Emma Stone Googles herself, refers to herself as a ‘Bland Basic Bitch’

emma vogue

Emma Stone covers the new issue of Vogue. The photoshoot is by Craig McDean, which is a nice change-up from the Mario Testino and Annie Leibovitz cover shoots we usually get from Vogue. That being said, I’m not crazy about the shoot. Some of the clothes are okay, but it feels like the styling overall is sort of meandering. Is it supposed to be summery? Eh. Is it supposed to be cute diner-themed? Eh. Is it supposed to be Emma-as-clothes-hanger? Eh. Anyway, you can read the full Vogue profile here (she’s promoting The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and here are some highlights:

Coming to LA and doing every audition, even for reality shows: “I realized why the people on The Bachelor go so crazy. You go in there rolling your eyes, thinking, This is just a reality search competition, but then you’re there for seven weeks, and you just really, really want to win.”

She has Googled herself: “I don’t usually like what I find. But some of it is really funny.” Stone mentions Internet comments that referred to her as a “Bland Basic Bitch,” which was probably meant as a dig, but she found it hilarious, to the point that at dinner she now begins to refer to herself as “That Bland Basic Bitch.”

On her boyfriend/costar Andrew Garfield: “I think I’ve learned a lot by being around him. And, you know, he is an incredibly important person to me.”

[From Vogue]

I just sat here and read the whole piece and I found it charming. She’s not a party girl, she loves puns and Jonah Hill flat-out loves her. Andrew adores her. When she worked with Bill Murray, he would bring her presents every day, little stuff like muffins and umbrellas. I really like Emma overall, and I think she’s incredibly talented. But I will say this… I watched part of her Graham Norton interview last week, and I was deeply upset by how noticeably thin she is these days. Concern-trolly, I know, but there it is. I know she’s having some family issues, so maybe that’s one of the big issues. I’m hoping that this is just a weird phase for her and she goes back to a healthier weight soon.

I LOVE HER. So funny, do beautiful.
And not annoying, unlike 90 percent of young actresses in the spotlight.

  2. Buckwild says:

I still really like her but she had an extra glow when she wasn’t as skinny and had full red hair. Also ever since she lost weight, her mouth area looks rather old and gaunt. If this is her natural weight then I have nothing to say but I hope she considers going off the weight loss diet if she is on one.

    • T.C. says:

She looks older with the weight loss. I don’t know if it’s family rated as much as movie star related. She dropped weight quickly and bleached her hair blonde to film the first Spider-Man movie. Good thing she went back to red cause the blonde just washed her out completely even though she is a natural blonde.

    • bettyrose says:

She seemed so naturally slender in Zombieland and Easy A when they first came out, but now watching them on cable there’s a world of difference to the skinny she’s rockin’ these days. I don’t think it’s concern trolling to point out that she’s starting to look unhealthy because I don’t think it’s her choice. Agents, directors, media in general probably all have a hand in these young women withering away to nothing.

    • danielle says:

Hmm, I wonder if that has anything to do with all of the weird baggy/unflattering dresses she’s been wearing on the spiderman tour? Hope everything is alright with her.

      • bettyrose says:

Actually, now that you point that out, I just remembered that she wears really baggy clothes all through the first spiderman movie (don’t know about the second yet). Now I”m really confused.

  3. yolie says:

She’s fine overall I suppose. Her voice just bugs me… A little too husky on purpose for me.

    • Valerie says:

I remember her saying that she was a colicky baby so that may be why her voice is deep and raspy. And I too see how skinny she’s gotten, I mean she was always slender but now it’s alarming.

  4. yolie says:

Does anyone also think the timeline of their relationship is a little weird? He was dating Shannon Woodward and broke up with her and pretty much hooked up with Emma right after. Like maybe he cheated on Shannon with Emma? I’ve always wondered about that.

    • T.C. says:

He broke up with Shannon right after Sony released promo info about how much chemistry Garfield and Emma have. I think he either cheated on Shannon physically or emotionally. Right now they are working together but what happens when he starts a new film and meets another actress that he has good chemistry with?

      • FLORC says:

        TC
        Exactly.
Once SpiderMan is done and Andrew does a movie with another datable girl he’s shown a pattern of straying.

And a friend of my husbands was in Amazing SpiderMan. Had nothing good to say about Andrew. Emma was very thin, but sweet.

