People: George Clooney & Amal will marry in Italy (but not Como) in September

FFN_SCP_Celebs_Letterman_020414_51321985

Do you think George Clooney is having any regrets about this whole engagement rollout? Or do you think George still believes that he’s done the right thing, getting engaged to someone who is finally “his equal”? The thing is, George was happy when he was dating C-listers. Those women made him happy. He just didn’t like the fact that so many people criticized him for dating C-listers and former wrestlers and Vegas waitresses. So, he gave us what we wanted: a woman with a career who will challenge him and force him to change his bachelor ways. But I do wonder if Amal might be too much for him to handle – after all, she wants him to move full-time to London and sell his beloved bachelor pad in LA. So… there are warning signs. But for now, the wedding is going ahead. People Mag confirms:

He may have taken his time before leaving the bachelor life behind, but George Clooney is hardly dragging his feet when it comes to tying the knot with his fiancée, Amal Alamuddin.

The Oscar winner, 53, who popped the question in April, and lawyer Alamuddin, 36, are planning an Italian wedding set for September, a source close to members of her family tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue.

But don’t look for the bride and groom to exchange vows at Clooney’s beloved Lake Como. Instead, the source says they will likely choose a more secluded locale, followed by a party near Alamuddin’s Lebanese hometown.

At least one close friend appeared to confirm the news. When Paris photographers asked Cindy Crawford last week if she was in town for Clooney’s wedding, she replied, “It’s in September.”

[From People]

No Como? That sucks. I would imagine that most brides would love to marry a man who owns a beautiful, wedding-ready estate on Lake Como. And I guess Cindy Crawford confirmed that the wedding will definitely be happening in September (probably right around my birthday) and George’s people (I don’t believe Amal’s people are calling up People Mag) are saying it will happen in Italy. How… Kardashian!!!! Florence? Rome? Milan? Venice? Ooh… maybe the island of Capri. That’s where Jessica Simpson was going to get married, but she changed her plans. Alright, I’m saying it’s going to be Venice or Capri. That’s my guess.

So basically four more months of teasers and promos? I don’t think even the K Klan stretched out their BS that far in advance. Will Jay-Z and Bey be in attendance? lol

    • Helvetica says:

I am getting bored of it already.

      • Olenna says:

Ditto. And, I don’t find her all that appealing, attractive or interesting in the first place. What will be interesting is watching the desperate attempts by the media/press to sustain the public’s interest. If they haven’t dug up some dirt by now, they’ll have to resort to sensationalizing some minor indiscretion or personality flaw.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

Yawn-who cares anymore but them and their hangers on? I do care about the marriage being a mistake, but that’s a separate issue.

    • anna says:

Getting married in Italy doesn’t feel right after the kardashians had their show.

    • whoozy says:

Psychic me posted the 2 locale goop on the London story, so here goes again..Will be in Venice, end of September (Rosh Hashanah). Her size 000 dress is being taken in as I write this.

  2. Kaye says:

I want that periwinkle outfit that she’s wearing.

  3. blue marie says:

“a secluded locale” with paps there to take the pictures for People..

    • M.A.F. says:

Yep. Because the giant tent they will put up won’t be a dead give away that screams “THIS IS THE WEDDING AREA, PLEASE NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY!”

  4. Lucretia says:

I wonder if he realized how often she would call the paps? He seems to be someone who likes a controlled relationship with the press, on his terms, and according to his narrative. Suddenly we have a girlfriend who is photographed everywhere and is, I suppose, a “celebrity” in her own right. She’ll turn the two of them into the Kardashians, if he doesn’t get some control over this.

    • marjalane says:

I never “loved” George Clooney, but I always respected him for being better than this sort of People magazine cluster circus. He might of well have stayed with Eva Longoria if he’s going to splash his business on People every week! He’s making me cringe.

      • Sabrine says:

Amal is not a celebrity and certainly not a “call the paps” kind of person. She’s not trying to promote her next movie by garnering more publicity. That’s just ridiculous to say she phones the paps. And George doesn’t either. It’s not his thing at all.

      • Daffy says:

        Sabrine, you’re naive

      • Daffy says:

George Clooney called the paps in Seychelles, in Tanzanie and to Rande’s restaurants (for the pic of the ring and the engagement’s party) just for the last few months….It was HIS decisions, HIS actions. No doubt.
When he was with Elisabetta, he called the italians paps to take photos of her in his house in Laglio (he wanted to promote her and whitewashed her past) and when they were riding on his motorcycle (Elisabetta confirmed it in one of her interview when she was in LA). George is in control when it comes to his PR image, he calls the paps when he needs to sell a message to the public. George works in Hollywood’s industry. There’s no difference here except it is more public, loudly, obvious, contrived, fast. He wants everybody think that he has changed, he is no more a playboy but a family man now (political aspirations ?).

