Alec Baldwin arrested in NYC, ‘he went ballistic on the cops’ (updates)

baldwin2

Alec Baldwin was just arrested! In Touch Weekly has the exclusive photos of Alec being handcuffed and put into a cop car in New York City today (Tuesday, May 13). In Touch doesn’t know exactly what happened, but there was an eyewitness:

An eyewitness tells the mag the 56-year-old was “calm and quiet” while he was cuffed and put in the back of the police car, though another onlooker said he “went ballistic on the cops, screaming at them” earlier during the altercation.

“The incident just happened, we are waiting for details at this time,” a source with the NYPD tells In Touch.

[From In Touch Weekly]

If you’re forcing me to theorize, I think Alec probably got into it with another paparazzo (probably from the NYDN, maybe one from the NY Post) and there was some kind of violent altercation. Alec goes ballistic on the paparazzi on a regular basis, so this incident probably had a little something extra, like a fist to the face. Or perhaps some hate speech? All of which is so bizarre, because he married such a famewhore.

Update: Ah, TMZ says the arrest was actually “illegally riding his bike the wrong way down Fifth Avenue.” When he was stopped, he didn’t have his ID on him. Which is so stupid – do you need to carry ID with you when you’re riding a bike?! Still, that’s no excuse to go ballistic on the cops.

Update #2: In Touch has new info – a source says: “He was stopped by officers for riding the wrong way on a street. When the officers asked for ID, he got belligerent because he had none on him. The officers placed him under arrest for disorderly conduct.” The source says Alec got one summons for riding the wrong way and another for disorderly conduct. Alec is already out of custody and his rep claims he was “not arrested or charged with a crime.”

Update #3: Alec has tweeted about this whole incident, because HE IS A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL. His series of tweets, in order: “Officer Moreno, badge number 23388, arrested me and handcuffed me for going the wrong way on Fifth Ave… Meanwhile, photographers outside my home ONCE AGAIN terrified my daughter and nearly hit her with a camera. The police did nothing… New York City is a mismanaged carnival of stupidity that is desperate for revenue and anxious to criminalize behavior once thought benign.” It’s everybody else’s fault but Alec’s. He said MONTHS ago that he was leaving NYC for LA. Maybe now he will?

This guy needs some serious help before he hurts someone. REALLY.

  2. blue marie says:

Going strictly by the title, it sounds about right.

    • Moonlight says:

Lol. I just read a comment by someone on the Oscar Pistorious thread about how this is the week for violent dbags. And how a third person is bound to complete the Oscar, Solange trio.

    • kri says:

What is going on in the Celeb Universe? Has a celebrity rage virus accidentally been released by the CDC? Of course, Alec Baldwin has always been a mega turd, so this is not as shocking as The Great Elevator Adventure featuring Solange and the gang. Riding your bike gets you arrested….yeah. No. Not.

  3. Kiddo says:

OMG, that photo: Alec in handcuffs and the truck sign behind him, “Approved waste hauling” (with the storage part blocked off) as the cops take him away. Do you think the photographer was subliminally sending a message?

Is it weird that I feel sorry for him on some level?

  4. swack says:

TMZ is reporting that he was riding the wrong way on Fifth Street and didn’t have any id on him. Just saying (actually thought ROL would have the whole story “exclusively”).

    • Kiddo says:

Editing: He was on his bike, not driving. This seems a little heavy handed by the PD.

      • Wren33 says:

They probably were just going to give him a ticket until he went ballistic, is my guess.

      • Everywhere I’ve lived, you’re supposed to carry ID at all times. Frankly, it’s not a bad idea from a safety standpoint–what if you’re hit by a car?

So they probably were going to ticket him for riding the wrong way and not having ID, and he lost it, because that’s what he does.

      • denisemich says:

This happens everyday in NYC. I have never heard or seen a ticket being given. I would have lost my Sh** too! They knew who he was, it was an A*hole move.

Unfortunately this is as common as Jaywalking in NYC. I know one person who has received a jaywalking ticket and I am from NYC.

      • Jacqueline says:

Where I live (Texas), bikes are treated as vehicles while on the road. What he did could technically be considered the same as driving a car the wrong way down the street. I get so frustrated by cyclists who want the streets and the sidewalks both at their disposal. They want to be able to ride their bikes along the feeder roads to the highway, just like a car, yet have flagrant disregard for stop lights and maintaining lanes. I run a lot and avoid the roads in favor of the fantastic paved trail systems in my city – I cannot tell you how often I am nearly clipped by cyclists who give no warning as the zoom past me, while I’m already practically off of the pavement.
And he can rant about the paps and his daughter, but if they *nearly* did something, they didn’t commit any offense at all. I don’t agree with invading personal space or scaring small children, but it doesn’t give Baldwin any right to go around acting like auch an a-hole.

