Duchess Kate in yellow, structured Roksanda Ilincic in Sydney: fab or fug?

wenn21277553

I haven’t wanted to jinx it by talking about it too much, but everyone has noticed how often Duchess Kate has been wearing her hair back, right? Please give Kate a slow clap. I’m actually deliriously happy about the fact that she’s finally learned (or someone finally told her) that she looks immature with her hair down at every single event, not to mention all of the time she wastes touching it and fixing it and smoothing it down. I like the compromise we see in these photos – half up, so the curls aren’t in her face.

Anyway, these are new photos of Duchess Kate and Prince William arriving in Sydney, Australia today. For the arrival, Kate wore this beautiful, structured Roksanda Ilincic S/S 2014 dress (it costs £943.30). Look, a straight skirt that doesn’t blow up and show the world the duchess beav! Kate deserves another slow clap, right? I actually love this on Kate – I wouldn’t have thought to put her in yellow, but she looks bright and cheerful. Very pretty. I like the structure of the dress – it reminds me of Roland Mouret’s famous Galaxy dress. Apparently, William didn’t like it though – he told her she “looks like a banana.” God, William is so douchey. At least he made an effort to help with carrying George though.

So, the photos of Kate in yellow are from the arrival at the airport (with George) and then George went off with his nanny and Will and Kate did an appearance at the Sydney Opera House. I’m also including a few photos of Will, Kate and George taking off from New Zealand. Kate wore a different suit for the take-off – a blue Rebecca Taylor ensemble. Pretty. William also held George for the goodbye to NZ.

I wrongly stated yesterday that Will and Kate had probably left New Zealand after their activities over the weekend. Not so much. They were enjoying their second built-in vacation mid-tour. They spent a day and evening at Matakauri Lodge on Lake Wakatipu. George did not join them. You can read about that vacation here.

    I love that yellow dress!

    • LadyMTL says:

Me too! It’s so nice to see her wearing a different style of dress, and the yellow really does suit her. (I’m a bit jealous because I look hideous in yellow, lol).

    • Mary says:

I love the dress so much that I am not going to say a word about the shoes.

      • Cricket says:

Seriously! The LK Bennett sledge is back…ugh,… I wonder if she owns stock in them?

      • HH says:

This is actually one of the times where a nude shoe is perfect, but she wore them SO many times when another shoe would have been perfect, that the effect is lost.

    • JudyK says:

Ditto…don’t usually care for her too-prim style, but love her in that dress–great color for her!

    • FLORC says:

I like the color, but it changes from photo to photo. I’m not sure if i’m a fan of the super bright yellow, but like the softer, deeper yellow.
A sleeker skirt is what she needs if she refuses hem weights so this is a drastic improvement.

    • Okie says:

Agreed. I love the shape and the color-blocking; it’s fun but still appropriate. I also love the blue suit. And Will is holding George! Maybe someone is paying attention to the public?

ETA: Someone needs to help the Duke branch out with his style. How about Tom Hiddleston — an Eton and Cambridge grad, posh background, and everyone loves him. Perfect tutor.

      • Belle says:

I also loved the blue suit! Many more pictures on DM (of course) and the blue suit was my favorite outfit so far… though it didn’t look quite as nice from some angles due to Kate’s poor posture. 🙁 Still my favorite though! I also liked the navy blue that George had on, while being carried by his father who also wore navy (not much of a change there… but still made for a nice family ‘look’).

As for the yellow dress… love the style, HATE the color… that’s all.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

Yup love the dress! The hair is an improvement! And that baby! OMG so cute!

  2. Splinter says:

The white patch on the dress seems off. But what do I know, I’m a peasant. I like the navy one, except for the zipper on the back.
And look, Will is holding his baby!

  3. Loopy says:

I can’t even begin to imagine the grump that William will be in 30 years. And George didn’t join them seriously? Every time they leave him behind for things like this i guess it’s their version of date night.

    • TG says:

I know they spend a lot of time vacationing without their little baby. But I guess if you don’t work and you spend all day with your child taking a 24 or 48 hour break from them isn’t any more time then us peasants who spend more than 60 hours a week working and commuting from our loved ones.

    • AmandaPanda says:

My theory is that they’re trying like crazy to get pregnant so the press tie the dates back & point to all their romantic nights together and use it to drum up monarchical support in a/nz because the BAYBEE WAS MADE DOWNUNDER IT’S LRACTICALLY KIWI/AUSSIE DIANA WUD BE SO PROUD (etc etc).

      Yes, I am incredibly cynical.

Hate the white patches on the dress but the shape and colour are nice. Kate’s hair looked RIDIC blowing back and forth in the wind – she looked like she was about to take flight!

      • bluhare says:

        I like your theory, AmandaPanda.

      • CynicalCeleste says:

        Agree on theory and hair.

Half-up, half-down does not seem to me to be an adult style at all. Yes it’s out of her face, but Its still kind of a high schooler look, no? Chignon, chignon, chignon…come on hairdresser, show us what you can do with your bag of hairpins.

Something nice: I think the yellow roksanda dress and the blue Rebecca Taylor suit were smashing choices.

      • FLORC says:

The white patches remind me of Stella illusion dress. I dislike Stella so that’s where my mind goes.

I’m agreeing with your theory. Time will tell.

      • Liberty says:

Very interesting theory! I tend to agree with it. The perfect gambit, really

      • Belle Epoch says:

AMANDAPANDA that’s funneeee. Come visit Australia and throw another bun in the oven.

    • Tatjana says:

I’m sure William was joking. Or Kate was. Saying she looks like a banana is hardly douchey.

      • Zimmer says:

I sometimes think the wearing hair down/flashing legs and beav are due to William telling her how he wants her to style her hair/dress. He does appear controlling.

