Elsa Pataky waiting 2 months after giving birth to do abdomen exercises

Here are some photos of Chris Hemsworth, Elsa Pataky and India Hemsworth on April 10th. They were going into a medical building – Elsa was probably having a checkup, I would assume, especially since she just gave birth to twins Tristan and Sasha Hemsworth on March 21st. So… it had been about three weeks since giving birth when these photos were taken. And Elsa already looked really slim, like once the babies were out, she was almost back to her pre-pregnancy size. But, as Elsa confirmed in a blog post last week, don’t think that she’s been camped out in a gym after giving birth.

Although she has previously admitted to being a fitness junkie, when it comes to working out post-baby, Elsa Pataky didn’t jump right back in. Chris Hemsworth’s wife, who gave birth to twin boys Sasha and Tristan five weeks ago, wrote in her blog for Spanish Glamour that she waited a couple of months for core exercises.

“In my case a specialized postpartum physiotherapist recommended not to work my abs until they were totally joined again. As you know, when you’re pregnant the abdominals separate as the belly grows. So you have to wait for your abs to return to its initial position before you start doing ab work or otherwise there may be a lump, like a belly that never goes away. I started working my abs two long months (after delivery),” she shares, referring to her first pregnancy with daughter Indie Rose, now 23-months.

The actress also shared that she is a huge fan of yoga and green juices, even sharing her go-to recipe. “The juice I like to drink once in a while and that helps me to clean my system is made with a blender: an apple, a carrot, some celery with the green leaves, a lemon without peel. Once it’s done, you add a few teaspoons of olive oil. Super good.”

Elsa also said she has no plans to have more kids: “(We) do not plan to have more children, but you can never say never. With twins you have more work, and now I have to do it better.”

The pint-sized blonde also said that with no acting projects in the pipeline, she wants to stay at home with her family, saying: ‘My children right now is what matters most to me.’ Elsa, who was born and raised in Madrid also revealed that moving to Los Angeles was difficult, but being a positive person, ‘even in the worst moments I try to see the bright side.’

[From E! News and The Mail]

Ah, so she probably IS working out, she’s just not doing ab exercises. Bless her heart. I don’t have kids and I work out all the time, but you would still have to threaten me with bodily harm to get me to do a sit-up. And here’s Elsa, just a few weeks after giving birth and she can’t wait to get back to ab crunches, she’s just being forced to wait because she doesn’t want some weird belly muscle lump. God, that sounds so gross. Does that really happen?

As for the juice cleanse… it is what it is. Some people love juice cleanses and some people don’t. I just have to say this though: even Tracy Anderson doubts the efficacy of juice cleanses. That’s saying something.

Last thing… for sure, she’s focused on being a mom. But it’s not like she’s really had to put much of a “career” on the back-burner. Harsh but true.

She looks amazing. I can’t believe she just had twins 3 weeks ago! And it seems like she is taking a reasonable approach to fitness. She wasn’t afraid to debut her big bump and now this down-to-earth approach… makes me like her.

  2. T.fanty says:

I smell an lifestyle-guru/fitness career in the air.

    • Anna says:

Yup, she’s joined the Minivan Majority

    • blue marie says:

Please just let it be gas.

    • pru says:

Maybe she’ll only try it in Spain. Hopefully.

    • V4Real says:

I wish they would stop trying to make this woman seem relevant to us. If it wasn’t for Chris most people wouldn’t even know who she was.

“The pint-sized blonde also said that with no acting projects in the pipeline, she wants to stay at home with her family, saying:”

That cracked me up. Sorry Elsa producers, directors and casting agents are not beating your door down to offer you roles. Just stick to your meal ticket.

      • jujoki says:

        + 10000000000000

        thanks

      • Hiddles forever says:

        Hahahahahaha

She is already luckier than most of the wannabe actresses in LA, they don’t have SUCH a meal ticket hanging around at home!

    • j.eyre says:

I don’t know, if her lifestyle tips get me a beach house in Malibu and a few go-rounds with CHemboy, I might listen.

      • V4Real says:

        LOL!

      • Marty says:

Well she is “writting” a book about health and fitness, so it looks like you’ll get your chance!

Hey maybe she put a chapter in there about reposting pap pictures of herself on her blog while complaining the paps “don’t let you live your life”, as an eyeball exercise. I sure didn’t know my eyeballs to roll that far back into my head when I read that little jem.

      • T.Fanty says:

Damn. Didn’t think of that. I am SO buying that book. Although if I get stuck bearing Budget Hemsworth children, I want my money back.

