These are photos of Kate Hudson rocking some short shorts, high heels and a little white blouse tied up to show her impressive stomach. She was outside a restaurant called Organic Creations in Santa Monica yesterday, where she met Reese Witherspoon for lunch. As you can see from these photos of Reese outside the same restaurant, she was more demure in a flouncy animal print skirt paired with a black top, jean jacket and red heels.
While Hudson’s physique makes my jaw drop, I’ll say what I always say about revealing fashion: you should strive to reveal one part at a time, like some leg, some stomach or some cleavage. Showing both a lot of leg and a lot of stomach is a bit too much, even if you look superhuman like Kate Hudson. That’s just the mom in me though, and I don’t live on the west coast where this kind of fashion is more typical.
I wonder what’s going on with Kate. Official celebrity outlets announced in February that she was having trouble with her fiance, Matt Bellamy. Then they did a loved-up beach photo op about a week ago to show that they were back together. This outfit says to me that there’s still trouble, but maybe Kate just wanted to show off her hard abs.
This makes me wonder if Kate and Reese have a project coming up together, or if they just met for a friendly lunch. I wouldn’t be surprised if Reese’s production company has something brewing for Kate. IMDB doesn’t have any clues that I can decipher though. Ooh maybe Reese wants Kate to do something with that lifestyle brand she has cooking. I can’t wait to see what Reese comes up with for that. I think she’s going to blow Goop out of the water.

While I will never wear those types of heels with shorts, this is nothing new. Women, esp in LA have been dressing like that for years, If it’s not heels with shorts it’s jeans.

I should have said it looks bad with that particular type of heel. You could make heels and shorts look fine with the right shoe.
I was going to say the same thing. It might have been cute with sneakers but the heels make it look like she should be washing a car in a lad magazine.
It’s not heels generally, it is just the wrong type of heel. If she had a cute sandal platform it would be appropriate. But hey, I’m from Florida so I may be the wrong person to judge.

I ask because I hate the combo of shorts and heels, but I live in a tropical country and I’m 5’1, and while everyone urges me to put on some heels I just cannot (with shorts). Although style bloggers do it all the time… But they live in heels…

I’m not a style icon or anything, but maybe if the shoe was chunkier or strappier and more casual but had a heel it would be one thing. The heels she’s wearing look really dressy, like you might wear them with a spaghetti strap dress or something.

Or, I think as more of a night look, she could have worn dress shorts with that kind of heel. I feel like the causal feel of distressed denim and cotton top doesn’t mesh with the vibe of the preppy heel.
Well, part of the issue is those shoes look like they came from Payless circa 1985.
The rest of the outfit is just too casual for heels. It would have looked super cute with Converse, I think.
Anyway, shorts and heels can work IF the shorts are dressy and a reasonable length, and are worn with a more demure top. When everything is short, it just looks cheap.

The shoes to me are too much. Who wears heels with short shorts and a crop top. If you’re trying a casual look (which I believe this to be), then a nice pair of flats or even wedgies would have been better. But I’m definitely no fashion guru!
Reese looks so much better. Kate has a great body but she can show it off without showing so much skin.

@jinni, she has always been very thin and gained 80 lbs during her first pregnancy. Plus, she lost it so quickly (with intense work outs). I can’t imagine her stomach looking so tight after such rapid weight gain/loss. The belly button is a dead giveaway (and you’re right, they always look so unnatural after a tummy tuck).

@tiffany, have you ever seen an a colostomy? The ostomy opening is a stoma. It’s an openening (surgical or non surgical) where a pathway is created from the inside to the outside of the body or visa versa.

i would normally say too much, but she’s got the body for it. plus her shorts arent that short, her booty cheeks arent hanging out and her stomach’s not hanging out of her tied up top. i’ve seen a lot worse on a lot bigger; i live in florida. i love summer but i dread it at the same time because women start wearing stuff and showing stuff i have no desire to see. but again, her shorts arent that short and she has a nice flat stomach. i say, you go, girl.

I don’t like the look. The shorts are a weird color and cut, are they denim? linen? anyways both the shorts and top are bad shapes and look cheap. And the heels make her look like she tried really hard and just landed flat on her face trying to be ‘trendy’.

She could have dyed it white but if she’s been spending time in the sun it could bleach out. My daughter was a golden blonde except in the summer when her hair bleached to almost white because of her being outside so much. My granddaughter’s hair is the same. Needless to say they both looked like they dyed their hair once school began because they had “roots” from it.
I don’t know what stoma is and I will take the other posters’s advice and not google it! I do know that pregnancy can change one’s belly button. I wore lots of crop tops in the 90’s and funnily enough, lots of people, men and women, complimented me on my “cute” or “perfect” belly button. I didn’t realize there was such a thing as an ideal belly button. Anyway, my belly button is now pushed and stretched out a bit and definitely not so “cute”. Though my midwife says that I need to exercise more and that would improve its appearance. Oh, God, maybe I will google stoma now!

I subscribe to that rule myself. Like today, it’s warm out, crop top with a maxi skirt is what I’m wearing. I just think that if I paired a crop top with shorts, it would be on the beach with flip flops with a bikini underneath, not with high heels for lunch in the city. That’s just my take on it.
Do I think she pulls it off? Nope. Do I think ANYONE can pull it off? It’s too much if everything, the cheesy knotted t shirt, the midriff baring, the shorts, the heels. These things work great as part of other ensembles but for me, they don’t work well together at all.
If your body looks that good, I say go for it. The shirt and top are cute on her.

Agree 100%. I tend to follow a similar rule with jewelry, that you shouldn’t wear earrings, necklace, bracelet and major rings simultaneously. Be more selective in what you choose to showcase.
Reese has this knack of choosing stuff that makes her look even more short-waisted than she already is, no bueno. But her legs are amazing. Kate’s too, I’ll give her that. And her sunglasses. I want them.

Crop tops are fine if you wear a high-waisted bottom. They’re not meant for showing your belly button – gross! Well, Kate’s is anyway. No offence to outies. She’s in great shape but this outfit is just weird, and she’s too old, this is a look for 5 year olds in the 70s, minus the shoes. There’s a way to be sexy and not look silly.
Reese looks adorbs, Kate has a good body but she looks ridiculous, plus she has what is the classic lipo-tummy. They all kinda look the same and you see them on lots of women who’ve had babies.

Yes, Kate can definitely pull off this look, but I would lose the white high heels….exchange those for something more casual looking. Heels look really great with some things, but here, it just doesn’t work that well, plus it tends to look too “try hard” with an otherwise very casual outfit. Reese is finally wearing a dress that works for her, disguising her heavier midsection, and the heels look okay with this, although, I might try a chunky strapy summer heel look to blend in with the jean jacket. These red shoes scream nighttime or dressy to me…..