      • AC says:

Thank you. Good lord, I think its called affectionate teasing?? These two can’t win.

      • FLORC says:

        AC
This is not an all out attack. If someone isn”t tripping overthemselves to praise I’ll read “these 2/Kate can’t win.” It is your opinion of course and this is mine. I feel the can’t win card is overplayed here. They can and do get heavy praise. Often. They win more than they lose on a very opinion rich gossip site.

        Zimmer
There’s evidence to support your comment.

      • AC says:

Florc, not even sure how to read your comment. I really don’t care one way or the other about these two, although you do seem pretty invested in making sure the negative comments are well represented. I just find it hilarious how someone can read “douche, and mean” from her saying he said she looked like a banana. Am I the only one who see’s an attempt on her part and his to be light and funny? When did that become a harsh comment. Relax

      • FLORC says:

        AC
If you think I need to relax maybe you are also seeming to take this too seriously.
No personal attacks here. I’m not intentionally personal. It’s just how it comes out. Most of my sentences are through Google Translate to get them more understandable.
It’s all too often here that no matter what comment is posted that might be as small as constructive criticism someone who has nothing, but praise will say they can’t win. That’s whe end of a debate negating all future points and evidence because all it will amount to is being unfair.

And it seems you do care. Don’t backpeddle now. And if you think my comments are negative you need to visit other blogs or even the KK ones here. My comments are not out of hate or promoting negativity. If that’s how you are reading them you’re not understanding my posts at all. Others an so I doubt it’s a language barrier.

As for douche and mean being called for the comment. It’s being discussed. It’s being interpretted and discussed. Someone states those terms and others help clarify it for a better, more clear understanding.

      • AC says:

Florc… wow, you do care quite a bit actually. Backpeddle? For what and from who, you?
Perhaps it is a language barrier, or google translate thing. “They can’t win” is an expression, its figurative, not literal… as in, no matter what they say or do there will be someone who has an issue with it. You seem to think that I’m referring to “winning” like there are more negative comments than positive. I’m not counting. This is not a court of law, and I don’t need you to clarify what’s going on here, this is a gossip blog. 99.9% of what takes place here is speculation and conjecture., despite what “evidence you have to support” people’s observations. I’m simply observing that “they can’t win” and I’m lol’ing about it. Have a nice day.

      • caitlin says:

AC – While I concur with what you said about the William comment being taken too far — I do think it was made in fun — I think you are misguided about FLORC and her comments. Although she’s not what you’d call a Kate fan per se, she is very fair and balanced in her commenting and when she says something negative, there is always evidence to back it up (i.e. “Kate is lazy because she only carried out X# of engagements v.s. Sophie who did y#).

If you follow her comments at all, you will also see that she can be quite generous in what she says about Kate and is not negative for the sake of being negative. There have been instances where IMHO she has either cut Kate too much slack or even complimented her.

      • AC says:

Caitlin, that’s cool, however I think it was her being misguided about my comment, the interpretation of “they can’t win”. This is a casual fun gossip site, I’m not interested in litigating who’s getting more negative vs positive comments. I believe her “evidence” in this case was regarding William being controlling. Unless she knows him or someone very close to him, I suspect there is no evidence. I’m not here to engage in blog debate, but when someone suggests I’m back peddling I find that a little odd. Whatever, its all good. As she said, maybe its just google translate. 🙂

      • LadySlippers says:

Jokes and figurative sayings translate poorly in *any* language. And with Florc’s wonderful English*, you mistook her for a native speaker and assumed she knew what you were saying was a ‘figure of speech’ not something you meant literally. That’s it in a nutshell (another figure of speech — we use them a lot).

In fact, I now try to use lots of emoticons and punctuation to indicate my meaning just because Florc (and other non-native English speakers) often have trouble with ‘reading between the lines’ (an example) that we so often employ to illustrate or explain a point.

*No shade here. AT ALL. When Florc announced awhile back that English was not her native language I was shocked (gobsmacked) as I thought she was a native speaker. BTW Florc, what IS your native language??? And seriously, you do VERY well for a non-native speaker.

      • bluhare says:

Very nice post, LS. I was shocked when FLORC said she isn’t a native English speaker too. If my memory serves me correctly, Greek is her first language. FLORC, am I right?

      • caitlin says:

FLORC is NOT a native English speaker??!! Surely you jest. Come on, seriously?? FLORC, come clean.

      • LadySlippers says:

        Thanks dear blu. 😀

Culture and context matter. In everything.
We tend to forget this A LOT and shouldn’t. Culture and context is everything. Literally everything. Nothing has meaning without taking those two into consideration.

        **ETA**

        Caitlin,

Florc is totally a non-native English speaker. She often asks if we are being snarky because she often fails to catch snark and sarcasm due to language barriers.

        Blu,

Ya think Greek? That might be right but I have a REALLY bad migraine and have no recollection right now.

      • bluhare says:

LS, pretty sure remember FLORC saying Greek is her first language. Seriously; I was gobsmacked too.

Which is why her posts sometimes read a bit cumbersome, you guys. She uses a translator sometimes too. Yes, I get a bit tetchy when people jump on her because that’s why. And she’s a nice person, even if she is pretty tight with those wiglet wagon keys.

  4. mimif says:

I’m sure this has been addressed before, but as I don’t really frequent the RF posts, what’s with the hands. She Suz looks like she’s hiding something, mainly her, um…okay I can’t because I’ll offend someone, I know. I wish Cameron Diaz was here to help me out with the proper terminology. 😉

    • truthful says:

      what are RF posts??

    • Firefly says:

LOL, I see what you’re saying. It is an unfortunate placement of her hands. I’m guessing it’s an attempt on her part to keep her hands still, since she’s always noticed playing with her hair. Probably a nervous tic on her part – I have the same problem, I have to make a conscious effort to hold my hands together and still otherwise I’m messing with my clothes, my hair, picking at my fingernails, never really realizing it….damn nervous hands.

