Elle Fanning in pale Georges Hobeika at ‘Maleficent’ event: lovely or washed out?

FFN_Maleficent_Recpt_FFUK_050814_51405581

I’m concentrating all of the Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt photos into one post, but I wanted to devote some time to Princess Aurora, also known as Elle Fanning. These are pics from last night’s charity event/screening/something for the Great Ormond Street Hospital. The event was held at Kensington Palace. Amaze-balls.

Anyway, here’s little Elle Fanning, only 16 years old. She wore a princess gown that would have been at home at this year’s Met Gala. The gown is by Georges Hobeika. For her age and for the film she’s promoting, I’m fine with this. It’s costume-y and princessy, but it works. It also sort of washes her out, but I’m just pleased that she’s fine with being so naturally pale. I’m grateful she’s not a horrid shade of orange. My least favorite part? Her makeup is insane and it’s like they were trying to make her look sickly. My favorite part? The flowery headpiece.

Disney has released a crap-load of new Maleficent featurettes, teasers and trailers this week. Let’s get to some of them. Here’s a featurette with Angelina, Elle and the screenwriter.

Here’s a newly-released scene (where Maleficent curses baby Aurora).

And here’s the “final trailer” (or so they say).

What could make a good fairy go bad?” – that’s a terrible tagline. Jesus. It sounds like a Joe Francis production: Good Fairies Gone Bad.

I’m also including photos of: Jack O’Connell (who plays Louis Zamperini in Unbroken, so he’s just there because he loves Angelina), Stella McCartney (who is doing kids’ clothes in collaboration with the film), Sam Riley (who plays Diaval in Maleficent, and he once spoke about how “regal” Angelina is in real life) and Jimmy Carr and his girlfriend (Carr has no connection to anyone, he’s just a funny comedian and popular UK celebrity).

She’s just 16. I think the look is too pale and too mature. She’s pretty, though.

    • mytbean says:

I love LOVE her pale skin. She glows like alabaster. And pale skin, light hair and pale dresses always makes me of think of some sort of gorgeous ethereal spirit.

But (and I feel bad saying this about a 16 year old but it’s just how I feel) – she’s just not Snow White, fairest of them all, fairy tale princess pretty. I think Dakota is the prettier of the two.

      :/

  2. LadyMTL says:

The makeup really ruins the look, because the dress itself looks great on her. Yes, it is big and princessy but she’s still really young so she can pull it off.

    • kimber says:

Ya bad make up. Dress is pretty, but the whole look washes out this otherwise beautiful girl.

    • Belle Epoch says:

She looks corpsey. What a shame – she’s in the healthy bloom of youth.

  3. Aurie says:

Jack gets along well with Jolie. She & Louie invited him to visit the Louis Zamperini room.

  4. chloe says:

I love the dress, but the makeup is horrible. I think the flowers in her hair should have been bright colored to give the ensemble some pop.

  5. Ennie says:

They are going with the theme. IMO she looks very pretty.

  6. Splinter says:

Ugh, I have always hated pink eye shadows.

    • Nicolette says:

Me too, there aren’t many people who can pull it off. She looks sickly, hospital ready sickly.

  7. Original Tessa says:

I think she looks amazing. What absolutely lovely skin! So fun and on theme. I like how she takes risks and has fun with fashion.

  8. Claire says:

Maleficent cames at the rigth time for this girl. The movie will be an worldwide hit and soon everybody will know who Elle Fanning is. Dakota though 🙁

  9. Loopy says:

It’s a breath of fresh air that she is not caked out like the rest of the younger ‘stars’. Where is the aussie cutie playing the Prince Brenton Twaites?

  10. Mrs. Lecter says:

Not a fan of this, she looks more like a bride or something. But I really take offense at the statement in this post that Jimmy Carr is funny. That needs to be fact-checked.

  11. Meredith says:

the pink eyeshadow ruins the whole look. She looks like a pretty zombie, if such a thing exists.

But I’m happy she’s not orange either. I cant wait to see this movie

  12. blue marie says:

I’m not comfortable judging a 16 yr old, especially since this may have been planned. Jolie is the darkness, while Elle is the light. It fits with the movie.