    • jinni says:

I actually feel like he is very much behind all of the pap shots of her or at least okay with her calling the paps on herself. For all his talk of privacy he and his team have been doing everything possible to make sure the public knows everything about this relationship. This is the guy that made sure People got a photo of their vacation at the Seychelles (not exactly a place normally crawling with paps) as well as a perfectly lite pic of them to show off the engagement ring. Than there’s the on record comments by his mom who has never commented on his relationship publicly ( at least as far as I’m aware) and now his bff’s wife Cindy confirming for paps that the wedding is going to be in September. Seems to me Clooney is perfectly happy entering into Kardashian territory.

    • kri says:

@Lucretia-don’t know if she would go full “kimye”-I think that he would put a stop to that prontito, but I think you are right-she’s loving this.

  5. eliza says:

But…..but ……but I thought it was in England at Downton Abbey.

Good grief. It is going to be the same circus of guessing, assumptions and stories planted like that Kimye mess.

PR at it’s finest. Keep people interested at all costs.

    • M.A.F. says:

Okay but with Kimye they were at least up front about it all and it was pretty much said after they got engaged they would get married at the Palace of Versailles (except they ended up changing venues but still).

  6. PunkyMomma says:

My vote goes to Venice. Amal and George in a gondola, serenaded as they traverse the Grand Canal.

    • Godwina says:

Not terribly “secluded” though, being a tourist trap n all…

    • maynot says:

Portofino? Isola Bella, Lago Maggiore? Some Positano villa? LI Galli? Some Palladian Villa on Brenta River ? A palace in a Tuscany village ? Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano? He might try to rent part of Caserta Palace, or Stupinigi or Royal Venaria. There are so many places in Italy where he can have all the privacy he needs (if privacy is really what they want). Even kardashians succeeded in keeping the place secret. And it was a public monument in Florence, one of the most visited places in the world.

    • Liberty says:

      Fano.

  7. Patricia says:

I’m here to pledge that I will not be opening another “Amal and Clooney” story until they get married. Unless the headline says “they finally got married”, I ain’t clickin.
I just can’t believe the crazy rollout on this one and it’s so boring and tiring and unnecessary and it’s ruining Clooney completely for me. I actually enjoy him in movies and I want to continue to enjoy the old guy.
So I’m taking this pledge!! Carry on, Amal and Clooney, I’ll see you at the finish line! (If you ever actually get married)

    • PunkyMomma says:

I may join you. And I agree, the whole story is ruining the lovely imagery that arose just by hearing the word “Clooney”. Sadly, that cache is gone.

    • Racer says:

I’ll take the pledge with you! This “situation” is so strange and like Judge Judy says “if it doesnt sound right its probably a lie”. Catch ya’ll on the flip side i.e. a different post!

      • bella says:

        Finally…kindred spirits!
I’ve been saying from the get go that this is a set up…
Curious timing and a complete 180 of a lifetime MO Clooney has lived.
        Its purpose?
        IDK.
Was he so humiliated by the Tina Fey/ Amy Poehler joke???
        Ahhhh
        Something JUST occurred to me!
GC plans to run for political office!
It’s not a ling shit, right???
He needs to redeem his playboy image ahead of it…
        I CALLED IT FIRST 😉

      • Francis says:

        +1000 Something just seems Off.

      • bella says:

        ooooopppps
        that’s “long shot!”

    • QQ says:

I pledge allegiance to this pledge Patricia… These breatheless reports are Aniston Level bad

    • aenflex says:

I like your comment. Sadly enough the reason I still click open Clooney crap is to look at Amal’s bug eyes. Compelled for some reason…

  8. paola says:

They just started dating and I’m already sick of them. Why an amazing right activist kickass lawyer would share this kind of information with the media is beyond me. I still believe she is Clooney’s beard and the more they share info with the paps the more i believe it. You can also love, live together, get married, have kids behind close doors and without updating every piece of info every day.

    • Lindy79 says:

He could have done all this (beard and all) and not become such a parody of himself, allowing stories of him running around like a lovesick teenager and photos to be leaked constantly. Considering he was one of the most vocal people against the press, even as far back as 1997 when Diana died, it just looks all shades of weird and hypocritical now.