      • AM says:

I agree that it’s a nervous tick. I have a similar one where I tuck my hair behind my ears – anyone who knows me well knows to look for it, it’s my most obvious tell that I’m uncomfortable.

    • Hazel says:

I’m starting to think the hands-in-front posture was taught at an early age at those posh schools she attended. You know, proper decorum in public & all that. The odd part is when one hand pulls away–to shake someone’s hand, hold back the hair, hold down the dress–leaving the remaining hand in place. It’s a posture so ingrained with her that I don’t think she can break it. It’s much the same as when a man–and I think I’ve seen Prince Charles doing this–holds his hands behind his back, then leaves one resting there when the other comes forward to shake hands, etc. Ah, well. I’m sure the DM’s body language ‘expert’ has an explanation!

    • SayWhat? says:

I’ve always thought that she wants to keep showing off her ring. Cos I noticed she’s been doing that way back when they got engaged.

  5. paola says:

She wore yellow because yellow is one of Australia’s national colors.
I think is very cute that she is paying omage to he hosting countries with fashion choices. First the silver fern brooch and now the yellow dress.
I’m also very happy that we finally see Will holding George!!

    • Christina says:

+1 on all counts – well said! 🙂

    • Sacred And Profane says:

I agree, Paola. Yellow and green are our national colours. It’s not an historical thing, and those colours were originally chosen for sport purposes, but have been adopted for almost every occasion now. The yellow represents our national flower, the wattle, and the green represents our eucalypts. I’m happy that she chose to wear the yellow without the green, as together, those two colours look hideous. I really like the dress.

      I’m just waiting for a wattle brooch…

      • bluhare says:

        Pretty sure brought one!

I’m a bit disappointed in the jewelry so far. I was expecting more, but maybe she’ll up her game. Us magpies are a bit disappointed so far.

  6. Jessica says:

I love the yellow. Will is an a-hole. Why does he feel the need to cut her down? First it was the green dress is too bright, and now the yellow makes her look like a banana. What a jerk.

    • Splinter says:

I think that is his very dry sense of humour. It’s the same with George – when Will always tells people how much he screams. He also has joked about his balding head. Probably learned those jokes in the family, starting from grandpa Phil.

      • justme says:

I agree that is is just a joke. They both seem quite happy and engaged on this tour, both with the crowds and with each other and with their baby. I really don’t think there is much wrong with their marriage.

      • Dame snarkweek says:

William has said in interviews that her sense of humor attracted him to her. He said her humor is naughty and his is dry. I can imagine that for someone used to the posh girls this might have been different and fun. Other classmates have described her as goofy. Kind of hard to imagine at times but this tour has made it more perceptible. In another interview from a few years ago it is also fun to see their humorous interplay. It is also very interesting/puzzling to see him glance at her almost constantly to see if she liked the answers to the interview questions, what the hell happened since then??

      • FLORC says:

        Dame Snarkweek

From interviews and 2nd hand accounts to how we see them now it seems like the only way we’ll find out is in 20 years when a made for tv movie comes out along with several books claiming to know the “real story/behind the curtain”. Until then we can only speculate.

      • Dame snarkweek says:

        FLORC
The old saying ‘time will tell’ is very true here. Over time it is easier for people to be more comfortable telling the behind the scenes stories. The butlers and nannies will have published their memoires and everyone pegged as the other woman or the other man will have sold their story to the Sun, lol.
The best part is that we get to dust off our tin foil tiaras, gas up the wiglet wagon (unless it has been replaced by the Rogaine Roadster) and have a jolly reunion.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I honestly don’t think he’s trying to be mean, he probably wouldn’t do this if he didn’t know she can take a joke. I’m only assuming this of course but she could make fun of him just the same if she wanted to. He must know this, what with the hair etc. Plus, he tends to make fun of himself as well. He’s a bit boring and often seems a bit whiney but mean? Nah.

    • blue marie says:

Well if she looks like a banana then he looks like a beaver.
They could make that a tv show “Banana and the Beav”

  7. Esmom says:

I like the yellow dress, it’s got a nice 80s vibe, but the blue ensemble is really pretty. Love the texture and color. Agree that she’s made strides with her hairstyle but her eyeliner situation remains vexingly heavy.

But no matter what she wears, she’s got the best accessory whenever she’s got George with her. He is cute as a gosh darn button, so adorably chubby!

  8. TorontoE says:

Apparently yellow an white are significant to Australians, so that’s nice she is trying to honour her hosts. This wknd niece said a bunch of yellow Easter lilies look like bananas….she is 4. So obv those art history studies gave William a really advanced aesthetic.

    • allons-y alonso says:

I thought it was a nice touch. Duchess Kate’s dress was described as “Aussie Gold” in the news.

On a side note, I do feel sorry for the couple as they are meeting resident dropkick tossers Kyle Sandiliands and Jackie O…ugh, that is a peasant move right there.

      • Sacred And Profane says:

I totally agree, allons… Sandilands and that that O woman are simply vile. I don’t get their “popularity” at all. Surely they were not the very top of the list people who were in contention to be granted this privilege? And if they were, gawd….very, very bogan.

  9. Birdix says:

William changed during the flight, too–do they work on being coordinated? And isn’t it interesting how Williams’s dissing of Kate’s wardrobe keeps coming out? Is someone asking Kate what William thinks of her outfit? or asking William directly?

    • L says:

I wonder if her telling people Will’s opinion is her passive aggressive way of saying to the world “my husband has to many opinions on what I wear”

      • Liberty says:

        It’s working!

Instead of thinking about how work-shy she is, we’re thinking about her being mocked by her douch-y Duchy man. PR move by Mrs. M.! (“Get it out there, ducks, women everywhere with a tasteless hubby will love you! We’ll turn those public opinion points right around and get an increase in your allowance, oi!”)

