Cannes Fashion: Aishwarya Rai in golden Cavalli, Marion Cotillard in fug Dior

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has finally arrived at Cannes. Thank God. According to RCFA, Aishwarya’s flight was delayed, so she was supposed to be in attendance days ago. She hit up the red carpet for Two Days, One Night last night wearing this metallic Roberto Cavalli. Apparently, Kristin Chenoweth wore this same dress to the Oscars this year, which I don’t recall at all, so let’s just ignore that. We talked about Aishwarya a lot last year because just before Cannes, Aishwarya was bullied and mocked online for failing to “lose her baby weight” on the internet’s timeline. I hope people aren’t still talking about that. She’s a goddess.

More photos – Marion Cotillard wore this super-short Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2014 to a photocall yesterday. Thoughts? It’s cute and bling-y. Not my taste, but it’s hardly the worst thing she’s ever worn.

Then for the premiere, Marion wore this Dior Spring 2014. I’m sorry, but this is hideous on every level. NO. THOSE SHOES.

Here’s Rosie Huntington-Whiteley at some kind of promotional event at Cannes for Magnum Ice Cream. She wore Victoria Beckham Spring 2014. Is it wrong that I like this? Rosie looks like she’s lost weight which… I mean, she didn’t need to. She looks very thin. But the dress is cute.

All of the fashion blogs have been going crazy about Sonam Kapoor in this Elie Saab Spring 2014 Couture gown a few nights ago. It’s incredibly dramatic and beautiful – it would have looked great at the Met Gala, wouldn’t it? But this is sort of what I expect from Cannes – bigger dresses, more bling, more insanity, more fashion p0rn. While this look is sort of widow-chic, it turns the volume up and I like that.

Aishwarya and Sonam are real life goddesses. So beautiful I literally had to pause.

  2. don't kill me i'm french says:

Dior needs to fire their designer. He just does well the ballerina dresses .Dior became fugly since Galliano’s departure

    • PunkyMomma says:

I totally agree. Dior is rapidly falling to the wayside with it’s flat designs.

    • LadyMTL says:

ITA, Galliano might have been / might be a total racist as*hat but maaaan could he create some beautiful dresses. Ever since he left Dior has just been meh.

      • eliza says:

I am glad you said that. As a person he is despicable but as a designer he was brilliant. Dior is not the house it used to be.

      • jammypants says:

Same here. So glad you said it. I knew they wouldn’t be able to replace him. He was seriously talented.

      • homegrrrl says:

I don’t agree…Galliano was of the white trash= chic ilk…remember the denim bustier dresses, and the newspaper print dresses? They clearly do not stand the test of time, and we all cringe seeing these designs now. That was a whole trash in couture era that, well, I kind of had my hey day then in my 30s, so while I miss it somewhat, I wouldn’t all the Galliano designs beautiful or chic.

    • kri says:

Dior and Chanel have lost it for me. My god, Marion!!! WHY??! But that gold dress on Aishwarya healed my eyes. Wow.

  3. Lindy79 says:

She’s stunning. I remember reading all the crap about her not losing her baby weight.
Bunch of a-holes trying to body shame her.

I blame not only the stupid ones who pose in bikinis 3 weeks after having a baby, the magazine publishers but mainly the stupid public for buying into that shit!

  4. Loopy says:

    Aishwarya has stunning eyes, wow!

    • Eleonor says:

She has a stunning face. People praise Angelina for her magnificient bone structure, but seriously Aishwarya’s face is amazing.

    • Sabrine says:

Aishwarya is stunning. Can’t say the same for Marion. She looks awkward in her clothing, like she doesn’t know what to do with herself. The black shoes with the white dress are beyond hideous.

  5. Sabrina says:

All of the dresses are great except for the dresses Marion is wearing.

I really can’t see how one would be able to do anything but stand in that super-short dress. If anyone else was wearing it I would expect some sort of wardrobe malfunction.

