Ginnifer Goodwin: ‘I was literally barefoot and pregnant’ at my wedding

Pregnant Ginnifer Goodwin & Josh Dallas Head To A Family Get-Together
An eight months pregnant Ginnifer Goodwin was on Jimmy Kimmel this week, where she talked about her low-key wedding to her costar on Once Upon a Time, Josh Dallas. Goodwin and Dallas got married in a small ceremony in LA about two weeks ago. On Kimmel, Goodwin was really cute and funny, and she told some decent stories. She said that she had a relaxing wedding with one small glitch ahead of the ceremony. I got the impression that she’s really happy to be married and to be about to have a child. Here’s some of what she said, thanks to E!

On being pregnant at her wedding
We wrapped production on Once Upon a Time two weeks ago, and a couple days later I was wed in Venice, Calif. I married Prince Charming. We’re both southern, so I was literally barefoot and pregnant at our wedding. I was afraid I would fall over. I don’t know what I was thinking.

On if her parents were upset that she was pregnant before the wedding
We may be southern, but it’s also the first grandchild, so they’re not only ecstatic that I’m pregnant but they’re all coming back out here in a couple of weeks to just camp out and wait.

On how she had a great wedding
I know this is probably the most annoying thing someone can say, especially because I’m eight months pregnant…but it was the most stress-free, relaxing, beautiful day.

On the glitch before the ceremony
We hired a wedding planner to help us because we were in Canada planning this thing, and she called me crying on the morning of our wedding. Great, great, great on the morning of our wedding! And she said, ‘My car has been robbed.’

She says your ketubah is missing—the ketubah is a Jewish wedding contract, and you have them made by artists and they’re all in Hebrew and it’s your religious contract—and she says it’s stolen. Who cares about our wedding contract? That’s a big Twitter pic or something.

Some random guys helped her get her wedding contract back
By the time we get off the phone, I have messages from my representatives who say—this sounds like a joke—two Jews were walking down the street in Hollywood, found a piece of paper in the middle of the street, read Hebrew, knew that the 13th of Nissan was like the 12th of April, and that it therefore might be important that we get this piece of paper back with my name on it, Googled who represents Ginnifer Goodwin, found my reps at home on a Saturday, and got us back our wedding ketubah.

We sent them flowers. We said, like, ‘You’re a mensch.’

That’s such a crazy story about how two guys supposedly found her wedding contract on the street, were able to read hebrew, and got in touch with Goodwin’s reps in order to return it that same day. It doesn’t sound like she was worried about it at all though. She also joked about how her husband was going to be the first Jewish Dallas.

Here’s the interview with Goodwin. I have a much better impression of her after seeing this. She seems much friendlier and warmer than her red carpet demeanor would suggest. Also, I know she has gained weight but she’s about to have a baby! I was like that in my last months.

I guess I am confusing him with someone else but I thought he was gay? Who am I thinking of?

Poor girl is all swollen up. My feet look like pigs feel the last couple of months.

  2. Jackson says:

I honestly don’t know who she is other than from seeing her here on occasion, but I’m kind of loving that camel trench coat. Do I have to get pregnant to wear it??

  3. Allie says:

I literally hate when people say literally when they don’t need to. If she says she was barefoot and pregnant at her wedding, I believe her. I wouldn’t think that was exaggeration or a metaphor.

    • Karen says:

Barefoot and pregnant is a common saying so “literally” makes sense entirely in this case.

      • Allie says:

Guess I’m out of the loop, I’ve never heard of that saying before!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Actually, “barefoot and pregnant” is an insult. I can’t remember the whole saying, but it’s about keeping your wife barefoot (poor) and pregnant as a means of controlling her, and also includes the phrase “and in the kitchen” at the end. Not an expression I would use, but she probably doesn’t know the implications of it.

      • Sixer says:

Hi GoodNames (thanks for being so nice to me of late).

I think the kitchen bit ties in with “kinde, kuche, kirche” – an old German phrase meaning women should stick to children, the kitchen, and religion.

    • Belle Epoch says:

ALLIE I was going to say the same thing! It’s, like, literally unnecessary. But KAREN your point is well taken. It’s just that the word is literally so over-used!

Another pet peeve: “surreal.” Get a vocabulary. If you are too stupid to describe something that doesn’t make it “surreal.”

      Wow, grouchy.

  4. Kristen says:

I wish she’d grow her hair a little. She’s gorgeous – seriously stunning – but I don’t enjoy that super short cut on her at all. And why wouldn’t you take advantage of the awesomeness that is pregnancy hair!?

    • gg says:

I was just thinking, “lady, please please grow out your hair …” not attractive hair at all.

  5. Dani2 says:

I’ve always thought she was really cute and talented, and it’s nice to see her smiling for once! She’s got a really sweet smile.

  6. Jayna says:

I have never liked her short hair on her, and I guess neither do moviemakers. She said once they make her wear wigs. I’ve always seen her with longer hair in all of her projects, like a longer bob that looks real. I didn’t realize she had a wig on when she was on the HBO show, Big Love. I loved her on that show. I guess the new TV show she isn’t wearing a wig, though. I haven’t seen it, but I thought I read that on here the other day.

    • Delta Juliet says:

Well, it’s her hair, on her head, so if she likes it, who cares? Good for her for not caving into the pressure.

    • LAK says:

She plays a double character as does everyone on the show.

The version of her character in the ‘real’ world has short hair whilst the version of her character that’s in the ‘fantasy’ world has long hair.

    NOT a fan.

  8. QQ says:

I find her so adorable and watchable

  9. AlmondJoy says:

I honestly had no clue she was pregnant. I’ve always found her to be sweet and very likeable. Wishing her new family the best!

  10. The Original Mia says:

She’s adorable. So happy for her & Josh.

  11. ashley says:

Good for them, wishing them all the best! My teenage sister love her on once upon a time.

  12. Dommeh Dearest says:

I started watching Once Upon A Time with this newest season. They got me by bringing in the Wicked Witch! I adore her. She seems so sweet.

  13. Maritza says:

I wish she would let her hair grow, she is so pretty. Nice to see her so happy.

  14. Longhorn says:

Her eyemakeup looked awful on Jimmy Kimmel’s show. She looked like a crazy lady who found of can of purple paint on the street and used it on her eyelids to beautify herself. WTF???

  15. Sara says:

Eh, you can tell she’s retaining a ton of water. She’ll probably lose like 50 pounds within a month of giving birth. That’s what happened to me, I was huge but it was gone in no time.

  16. Kosmos says:

I saw her on Kimmel. She’s quite a talker, a little too talkative, but seems bright and appears to be very talented. Ditto about the short hair on her–she looks MUCH better with longer hair, definitely. I don’t know that much about pregnancy, but she’s gained a LOT of weight, like Jessica Simpson did. She’s huge, so I hope she can slim down after the baby. I hope their marriage works out. If she had not been pregnant, would they have married ?

    • Kerrboom says:

Yea, I know at 8 months women are usually big, but she’s HUGE and her head looks way too small for her body. I don’t know, she doesn’t look “pregnant fat,” she looks “fat fat.” Sorry if I offend anyone but that’s the first thing I thought when I saw the top photo.

  17. kitty-bye says:

At first I wasn’t into the idea of short hair, but hers really grew on me over time, she looks great in both.. I need to catch up on that show. The second video is so sweet! 😀 I don’t think I understand how women retain water during preg? is it painful? Have to research it heh.

  18. Sam says:

great to see a happy ending, some great ketubah at http://www.theketubah.com

  19. Anguishedcorn says:

Cute story, but I for one would be pretty upset if the ketubah were stolen on my wedding day.