    • aquarius64 says:

That’s why she’s blogging for Spanish Hello. Studios are not throwing scripts at Ms. “Snakes on a Plane”. She needs the blog to keep her name out there, along with the pap strolls (with Chris’ blessing, I’m guessing). BTW, Chris is on location beginning to film Avengers Age of Ultron, so I think Elsa is going to be abusing the speed dial button for the paps for a while.

  3. paola says:

She looks fantastic but to be fair she didn’t gain much weight while pregnant. From her pictures it looked like the extra pregnancy weight was all in her belly unlike Ginnifer Goodwin. I’ve Seen her pictures yesterday and i barely recognized her. She looks so much different. I’m sure if i’ll ever ger pregnant i’ll be like Ginnifer and NOT like Elsa or Miranda Kerr or Gisele.

    • bsh says:

Yep. I feel bad about discussing a woman’s appearance based on the amount of weight she gains while pregnant, but Ginnifer is HUGE right now and looks super uncomfortable. She gained weight all around her body and I honestly feel for her cause I can’t imagine how exhausting it is to drag all that extra weight around and also do TV promotions (I saw she was on Jimmy K a couple of days ago..). But I know that every one carries differently, and you might be extra careful and eat healthy and still gain a whole lot of weight, so I am not judging her or anything (just to be clear).

    • Dani says:

I was about Ginnifer’s size when I was pregnant with my daughter seven months ago. I’m generally (what I think is) thin, at 5’7” 145 and I gained 56 lbs EVERYWHERE. I was humungous. It was THE WORST trimester. I was eating okay though, like I normally did and I still packed on the lbs. It’s really just how your body responds and gains what it thinks it needs to. I had a 6 lbs 13 oz baby at 40w3d so it’s not even like I had a huge baby. But honestly, the weight flew off after the 3rd month, I’m now back to what I was +3lbs less (142) and I don’t work out, just watch what I eat (sort of, not really). Your body doesn’t look the same naked hahah but with clothes I look like I always did.

      • bsh says:

Exactly. My sister has always been skinny, during her 20s people would tell her she was way too thin, even though she has never dieted or even watched what she was eating in her whole life, and she has never practised sport. She got pregnant for the first time when she was in her late 20s, but she sadly lost the baby in the first trimester. Even though it crashed our spirits, her doctor was very supporting in saying that her body just wasn’t ready yet and the unborn baby was still so important in that he had helped make the ‘home’ ready for the next, healthy one.. and so was it. After the abortion, she naturally kept the (very little) extra weight she had gained, she was still smaller than the average woman her age, but when she got pregnant again with my nephew (who is now a very healthy, hyperactive 2 year-old!) she became HUGE. She is about 5′ 16 and she gained almost 45 pounds. Her feet were giant, but what amazed me the most was her face, all swollen and round! With breastfeeding and no exercise at all, she quickly bounced back to her pre-baby weight. BUT her stomach has not been the same ever since, it now looks like she’s still 3/4 months pregnant (to be fair, she couldn’t except a different outcome, considering that my mom bought her an elastic band she was supposed to wear right after the birth, and she never did, she still refuses to work out / do any sort of physical exercise / she doesn’t watch her food…)

  4. Anna says:

Hi honey, hi sexy, hi muffin. Welcome back 🙂

  5. lana86 says:

green juices are not about cleanse nessecarily. Its not right to live on juices – (u’ll get constupated and hungry) but to drink them in the morning is obvious health benefit!

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I thought it sounded delicious just as an occasional drink, not a cleanse or diet, maybe for breakfast, as you said.

      • ..OR you could have pancakes with syrup.

        Just sayin’.

      • lana86 says:

TOK- why not both?) that’s what i do! 🙂

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Hey, I said it sounded good, not that I was going to drink it.

      • Isadora says:

Pancakes with syrup … brrr… I hate that for breakfast. Pancakes with blueberries and a dollop of yoghurt, maybe. But syrup for breakfast really kills me. I also never liked breakfast cereals, they are way to sweet for me and I can’t eat something sweet when I’m hungry.

So I’d probably prefer that juice of hers over the pancakes. Although the yummiest breakfast for me is still a classic Mediterranean/Turkish breakfast – tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, feta and/or hummus, bread.

    • Meredith says:

She forgot to tell people to add some water if you make it in a blender. And use a high powered blender. I’m going to try it.

  6. Loopy says:

When i had my son i had a nurse the next morning telling me how to get my stomach back in shape, and my Mum who is African made me wear this ‘African sarong’ sort of like a make shift corset that she swore by almost immediately.