      • M.A.F. says:

Him and Depp must be drinking from the same water cooler. I have always loved Depp and his movies but with Clooney, I always had one eyebrow raised and questioned if he really understood the politics of what he said.

      • Vic says:

Excellent point about Princess Diana. He was front and center.

      • marjalane says:

Only a matter of time before he finds a couch to jump up and down on, screaming “I love this woman”. My two cents is that it’s all a big ploy to win the hearts of all American women voters for a future bid at politics. “Elect Mr. Handsome Heartthrob, ‘who knows how to woo a woman'”. Blech.

      • Francis says:

Not sure American women will want to put him in office with her as First Lady of anything. It will take more than George being handsome movie star. She’s way too controversial if she really represented some of those clients listed.

    • Jules says:

ITA. She is a highly accomplished beard. The more Clooney tries to act straight, the more gay he becomes to me.

    • AmandaPanda says:

I don’t think she IS a kick ass lawyer, actually.

Her chambers profile looks impressive, but half of the cases she lists (including assange) she doesn’t show up in any court records (usually they put the barristers name on the case reports) so she’s certainly not as involved as she’d like to make out and she’s definitely not “Julian assange’s lawyer”

Plus one of my friends has the exact same specialism she claims to have and says she has NEVER seen her or heard of her – never seen her at court (she’s there every day), never at a chambers summer party, at a lecture, or elsewhere. It’s a small community, so it leads me to think this woman is talking out of her behind about her career.

    • Francis says:

She’s just as much of a star struck fame grabber as the others. IMO
Being a lawyer doesn’t mean she’s not just as starstruck, which I think she is.
      Not trusting this whole thing.

  9. Colu says:

Why do people think he was happy with the C Listers? When he was with them it was always “George looks miserable with her. There’s no passion.”
I feel like we are pitting these women against each other and none of them can win.

Ps I love this website and read it daily, but I had to speak my peace. 😊

    • Francis says:

He certainly dated a lot of waitresses, wrestler, etc, for a man who was supposedly unhappy with that type. He looks the same as he looks with Amal as he did with them.
IMO She just demanded and got a better contract. This is may not end well, everything is so fast, so showy. Something seems off. IMO

  10. LahdidahBaby says:

It’s funny, Kaiser, I’ve been having that same thought – that he went in too fast and too far, and now may be starting to feel a little bit stuck. I think he was pretty happy with the lifestyle he’d more or less perfected and “fire-proofed” for himself. Early indications are that Amal is not shy about asserting her opinions regarding how he ought to live his life from here on out. The Lake Como estate is really his little piece of Paradise, and to imagine him making London his base–well, that doesn’t sound like him.

    • M.A.F. says:

It has been documented through out the years that he is in Como during the summer and not much else. She isn’t telling him to sell that land (as far as we know). What has been reported is for him to sell his LA home, and honestly that isn’t any unwarranted request.

      • starrywonder says:

I agree. Clooney is barely in LA these days. Frankly I like her and I don’t see famewhore with her like I do the K Klan and Kanye West. Clooney must be down with this little glimpses since he knows that the minivan majority love this kind of stuff. My older married boss said to me the other day how glad she is that Clooney is getting married since he needed to settle down. Seriously. It’s weird how him being single bothered so many people.

  11. DanaG says:

Remember when George said he wanted his private life private…..someone remind will you? So it’s in Italy in September how are their divorce/property laws cause if I was George I would be looking into that, I think Amal has a lot of skeletons in her closet and they will come out AFTER the wedding. Amal seems happy with all her pap posing and she has taken all these vacations like a pro I didn’t think lawyers got that much time off but she seems to be on a permanent vacation.George better get one good strong prenup cause this one will take him to the cleaners.

    • Helvetica says:

      Agreed. It is SO weird.

    • vangroovey says:

He’s had a PI look into her — no doubt. She is the one who should worry, because that man’s closet is the one probably jam packed with bones.

  12. redvixen says:

Sorry, but she’s ugly and tacky.

  13. Fel says:

I am the only one thinking she might be a believer and still a virgin, waiting ’til marriage ?
And that, added to her degree and good career, could be the reason why Clooney is so attracted and willing to marry again after all ?!

    • Christin says:

I think it’s possible there is some sort of appeal or perceived challenge that made him jump into an engagement. I also think such drastic changes to his lifestyle will eventually wear on him. He’s been used to calling the shots, and I have a feeling things are going to be different for him.

If I were her, I would be concerned about his aversion to marriage that he has repeatedly stated.

