These are more photos from this year’s annual Cannes Film Festival amfAR gala, held last night at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc. As we’ve been saying, the attendance was far from A-list at this year’s festival, and while the amfAR gala was probably the best-attended event, that’s not saying much. Let’s just get to the fashion. Here’s Aishwarya Rai in Armani Privé. FLAWLESS. I would love to see her in jewel tones – I have very similar coloring, and I always get compliments when I wear burgundy, shades of emerald or rich, vibrant purples. Imagine this dress in that kind of pop of color – it would have been even better. Still, she’s flawless. Her date is her husband Abhishek Bachchan.
Here’s Georgina Chapman in what I’m assuming is Marchesa. Lord, she’s a bad designer.
Chanel Iman in Reem Acra. I feel like that tube top is really poorly made, which is weird because how difficult is it to execute a tube top?!
Here’s Leonardo’s current lady Toni Garrn in a designer called “Redemption Choppers.” Worst designer name ever. The dress is kind of uninspired too – it’s trying to recall Tom Ford for Gucci, but just comes up “bland.”
Dita Von Teese in Blumarine. I feel like this is a rare miss from Dita. I’m just not feeling those flowers – much, much too chintzy.
Bar Refaeli in Elie Saab. This orange-red is difficult for most women to wear, but I like this on her. The design is a little bit “old” – I could see this on Rita Wilson, you know?
Coco Rocha in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture. Hardly anyone is wearing Gaultier these days, so props to her for going for something unconventional. That being said… NO. No to the bangs as well. This is some Beetlejuice fuggery.

Aishwarya Rai is meh to me. I don’t get the hype.
To be fair, the hype is based on a long standing career and she is getting older now. She’s had the whole “worlds most beautiful” thing following her around since she was much younger. Her look now is more that of a mom and wife.

I wouldn’t call her ‘meh’ but I never really bought into the ‘most beautiful woman in the world’ hype. Don’t get me wrong, she is certainly beautiful, but I’ve always found her a bit doll-like.

Me 3! I always wondered what I wasn’t seeing lol. My tastes are not usually that different from others as far as finding someone or somethign beautiful or ethereal, etc. Jolie is beautiful, freida Pinto, cate blanchett always looks amazing and ethereal, etc. so I wondered how I could be so off re: this woman. To be fair, I’ve never seen her in a film [I think??? maybe I have and dont’ remember] -perhaps she translates on screen or in person. I guess this kind of thing is subjective. Certainly she is lovely, but never understanding this ‘omg she’s a living goddess most beautiful woman int he world’ stuff. I think miranda kerr has a similar look tbh-Everyone always says how kerr looks like a doll with full face and I find ashwarya has a similar appeal. Anyway, different strokes….
@lrm – I think you really do have to see her in person. If you look at a clip of hers from Taal or Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, she really is stunning.
I do think the “most beautiful” thing comes from the fact that she’s so light-skinned and has blue eyes; that’s VERY exotic in India, but probably much more prevalent in Western countries.
@ Irm. I don’t think Angelina Jolie is the most beautiful like many people say on this site. She is okay looking to me. Freida Pinto is an average looking girl in my eyes, theres nothing special about her at all. Cate Blanchet is very beautiful tho. That being said, I think Aishwarya Rai is more beautiful then Angelina Jolie tho.
If you have seen her movies, then you would see how beautiful she really is.

Ash looks great and since she is always wearing jewel tones and fancy saris in her movies I can see why she went plainer.
Aishwarya Rai is a goddess. And I prefer this Armani dress to the golden Cavalli, she looks more comfortable.

Agreed. Looking at her in that Cavalli dress which must have been 2 sizes too small made me feel uncomfortable, so I dread to think how it must have made her feel. She looks so much better here but like in the Cavalli dress, she’s wearing way too much pale foundation. That, or she’s had work done? Something looks different about her face.

Absolutely. I used to be a huge fan but now not so much. He gives off serious Gerard Butler vibes and she seems like a sad porcelain doll lately. I’m still angry that she was fat shamed after giving birth and even more weirded out that she is so rail thin now. I don’t know if she’s had work done but with the dark red lip she’s wearing she does seem to be giving tight Joker face in the pics. I really miss the fresh, radiant, vivacious Aishwarya running around dancing to Nimbooda. Youtube it and you’ll see how natural and animated she used to be, imo.
I lived in India, i remember he was married to another actress, years later i was surprised to find out he married Aishwarya.
HAHAHAHAHA. Rail thin?? She is very pretty and she is plump. She was quite thin when she was very young. Now she is on the chubby side.
@ Loopy – I don’t think that he was every married to anyone else. He was engaged to Karishma Kapoor. There were rumors that he had a quickie marriage to someone else before Ash, just for superstition reasons (she couldn’t be his first wife, for some reason), but it’s never been verified.
Aishwarya should have went for a dress in a different color. It’s so plain on her. While I have nothing but buckets of ill will for Georgina, and the top of her dress is saggy and ill fitting, I actually do like the concept a lot. This could totally work on somebody with a real flapper waif kind of body. Coco’s hair and shoes are very high fashion.
I love Gaultier. That is all.
Call me crazy but I really dig Georgina Chapman’s dress. Love the colour and the flow of movement. Also, she’s a beautiful woman and she wears it with confidence.

That tube top is tucked into her bra. It was probably done to look more fitted which begs the question: how ugly is it untucked?
Aishwarya is gorgeous but I’m not loving that dress, mostly the top half. At least it is the proper size though.