      • swack says:

@ Kiddo: Didn’t say he was driving and was just reporting what I read on TMZ. @Jacqueline, in Missouri you are expected as a bike rider to follow the rules of the road also. And I agree, I get so frustrated with those who don’t follow the rules. But I have also seen car driver’s totally disregard the cyclist.

      • Kiddo says:

@swack, wasn’t casting blame, just changed my opinion based on new developments.

    • Mrs. Lecter says:

I wonder if he had a few drinks… how odd. And why doesn’t he have a driver? Weird.

      • Suze says:

I got the impression he was on a bicycle.

I don’t know about drinking – it’s probably just pure hubris on his part. Rules are for other people, you know.

      • Lisa says:

Yeah, he was riding his bike. I don’t know about NY, but where I live (SF Bay Area), most cyclists already think they own the roads and the sidewalks all the time and think rules are just for cars. Add that to Alec’s less-than-sparkling personality, and I’m not that surprised you’d get this.

      • Mrs. Lecter says:

Ah I missed that part, thx for clarifying. I agree on the whole “rules are for other people” thing. He really has an entitlement issue.

  5. dorothy says:

His wife is constantly encouraging attention by posting pictures all the time. And Alec wonder’s why the paparazzi won’t leave them alone? Take a look at what’s going on at home.

    • Merritt says:

There is a difference between what a person chooses to put out there, and someone getting in your face about it. However this was apparently an altercations with the police not the paparazzi. He has serious anger problems and needs to take steps to control it, that is on him.

    • lucy2 says:

His wife definitely encourages it, she wants the fame.
But he encourages it too by losing his shit over it constantly. If they know they’re going to get a big reaction from him each time, they’re going to keep coming back. Otherwise I don’t imagine a photo of him calmly walking around would sell for much, and eventually they’d find another target.

  6. Nicolette says:

Alec Baldwin went ballistic and was screaming. Shocker!

  7. Mrs. Lecter says:

He has lost any semblance of sanity he had. What a loon. I used to love him, too. He was great in Malice. I AM GOD…
Oh, Alec. FWIW, I think his famewh-re wife goads him into acting crazier when she’s around. So much for the reports of her “calming” him and helping him with his anger years ago. All this on top of that chick who took him to court that he denied sleeping with so he wouldn’t embarrass his equally insane wife. These people are pieces of work.

    • Moonlight says:

Alec was Alec long before she came along. This is the guy who fought with paps on the day he and Kim Basinger brought their newborn daughter home. He has gone through sets where he refuses to speak to producers for the duration. By the way, theres a film called What Just Happened where De Niro plays a film producer dealing with an obnoxious and very volatile actor. The actor is played by Bruce Willis (who is infamously difficult himself) and the character was based on none other than………yes, Alec Baldwin.

Alec doesnt need riling. He is always riled up. Its who he is.

      • Exactly. I remember seeing an interview with him after that assault. He never referred to Kim by name, only as “my wife.”

That’s when I started wondering about him.

      • Mrs. Lecter says:

I’ve never heard of that movie, sounds interesting, I’ll look it up.

    • Sal says:

My favourite movie of his was when he played Hinds County Assist DA Bobby DeLaughter in Ghosts of Mississippi. The one where he sent Byron De La Beckwith to jail for killing Medgar Evers? I thought with Alec’s values and politics, I thought that he brought a lot of himself into the role. Imagine my shock when I learned that about a year ago he called an African American man the n word. I really wanted to believe that movie was a lot of who he himself is. How foolish of me, I guess actors truly are *just* actors.

      • Mrs. Lecter says:

Oh yes he was great in that! Yeah, it’s easy to buy into their characters when an actor is good at his job. And no matter what he says, I think Alec has proven himself to be a great actor. He just seems like terrible person, which is sad.

      • EscapedConvent says:

        @Sal,

It’s good to hear someone bringing up Ghosts of Mississippi—that is one of my favorite movies & I thought Alec was great in it.

Have you ever seen The Confession, with Alec & Ben Kingsley? You might like that if you liked him in “Ghosts.”

      • Peppa says:

I thought that was a great movie too! James Woods was so awful and creepy. I think Alec talks the talk but doesn’t necessarily walk the walk. This situation would have probably had a much different outcome had he reacted more calmly to the officer.