    • TheEntrepreneursWife says:

Did either of them work? I’m a year out and still struggling with my tummy 🙁 (and I am exercising regularly – GAH).

      • Loopy says:

Well my son is now 8 and it looks like i just finished off a beer keg.

      • lana86 says:

did u try not to eat after 6? it works

      • Bridget says:

If you want to get belly fat off, you have to look at your diet. Ever heard the phrase “abs are made in the kitchen”? Cut out the white sugar, eat lots of veggies, some fruits, and good fats and proteins. When you exercise make sure you’re getting yourbheartrate up and working hard – if you arent already do HIIT if you’re looking to lose weight

    • megs283 says:

Loopy, I think I love you!

    • LAK says:

Many Africans use the belly sarong corset thingy immediately after birth.

Philosophy [hats off to the many aunties who always bring it up at parties] is that it helps knit your abdominal muscles back to where they were pre-pregnancy without strain.

I’m sure someone has looked into the science of it, but anecdotally speaking, it works, but you have to wear it for the first 6weeks after giving birth or until your stomach muscles have re-set or perhaps alittle longer when you start exercising for support, like a weight lifter’s belt thingy.

      • Loopy says:

No it does work, i was just kidding, it was my own lack of discipline. But it absolutely works, if you are serious and disciplined with it you will see the results.

    • Isadora says:

I can imagine it works because you also get some kind of corset thingy after a tummy tuck, breast surgery or liposuction, probably to support proper healing.

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Look into a bellefit corset. I’m 5 weeks post partum with my third and I wear it day and night (unless I’m exercising). I also went back to Pilates and TRX 3 times a week at 4 weeks post partum. Both the garment and the exercises have helped my stomach immensely.

  7. thinkaboutit says:

Tracey Anderson doesn’t advocate juices because that’s not what she sells. Her opinion carries no weight for me, whether we agree on a given issue or not. She’s a quack, not a guru.

  8. Sabrine says:

Juice “cleanses” are a joke. You’re not cleaning anything but if people like to think they do and it makes them feel good, then more power to them. Just eat the stuff. It’s better for you.

Much of regaining your pre-pregnancy weight and shape is watching your diet and passing on the refined carbohydrates. Add to that an hour of exercise five days a week and you’ll be looking good.

    • Maryjones says:

What do you know? Who are you to give fitness advice? People are stupid if they take advice from some moron on a message board.

      • Meredith says:

I can’t tell if Mary Jones is trolling or genuinely that upset…

      • Jackrabbit says:

Um…..I think the last bit about exercising was meant to be a bit of a joke/sarcasm, however, the bit about watching your diet and refined carb intake is practical, sound advice……advice one doesn’t need to be an expert to give…..not that Sabrine claimed to be one in the first place😉

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Maryjones, are you currently on a juice cleanse, by any chance, because you seem a little…cranky.

      • Lex says:

Do about 2 minutes of research Maryjones. They’re an ineffective fad.

People can take whatever advice they choose and people who offer help are not ‘morons’ thank you! If there was one way to do everything, the world would be a very dull place.

      • aenflex says:

Maryjones – why don’t you run along and troll somewhere else where intelligent folks don’t hang out?

      • Yes. Once I did a cleanse/juice fast and I sounded very much like Maryjones here.
I wanted to slap anyone who looked at me.
        I blame the caffeine withdrawal.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

OKitten, I sounded like that for about a year when I first started having menopause symptoms. Worst year of my life. And my poor husband’s. Lol

      • Dinah says:

        BAAAALLLLLSSS!!

      • Lindy79 says:

Maryjones = Me on Atkins after 3 days

      • Lizzy1013 says:

I have actually learned a lot about make up, beauty products, clothing brands, and more from these message boards. I would rather listen to real people who have tried something than a celebrity with an agenda. Why not fitness advice?

Whoops I fed the troll. Darn it!

    • Isadora says:

Juices don’t “clean” anything, I agree. But a lot of people aren’t very keen on veggies and don’t like to eat them in a sufficient amount and therefore adding juices/smoothies to your diet simply brings more veggies/fruits to your diet, which is not a bad thing. And with 2 juices/smoothies a day you get quite a few of those into your body, it would be much harder to just eat them.

    • raindrop says:

Eeeeehhhhh … yes but no. Most “juice cleanses” are total bunk, I agree. But there’s some merit to the notion that you can “cleanse” your digestive tract – with juice, or other diets. For instance, many people with leaky gut syndrome experience recovery by omitting processed foods and certain food groups entirely, and by sipping bone broth. And plenty of people juice for health. Just because you aren’t living on juice alone (and really, you shouldn’t) doesn’t mean it won’t help “clean” your system.