  6. blue marie says:

I don’t mind the dress but I don’t really like the color on her. She’s a beautiful woman, I covet her eyebrows.

Lately Marion’s fashion has been a no for me, I don’t like either look. The second would be fine if she had different shoes.

  7. Indira says:

Sigh. I personally cannot stand Sonam. She’s a Bollywood joke and has her head waaaaaay up her ass. But her fashion sense is to die for. A lot of that credit goes to her mom, though. Can you tell I dislike her?
    Ash is gorge, as always.

    • A:) old prude says:

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii from another Indian and I completely agree with everything you have said re Sonam. The girl can’t act to save her life, speaks all her dialogues in the same monotonous tone and think people don’t like her as an actress because she is too good looking (yes she actually said that in an interview when asked about her critics) but girl loves fashion and have the best style in whole Bollywood.

      • Serenity says:

Yes you guys. She cannot act her way out of a paper bag and then to top it off, her terrible attitude. It’s really a wonder that she has any fans at all.
But I am female after all and yes, I too simply love most of her fashion choices…..I guess it’s too bad she’s a terrible actress and has an unpleasant personality to match.

  8. Hautie says:

I do not remotely grasp, why the fug peep toe booties are acceptable foot-ware with a couture gown.

First, they are just hideous in general.

But as least when wore with pants, those fug booties don’t look as ridiculous.

Poor Aishwarya… such a lovely girl. Who has been completely strapped into that gown with double spanx. Even now I bet she is maybe all of a 5/6. But they shoved her into a gown, that should have been bought in the next size up.

    • Loopy says:

Yup, look at her arms they gave her the Kim K treatment, her size is just fine but whats the point when you look visibly uncomfortable.

    • Tanguerita says:

exactly. I always wonder why they do that – no one will be photographing the size label, so who cares what it says? just go one size up and you will be and look comfortable.

    • Cidee says:

THANK you. Ash is a stunner, no doubt, but that dress is NOT flattering and looks too small. Such a shame because she is by far the most beautiful woman at Cannes this year.

    • L says:

Instead of focusing on her beautiful face and figure-All I could see was back fat spilling out the back of that corset. Ash doesn’t have back fat -unless of course you squeeze her in a corset that’s way to small. Just go up a size, she’d still look stunning.

    • lucy2 says:

I noticed that immediately too – she looks great, but the gown is simply too small and that never looks flattering.
I vaguely remember Kristen Chenowith wearing it at the Oscars. It’s OK, but the sizing is just wrong here.

      • CuriousCole says:

It does look uncomfortably tight. I think she’s strikingly gorgeous, but the circle shape embellishment right over her stomach is unfortunate, and the design seems determined to give her a non-existent baby bump.
I sort of remember Kristen’s Oscars dress and it worked better on her. Probably because it was the correct size.

  9. Tatjana says:

I’m not blown away by anything. Cavalli dresses look tacky most of the time.

  10. Tanguerita says:

What in a sartorial hell is Marion wearing? Dior should fire Simons, he will drive the house into the ground. Aishwarya’s dress isn’t bad, but I don’t like how it’s cut in the back, it looks like she had back fat, which she most certainly doesn’t.

  11. lucy2 says:

    Gorgeous women in terrible dresses.

  12. Mystified says:

Marion is beautiful, but those dresses belie the adage that all French women have style.

  13. paola says:

I really don’t know why Marillon has to ruin every outfit with fugly shoes.
Aishwarya looks amazing. her body is banging and her face is.. oh my god!

  14. Kiddo says:

Why can’t sandals just be sandals and boots just be boots? Why do they have to morph into each other? This fusion bugs me.

  15. Isa says:

Aishwarya has been stuffed into that dress. It looks like it’s giving her bat wings out of her back fat. She has a lovely figure but this dress does nothing for it.
It’s funny, sometimes I think she’s so gorgeous and then other times she reminds me of a turtle.

