, but whatever you think of her personal life or her modelling, Miranda’s done quite well for herself, has her own millions, already has her own business…he’d usually go for someone who was not on that level.

    • Secret Squirrel says:

      *waves at VC*

Nope, no Packer gossip for you other than he is pretty high up the food chain with scientology (Tom C is a close friend) and IMO he pretty much only knows how to run casinos. He also had a stomach banding op to lose weight recently (which was probably a good thing for his health’s sake). He was married to another famewhore (again, IMO) who was clever enough to produce a couple of kids thereby securing her financial future.

If there is something attractive about him besides his bank balance, this Aussie girl isn’t seeing it. Miranda can have him all to herself!!

      • Bridget says:

Packer supposedly isn’t into $cientology anymore.

I just remember an 8-9 month pregnant Katie Holmes having to go to Packer the elder’s funeral and people freaking out that she made a trans-Pacific flight that far into pregnancy.

  7. Secret Squirrel says:

These stars on the walk of fame, you buy them rather than earn them right?? I mean, Orlando has been in some popular movies, but a megastar worthy of “walk of fame” fame is a bit of a push in my opinion.

Aaaaaaaand there are others on that walk of fame that really are head scratchers as to how they ever were considered famous enough for permanent recognition against the massive stars of days gone by. Seems these days being in one big movie is enough to qualify.

    • Loopy says:

Thats what i was thinking, they are virtually bought, but atleast in the 90’s and prior it was real stars who got then. I hope Kim K never receives one that will be the catalyst of me giving up on society lol first Oprah, then Vogue smh

    • Mia4S says:

Yes they’re bought. It’s set up as a process where that’s not made blatant but really if you have someone (or a fan club) willing to pay and you’re not completely distasteful (i.e. a reality star) you get one. The first star I saw when I visited the walk? Ryan Seacrest.

He seems nice but yes the truth is that like so much of Hollywood it’s a phony honour.

    • GiGi says:

You have to apply (or someone has to apply for you) but the application must include a letter from the potential recipient as well. The applications do go to committee so,, no, not just anyone can get a star. (I’m assuming this is why there are no Kardashians on the walk.) Then you do have to pay $30,000 if you’re selected.

    • Adrien says:

He was always the secondary lead in those blockbuster movies ,”Pirates, LoTR, Troy”. He was never the star.

  8. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

He’s more pretty than sexy to me. I envision us fighting for mirror space while we blow out our hair. Nah.

    • PunkyMomma says:

^This. If your going to hog the mirror, get outta my house.

    • cheesecake says:

      I picture this:
*shrieks of terror coming from the bathroom*
      GoodNames: What’s wrong honey??
Orlando: Where’s my moisturiser?? Where is it??
GoodNames: Ummm *ruffling around* don’t worry, we’ll find it!!
Orlando: Uuuugh!! I knew it!! I just bloody knew it!! Tell me, darling, do you have an issue with me looking better than you?? Huh??? I’ve had enough of your jealousy!!

      What a blissful domestic life!!

  9. InvaderTak says:

OMG FLynn! He’s so cute. Yes, he is pretty much my only DILF crush.

  10. Lotta says:

Yes, yes, yes, I would! He looks sexier then ever, infact he never did it for me before but finally he is becomming a real man.

  11. Lilacflowers says:

Yes, I would hit it but only once and he would have to leave immediately.

  12. Tig says:

I think this hair ages him- and he’s young! He sported the same hair in R&J and it did him no favors there either.

I like him as an actor, and TV is not a bad idea for him.

OT- watched “Lost in Austen”- super cute- but how much weight has Tom M lost from then til SH? Seriously, I couldn’t believe it was the same guy.

  13. Quinn says:

If he doesn’t mind wearing his Legolas costume, I’m in!

  14. Penny says:

He’s not a particularly good actor and he doesn’t have much presence either, so I don’t really see him getting any good roles at this point. His prettiness was his only real selling point. He’d be fine in some mediocre network show but he doesn’t have the chops to front a HBO show or anything. Michael Sheen is in a totally different league, one of the best actors of his generation. Orly’s just the pretty boy who was lucky enough to land support roles in two huge franchises.

    • 'p'enny says:

I think that is the problem, I totally agree he isn’t good enough, America’s best of TV i.e HBO is sweeping up UK’s cream of the crop at the moment -their latest steel being Matthew Rhys [yummy]. Orlando seems a rubbish theatre actor too. I believe his Romeo and Juliet on Broadway died. But, I like Orlando, and he has a fan following. I think he can work on the acting, get a coach or take a class or something. I believe Matthew Mconoughty [what ever his last name is spelt like] took acting lessons and a hired an acting coach to break out of romantic comedies and it has done him a world of good, his awful acting in Safari to his latest Oscar wonder is a real turn around.