    • mimif says:

With ya on the age factor blue marie. We should at least wait until she’s 18 before we rip her to shreds. (kidding)

    • Kali says:

I have a feeling that that’s what the styling is going to be like for these two for the rest of the press tour – play up a pretty pretty princess vibe for Elle and go darker/dramatic for Angelina (considering how much Angelina loves a good black dress, it’s pretty much business as per usual for her).

  13. Lucy2 says:

Don’t love the makeup but otherwise she looks amazing- like she just stepped out of a fairytale.

  14. TG says:

I can’t wait for this movie either. My rear is already in the seat opening night. I just haven’t decided whether to sneak out and go alone or invite my 15 year-old stepdaughter. I think I will bring her though since she should like it and I want this movie to make mad money for some reason.

  15. Marigold says:

I’m not an enormous fan of the eye makeup but I think the dress is lovely-with the caveat that all theses dresses need to be hoisted up properly. When did it become a thing to wear a sagging bustline?

  16. Frida_K says:

Oh, I think she looks lovely!

To me it looks like she’s trying to emulate Angelina’s vibe/look just a bit, which I think is very sweet.

    🙂

  17. We Are All Made of Stars says:

Why are they speaking in English accents? None of them are English, the story isn’t English, and wasn’t Jolie’s accent in Tomb Raider painful enough?

    • Seán says:

English accent is the standard fantasy accent.

Was Angelina Jolie’s accent bad in Tomb Raider movie? I thought she did a pretty good job. She sounded like the character in the video game.

      • Oh really? I always thought her British accent sounded weird, but that’s because beyond a few films, I haven’t seen a lot of British work. I always thought she sounded like she was trying really hard to sound British–but I never heard that she based it on the video game. That’s cool. Now I know her accent is real.

      • Seán says:

        @Virgila Coriolanus;

Very few English people sound that way. Although Lara Croft was voiced by English actresses throughout the video game series, she was always something of a stereotype of the posh, aloof English aristocrat.

        Here’s a comparison:

        Angelina Jolie

The voice actresses for the video games

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UwYy3f5pxQ

To me, she sound like she’s trying to model her voice off Judith Gibbons who did the voice of Lara for Tomb Raider II (1997) and Tomb Raider III (1998).

  18. bettyrose says:

I love the pale make-up only because she looks like a cartoon princess here. She’s in character.

  19. Lilacflowers says:

    Very age appropriate and lovely.

  20. Kali says:

Love the dress, I actually like the makeup (feel free to judge) but I don’t like the hair. Would’ve loved to see some kind of princess waves action happening with the flower crown rather than the ballerina bun.

  21. poppy says:

the dress is great, color and all.
the make up is, as is stella mcC, frighteningly awful.

  22. Nicolette says:

    Angelina. Perfection, just perfection.

  23. maybeiamcrazy says:

Jimmy Carr and his GIRLFRIEND? I don’t know why but i always thought he was gay.

Elle would look better without pink eye make up.

  24. Tiffany says:

Stella McCarthy should be ashamed of herself with those pants. It that is the end
result of her product she should be unemployed.

  25. Maggie says:

Yikes! She looks like a corpse.

  26. Marianne says:

I have a feeling like they did it on purpose. So she looks more fairytale like.

  27. Pepsi Presents...Coke says:

    Consumption Chic.

I swear people have been talking about this frigging movie since the days of the Peloponnesian War, just release it and freaking be done with it already.

  28. taxi says:

Elle seems to dress to emphasize her pallor. A bit of occasional color would nice, as she often looks quite ghostly.

  29. serena says:

Elle looks really cute! Age and theme appropriate for sure, it washes her out a little bit but overall it’s fine. And anyway, whatever she wears, she looks fine -good for her-.

  30. Jessica says:

From the look of things, they’re going to make Maleficent into a sympathetic character who does all the evil things because those idea totally made her evil, instead of the character just being an evil person. Annoying.

  31. eva k says:

I think pale skin is lovely, but not in conjunction with all pink eye makeup. It makes on look ill. She looks like she has tuberculosis.

  32. Lili says:

I like pale skin, and I think Elle Fanning is a true beauty. I also like the dress. But looking at the picture makes me feel kinda irked. I think it’s because the makeup is so weird- I completely agree that it’s like they wanted her to look sickly. Not a good choice combined with the pale skin and pale dress!