      • yolie says:

Huh I didn’t know all that! I feel like his straying ways are never talked about. Maybe because nobody cares haha.

  5. Karen says:

The second photo should have been the cover, I hate the hat picture! She’s lovely, very charming girl.

  6. Hissyfit says:

I used to find her annoying when she first came out but I started watching her interviews and she’s so funny and charming and has amazing fashion sense! She’s not as annoying as Lawrence is now and not a try hard like Woodley.

    • maybeiamcrazy says:

Because she is not the it girl anymore.

      • Eleanor Zissou says:

She wasn’r annoying when she was an #it# girl. Lawrence and Shailene are/were.

      • Erinn says:

I don’t think Woodley is/will be an “it girl”. She doesn’t have the same kind of fan base Stone and Lawrence have. I work in an office of young guys who fawn over Emma Stone, and Jennifer Lawrence, but I’ve never once heard them mention Shailene.

      • maybeiamcrazy says:

Everyone is annoying when they are overexposed. Shailene may not be an it girl but she is overexposed.

      • FLORC says:

No, Emma was fairly annoying when she was the IT girl. I tried to like her, but when she’s promoting she’s either ott or not genuine.

      • Tatjana says:

I agree, Emma was never annoying.

    • Anne says:

Typical. When she was everywhere a few years back and Jen and Shailene weren’t famous she was starting to get annoying and then Jen came and started winning everything and emma completed disappeared and then Jen was the annoying one. People already wanted Jen to disappear so Shailene could gain the spotlight. Jen step back and Shailene came and guess what people are calling her annoying too and want Emma back. At the end of the year after Emma promote 4 movies, TASM, birdman, the new woody allen movie and the new cameron crowe movie she will be annoying again. Poeple on the internet are just awful just hating on whoever WOMEN are on the spotlight. I don’t see people complainning about Bradley Cooper, Chris evans, RDJr when they stay for months in your face promoting movies but with young girl always happens. Bradley cooper is a perfect example. He was everywhere on the last couple years just like Jen not only during award season but promoting big movies but nobody complained about his obviously hustle and overpromoting.

      • danielle says:

I think the “It Girl” always ends up hated on as well. Also, I will hate on Bradley Cooper if that makes you feel better – he is SUPER annoying. More so than Shalene, Jennifer, KSTEW, and Emma squared.

      • Lucy says:

        THANK. YOU.

  7. Marianne says:

I was just about to point out how thin she has got too. I mean, she was always thin…but she looks a lot more gaunt in the face now.

  8. FingerBinger says:

The worst thing a celeb can do is Google themselves. People say really cruel things about them. Too bad she didn’t Google those made up blind items about herself especially from CDAN.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

I still am waiting Bullock’s second adopted baby who ,ACCORDING TO CDAN,was for last X-mas or Bennifer’s 4th pregnancy. My fav was his report of Ashley Judd’s car incident …who wasn’t exagerrated or fake ( according to CDAN,the teen who drove Judd’s car was her lover whereas in real, she’s her niece ), Kevin Bacon/Kyra Sedgwick divorce ( what never happened) and Sandra Bullock’s future coming out for last summer

  9. mia girl says:

Can I just say that aside from the paycheck, IMO these Spider-Man movies are kind of a waste of her time/talent/career.

Prior to joining the franchise she was playing interesting characters and scoring leads. She was evolving as an actress across all fronts, comedy and drama. But I feel these movies have stunted her a bit. They are not particularly interesting and her role in the movies is pretty one-dimensional. It’s her charm alone that makes her character interesting at all. And Spiderman is a huge time suck for her.

I really like her but I’m not interested in the slightest to see her in this role. She could/should be doing so much more than playing the girl to the superhero and the girlfriend to the superhero actor.

    • neelyo says:

I agree. Bad career move but i think she’ll be okay.

    • Karen says:

It’s good for actors to diversify and do these giant studio films if they can. Also, she has more interesting projects lined up – she’ll be fine.

    • mia girl says:

I agree that she will be fine… I’m just eager to see her in interesting roles again (Gangster Squad not included).

  10. maybeiamcrazy says:

She is stunning, I love her.

  11. Stephanie says:

She seems smart and mature. She also looks great with blonde, red and brown hair, which is something that very few women can pull off.

