Chrissy Teigen to Twitter trolls who label her fat: ‘Who the f— cares?’

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen is known for being very vocal on her Twitter page. She’s a successful model and has hit the big time this year by landing the SI: Swim cover. That’s a fantastic career booster, but some of us would be content to watch her tweet away and rile up the masses. Chrissy usually has no problem ignoring the trolls that come her way — she’s pretty good at trolling the trolls — but there are moments that get under her skin.

A few weeks ago, Chrissy posted some images from a new MTV shoot. They were pretty busty shots, and you can see them here. There was a major push-up bra situation happening, but the rest of Chrissy’s body looked exactly the same as it always does. She has no extra weight anywhere. Twitter being Twitter, some people decided to tell her she’d gained weight. Chrissy was understandably upset:

Chrissy has cooled down and spoken to People about the incident:

She’s a Victoria’s Secret Angel and a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover girl — but Chrissy Teigen still has to put up with people criticizing her shape.

The model, actress and wife of singer John Legend has a vibrant presence on social media and recently shot back at the inevitable critics there who pronounced she’d put on weight.

Teigen, 28, told PEOPLE Tuesday at Tyra Banks’s TZONE Foundation Flawsome Ball in N.Y.C. that she’s able to brush it off most of the time.

“The thing is, you don’t even want to be mad about someone calling you fat because who the f— cares?” she said with a shrug. “Like if somebody tells me, ‘Oh, you look curvier.’ That should not be a diss. The fact is, we live in a time where that is a diss.”

It’s not just the allegedly curvy who should be left alone, she says.

“It’s horrible we can be like, ‘You look so skinny,’ and someone’s like, ‘Thank you!’ That’s horrible. That’s equally as horrible to me. So the time we live in, it’s upsetting.”

While being a famous model is the best revenge, Teigen admits the critics are hard to stomach sometimes. “It’s funny to me, but sometimes when you’re having a bad day, it’s hurtful,” she says. “You just never know.”

[From People]

Chrissy has a pretty good attitude about food. She regularly indulges but has to keep her shape for swimsuit shoots. The truth is that most people are sensitive about their bodies. We can pretend not to care, but sometimes the criticism is insidious. Chrissy gets a lot of Twitter abuse. She can hand it right back, but it’s not surprising that some moments are too much.

Chrissy’s been doing the rounds. She spoke with Humans of New York about how John Legend “broke up with me once … for a day.” I bet it was that time she woke him up from a nap and told him Cher was dead. That was so mean!

She also popped in at HuffPo Live. She says she and John want to have tons of kids. “I swear to you, I thought I would’ve had one by now. So, hopefully we’ll just have this Angelina-Brad-type brood. I would love that … I definitely want a lot of kids, though, and he does as well.” The clip gets a little booby, but you can see it here.

she musta had some crackheads posting on there, there is no way in heck that girl is fat! good for her for telling them off. in all seriousness, it was prob some fat guys posting those comments. i’ve noticed that some fat guys feel comfortable telling a girl she’s gained 5 lbs. guess they haven’t looked in the mirror.

    • BangersandMash says:

      THIS!!! THIS!! THIS!! THIS!!! THIS!!!

People need to get REAL (I’m talking to men with mouths) about the way women’s bodies change… I saw some comments on an blog about Penelope Cruz at the beach a couple of months after giving birth, and guys were calling her the most horrible things ever…

      LETS. GET. REAL!!!

women’s bodies CHANGE as they age, as they have children, as they relocate from one country to another, as they deal with emotional circumstances etc.

And those people who were fat-shaming her are scary as f*ck if they have decided Chrissy Teigen, is fat!! Because then I’m a whale!!!

      • homegrrrl says:

NO, she isn’t fat, that’s an odd remark, but for the LOVE OF GOD will someone give her Michelle Obama’s discarded bangs. I can not unsee this five head (bigger than a four head?). This beautiful girl needs fringe yesterday.

    • Belle Epoch says:

Preach, SNOWFLAKE! Where did this woman ” gain weight”? In her earlobes?

The fat-shaming is OUT OF CONTROL if people are attacking this girl!

      • kri says:

I won’t call out weight on women (except the Frankendashians because they implant giant asses). I’m not really a fan of this girl, but she is right in this case. I’m sick of this weight shit-it almost killed me at one point. After I got through it, I was so grateful to be alive and healthy, I promised never to do anything like that again. Now I don’t look at bodies the same way. I find beauty in all shapes and sizes, and I admire a woman with confidence and style. At any weight. Confidence is hot, and so is being strong.

    • Stef Leppard says:

If that is “fat,” I’m going to go kill myself.

  2. Tapioca says:

Well SHE obviously the f*** cares, for one!