WHY THE ENDLESS SHOPPING? (Kate would rather be helping charities but her husband hates everything she wears!)

WHY SO LITTLE WORK! (Depressed from his comments, and have to shop more to find non-yellow and non-green clothes!)

WHY SO MUCH TIME W THE Ms? (Well, he is always mocking her, you see!)

WHY SO MANY VACATIONS? (He has to constantly apologize to her and they must work on marriage!)

WHY IS HE W JECCA, TIPPY, ETC? (Who cares! Let him mock THEM!)

      • FLORC says:

        Liberty
        That’s a very interesting spin!

    • chaine says:

I don’t like how he’s always cutting her down. Isn’t that what Charles used to to do Diana? And then she’s getting back at him by telling people what he said and making him look like a douche.

    • HH says:

For the “banana” comment, it could have been playfully poking fun at Kate. I wouldn’t be so quick to call it a diss. Couples joke with each other all the time.

      • bluhare says:

True indeed. But unless it’s a personal joke between them, that sort of thing gets old quickly.

      • T.c. says:

Couples do joke and tease but you don’t say someone looks like a banana in public. It’s not a “cute” joke. Anyway I’m here just for the big George pictures. I love the big guy’s bitchface while being held by daddy.LOL.

      • HH says:

@T.c. – Did William say it in public? I read this as William make s little jokes in private and Kate repeats them in public for small talk. Same for the “too bright” comment.

  10. Inlike says:

Ohh I love her in yellow!

  11. MonicaQ says:

I would be an awful royal because I like pockets. Oh god if I had to carry a clutch everywhere, I’d lose it. My grandma jokes that I would’ve been the worst president in the 60s because I would’ve lost the nuclear bomb codes even though they were handcuffed to a guy.

    • mimif says:

Lol cute story. I’m a chronic misplacer myself, which is why I love the dresses with pockets. Even tho I think I shouldn’t.

    • Kali says:

Oh MonicaQ, if one is a royal, one has peasants for that whole peasanty “carrying things” sort of thing… 😉

  12. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

It’s a win! Nice dress, hair back, no upper thigh! Go Kate!

  13. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

If you look at the number of comments on her posts, you’ll see that other people are very interested.

  14. GiGi says:

I officially have a baby crush on little George! He’s so darling. And I love how they’re dressing him – smocking! wee leather shoes! I dressed my kids like this until they wouldn’t let me anymore, lol – love the classic kids’ clothes.

  15. truthful says:

I love her in yellow, look at George… he’s ready to play with those chubby cheeks of his.

  16. HK9 says:

I love love love that yellow dress~the colour and fit are great on her. 🙂

  17. Stef Leppard says:

I love how in every picture of Will holding George, starting with his christening, he is always holding him the same way. It reminds me of my hubby. He can only hold the baby one way. If we’re doing a handoff I have to turn the baby so he can get him into his hold. It’s cute and funny 🙂

    • Splinter says:

Well, he can’t have him drooling on his suit

      • CynicalCeleste says:

        Heavens, no

      • Wren33 says:

Actually, this is probably true. Whenever I actually have to dress up to go to a meeting I don’t put my nice clothes on until the last minute and I always carry my baby facing out or I will inevitably get a stream of spit-up down my front. I imagine when the outfits are so well-planned in advance they want to avoid having to do a last minute change.

      • AM says:

        @Wren33

Kate yesterday made a comment about the puppy smelling George on her suit, and I was so surprised that she would have been holding him that morning with her jacket on!

  18. Tig says:

I love that color and style on her- I love sheath dresses but they don’t love me!

Lighten up on Will re dress comments- aren’t these comments coming back via Kate? She’s prob embellishing a bit to seem more “folksie”.

  19. L says:

I love the yellow dress. And the blue suit. And grumpy george (he looked pissed the entire time with that baby frown. ) Adorable.

But mostly I love the puppies they got to hold in NZ at the dog training park. PUPPIES.

    • Cricket says:

Yes to the puppies! Especially the one if the pup yawning. Kate is totally in her element around dogs… I hope she gets involved with an animal charity of some sort.

  20. Cersei says:

I like the cut of the dress but for crying out loud, enough with the theme sh*t! She might as well drape herself in each country’s flag. Her ensembles can be so unbelievably corny at times. No comment on the shoes.

    • DameEdna says:

Well really, they all do the “let’s dress in the national.colours” thing……Diana was notorious for it.

Kate did well to avoid the temptation of adding green to the mix…..nothing worse than being mistaken for one of the Wallabies. Actually, it would be pretty daring if she chose to wear an outfit in the colours of the Koori flag…now that would be a worthwhile statement.

      • Sacred And Profane says:

Absolutely, Dame Edna! Yellow teamed with green is bloody hideous, as I’ve been saying on here for a couple of days, preempting their arrival. I hope she does wear something in the Koori colours, but that she gives the wattle brooch/necklace/hairpin a big miss.

    • Hazel says:

I’m with you both on this theme dressing. Also the solid color dressing. Red block of color, blue block of color, black block of color, green block of color, another blue block of color, and now yellow (not enough white to count). I’m thinking the Queen’s clothing adviser really did have a chat with Kate. It’s not just the lower hemlines and longer sleeves, but also this solid color/theme dressing. And yeah, the sledges are back. I agree with an earlier commenter, they actually work with this outfit.

  21. danielle says:

LOVE both of these dresses, my favorites so far on this tour.

  22. Jess says:

I like the yellow dress. And George is adorable. But why is he always in shorts when both parents are fully covered up. Seems like he should get pants too!