  8. MediaMaven says:

The famewhore wife is waiting just a little longer to file her epic divorce on the grounds of his “instability” and “anger management issues”. I’m sure she has Gloria Allred on speed dial.

    • Christin says:

Anyone wish to guess when she’ll pull that card? One year? Maybe when his career finally dries up?

    • Merritt says:

What does this even have to do with his wife? Did she force him to act crazy or belligerent with the police (or anyone else for that matter)? He alone is in control over his behavior. And if she is a “famewhore”, then what does it say about him, that he chose to be with her?

    • EscapedConvent says:

For a guy who wants his privacy, Alec picked a wife who isn’t helping with that at all. She basks in attention & actively seeks it.

Didn’t she recently post a series of pics of herself doing yoga poses in odd places all over NYC? I think I saw her attention-baiting recently, yoga-posing, in a laundromat or someplace.

Alec needs impulse control desperately. He blows up, then minutes later is standing quietly, meekly getting arrested. I have a soft spot for Alec & have always liked him. I’m not excusing his blowing up at people regularly, but I feel a bit sorry for him because something is very wrong there, emotionally.

      • Suze says:

She posted a photo of herself standing on her hands in front of an ATM, getting the money and receipt out with her feet.

        Not kidding.

Oh that Hilaria! She just hates attention.

      • Lady D says:

She has vowed to publish a different yoga pose picture every day for this entire year. Ya us.

    • Caz says:

agree totally. he’s being played by that woman. She timed it well. Hilarious.

  9. Sal says:

Ah, damn it!! I saw it on Google news and rushed over here to tell you guys. Lol, should have known. Celebitchy are always on the ball. 🙂

  10. GeeMoney says:

You know somewhere in L.A., Kim Basinger is smiling and saying “Told you he was crazy.”

  11. Sal says:

I don’t understand him. He has everything he could want. Money, fame (ok, maybe he doesn’t want that), 2 daughters, a woman that loves him, economic stability, success in his chosen field. What in the blazes does he possibly have to be so angry about? Yeah, paps I suppose could be a pain, but you either fight it, or accept it. Continually fighting them and getting angry and disgracing yourself in public won’t help him, what about his family, his loved ones? I used to have SUCH a crush on him in the 90s. I just don’t understand. If its depression, then I seriously wish he could find a medication that works for him as well as therapy. For his family’s sake, not just his own.

    • Mrs. Lecter says:

I agree – I crushed on him too; I don’t know what the true issue is with him. These all just seem like symptoms of something majorly wrong. I hope he gets help too.

    • Peppa says:

I had such a crush on him too. He lets his anger control his life, it’s sad. I get that the paps are annoying, but this guy rages against everyone. I don’t always have my ID on me to ride a bike or take a walk, and I get that it would be irksome to get a citation for riding the wrong way (even though he WAS in the wrong), but holy heck, reacting calmly would have made the whole thing go so much smoother and avoided an incident!

  12. AC says:

I guess he will be deleting his twitter account and moving to Canada again… 🙂

  13. Christin says:

Maybe I am in the minority, but I would be carrying ID while biking in case of an emergency.

  14. Suze says:

It depends on the local ordinance, but in some places you are supposed to have ID on you when riding a bike. You are also legally responsible for following the rules of the road, just as vehicles do.

I’m not sure why he was arrested, though, since riding against traffic typically isn’t an offense that leads to arrest. Unless – shocker! – he was so belligerent after being stopped, they just took him in.

  15. Can someone please remind me why Kim was supposed to be the crazy one in that relationship?

    • paranormalgirl says:

because she had her issues too. Neither of them was a prize.

      • I suppose, but she seems to have figured out how to keep hers in check. And they don’t seem to be as potentially damaging.

But I still see “Kim Basinger is crazy!” with no supporting details and a free ride for Baldwin, who thinks he gets to punch people.

  16. feebee says:

It’s kind of funny some will use part of this and complain of the NY police state needing ID to be produced by its citizens.

I’d like to know what combination of traffic infringement, no ID and possible verbal assault caused the arrest. I’m cool with it being justified, I’m just curious.

  17. FingerBinger says:

I guess I’m stating the obvious but Alec is too old for this. He should know better. Also, as a native New Yorker he should know, you never get lippy with the NYPD.

  18. grace says:

Take notice: the cops are WOMEN. my guess is they stopped him to give him a ticket and he went ballistic over two women daring to to do so. The guy is a misogynous.