Yes it is mean-spirited and no, she’s not fat by any means, but surely she’s old enough to know by now that a Twitter handle makes a certain type of person crazier, quicker, than putting them in charge of North Korea and you either ignore these trolls or you delete your account.

I’m getting kind of tired of D-list slebs whoring themselves out to the masses on social media and moaning when they get anything back that isn’t fawning praise.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’m tired of all celebs, D or A list, who have Twitter accounts and get in Twitter wars. I agree with you. There are intelligent people on there for occasional amusement, but also a bunch of nuts on there who have nothing else going on in their lives. Why on earth would you care or respond?

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Yeah I completely agree with you guys but on a human level, I totally get where she’s coming from. Personally, I could never deal with all the scrutiny these celebs have to endure, particularly with their bodies. Pretty sure if I was famous my ED would flare with a vengeance and I’d look like Bosworth.
        So many triggers….

      • Ninks says:

The thing is, if you ever look at the mentions and messages that a lot of celebrities get, it’s horrible and relentless. It must be very tiring, to see reams and reams of hate directed at you, your appearance, your family, your career, your boyfriend, your race, your sexuality, your gender, every single time you go on Twitter. I think that even if you know it’s people trolling, and even though you know the best thing to do is to walk away, sometimes you just can’t stop yourself from lashing out. It sounds like she just snapped and said something in the heat of the moment, but that later when she had stepped away from Twitter and calmed down from it, that she knew she shouldn’t have responded and was able to laugh the comments off.

      • QQ says:

If I had these people’s money I would pay attention to us peons NEVER PERCENT OF THE TIME cause i’ve be too busy with my hot guy eating caviar and grapes and trolloping about naked in St.Lucia … is like they dont understand the concept that The dogs can bark at the moon every fucking night, The day the Moon Barks back EVERYONE Is gonna notice and say something about it

      • V4Real says:

Agree Kitten. It’s easy for us to say we wouldn’t bother with trolls because we are not in Chrissy’s or any other celebrities position. If we were I’m sure things would be a bit different in how we handle these types of insults.

BTW if she’s fat I must really be obese. I’m going on a diet. πŸ™‚

      • mimif says:

        Plus a f-cking million QQ.

      • Tatjana says:

While I’m sure it’s hard to hear those things, I think responding just makes it worse. And people who are not famous hear horrible things. I mean, I was fat as a teenager and I heard some pretty nasty stuff. But what can you do? Argue? I just learned to laugh off almost anything.

      • homegrrrl says:

The best part of being 40yrs and older, is how we escaped the social media in our unformed frontal cortex 20’s. I would have posted my purple pubic hair, and would never have met my future husband!!!

    • OriginallyBlue says:

Yes she does care. It is mean to make fun of people. I seem to remember a couple stories about her being a dick and making rude comments about people on Twitter, so maybe she should learn her own lesson.

      • mimif says:

She engages the trolls in a somewhat dickish manner, tit for tat kind of thing, and generally gets celebrated for it. Something about a hamster and a wheel…

      • claire says:

She often trolls the trolls, to point out to them what assholes they are being, or how hypocritical they are. But occasionally you can tell that she’s not just hoping to show them how it feels, but that she wants to hurt them back because they’ve really upset her. She puts up with a lot.

    • Ag says:

“a Twitter handle makes a certain type of person crazier, quicker, than putting them in charge of North Korea” – LOL. perfect.

    • Stef Leppard says:

Tapioca, I see where you’re coming from, but I think she has the right to expect not to be called “fat” on social media, no? That is just plain rude.

  3. Barrett says:

Sorry this happen to her, but she is a bit of a snooze…. Not really sure why you give her headlines…

  4. Izzy says:

    Good for her!

  5. GiGi says:

I am a big fan of hers – love her energy!

    • Lucy2 says:

I know nothing about her but just saw her on Hollywood Game Night with John. She is very energetic, and was all overher teammates. She seems very fun and sweet but I kind a wanted her to just calm down for a moment!
And it’s ridiculous for anyone to make comments on her weight.

      • Blannie says:

She was also really competitive – against John. Which was a bit surprising. He seems like such a sweetheart of a guy.

    • claire says:

Me too! One of my favorite people on Twitter. She is freaking hilarious. I really wish she’d do another round of drunk internet shopping. LOL. I wonder if she still uses that crazy egg thing!

  6. TheOriginalPuppy says:

Meh. If celebs want to piss people off by flashing their status in the mainstream media then it’s only fair that people piss them off in return by trolling them on social media.

  7. Helvetica says:

I don’t really get her. Why even make a Twitter post about it? Ignore them.

And also, she looks really cute in the last pic. She doesn’t strike me as particularly bright though.

  8. Hautie says:

Chrissy is tiny. Even for a professional model… the girl is slender.

Plus I am pretty sure, I weighed more at birth, than she does right at this moment.

