Rita Ora has been up in New York City for the past few weeks. She’s just been officially named as an ambassador for Roberto Cavalli. Rita greeted the announcement by posting some Instagram photos of herself making out with Roberto’s wife, Eva. I don’t know what’s going on there besides … scandal.
What I’d really like to talk about is Rita’s NYC street style. CB noted this about a week ago in the featured links, but Rita’s fashion sense has grown progressively worse as the days have passed. Alarmingly so. In the above photos, she’s wearing what looks like mint-colored toilet paper. Remember the amazing days of colored toilet paper in the 1970s? That brings back hazy memories of youth. My toddler self made my poor dad “dress” me up in pink toilet paper as I declared myself a princess. He’d wear a pink toilet-paper moustache as the princess’ frog. We are a weird family, yes. “Weird” is exactly how I feel about Rita’s mint-colored ensemble.
One reason why I’m making the Rita-Gaga connection is because Lady Gaga said mint would be ““huge” during her “Marry the Night” crackie nightmare video from 2011. Rita is now wearing mint, which could be a happy accident or a coincidence. She’s already an established pop entity in the UK, but I feel like Rita’s trying to happen Stateside too. I can’t blame her. The US gym culture loves Rita’s tunes, and putting a name to a voice is useful for sales.
These outfits are all pretty bad. Rita’s using the same tactic that Gaga has used for years. Release a single and pose for the paps while dressed in weird “geometric” ensembles. This simple equation was gold until it failed for Gaga with her ARTPOP album. Nobody notices Gaga’s weird outfits anymore, so I’m wondering why Rita’s pulling the same game. These are not simple, casual outfits. She wants attention. Rita also told Us Weekly that Nick Jonas had a crush on her years ago. She’a a bit late for such bombshell news. Rita has a great voice. She needs to rely on that instead of attention-grabbing antics.

Exactly. She is in the US more than she is in the UK she is trying sooooooooooooooo hard to crack that but I don’t think she will. Better be happy with her DJ bf and doing ok in the UK but she has only had 1 album and that wasn’t that great..

I thought her album was pretty good for a debut. The first half of the album was better though. I think she’ll get even better with time, I’ll give her a chance. She has a great voice and can actually sing live, can’t really say the same for most pop stars. I wish she would release an acoustic album though, her acoustic performances are where she really shines.

I can honestly say I have never heard a Rita Ora song. At least knowing it was her. I cut out the radio years ago. Got tired of them always playing the same five popular songs on repeat. No matter the station. I didn’t even know who Lorde was until I saw her perform at the Grammys.
She looks drugged out of her mind. I’ve never been a fan of hers, so I don’t know how talented she is, but this seems like she’s trying really hard for more attention.
I don’t dislike her but girl needs to rethink her fashion choices. In the first pic it just looks like she is making a huge effort to not loose the top part, or simply parading a straitjacket. Is that Calvin Harris? Don’t know much about him, but he is hot!!!
It completely stubby itchy bothers me when this type of celeb shot is entitled “street-style” and the chicks are in giant pokey heels and full force make up. Let’s call it “called the paps” photo op. If it’s really how these ladies dress when putting out the trash or whatever, it reminds me of that crazy aunty (everyone knows one) … who is the imaginary “star of the show” and changes outfits multiple times a day complete with matchy make-up. For me it’s sad and disturbing.

Even with the crazy outfits I like her. and I love her voice. And she’s mostly her original self and not plastic cray cray Gaga level yet so let’s see how this unfolds.

I agree. I lover her and her voice. She doesn’t annoy me as much as Gaga did when she wore crazy clothes bc Rita is always smiling & she looks like she’s having fun. Gaga always looked like she took herself so seriously & that was a turn off for me.
She banged Rob Kardashian, Gaga has never done that for attention.

But she’s a good singer. Have you ever heard her sing live? Much better than Rihanna.
If you google her from a few years ago she had this very chic look, she was more like a Beyonce clone, but when she came out they pushed the Rihanna/Gwen Stefani edge on her.

I really don’t understand why people say Rita is a poor man’s Rihanna. I love Rihanna and she’s a beautiful woman, but it’s not like she’s some amazing talent to emulate. When she first came out, people called her budget Beyonce. It wasn’t until her 3rd album that she developed her style and came into her own. I don’t think we need to always compare female singers. Beyonce is Beyonce, Rihanna is Rihanna, and Rita is Rita.

You make some valid points but that’s the vibe I’ve always gotten from her, and when I call her that, I’m referring to a lack of star power, she’s got a great voice but she’s losing momentum as a star and she hasn’t tried to make her talent the focus of her career/public persona. So I’m gonna keep calling her budget Rihanna cuz that’s the only thing that’s memorable about her imo 😉

I have NO idea why but I always thought Rita was of mixed African descent (just very fair skinned)… but she is of Yugoslavian descent… mind warped!! There was no doubt in my mind… (not that I thought about it really…)
Not Yugoslavia, she is from Kosovo. Kosovo used to be Albanian but not long ago they earned their freedom.

She has such a nice figure though.. I find it baffling that she CHOOSES to wear that crap day after day.
Her roots are from Kosovo and albanian girls (and kosovan girls) love to wear flashy and colorful clothes and sparkly jewelry so I guess that’s part of her culture.. but still she often dresses like she picked her clothes from a pitch black wardrobe.
That’s true about Albanian women in general. They like to look super sexy and put together with lot of shinny things even in the middle of the day but certainly not at this level . As for her actually she’s been raised in UK for almost all her life. Have you seen how they dress and put their make up on. Also don’t forget that she is dressed to impress. I would bet money she has a personal dresser payed by her Recording Company to project an image. Let’s not pretend they are put there on their on to do whatever they want. It’s an industry, they have to shock and to deliver or else……

she used to date rob kardashian, i didn’t understand why he got so much hate for calling her out for cheating on him.
He admitted that he lied about how many guys she cheated on him with. His excuse was something along the lines of “I wanted to mess things up so we never get back together”. What he did was tacky and immature.

I sort of stalk her and Calvin’s instagrams and whenever they do post the slightest thing alluding to their relationship it is so cute (yeah it is sad and I need a life lol) . I remember how they had a big fight on twitter over a song before they ever really met each other/ they hated each other and then it all went away when some reporter told him that Rita thought he was hot (and he is!!) and now they are together. I never really saw it coming but I hope they last because some of the Calvin Harris crazy fans do nothing but bash her for every little thing and comment on all their photos how he should be with Ellie Gouldling.
Lol. Some “fans” are so weird. If they really liked Calvin, they should just let him be with whoever he wants to be with. Rita obviously makes him happy. I bet those same people would start to hate Ellie Goulding if he actually went out with her.