    • lrm says:

Thank you! I always think there must be something wrong with my vision b/c I just don’t find Aishwarya so over the top goddess stunning as everyone else. I think she is very attractive but overly made up, reminds me of sofia vargara in that way. I think Jolie is over the top beautiful, and Freida Pinto, for example. Aishwarya wears big tacky dresses and too much make up, is what I always think when I see her. Anyway, ‘other times she reminds me of a turtle’-lol too funny @Isa !

      • Nathrie says:

Its an opinion. Persoanlly I don’t think Jolie is all that beautiful like many people claim to be, and Freida Pinto is average looking in every way possible. I think Aishwarya Rai is more beautiful then either of those two ladies. Same with Natalie Portman, she is more beautiful then Jolie in my eyes but she gets so much hate on this site especially.

  16. Cecilia says:

Aishwarya…her face. She has the most beautiful face, ever!!

  17. Tig says:

The gowns are lovely, but agree the Cavalli should be one size up for a better fit. Marion C- bet she’s thinking “why couldn’t I just have shown up with a Dior bag instead of wearing these ugly clothes??”

  18. eliza says:

Aishwarya is lovely as always. Never understood the baby weight nonsense.

    Love Rosie’s dress. So cute.

  19. I Choose Me says:

Marion you’re a beautiful woman. What’s with the godawful pee-toe booties. Just stop!

    Aishwarya looks amazing. That face.

  20. Tania says:

Wow her face is stunning but that dress look a bit tight on her. Indian goddess!

  21. iskra says:

Aishwara looks great. She is probably one of the most beautiful women I have seen. She simply radiates style and elegance. She would look classy in a potato bag.

That short dress on Marion isnt that bad but it is not doing her any good. Those shoes are killing her legs and that dress would suit better someone younger and more “crazy”. She looks like she went to MTV awards and not Cannes film festival.

Dior is terrible. What the hell happened to it? Why do all the dresses look like badly cut curtains?

  22. whatsmyname? says:

So many beautiful women so many ugly dresses.
Sonam is the best one and she is doing Cannes the way you are supposed to, with a big ass fancy dress.

Marion those shoes are NOT your friend.

  23. vylette says:

Aishwarya looks beautiful as ever but that dress looks like its suffocating her. It looks like she cant take her hands of her hips! But the color looks great on her.
Marion’s dress looks like its missing the bottom half. She looks meh.
Love Sonam’s dress, but the girl cant act to save her life. 🙂

  24. charlie says:

Sonam looks horrible. I just googled her. I don’t like her face.

  25. Etheldreda says:

Don’t like Aishwarya’s look at all. The dress is too small around the upper body, and she’s wearing way too much pale makeup. Also, has she had work done? She looks really different here.

Not crazy about Sonam’s dress either. It might have worked in a more fun colour, but black is too sombre for the occasion and for that style of dress.

  26. Maggie says:

AR is sooo beautiful. So is Marion but her styling is awful. hate her hair like that!

  27. Skesis says:

    My god, her face.

  28. prettylights says:

I just googled pics of AR and seriously got lost for like 15 minutes…she’s absolutely stunningly perfect. That face, the bone structure – she’s a living goddess for sure.

That being said, I think she needs a size up in the dress. The top is much too tight/small and she looks very awkward and uncomfortable in something that structured. She looks like she can hardly breathe! I’d love to see her in something more loose, flowy, and goddess-like.

  29. itsetsyou says:

Not a fan of Aishwarya latest look. Her and Angie both have beautiful, striking facial features, but given there’s only 2 year difference Angie looks way more youthful.

    • saltos says:

Uh I disagree. Angelina looks way older then she actually is. Aishwarya Rai looks more youthful then her, even tho she is older then Angelina by 2 years.

  30. Jayna says:

The Elie Saab gown on Sonam is breathtaking, glamour, stunning, on and on. She is a vision in it.

Aishwarya is one of the most strikingly beautiful women I’ve ever seen.