  19. Hannah says:

I wonder if he dropped the old “Do you know who I am?”-line when he couldn’t show the police his ID. Wouldn’t surprise me.

    • Mrs. Lecter says:

I wrote about this before, but he should have just said: I AM GOD. lol. So amazing.

  20. MSat says:

You gotta be kidding me. All the idiot cyclists in NYC who constantly break the laws, running lights, going against traffic, not yielding to pedestrians, etc., on their bikes and the cops zero in on Baldwin? That can’t be it, there had to be something else.

    • Suze says:

If he was riding the *wrong way* down *Fifth Avenue*, that is flouting the law to an extreme degree.

I can understand how he caught the eye of the cops.

Why he got arrested remains to be seen, although I vote for extreme lippiness.

      • Bridget says:

I would imagine that berating the police officers is a good way to fast track yourself to an arrest. It doesnt matter how stupid you may think the law is, if you get caught breaking the law be polite and deal with it. I don’t know about N.Y. but in my state a bike is considered a vehicle when on the roads, amd expected to obey the exact same laws.

  21. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

The cop whispered that she didn’t like his hat – which is what set him off – he simply didn’t want a case helmet head (for which Hilaria would punish him by dressing up like Kim Basinger)

  22. dorothy says:

Wow, riding a bike the wrong way down a street in New York. I didn’t realize how dangerous New York was! Good thing those cops don’t worry about those other frivolous crimes like murder, rape , etc… so they could zero in on the horror of biking the wrong way.

    • Pepsi Presents...Coke says:

Why only go after the worst crimes? At any rate, they manage to find well and enough time to ‘stop and frisk’ a sizeable portion of that town’s population for the heinous violation of ‘walking while black’, so if Alec gets caught doing something that is actually wrong, the anguish of his ‘little white crime’ makes me shrug. And let’s not even get into the #MyNYPD boondoggle, which didn’t exactly reveal the plight of cyclists constantly under attack at the hands of their so-called protectors, so there’s an actual big deal they could address. As far as he goes, if Alec could drink, or get a prescription for a big glass of Quit Your Bitching Juice, all would be well. But that whole family is always running afoul of some authority or other.

    • Bridget says:

What if he causes a traffic accident and someone is hurt or killed as a direct result of him flouting the rules of the road? These kinds of things may seem petty to you, but the rules of the road are there to keep everyone safe.

    • Merritt says:

I’ve seen numerous car collisions and near-collisions due to bike riders not following traffic laws. I’ve also, as a pedestrian, been nearly hit by a few bikes, because the riders don’t feel they need to observe traffic signals. There seems to be a true entitlement among bike riders when it comes to the roads.

  23. PennyLane says:

You know, I can’t help but notice that the two cops that AB flipped out on are female.

And that flight attendent last year who he flipped out on – the person who asked him to put away his cell phone as the plane was about to take off – was female.

Add these together with the voicemail message rant to his daughter calling her ‘a rude, thoughtless little pig’, and I’m starting to see someone who has difficulty controlling his anger in general…but especially so when it comes to people whom he perceives as “disobedient females”.

It’s too bad – Alec Baldwin is talented and funny, but he really needs some therapy and explore why he has so much anger towards women.

  24. pleaseicu says:

He was arrested for disorderly conduct apparently. Sounds like he was just going to get cited for riding his bike against traffic and then left to be on his way. But the cops arrested him for disorderly conduct when he went ballistic on them when they asked for ID and he started swearing at them and got all aggressive.

  25. JuJuBee says:

Will Hilaria post a pic of her performing a yoga pose at the precinct?

  26. Jayna says:

Alec is married to a yoga instructor. I really thought he would become calmer and happier, finding love again and to boot she’s into yoga. He’s no better. And she loves the camera. He encourages it, though. He’s helping her to become a name, getting her gigs for interviewing celebs, etc., so not against it for sure

  27. qtpi says:

Yes the yoga wife twisting herself into a pretzel on the daily and blasting it out over social media is not an attention seeker at all. I’d believe him that he wanted privacy if he had not married her but someone low key and closer to his own age.

And if he didn’t sign an iron clad pre-nup he is a total moron. She wasted no time having a baby with him and I figure the divorce papers will be filed in less then a year(by her).

  28. feebee says:

UPDATE: Thanks Alec for the info, I might just send Officer Moreno a note saying sorry you had to deal with this particular a$$hole today and thanks for doing your job. The NYPD needs a little love after their #mynypd fail. LOL.