      • Isadora says:

Leaky gut syndrome is a bit of a controversial topic. It’s not scientifically proven that such a thing even exists, but people sell a lot of stuff with it.

  9. Secret says:

she looks good and hides the “tummy” well in that outfit. I need to take some pointers. My belly was a big mess after both kids. I run and nothing. Then (7 months after my 2nd kid), I noticed that my legs were toned and muscular from running. My belly? Jiggly as all out. I realized that you have to actually work your muscles if you want results. I’m too tired to add abs to my routine yet. I’ll stick with the pooch.

I did notice that after my first kid, I did have sort of a weird stick out vertical bump down my stomach area. I had a c section and waited 2 months as well to work the abs.

    • tinyfencer says:

C-section was my first thought here, too. I was told not to work the abs after a c-section because the abdominal wall is cut and if you work those muscles before they join again you just move them further apart from each other, causing that bump. I didn’t know that was a restriction with a conventional delivery as well. Since she had twins, her chances of having delivered via c-section are higher than average. I had triplets, and I know that with twins they let you try a natural delivery, but you often end up in surgery. With triplets they don’t even let you try, they go right to surgery.

      • PunkyMomma says:

Tiny, I’m in awe of you and your triplets.

      • Bridget says:

What Elsa’s talking about (the separation of the abdominal muscles) is called d iastasis recti and is super common among pregnant and postpartum women. After having twins hers probably would have been quite severe. Its something that can eventually go away with physical therapy, but you want to be careful in the meantime.

      • Dinah says:

        @Bridget:
Yes, that is what I came here to say. I had twins and a subsequent 4″ diastasis which wasn’t going anywhere without a surgical joining ( which, I confess, I did end up having when I had my tubes tied later). They are a bitch because nothing improves a wide separation and your chance of herniating abdominal contents increases.

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

I too had a diastasis after my first pregnancy. I was 5’7″ 115 lbs prepregnancy and only gained 38 lbs, yet still developed that seperation of my rectus abdominus muscles. It’s not as “gross” as Kaiser thinks. It’s quite small, yet still upsetting because you work SO hard for that flat prepregnancy belly and the muscles won’t cooperate. Certain exercises can help close the gap but nothing (aside from surgery) will close it completely. When I’m finished nursing this third, and final, baby I will have the diastasis and hernia repair that I need. My advice to women who are pregnant with their first (or very recently post partum) is to get a binding garment to support your muscle wall. I didn’t because I assumed having a strong core (prepregnancy) would prevent abdominal laxity. Sadly, I was wrong.

      • paranormalgirl says:

Diastasis Recti is not technically “supposed” to happen, but it happens in 60 – 90% of pregnancies, especially with multiple births and/or multiple pregnancies. A dear friend just lucked out with no separation of the abs even after twins. But yeah, we have to wait for a bit after birth to allow the abs to attempt to rejoin on their own, then work on the core with exercises like core contraction. DO NOT DO CRUNCHES TO HEAL DIASTASIS RECTI!!! Crunches can make it worse. You need to pull is your abs, not push them out. A wide diastasis will require surgery to correct.

(qualification, I am an MD, though I specialize in psychiatry)

  10. Meredith says:

Well its a good thing Chris Hemsworth will be kept busy by Marvel for the next few years so Elsa can put that active career on the back burner. But to slightly say something in her corner, I like a juice fast after a superbowl weekend of eating horrible. Or Memorial Day weekend BBQs coming up. It just makes me feel better after eating junk food.

    • Kenny Boy says:

I agree about the cleanses. It’s basically a fast, and thus more about refraining from toxins and drinking lots of water, not being magically flossed out by liquid celery. Makes me feel great, but I can see why people are skeptical. It’s definitely not for everyone.

  11. Rianic says:

Lose Your Mummy Tummy is a great series. It encourages binding. Most doctors will tell you to wait 6-8 weeks before doing abdominal exercises to give your body time to heal.

  12. Birdix says:

She’s talking about diastasis recti–happens with some women in pregnancy (especially multiples) but not most. A friend had it, and it didn’t self correct, so she had surgery to fix it and decided to add a tummy tuck at the same time. Talking about how quickly women bounce back from pregnancy is my least favorite part of celebrity chatter.

    • Delta Juliet says:

“Talking about how quickly women bounce back from pregnancy is my least favorite part of celebrity chatter. ”

I’m with you on that one.

    • paranormalgirl says:

It actually happens in 60 – 90% of pregnancies (depending on the study), though a lot of the time it’s small enough that it’s not even noticed and heals on its own.