Either that he can get a role in Agents of Shield, Arrow or Once Upon a Time or some other dire American cult programme that is mediocre, but he will have a sympathetic audience for.

      • Penny says:

McConaughey was always a good actor though. He did some good work when he was younger but then he realized he could make a lot of money phoning it in in crappy films. But he always had potential, people just forgot about it after a while.

Orlando’s never really shown any potential, any range. The closest he’s come was probably his cameo in Extra’s, which was quite amusing, but still one of the least memorable cameo’s. I think he’d be fine in things like Once Upon A Time or something like Hart of Dixie…one of those shows you forget exists, that doesn’t ask a lot of it’s actors.

      • Lou says:

I always found his cameo in Extras to be one of the top ten! I thought he was great in that, which is weird because I normally think his comic timing is awful.

  15. Kali says:

I can appreciate WHY people think he’s good looking. My general rule for guys has always been never go for men who look like they have a better skin care/hair styling routine than I do (Cumberbatch and Hiddleston fall under the “U.K accent/panty dropper of a voice” exception to this rule for me). For the most part, that rule has served me pretty well 🙂

  16. Hazel says:

    Only if he’s Legolas. Non-negotiable.

  17. Skins says:

I guess they are giving out these stars pretty cheaply nowadays. Orlando Bloom? Really?

  18. Tiffany says:

Yes I would. And I would allow him to walk out my front door with pride. You’re welcome Orly 😉

  19. AlmondJoy says:

Nope! I WILL pinch Flynn’s cheeks though! He’s so adorable!

  20. serena says:

Flynn is super duper cute!!! Anyway as an Orlyloonie I hope he’ll find an amazing project and work steadly.

  21. Jen34 says:

He needs a haircut and a lot of food. Did he really need to bring Flynn with him? I wonder if he just needed to have family around. I’m sad that his marriage didn’t work. He and Miranda were gorgeous together.

  22. Dawn says:

I like him and so yes I would more say yes plus that kid of his is so darling! Among the best of all the celeb kids out there.

  23. silken_floss says:

Only dressed as Legolas or Will Turner 😉

  24. I Choose Me says:

I’ve always had a soft spot for him and I like him with longer hair. He looks good in that suit too. Wish he would take your advice about going into television Kaiser. He’s not exactly the best actor and he might do well on a series. These days television is a lot better quality than the movies that are being produced and I’m happy to see so many ‘movie stahs’ are not above doing tv.

  25. Abby_J says:

I think he is quite attractive, but NOT with the Legolas hair.

That said, are he and Tom Hiddleston sharing clothes now?

  26. mom2two says:

I do not like that hair cut (or style on him). Honestly, though, he really should think about a television drama whether it is on cable or network TV. I just don’t think the early 2000’s of Hollywood’s Orlando mania is going to happen for him again and I don’t think he is going to have the mid-life career resurrection that Matthew M is having (his talent was always there, just not used right). But if he and Viggo Mortensen reteamed on a project with John Rhys Davies, I would watch that over and over again. Loved the interaction between the 3 of them in LOTR.

    • Boromir's Bytch says:

Speaking of Viggo, Orlando was so much more interesting in the fan fiction world. Remember Viggorli? They were a staple of the LOTR stories.

I’d like to see him do more comedy. He was really good in Extras and I thought he was decent in Calcium Kid.

  27. Reece says:

He’s got a movie coming out? Why didn’t they save it for December? Looks like he got a good spot too.

  28. A Fan says:

    No. Blech. Get a haircut.

[Cute kid, but cut his hair while you’re at it.]

  29. jane16 says:

I love Orlando. I think he’s handsome and I love his voice. Also, he’s a very nice person, have never heard anyone complain about him.

  30. Camille (The Original) says:

Would I hit it? Not any more 🙁 . Especially if the Lohan rumor is true. Bosworth and Kerr were bad enough as it is. He has terrible taste in women which I think says a lot about him.

  31. Baskingshark says:

I would, but only with a baseball bat.

Just find the dude annoying, I’m afraid, and that haircut isn’t helping. He needs to stop trying to recapture his 15-years-ago sensitive romantic elf persona. His casting as freaking ROMEO is every bit as stupid as Nicole Kidman playing Grace Kelly. You’re over 30 and it’s not going to happen, Bloom. Go to TV, play directly against type by chewing scenery as a JR-type ultra-charismatic slimebag villain and I’ll sit up and take notice. I suspect others would too.

  32. Fan says:

He needs to go back to Miranda because I want to see another cute baby just like Flynn. Please?