  9. Delta Juliet says:

I’m one of those that doesn’t find her especially attractive but good God you have to be blind or stupid to think she’s fat. And let’s be honest, girl knows she’s got a good body.

  10. Lubyanka says:

Reading more of her Twitter feed from other places, I get the impression she isn’t a very nice person. Her Katie Price joke was in horrible taste. (I realize Price is generally considered ripe to be mocked, but her divorce isn’t something to make a cruel and flippant joke over.)

I also suspect she’d have no problem with fat comments directed at other people. She only gets worked up when someone dare say anything negative about her.

Also, her bragging about airplane sex was gross. Have some respect for fellow passengers or the poor people who have to clean up after you. Not everyone can marry famous to bump their careers.

    • littlestar says:

While I am 100% against shaming someone because of their appearance (although I’m a hypocrite on that one because my 3 exceptions are Kim Kardashian, Leann Rimes, and Lindsay Lohan), I do not think Chrissy Teigen is very endearing or kind herself, so I find it kind of hard to feel bad for her. Maybe that makes me a bad person. But I do think she is a mean-girl, who tries to hide her nastiness behind being “funny”.

  11. poppy says:

did no one tell her not to feed the trolls?
and does she really believe she is off limits if she uses social media to promote herself as a brand?
also, someone teach her a new pose. please.

  12. aenflex says:

Her body is amazing. It’s her face that bothers me.

  13. Boodiba says:

Twitter trolls are VERY easy to deal with. Delete & then block! Simple.

  14. eliza says:

She is certainly not fat in any stretch of the imagination. She’s a Sports Illustrated cover model FFS. Her head, however, is massive!

  15. Ag says:

she looks amazing. no person in their right mind would think otherwise.

  16. bored2 says:

she is looks like a tacky glamour model. and she has no grace

  17. Dani says:

Am I too young (or maybe too old) but does no one remember when she was a model for Alloy????? Those booklets that came to your house and they had clothes even more budget than Delia’s. She was there face!

Anyway, her body is insane but her face bothers me. Maybe it’s her smile.

    • hiddlesgirl85 says:

@Dani: Yes–I remember that. I always thought that she looked familiar, but I couldn’t place where I had seen her before.

I also used to loove getting both of those magazines!

  18. Mark says:

Woah so when people tell emma stone to gain weight is because everyone is looking out for her but when someone tells her to lose weight they’re trolls?

Don’t say you’re looking out for emma stone because she isn’t even that skinny and people are suggesting she has an eating disorder, how is that looking out for her?

  19. MsAubra says:

No she isn’t fat, but she brought it on herself since she likes to create mess…messy assed lady boy!

  20. thebutlerdidit says:

Fat? She has a beautiful figure! Despite the slightly off-putting toddler face thing like Selena Gomez she has going on, and her awful personality, why would anyone say she’s fat? I’ve seen great pics of her, everywhere.

  21. Dommeh Dearest says:

You care bitch since you need to address it. Obviously knows she isn’t fat, fishing for compliments.

  22. Shan1983 says:

I’m not ok with body shaming, I would be horrified if I knew my husband or children, brothers, sisters, anyone I associate with made comments like that. That being said, the reality is people do hide behind social media to make hideous comments about people they barely know, whether I like it or not. When one makes the decision to invite strangers into their space, they are accepting the good and the bad. Sure I can see how people would be grateful twitter and the like didn’t exist in the prime of adolescent/early 20s stupidity, but let’s not forget such sites have made many people beyond wealthy and famous. To share personal photos, to accept the modeling offers, to accept the obscene checks, there is a trade off. Should we demand more from our society? Of course! But I was bullied and humiliated as a child without social media. Many people were. Social media has just made it easier to hurt strangers, and in turn there has to be a better sense if responsibility. If people are shunning you and saying terrible things, there is a block button. It’s a choice to post a pic, it’s a choice to respond to negativity, it’s a choice to allow all these people intimate access. Mean people will always be out there – there is no reason to fuel the fire then lash out when your house starts to burn. so what’s more important, the fame, money, and adoration or peace of mind and endless positivity? Can’t have both in this industry.

  23. Annoying says:

Her face is not attractive but her body is truly insane. However, she’s on par with the Kardashians for trashiness. I believe she uses “controversies” such as these to get more Twitter followers, and she drops sex stories and talks about her more-famous husband to get headlines. Sure, she’s an SI model but she’s not exactly Adriana Lima or Kate Upton. I think she’s really desperate and annoying, and she’s not entertaining in the least. And yes, again while her body is insane, I really don’t know how someone who looks so average can get modelling gigs. There are so many stunning Thai models (eurasian or 100 per cent Thai) or Asian models out there (who have much more class). The point is that she’s not genuine and not attractive enough to be a model.