  12. Lucy says:

She’s absolutely lovely. And as opposed to some people here, her, Shailene and Jen are at the same level of awesome in my book.

  13. doofus says:

as much as I don’t really care if she’s jealous or not, I can’t help but think of Lohan when I read about THIS lovely young woman and those like her.

as in, THIS could have been Lohan’s career, if she had just stopped with the partying, cut her mother out of her life, and actually concentrated on WORKING like she always says she wants to.

    • lucy2 says:

I remember Emma hitting it big just as Lindsay’s steep decline really got going, and with the slight resemblance and the red hair…I’m sure Lindsay is insanely jealous, and yet never blames herself.

  14. Jules says:

I like that Shailene Woodley would not let the press manipulate her into badmouthing her fellow actresses…that silly act of pitting actresses against each other. I have yet to be impressed by Woodley as an actress but I like her.
Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are actresses that, imho, are not only so very talented but also hugely likable.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

When Lawrence wants to ban the word “fat” but thinks it’s cool to call Christian Bale “fatman” or whe she says that to be lesbian is just a moment, she’s less likeable in my opinion

      • maybeiamcrazy says:

I don’t know about lesbian quote but the ‘fatman’ thing is just stupid. She didn’t even say it in an interview or anything, David told that story. There is a big difference between fat-shaming and joking on the set with your co-star or director.

      • Eleanor Zissou says:

If you want to ban a word, you shouln’t use it, even jokingly. She has great PR. It even won her an Oscar.

      • Jules says:

@Don’t Kill Me I’m French: oh, come on…a second hand quote (out of context) is nothing that should be taken too seriously.

@Eleanor Zissou: Of course, great PR is very important…as it is for all Oscar nominees. However, the fact that Lawrence has been critically acclaimed from her first film role up to and including her Oscar win (where, again, received rave reviews) the fact that Lawrence is incredibly talented factored into the equation as well.

  15. TG says:

Now there is a proper person to put on the cover of Vogue.

  16. Michael says:

I’m still pissed at her for cheating on kieran for like six months. She could of just broken up with him, she didn’t have to string him along for so long.

  17. shannon says:

i like Emma Stone, but it seems to me that a lot of people tip toe over the fact that she LOOKS AWFUL compared to pics from several years ago, before she lost 20 lbs that she did NOT need to lose. I’ll say it loud and proud…she’s TOO F’ING SKINNY. If she looks that tiny onscreen, can you imagine what she looks like in person? It could be personal problems, but IMO, it’s just Hollywood taking it’s toll.

  18. Kimberly says:

She looks like a cross between Jamie Pressly and Lindsay Lohan.

  19. Diane says:

Now THIS is a Vogue-worthy cover girl.

  20. Jayna says:

I love her too. I loved her in that movie with Ryan Gosling and Steve Carrell, Crazy, Stupid, Love.

  21. Clem says:

Thank you for finally saying it. She looks incredibly unhealthy. I have been waiting for a blogger to say it, because there are so many bloggers who love her and write about her regularly. I commend them for leaving her weight out of the discussion. However, at this point, it is impossible to ignore. There is such a stark difference between how she looks now and how she looked five years ago. It’s disturbing, and hard to see as a longtime fan.

  22. JH says:

That is one unflattering cover. YiKES. And I love her immensely.

  23. anne says:

I love her – so much more together and real than most celebs of any and all ages out there. Terrific young lady and think she and her boyfriend are adorable. I hope she never changes, and I don’t she ever will….such a refreshing change from most of the female attention starved shallow phonies that we are constantly bombarded with in the press. Please more stories on the cool ones like Emma!

  24. AJ says:

I actually think she looks better than ever now that she lost a little weight, even though she didn’t really need to. She was kind of plain before, but her features stand out much more now that she slimmed down a little. She looks great.

  25. jammypants says:

The Bill Murray story is just so adorable and sweet.

  26. CK says:

Shailene’s PR people, take note. It may just be residual Emma Stone love from Easy A and Zombieland, but the fact that she is in Spiderman and will probably be doing a crazy press circuit, makes me want to see it more. I do hope she gets back to her fighting weight though. She’s going to have to fight off the actress that plays Mary Jane (and let’s be honest, if the AG rumors are true, the occasional man) if she wants to keep her franchise beau.