    • justme says:

George is wearing classic baby clothing. Which includes shorts for little boys. Upper class boys in Britain wore shorts in all winds and weathers (actually not just upper class boys – all boys) throughout the whole middle years of the 20th century, when classic clothing developed. Remember “John John” Kennedy in November 1963 saluting his father’s passing hearse? Yep he was in shorts and Caroline was in short socks with her dress. Jackie O followed the upper class American fashion of following upper class British fashion.

And guess what? All those little boys grew up just fine and healthy.

      • Hazel says:

And in an even earlier time, little boys wore dresses until about two or three. I believe Winston Churchill did (b. 1874).

    • LadySlippers says:

And to add on to what justme wrote.

It wasn’t all that long ago that girls and boys in the US wore short dresses or short trousers/pants (to the knee) to indicate they were children. At 16 they were able to wear full length dresses or trousers/pants to show they were grown up.

      • DameEdna says:

True that. I remember my brother, in tbe depths of a Scottish winter, wearing a heavy blazer and shorts as his school uniform……all the way through primary school.

It was a rite of passage when they graduated from shorts to long pants.

      • bluhare says:

I remember an American boy starting school at ours (in Edinburgh) mid year. He showed up in long pants. Second day he was in shorts. 🙂

    • Deedee says:

I agree that it’s more “traditional” children’s wear, and it no doubt calls up memories of William touring with his parents. In some level, this is a “royal baby costume.” It would be interesting to know what George wears on a daily basis. Does he crawl around in contemporary baby clothes when he’s not on a tour?

      • bluhare says:

Hell no. He’s in regular baby clothes like everyone else.

      • justme says:

I think that he probably does wear contemporary baby clothes.
        http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2593762/Kates-lift-Gap-500-yards-away-holiday-shop-Prince-George-Duchess-spends-20-minutes-browsing-baby-clothes-ahead-tour-Australia-New-Zealand.html

However when he arrives and departs and does a “crawlabout” as he did the other day, he is dressed more formally as are his parents. I think so many people have lost the idea that children can dress formally that they are surprised to see it. When I go to church on Sunday, a large percentage of the kids are in play clothes (heck their parents are in play clothes!). Well God bless them for going to Mass and I’m not judging them, but I always dressed up my daughter (and myself) because that was how I was raised – formal clothing shows respect. That idea may just die away however. I think it certainly has in many people’s lives. However it has not died away in the British Royal Family!

      • AM says:

When they switched planes in Australia on the way to NZ, he was dressed in a more casual onesie – closer to the things Kate picked up for him at the Gap. I would imagine that’s more his day to day uniform.

      • bluhare says:

justme: I agree!! Love seeing babies and small children especially all dressed up in other than clothes reflecting the latest cartoon!

  23. A:) old prude says:

I don’t like the yellow dress at all. It’s just emphasis how thin she is, plus since she have no curves this look just make her look bad.

Copy Kate is taking it to a whole new level with George wearing exactly same white outfit that Diana dressed William in as a baby.

God most of her looks are exactly the same with just different colors. Her clothes are just like her boring with a vanilla personality.

Since she is trying so hard to copy Diana, I’ll compare her.
So far her oh let’s call it fashion choices have been so boring. That’s my problem with her, she spends a huge amount of money on clothes but most of her choices don’t really stand out or look iconic. 20 years from now no one will be discussing any of these looks or there would be any iconic photos like with Diana we had that 1 shoulder white dress or Elvis dress, No one down 20 years will look at any of her clothes and think WOW, she looks so great! In contrast to Diana whose clothes I can still watch with awe and for hours.

    • FLORC says:

I agree with how thin she is. A deeper tone and fabric was blending the fabric folds that showed where she couldn’t fill out the dress. This bright tone can’t hide it.
Just like the boat picture. She looks very thin, but not too thin on her own until a thin woman stands ext to her. Then we see a point of reference and Kate looks too thin again.

And I was never into that Kate copies Diana stuff, but the evidence is mounting. It makes a lot of sense from a pr image/goodwill leech.

    • MinnFinn says:

ITA old prude. Also most of those very expensive ready-to-wear clothes don’t fit her because of her very long torso. Good fit is critical in looking polished. That red suit with the peplum and yesterday’s blue suit had potential but the look was spoiled because the jacket waist hit her about 5 inches above her natural waist.

      • AM says:

I actually think with her long waist that she might look very good in a spin on menswear – pantsuits, tailored trousers, button down blouses – but she seems very resistant to that.

    • SoCal says:

I couldn’t agree more. Especially when you said that her looks are the same just different colors. The only dress they will credit her with looking iconic will be her wedding dress. Its been downhill since then, I can’t recall any dresses that she has worn that will be called iconic in the future.

    • CynicalCeleste says:

Is George’s white outfit not just a copy but actually one of william’s baby outfits? Because that would be totally sweet…

    • Amanduh says:

“I don’t know whether she is naturally skinny or not but somehow making rude comments on actual or generally naturally skinny girls is okay and it shouldn’t be.”
      – You, “A (sic) Old Prude” on the Candice post.

      • A:) old prude says:

Yes and know Kate is NOT naturally skinny and that’s why I’m making such comments on her. She was always thin and healthy looking but this weight is not her natural and it shows on her face which looks 10 years older due to extreme weight loss. Also I’m not calling her liar or any thing re her weight, I’m saying her choice of clothing doesn’t flatter her current very thin body which I know is not natural. It’s completely different to what context I made comment on Candic post and you know it.

      • caitlin says:

A:) old prude — I don’t understand the other poster’s comment (who is Candice) but I’m assuming she does not believe Kate is not naturally as thin as she is now.

As anyone who has seen photos of Kate through the years prior to her engagement & wedding knows – and as you have pointed out – Kate HAS NOT always been bone thin. She’s always been slim and trim, but in a healthy, athletic way. Now she looks emaciated and frail and definitely older than her years. Pictures don’t lie, plain and simple — okay, except for the favourable photoshopping she sometimes has.

