Roger Federer & wife Mirka welcome their second set of twins, Leo & Lenny

I love Roger Federer. I’m not obsessive about him or anything, but I do tend to linger over Federer photos, and if he’s playing, I’ll watch. Some say Roger is past his prime. Perhaps. But he’s still got a lot of game left. One of the reasons I love Roger is because he actually seems like a decent guy who loves his wife, Mirka Vavrinec. Mirka sort of works as his tour manager/roadie/biggest champion – she travels with him everywhere and they just seem to adore each other. In July 2009, Mirka gave birth to their first children, twin girls Charlene Riva and Myla Rose. And now Roger & Mirka have welcomed another set of twins!

Make that a table for six! Swiss tennis pro Roger Federer and his wife, former tennis pro Mirka Vavrinec, welcomed their second set of twins on Tuesday, May 6. The athlete took to his Twitter to announce that his daughters, twin sisters Myla Rose and Charlene Riva, now have twin brothers.

“Mirka and I are so incredibly happy to share that Leo and Lenny were born this evening,” Federer tweeted, along with the hashtags “#TwinsAgain” and “#Miracle.”

The anticipated arrival of his sons prompted the 32-year-old to withdraw from this week’s Madrid Open just yesterday, May 5.

In a Facebook post, the pro and caring father announced: “I’ve decided to withdraw from Madrid to be with my wife Mirka during these next few exciting weeks for our family. I apologize to my fans and hope to be back in Madrid next year. I’ll be training near my home, and am excited to rejoin the Tour soon!”

Federer and Vavrinec met while competing in the Summer Olympics in Sydney in 2000 and married in 2009.

Congrats to Roger & Mirka! I can’t even imagine double twins. Two sets, completely equal. At least they got some time between twinsies – Charlene and Myla will be what? Five years old in July. That’s a decent pace. What are the thoughts on the names? Leo and Lenny – very alliterative, and I hope those are just the nicknames. Would the real names be Leonardo Federer and Leonard Federer? That would get confusing.

Also – how much do you love Roger for basically taking paternity leave from the circuit to stay with his wife?

Wow.Two sets of twins.Good luck with that.

  2. GeeMoney says:

Two more twins?!?!? Oh boy. As long as it doesn’t affect him bringing it at the French Open in a few weeks, I’m happy for him.

  3. daisyfly says:

Leave it to a tennis champ to have his kids in sets.

  4. aenflex says:

Happy for them but would not want their situation, even with wealth. Two times two is too much.

  5. Penny says:

    Congrats to them!

However as for paternity leave, at this stage of his career it’s a very good idea to skip a large part of the clay portion of the tour. He doesn’t want to rack up too many more losses to Nadal and Djokovic. Unless Nadal has to leave the tour before him I think we’ll keep seeing him finding a way to skip most of it each year.

  6. Helvetica says:

I love Federer. Congrats to them. Two sets? Truly amazing.

  7. Jegede says:

Federer friends with Leo Dicaprio and has often checked him as his favourite actor.
So maybe that’s were it comes from

  8. Meg says:

So happy for them. Love him, such a gentleman.

  9. Samtha says:

Future women’s and men’s doubles (and mixed doubles) champions! Watch out Bryan brothers.

    • Tapioca says:

Wouldn’t it be great, right? A lot to live up to though!

I wonder if these two are identical like their daughters…

  10. Tiffany says:

I am exhausted for them. All in all, Congrats!!!!

  11. lower-case deb says:

wow! and i still remember Mirka being like 8 or 9 months pregnant with the the first set of twins sitting 5 hours courtside during the Wimbledon Finals!

and now she has another set! on top of being Federer’s manager and… and… gosh i’m tired just thinking about it already!

  12. louise sawyer says:

    Awww!
So happy for both of them.

Btw: Lenny and Leo are no nicknames.
They’re both common names here in good ol’ Switzerland and often used.

  13. Feebee says:

Awesome news for them. Congratulations. I think playing in the French will be a hard decision.

Methinks someone is going to be getting a vasectomy soon.

  15. ToodySezHey says:

Mirka isn’t Rogers mgr anymore. She used to be but then he signed with IMG.

    • Lisa says:

Actually, he and Tony Godsick, who left IMG in 2012, started their own management firm, Team8, at the end of 2013. At least that’s what Sports Illustrated reported.

  16. Lisa says:

I was so excited when I heard about this. Two sets of twins!

  17. The Original Mia says:

2 sets of twins. That’s amazing. Happy for them.

  18. Lucia H says:

I think twins run in the Federer family. His sister also has a set of twins. Can you imagine being the grandparents and having 6 grandchildren of 3 sets of twins. What are the odds?!

  19. Penelope says:

    I love this classy man.

  20. almondey says:

    i love two things:

    1. that this story popped up on celebitchy because roger federer is a forever dong in my book on account of my manic levels of tennis fandom;

    2. that fedex is getting this kind of love from the celebitchy community!

congrats to him and Mirka–even though i spend too much time of the tennis season being insanely jealous of her!

    • Diana says:

Yes yes! Huge Fed fan and so glad he is getting the love on celebitchy #toughcrowd

  21. Cupcake says:

I think it’s lovely that they got twins of both sexes. Personally when I start thinking about caring for twins I get scared.

  22. ChiaSeed says:

Actor Coby Bell also has two sets of twins! Can’t even imagine the amount of work that would involve. Congrats to Roger and Mirka!

  23. Anne tommy says:

I have been a huge tennis fan for a long time but never warmed to Roger. Far too smug, overly pleased with himself, and always ready with an excuse when he loses. And he has done that a lot over the last few years, his career record against Nadal is pretty awful. Good luck to the family though, I am sure he’s a good hubby and dad.

    • Diana says:

“…always ready with an excuse when he loses.”

Ah no? He always gives credit to his opponents when he loses, never blames the “knee” or whatever

    • Nina W says:

Roger is one of the most humble and amazing athletes in the world. He always gives credit and respect to his opponents and is one of the greatest representatives of the sport out there. He is not perfect, of course, but he is a gentleman and an athlete and I have nothing but admiration for him. He is well respected, even beloved in the tennis world because he is such a nice guy. Nadal himself would disagree with your statements about Roger.

    • lower-case deb says:

      new balls please!

  24. Jessica says:

Congrats to them! I just love Roger. He really does seem like an amazing guy and I love that he’s been with Mirka for the longest time and never went the model route, like so many of the players do. I am going to be so heartbroken when he finally retires. It won’t be the same without him. Fingers crossed that it won’t be anytime soon.