    • Francesca says:

Def had the same inkling. It woud make a lot of sense.

    • lowercaselois says:

I get the same vibe. Amal reminds me of my sister- in- law. Her problem was a “Failure to Launch.”She is a successful doctor, pretty and was still living with my in laws when she was in her early thirties. My in- laws lived in a big house and it wasn’t cultural to live with them , but she got use to all her needs taken care of. She had very little dating experience and I never really got to know if she was still a virgin when she got married. She met a a doctor who was about 14 years older and he was divorced, nice guy. They got married, she still lives near my in- laws and they adopted a child. I think that George is going to have to get use to having her parents around and living nearby.

  14. firstwife says:

First order of business George – hire a stylist for her. Most attorneys I know don’t dress in pink or purple with ruffles and sparkly bows and mismatched shoes. Though she is young enough to be his daughter.

  15. Lilacflowers says:

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are still right; he’ll do anything to avoid spending time with a woman his own age.

  16. Talie says:

I still think the whole roll-out makes him look like a dinosaur. It’s very stagey and like he still think the media is run like how it was in the 90s. I guess even someone as self-aware as he is can’t be told anything.

  17. lizzie says:

I will be in Venice and Capri in Sept! I’m going to keep my eyes out for this…and Matt Damon.

  18. Abby_J says:

How does calling the paparazzi even work? Is there a 1-800 number that you call and say, “Hey! Just to let you know, I have it on very good authority that will be walking down Ninth Street at 3:00 today!” Gosh, imagine the actor who does this, and the press just responds with, “Eh, whateves” and doesn’t show up.

This whole relationship seems strange. Oddly, I don’t think I’ve seen a picture of them together in a long time. Admittedly, I really only come here for celebrity gossip, so it is possible I am missing these pictures on other sites.

    • Francis says:

Trust me, these celebrities have-their people call the press. It’s done all the time.
Do you really think all that footage just comes by accident. A lot of this is arranged.

  19. Daffy says:

New pics of the attention wh0res in Italy -Venice. (E!news)
She never works. She acts like all his ex-gfs.

    • AG-UK says:

Oh she must be working in that blue dress I can see some papers LOL or maybe it’s a magazine

    • Francis says:

She’s is acting like his ex girlfriends.
These two barely know each other.
      Contract just bigger.

  20. minxx says:

I just came back from a lovely trip to Venice – the wedding is not happening in Venice unless they rent the whole island of Torcello. Otherwise, WAY too many tourists everywhere. My money is on Capri or Sicily. Then a nice boat trip to Lebanon.

  21. nima1 says:

    Someone needs some white strips.

  22. lucy2 says:

I don’t know, I don’t feel that cynical about them. I think maybe I’m still so surprised he actually wants to get married again that I’m thinking he’s met The One and it changed his eternal bachelorhood thing.
I could do without the never ending publicity, but aside from the People stuff they haven’t really commented on anything, have they?

    • Jayna says:

Oh, definitely. If George cared what people said he wouldn’t date D listers just for companionship. And if he did get bothered, he still wouldn’t run out and marry someone. There’s no reason. Just date someone with higher profile. I believe at this time in his life he fell hard for her. He dated her for six months in private, so he didn’t care what people thought, like dragging her around to put the cocktail waitress story to rest and wasn’t putting it out there, oh, I’m dating someone of higher caliber now. He was pretty private about them, with only a couple of sightings, so private no one saw this coming. So George is beyond smitten with her to marry her.

      • aqua says:

I think that’s why he waited so long, he was married before and it didn’t work out so he wanted to make sure he got it right this time. The fact that we didn’t know they were dating until the safari pictures came out told me that he was serious about her,

  23. vangroovey says:

Isn’t Italy the place people go when they don’t really want to get legally married? It’s like the mecca for fake weddings.

    • Hiddles forever says:

If you have no Italian citizenship and no residence there, it is probably a fake wedding, yes. Italian wedding laws don’t even recognise (automatically) the weddings of Italians celebrated abroad, unless celebrated in their consulates and embassies.
Laws are quite strict in matters of marriage and divorce (Clooney should beware….).

      • maynot says:

        Not True,
You can marry and the Italian laws and regulations will be automatically applied . However, since in Italy pre-nups are not allowed, and it takes 5 years to finalize a divorce, I think he will ask some US Embassy officer to attend. In this case US rules will be applied.

  24. NN says:

People complaining about her style – What should she wear during her ‘off’ days? Power suits? I’m with Zooey Deschanel, I will never wear power suits! Pink, ruffles, unicorns FTW! F– Anne Taylor and structured pants/shirts and monochrome everything! I’ll wear whatever I want till the day I die!

