Miranda Lambert in George Hobeika at the Billboard Awards: hot or trashy?

2014 Billboard Music Awards - Arrivals
Here’s some more fashion from last night’s Billboard Music Awards, you can see our other coverage here. First off we have Miranda Lambert in a bright pink George Hobeika Signature sheath dress. The dress featured a mesh front panel that showed significant cleavage. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a celebrity have as much of a makeover and image change as Miranda Lambert has over the past few months. She lost weight, glammed it up and looks much different. As far as I can tell she went solo last night, except for hanging out with Carrie Underwood. Carrie and Miranda debuted their duet, “Something Bad,” last night. You can see their performance here. Miranda’s weight loss made me wonder if she’s having issues in her marriage with Blake Shelton, as we’ve heard for years. Now that I see her performing with Carrie Underwood I wonder whether that duet was an impetus to her to slim down.
Miranda may look gorgeous, but this dress is a little understated for the event. I would have liked to see her in something more interesting and funky. It’s more of a cocktail dress and the shoes are very plain.

Shania Twain was similarly boring in a full length, full sleeve black gown with netting around the arms, neckline and skirt. Shania often gets it spectacularly wrong, so at least this 90s dress isn’t a catastrophe. She needs a new colorist, those highlights are bad.

In contrast we have Sarah Hyland of Modern Family in a sequin Emilio Pucci jacket and skirt. I can’t decide whether I like it or not. My instinct is to say it’s fug and overdone but there’s something bold and fun about it. Maybe this would work better without the jacket. It’s all very matchy. I do like her styling and her hairstyle is very cute. I like the trend of tucking and styling hair to get the look of an extreme style without the commitment.

Lucy Hale was in a bright colorblocked tea length dress. I like this dress a lot and think it’s a very nice mix of young and playful yet dressy. Her wavy, sideswept hair is so pretty and her makeup is perfection. Overall this is a great look.

Jordin Sparks got it right, in my opinion, in a black tight Michael Costello dress featuring diagonal lines of sequins. I love the contemporary look of this gown and the tapered neckline is awesome. This is a great dress. Her hair is excellent in braids and she brightened it up with a yellow purse and red drop earrings.

Hot pink should have died in the 80s.

But that is interesting and funky for Miranda, she normally wears ball gowns, I think she looks good. And I don’t know about her marriage but her weight has always tended to fluctuate.

Is Shania wearing extensions? I don’t mind the top part of her hair but not a fan of the bottom.

    • YummyMummy says:

I think she must have some bad extensions in there. She is in her 40s, waist length hair is not for her anymore!

  3. Audrey says:

I love Lucy Hale. She’s way too pretty. Love the dress too

  4. Helvetica says:

That pink outfit/hair looks very suburban mall housewife. Could pass a costume.

Not into Jordin Sparks’ tattoo–it looks trashy (its placement near her ear).

Lucy Hale looks cute but the dress ages her. I wish she’d switch up her style some.

    • Arock says:

The hair is awful, one side up with a barret/one down thing seems very jr high 1992. The dress makes her look like baby spice. Please get a new dress.
Shania twains hair was a mess, it’s time to bury those extentions. I can’t believe there aren’t any pics of Carrie Bradshaw posted! She was the most trifling of all the country signers- the make up/hair is awful.
      Sara hyland looks cute.

    • feebee says:

Ha ha, jeez what suburbs do you live in?

  5. YummyMummy says:

Lucy looks great! Shania needs help. She is beautiful but hair and dress are awful, not flattering at all. Miranda looks good but that dress called for different shoes.

  6. Jac says:

Can’t a woman just lose weight for herself without folks questioning the state of her marriage? She’s hardly frail or wasting away…

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

      +1

Thankyou for this. Not every woman’s identity is wrapped up in what she thinks will keep her man happy. Miranda Lambert is an extremely personable, successful & talented grownass woman in her own right. From what I’ve heard from her in interviews she decided on her own that she needed a change & wanted to feel good about herself (she was also a guest judge on Project Runway awhile back & I wonder if that gave her a lil nudge too). I had my own self-image epiphany after I had my 3rd baby over a year ago. I decided I didn’t like the extra weight, wrinkles & loss of energy and wanted to be more active in my health and aging process. My husband doesn’t care if I weigh 100lbs or 200lbs, but I do.

      • Lara K says:

I think Blake definitely cares, an it’s not like Miranda would state that publicly. “Doing it for myself” sounds much better for the press.
That being said, she looks healthy and strong, so good for her. Once she dumps the 200 pounds of drunken husband she will be even better off.
Notice how much happier she looks in these photos when Blake is not next to her !

  7. Snazzy says:

I know Shania often gets it wrong style-wise but despite that I still think she is one gorgeous lady !

    • Blannie says:

Me too! She’s getting trashed on this thread, but I think she’s a beautiful woman, extensions or not.

  8. Kristen says:

    Jordin looks so pretty!

  9. Dawn says:

I think this is one the few times that everyone looks fine rather than one or two who just miss the boat completely. I think that hot pink looks great on Miranda and that style of dress shows off her bod more than she usually does.

  10. Lara K says:

Miranda looks great, but I sure miss her previous style.
I love her on the cover of Women’s health – she looked healthy and girl next door.
Here she looks like she’s trying too hard to be relevant. It’s not a makeover – she’s practically become a different person. Pity.

  11. feebee says:

I kind of like Miranda’s dress… the shoes needed to keep the fun vibe though, they’re a serious bummer with the dress.

  12. MeeMow says:

Miranda’s dress looks like something out of Paris Hilton’s closet and that’s never a good thing.

  13. Melissa says:

Look at Jordan Sparks feet. Her shoes fit her well…her toes are not hanging off and those barely there straps are hard to wear. I CANT STAND IT when women wear shoes of ANY height and their toes hang off the front or the sides.

As far as Miranda..she looks good…a little boring, but good. I heard her say in an interview that she lost weight because her 30th birthday was coming up and she had always heard it was hard to lose weight after 30 so she was trying to be proactive. I wondered if she did it to prepare for pregnancy….?

  14. Alexa says:

Holy Shmoaks – I’M CRAZY FOR THAT HOT PINK color . . . so, YA – I LOVE Miranda’s dress. The simple cut of it gives it an almost architectural/minimalistic modern look imo. She’s a real bun. Screw Blake Shelton if he’s not digging her anymore. There’ll be somethin’ better for her if he wants to go.

  15. TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

I’m sorry except by today’s low standards, she just isn’t that talented or interesting, and sounds like every other corny country girl. I thought the idea of being an “artist” was to be different from what’s out there?