      • vava says:

Kate is starving herself and we are observing it.

      • Amanduh says:

“It’s so okay to call naturally skinny girls liar but dare someone makes a comment on someone ‘chubby’, it’s called fat shaming.”
-You, “A (sic) Old Prude” again on the Candice thread.
…interesting how your views change when we’re discussing other celebrities?

      • Amanduh says:

@ Caitlin: no, I do not follow Kate’s weight, nor do I care how thin she is/was. Commenting on someone’s “thinness” or “fatness” isn’t really my thing…it’s none of my business what’s going on with her weight. Why do you care?

  24. Tiffany says:

It seems like someone in their PR has been reading comments. The MM moment, the hair for Doolittle and the lack of photos of Bill not hold that cutie. And someone is listening. Baby steps kids. Baby steps.

    • Firefly says:

What’s the MM moment? Agree that someone is taking public comments to heart, I’ve never been one to be overly irritated with her hair down, but I’m loving the different looks she’s had with her hair on this tour.

  25. RedWeatherTiger says:

I like the dress on her. She works it. And I’m not normally big on yellow.

Men as a general rule ought to STFU when their wives get dressed. If you don’t like it, STFU. If it reminds you of something, STFU. Now, if her ass was showing or her nips were visible, then speak up to HELP your wife avoid an embarrassing situation. But your impressions of the dress? STFU.

    GEORGE IS ADORABLE.

  26. Emily says:

I find it interesting that Kate keeps telling people that William hates her outfit (she also did this with the green dress). There’s something passive-aggressive about it. Maybe she’s starting to fight back?

  27. Alexandria The Great says:

OMG! Now I know who George looks like and I DONT like it–like a chubby Justin Beiber!

  28. Kaylah says:

I love the yellow dress it really nice but those god awful nude shitwear are back. Get some new nude shoes Kate it’s not that hard. I LOVE the blue suit. The cut and texture are amazing. I hate her hair like this I prefer her with it fully up. She looks stunning but at least she’s not fiddling with it and they’re not sausage curls.

William is hardly douchey, at least not when it comes to her outfits. Plenty of significant others make jokes about their partners outfits. Not that big a deal.

George is so cute! That first picture is like he’s saying. “we in this bitch!” Love.

  29. Mich says:

Yeah! Another day where I get to say “Good job, Kate!”.

Hair looks good. Dress is great. She looks like an engaged and confident ADULT.

And Wills is holding the baby.

    See how easy that was?

    • FLORC says:

      Easy?
Not as easy as the weeks of no work and several vacations coming up!
Yes i’m being critical, but after several weeks of no events and several vacations with William somewhere else… will my statement still be critical if it’s also true?

      • Mich says:

Nope. Not going there. For now, they are doing exactly what we have been saying they should be doing for years now. I’m going to enjoy it and recognize them for getting it right for a change.

And in that spirit, I actually would not fault them for taking a little down time once this tour is over. It is exhausting to have to be ‘on’ all the time and three weeks is a lot of ‘on’ time.

      • bluhare says:

Don’t think we have to worry about the down time, Mich. 😉

      • FLORC says:

        Mich
Do you or someone else think you could post a link or list to how much “on” time there has actually been on this tour?
People state events, but are those events doubled up for numbers? 20 minutes or 2 hours long?

And i’m grumbling with LAK. Being more vocal, but just not going to think something has changed unless there’s a proven streak that it has. Although this is a good start and her wardrobe, hair, and how she acts with more ease in public has greatly improved.

      • Mich says:

I don’t think anything big has changed. But I’m not going to walk back enjoying that they are doing a good job on this tour.

        @Bluhare – Ain’t that the truth! 😉

      • bluhare says:

FLORC, I was just on Royal Insight Forum. There’s someone there who has put together a list of how much time they’ve actually worked.

        http://www.royalinsight.net/forum/index.php?topic=69194.0

The post I’m talking about is toward the bottom of the page, and she’s totaled their hours. About 20 hours per week.

    • LAK says:

Mich:i have grumbles, but overall, i’m right there with you.

  30. LAK says:

This dress is exactly like the blue LK Bennett dress she wore in between vacations afew weeks ago.

It’s much better in this yellow colour, but it’s like the Pink/Teal Emilia Wicksteed dresses, one for the ‘no’ pile.

  31. ~Z~ says:

Well, I just LOVE her. Well, both of them. I think she’s very beautiful, and it’s nice to have someone that I can always like!

  32. Gabrielle says:

    I LOVE that dress.

  33. Talie says:

Roksanda is an unusual and good choice for her

  34. Ronia says:

Someone has definitely made a not so nice remark on the flashing at the arrival in new Zealand, it’s obvious now. The straight skirts and dresses at airports confirm it as well as the hair pulled back. Good. Hopefully the remark was harsh enough to be remembered.

  35. Abby_J says:

Yellow is my favorite color (sadly, I can’t wear it), so I love the dress. However, can I just say that I adore baby George in the smocked sailboats? So incredibly adorable!

  36. HoustonGrl says:

I love that first photo where William is finally holding George, and kate is like “bye y’all!” lol
The banana thing is kind of funny, but kind of douchey. I wouldn’t be surprised if William is a spoile a**hole behind closed doors. Kate puts up with him.

  37. itsetsyou says:

Yay, that’s a great dress! And completely new and different from the kind she normally wears! I approve.

  38. MickeyM says:

Finally a straight skirt – BRAVO KATE. Slow clap indeed. She looks so much more elegant in a structured look. The yellow color is not my favorite but the dress is lovely. The blue suit she wore for take off is perfect and they type of look she should wear more often. I am glad she stopped wearing the tennis skirts (at least for now).