  29. Sam says:

Cops have a duty to stop people who are engaging in risky behaviors. If you can’t drive a car that way, you can’t do it on a bike. At most, they would have given him a ticket and sent him on his way (they might have even just warned him). I have no doubt he just nasty and confrontational and that’s why he was arrested. The law says you need to bike WITH traffic. He broke the law. And where does he come off saying “behavior that was once benign?” It’s not like once upon a time bikes were free to go against traffic all they wanted. Bikes must comply with all traffic laws – it’s been that way for a loooong time. He broke the law, just man up and admit it and take your ticket like a big boy. But he just can’t. It’s a hoot. Living with him must be EXHAUSTING. You just KNOW he’s the type that rants about stuff at home.

  30. Dawn says:

What I’ve heard is he was going the wrong way down a one way street on his bike. I see this all the time in my area and really wish the cops here would start picking bikers up and ticketing for running stop signs, red lights, going the wrong way on a one way, not using hand signals, not stopping for pedestrians in cross walks and so on and so forth. In fact I think all bikers over the age of 16 should have to have a bike license, have insurance, know the rules of the road and must wear a helmet. I know this will not be popular with many people but if you could see what I see on a daily basis you might agree.

  31. Stephanie says:

I remember him saying that he would leave America if George W. Bush was elected president. I’m still waiting… Lol

  32. aenflex says:

It’s a bike. I’ve gone the wrong way down one-way streets in Boston and NYC in a CAR. It’s fucking hard to drive there, to locomote there in any fashion. I don’t care for him, but I would’ve been pissed too. Why should I have to carry my wallet or purse or license when I’m riding around on a bicycle?

    • snowflake says:

so they identify your body after you’ve been hit by a car and died. makes it easier to track down relatives. i think it’s also required to carry id, isn’t it?

    • Godwina says:

      The logic…it burns.

    • Suze says:

ID is not so hard to carry, is it?

When you locomote, by bike or car, you need to follow traffic. You don’t get to make your own rules.

Well, you can. But there are consequences.

  33. Emily C. says:

Yes, of course you need to carry an ID while riding a bike in NYC. It’s a pedestrian city, bikes are vehicles, and have you seen the way some people ride bikes there? They can definitely be dangerous. Plus they want to be able to id you if you’re hit by a cab.

Btw, I bet they wanted his ID mostly because he seemed drunk or hammered or something. Plus he was breaking the law. Cops generally want your ID when you do that.

  34. snowflake says:

we all know, if it was anyone else, they would not have gotten arrested. but i’m sure he was a penis and that’s why he was. not just that he didn’t have id. and that was dirty, posting the officer’s name and badge number.

    BTW, GREAT JOB, OFFICER MORENO!

  35. Godwina says:

“DON’T YOU KNOW WHO I AM??????!!!!!!!”

  36. EM says:

Kudos Officer Moreno, badge number 23388. I will keep my fingers crossed that once again he will promise to leave the US.

  37. bendgal says:

Ummm..and ” What’s in your wallet?” Certainly not your ID! “Don’t you know WHO I am”? Please for the umpteenth time, take your threats to leave the USA and goooooo. Don’t let the door hit your arrogant, self-important ass.

  38. Dixiemink says:

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if we come to hear during their inevitable divorce that Hilaria is encouraging him to up his testosterone or indeed somehow ensuring he is getting a larger dose of it. All his behaviour points to too much testosterone, but he’s been on it for years so it is strange to see him lashing out like this now.

I really put nothing past this woman. I think she is a con artist and has a long game plan of which this is merely stage 3. Stage 1 – make sure she that she met and f*cked him senseless, Stage 2 get knocked up by him. Now she wants to isolate him from everyone and everything he loves and that includes his fan base – so that she becomes the only person he trusts. Total control.
And if anything goes wrong she just calls Gloria Allred to claim he abused her and/or kid which will force him to pay whatever divorce settlement she demands.
Seriously I think this woman is a very, very strong manipulator, a complete sociopath, and she has something to do with his suddenly transforming from benign asshole to total full on thermonuclear ticking time bomb asshole.

  39. melain says:

Pap stalking does seem more egregious than going the wrong way on a bike. I would be mad too.

  40. Liz says:

His wife didn’t rope him into having a baby. It takes two people to have a baby. A man has several options to prevent an unwanted pregnancy.

While one does occasionally see cyclists riding in the wrong direction it is not common in NYC. It’s definitely not as common as jaywalkers. They are the exception.

Alec is such a good actor but what an ass. He must be so hard to live with.