  13. Kenny Boy says:

Elsa didn’t say she is doing a juice cleanse – just that she juices on the regular. Perfectly healthy. I did a juice cleanse a few years ago and I actually liked it, but I haven’t done it since. It’s just too much constant cleanup for me. Elsa is clearly angling to be the Euro Jessica Alba, which is better than being the Euro Goop IMO.

  14. fanty says:

I watched Robin Wright on a Craig Ferguson interview some time ago, she’s a very well known yoga fanatic, great body, thin but strong. She said that she had to had a C-section because of her stomach muscles were so tight when she gave birth her first child. She was talking about Bikram yoga, which is a great workout. The prove is that she’s 48 and has a body that most 25 y.o. girls could only dream of.

    • kel says:

Excuse me? She HAD to have a c-section because her stomach muscles were so tight? GMAFB, well, at least that’s original..

      • Jag says:

I know, right? She just wanted to have a tummy tuck right after giving birth, and having a C-section with that excuse would deter anyone questioning it, is my guess.

  15. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

With all the help they get, these celebs should be bikini ready Two hours after giving birth – two months is too long.

  16. SK says:

Just want to point out that she refers to making this in a blender; which means it’s a smoothie not a juice. That might sound like a trivial difference; but it’s not. Smoothies can be very good for you, as they still contain the fibre evident in the food, unlike juices.

    • Isadora says:

Juices also have their place, especially for people with problems like IBS, Morbus Crohn or Colitis ulcerosa. Fibre is great, but for some rather hard to digest and you have to go slowly. With juices you still get the goodies (vitamins, minerals, etc.) without having to deal with the fibre if you have problems with that. Plus most homemade juices do still contain a bit of fibre as they are not filtered.

There are also “juice kits” for blenders, they have a mesh strainer inside to filter the fibre. I suspect it doesn’t work that well, but I never tried this.

  17. Isadora says:

If she wants to be a full-time mum for a while – all the power to her. I think all women today should have a right to chose if they want to pursue a career or be full-time mums without judgement. Or being forced to work because of financial reasons (which is most often the case, sadly). I think it’s horrible if women say about another woman that she’s “just” a mum/doesn’t want to be a career-juggling supermom because I suspect “mum” is a very hard job, esp. with three children now.

It would be just more believable if she won’t call the paps.

And strangely I think I would like her better as a real health/fitness guru than a would-be actress. That’s a first.

  18. Shopperetta says:

    I’ve been waiting fifteen years!

  19. Nene says:

I don’t know why it’s a surprise that Elsa lost her baby weight fast. She has an atlethic body type which always comes with great legs- think Cameron,VB,Leann,Hilary,Hayden,to name a few. Their legs are their best feature.
And she was fit and slim before and during her pregnancy.

Besides if you’ve got a hot hubby as she does, you wouldn’t want to slack.
Chris is one yummy specimen of a man. And this is coming from someone who hardly ever finds any of these so called hollywood ‘hunks’ attractive. He is the definition of hunk.

  20. itsetsyou says:

I’ve never heard of her until she started showing up in the media as Chris’ wife, but I like her. She appears to be very smart in that she got what she wanted – a family with a good man. Maybe her acting career never reached any heights, but it seems she was only in it to have fun, make good money and meet her future husband.

  21. Mena says:

I have been pregnant three times and I still have the same figure I had in my early 2os. People always called me “celebrity mom” because I was back to my regular clothes in 21 days. I exercised and ate sensibly throughout my pregnancies and went back to a regular fitness routine post pregnancy as soon as I got the okay from my Dr. It’s really not as difficult as people think. Eat well, drink water, exercise with strength training, and sleep. It’s worked for me, and I am no celebrity.

  22. LittleMissy says:

Well I just had a baby 18 days a go (C-Section, he was breech) and my stomach has shrunk almost back to normal, I gained only 40 pounds during my pregnancy and I ate EVERYTHING!!! i did not hold back, my belly was all baby! I soon as i gave birth I used the binding they gave me at the hospital and did not take it off at all, even slept with it, and I’m still using it at home….but exercising has been part of my life for many years and I think that helped my belly muscles to go back to normal right away….My advise is stay as active as you can during your pregnancy, I know I did even though its hard just stay active!

  23. Jag says:

I’d’ take anything that Tracy Anderson said as a joke.

Good for Elsa for waiting until her body heals, even though it sounds like it’s more superficial than biological in nature.

  24. Mrs Odie says:

I haven’t done abs exercises since my baby was born five years ago, but just to be safe, I think I’ll wait five more years. I’m extremely cautious.