  39. FLORC says:

So, 2 vacations on a work tour so far. And during the tour they refused a dinner invitation that would have been very wise to take. Citing the reason they didn’t want to be away from George. Yet they take another vacation away from George before they leave.

Should they have said yes to the invite arrangements would have easily been made to bring George and his nanny to them.

    • Hazel says:

Good reminder of that incident. Two nights away from George but couldn’t spend an evening at dinner with the Governor-General and his wife?

    • CynicalCeleste says:

      Truth

    • bluhare says:

I swear I read they had dinner with him on one of their last nights there. But you’re right about the article claiming they’d declined the invitation.

      • FLORC says:

If you can find a link backing that up I’d love to read it. As far as I heard they refused.

      • mac says:

It was in several NZ papers that they had dinner with the PM on the last night there. It was held at the official residence.

As for the up coming break – I think it is less a day “off” and more a travel day. They are traveling from Sydney to Uluru. With the flight then the drive, that’s a good day worth of traveling. They don’t call it the outback for nothing…..

      • LNG says:

They did have dinner with the Prime Minister, his wife and son on their last night there:

        http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/royal-tour/9940930/Wills-and-Kates-dinner-is-on-us

      • bluhare says:

Here’s one, FLORC. I read it in the Daily Mail, but couldn’t find it in all theirs.

        http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/royal-tour/9940930/Wills-and-Kates-dinner-is-on-us

      • Hazel says:

Dinner with the Prime Minister, but not dinner with the Governor-General. That’s the one they turned down.

      • LNG says:

Hazel – I can’t find anything saying that it was a dinner with the GG that they turned down? From what i can tell, the PM wanted them to travel to his personal residence, but it didn’t work with their plans, so they had dinner at the official residence instead. So they didn’t actually turn down any dinners, they just had it at the official residence instead of the personal residence. Seems reasonable to me.

      • Hazel says:

LNG: you are right, I am wrong. Oops!

      • LNG says:

No worries Hazel! Until I saw that most recent article I thought the same – i’m surprised there wasn’t some sort of clarification leaked, because it really made them look terrible!

    • Nick says:

One would think that since they are in NZ & Australia for two week that they would try to get in as many events and with as many people as they possibly could. It just feels like these two do the bare minimum.

My company has week long conferences once or twice a year. There are a lot of events that I would like to skip and just go back to my hotel room and watch tv/rest etc but it is my job (duty) to go to these events and listen/meet people etc. While I am there I should be taking the most of the opportunity.

My experience is normal life, William. Not going on mini vacations after a few days of work.

    • Belle says:

Such trivial details FLORC! Who cares about such nonsense when we get to see Kate wearing all of these lovely new outfits, and even better, we get to see GEORGE! *sarcasm off*

I think Kate has done quite well on this trip, and George is adorable. William is… William. There is no denying that they are getting loads of positive PR right now, and many of the questionable issues (cough – vacations) have been, if not forgotten, then relegated to distant memory… for many people. I think they knew this would be the case and are capitalizing on it. The only thing that really bugs me about all of this is that George is being used in a way that is…. icky. I don’t know, maybe it has always been this way in the RF? It seems they know George is their ‘ace in the hole’ and they play the card just enough to come out on top… but they are careful not to play it too often, or everyone will start to think they are cheating.

      • Maggie says:

OMG! They are using George in a way that is icky? I have no words other than unbelievable!!

      • Dame snarkweek says:

I’m with Mags on this one. What is so icky?

      • bluhare says:

I’m reading it as they are using George to get everyone to love them, or at least forget the fact they don’t do much at home (or haven’t been recently before I get launched at). Don’t know I’d call it “icky”, but I understand the point.

      • Liberty says:

I’m with bluhare – I am not sure I’d call it icky, as clearly lots of people want to see him; but I do understand Belle’s thought on “is this a ploy” or just a couple wanting a memory and to be able to tell their son “you were in Australia/NZ when tiny, see?” someday.

      • Belle says:

Bluhare is correct… surprised the word icky was so offensive, LOL. That is how it makes me feel though when I think this couple is very much aware that they can bring George out for a few photo ops in order to generate positve PR. I’m sure they love their son very much, but they are also aware of how much he ‘helps’ their image (especially when they are receiving criticism). It feels wrong… Inappropriate, manipulative, sad… and yes, icky. My word for how I feel about it… Icky in that it doesn’t sit well with me.

      • Belle says:

Liberty, I didn’t mean anything about George himself is icky. 🙂 You are right about many people wanting to see him, and that certainly isn’t icky. If anything, I feel like it is the interest in George (which is understandable and to be expected) that Will and Kate can carefully use to their advantage… much like celebs do with their children, ask for privacy, but trot the kids out for photo ops when they need the positive PR. I’ve heard and seen many words used to describe celebs who do this, and ‘icky’ isn’t far off.

I will also add that it is possible that an odd sandwich I had eaten for lunch earlier before posting may have contributed to my choice of words. It didn’t sit well with me either… and the ‘icky’ word was probably front and center in my brain at the time… LOL

      • bluhare says:

Meh, I wouldn’t apologise too much, Belle. Just because one person chose to read it that way doesn’t mean anything really. I think most of us understood what you were trying to say (lunch sandwich notwithstanding!). 🙂

      • Feeshalori says:

Well, icky can also mean something that makes you sick or nauseated. So the couple’s manipulation of their image by using their baby for good PR could make anyone feel that way. Perhaps not too far off by any means.

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

I understand but don’t agree because we are not privy to why they decide to bring out George and under what circumstances. In fact I think this is a classic example of public opinion + Consensus x Repetition = The *obvious* conclusion/truth.

WK do not seem to bring their child out in public much, imo. Especially in situations where you can always see his face. I think that is appropriate. For this trip, however, it would have been outrageous not to give the public some extra exposure to George. In addition I think it is safe to say that WK have never been the types who ever feel that anything they do is less than wonderful/acceptable. I don’t think they believe they have done anything wrong enough to have to use their own child to deflect criticism. They aren’t quite there yet because the media honeymoon isn’t over, although it is running out of gas. they still act like and feel that they are public darlings. And given what Will has been through with the press his entire life and his attempts to thwart them, this scenario of let’s give them a little more George seems untenable.

  40. cro-girl says:

She looks fab as always. Always.

George. Oh God that baby. Look at him kicking his chubby legs around in that first photo, he’s so beautiful. That kid will be a force to be reckoned with.

  41. Lucky Charm says:

I want that dress! And it’s obvious that William doesn’t like bright colors on her. He thought her green coat was too bright and this dress looks like a banana? Ok, Mr. I-have-a-navy-suit-in-every-color, we get it now that you don’t like your duchess to stand out.

I’m glad that she’s been wearing her hair back more, it looks much better and more appropriate. It’s also nice to see her dressing more dignified as she enters & exits the plane with these last two outfits. Only her hubby needs to see her Royal Doulton!

  42. The Original Mia says:

I like the Roksanda in this color. I saw it in the original color block of white with yellow accents and it’s fug. This is much better. She has her hair up. Another plus. The shoes…well, she’s not a shoe gal, so her shoe game will always be lame.

    • bluhare says:

I agree. This version is much nicer than the dress it’s based on. I like the snug sleeves.

  43. winosaurusrex says:

I ahve to wonder if maybe we should give her a break about her clothing. If William hates everything she’s wearing this tour-where she’s looking fantastic. Maybe he’s the one who tells her what to wear at home-and he likes the look she usually wears.

Maybe we should blame it all on Will. I mean it sounds reasonable right?

    • bluhare says:

Not a bad theory. Makes her sound like she doesn’t have a mind of her own, though.

    • Belle says:

While you may very well be right, I kind of think Will’s comments might be getting blown out of proportion. I think they may be joking with each other… you never know, some of these outfits are out of Kate’s comfort zone, and so she may be making some joking little remarks herself, and William is laughing WITH her. I think she may be mentioning it because she thinks it sounds ‘cute’ and it gives her a ‘funny’ story to tell people.

I also think that they aren’t going to like how the comments are coming across when reported, and that Kate will probably stop making them… LOL

      • Liberty says:

Yeah, honestly, I think he’s just a goof re making jokes and she repeats them, and the palace is going to silence that — unless they feel it is making them more personable and relatable to the public. Then we’ll hear it forever. My other theory is above.

  44. Firefly says:

Love the dress, love the hair (she still gets half of a security blanket by having it down, but pulled back so it’s not blowing in her face), love that Will is holding Grumpy George – and I love that it looks like he’s struggling with him squirming in the first pic 🙂

  45. Penelope says:

Love the suit and she looks genuinely happy here. Such a pretty smile too. I had no idea Wills was controlling; that’s a new one here. I have noticed that in many recent pictures he’s starting to resemble his father, unfortunately. I mean let’s face it, Prince Charles ain’t a looker.

The baby is too cute for words.

    • Dawn says:

I so agree with you. Love that dress and find that kid adorable or at least his pictures are!

  46. Betty says:

God,I love the dress but she could f-cking invest in a pair of nude shoes that have a better structure. Those shoes suck. That jewelry sucks, all hippie and jingly and dangly on such a minimalist dress. it just doesn’t work. I’m so upset.

  47. SnarkGirl says:

Very pretty! Not many pale women can pull off that shade of yellow (it makes me look washed out & ill) but it suits her & the cut and fit are really nice.

I like her style in general. She walks a very thin line in that she has to look professional and demure, but still express her age and personal sense of style, but I think she does it quite well. I love that blue suit too. The raw/ruffled edges keep it from being stuffy.

  48. Jocelyn says:

I think she looks pretty here but the yellow and white pattern does not work on anyone on this planet. Probably not on Mars either.

  49. KateBush says:

I liked her blue suit, i think she must be listening to the public as shes tied her hair back alot more on this tour.

I dont like yellow dress , but thats because i dont like the colour not the style. the style of it was great.
i dont see the banana comment as being douchey, i think it was a joke.
From the anecodotes Ive heard about Willian he is down to earth and lovely.

AND he held baby George- there you go people you can now rest easy! LOL

  50. lex says:

They drove past my office on their way to the opera house and everyone went NUTS! We have loads of UK expats! Everyone ran outside and was waving abd Kate waved back and smiled! So exciting. We got a photo of them passing by

  51. JENNB says:

I love the dress and William’s a complete douche. The color is not banana yellow; it’s sunshine or lemon yellow and it really suits Kate. I think we will see her hair pulled back or put up much more often.

    • Sacred And Profane says:

JENNB… Actually, I have some Aussie bananas sitting in my fruit bowl, and they are the exact colour of that dress. I really like it, though.

I do believe William’s comment was a joke, too. It’s something husbands and wives do all the time… I think British, Australian and New Zealand humour is not really understood by many from other countries. I think it was his comment made only to her, and she chose to repeat it. I don’t see any douchiness or drama at all.

  52. Sacred And Profane says:

I’m just watching our morning news, with Mr and Mrs Royal attending a barbecue with firefighters in Winmalee, NSW. Kate is wearing a black and white wrap dress, and alas, the long hair is back in front. She looks alright, though, and appropriate for the occasion.

  53. Caroline says:

The yellow dress look gorgeous, especially next to Williams’ navy suit lol
Now I’m jealous, wish I could wear that shade of bright yellow
Wish she could change up the shoes

  54. Nina says:

Her clothes never fit quite right, she intended looks uncomfortable

  55. Nina says:

Yes and I dont understand why.