  25. Miss M says:

He said once that he loves Venice and it was he first city he visited in Italy.

    • EscapedConvent says:

Ahhh….an AmLooney wedding in Venice?! That would be lovely. I think Capri for the wedding, Venice for the honeymoon.

Or maybe they should go to Versailles….

  26. Cora says:

Clooney may have called People to give them these wedding details, but let’s not forget it was Amal’s close friend who leaked these EXACT details to the Daily Mail a couple of weeks ago. So both Clooney AND Amal are feeding the wedding plans to the media. It’s even possible that because Amal leaked the wedding plan to the press a couple of weeks ago, that George then had no choice but to confirm it to People. Clooney may not be very happy that Amal forced his hand like that.

  27. Esti says:

Obviously they’ve put some statements out, but I think 90% of this has been the tabloids going crazy, not a PR campaign. George Clooney getting married was always going to be a huge story. Him marrying a woman who wasn’t really in the public eye before makes it even bigger, because it’s not like everyone was used to seeing thousands of pap pictures of her on a regular basis. I don’t think anyone’s calling photographers to get shots of Amal, I think people are curious about her and photogs are following her around of their own accord. It’ll die down in time.

  28. Jayna says:

I get he had to set up the first few shots to let the world know he was dating her and is engaged without having to do an interview, big announcement. But now it’s overkill. And I am tired of her smiling for every picture like she is so enjoying the pap shots. Come on, George. You’re ruining you’re too cool vibe and she’s coming across like one of your so happy D listers to be seen and papped. Button it up and make us want more info on you both and the engagement, instead of sick of it already.

  29. Francis says:

George is coming across like Tom cruise. It’s just thee doth protest too much. Sorry.

    • Francis says:

Was Tom Cruise throwing shade when he said he had no idea or had not heard that George was engaged?

  30. Anon says:

And if Cindy said it so casually and out there when she usually says nothings makes me suspicious and a decoy answer.. I dont believe Sept at all.. LoL

  31. mkyarwood says:

    Sounds like a compromise!

  32. Hissyfit says:

This relationship has gone to a new pr level! Sharing the month and location? George, why is the need for attention? You we’re too cool for this sh_t and super private. What happened? This wedding is going to be the new Kimye circus!

  33. siri says:

When receiving an award from the Elie Wiesel Foundation on May 21, Clooney joked about his upcoming nuptials: “I find we all have something very much in common, besides the fact we’re in shock that I’m getting married…” Truly surprised by it himself, or just his official confirmation, or a sign of silly, self-importanct PR? Was Amal’s friend’s leaking of this information ahead of his own PR? His first marriage also kind of happened fast, they had dated only a couple of month. It could be that he has a tendency to jump into this a bit headless- only to figure out later, that he’s really not the marrying kind. Talisa Balsam, too, was not the typical pretty face actress, but a rather interesting, ‘intellectual’ type. One can only hope he knows for sure that this time around things are gonna turn out differently. But if I read about giving up his beloved house in LA, I have to wonder. That’s kind of a huge jump for him. And that Cindy Crawford just confirms September like this, makes me think it’s gonna happen even faster. All in all, I have my doubts if he’ll be happy in the long run with this.

  34. Mabry says:

This is going to be a big change for George especially. Commitment, marriage, travel. I guess time will tell if he’s up for this.

  35. PHD gossip says:

I am stuck on the fact that anyone is buying that she is Julian Assanges lawyer. Sure – she might have done something at one time for him, but does anyone believe for one minute that a guy like Julian Assange would want his lawyer away from the office for months at a time?

  36. Francis says:

Someone is def calling the papz in her camp, some of her photos were done by someone’s in Tannas camp, the same person who use to seem to be at every Kate Middleton sighting while dating William.
The thing is Tannas assistant tweeted something about going out to get photos of her somewhere, before she got there…..so someone is tipping papz off and they are high level papz. Nothing but the best for Amal.
This is a set up. Imo

  37. aqua says:

The coverage of this engagement/wedding is ridiculous and I’m a die hard Clooney fan. I read in a magazine that he understands the ACT of commitment and that he’s willing to do anything and everything to make her happy and that his sun is orbiting around her moon. I kid you not that’s what it said and that he’s THRILLED that she has her own career. How much of that is true? who know? I do believe that he fell for her and hard and that from what I can see he only have one movie coming out in 2015.Maybe he’s finally slowing down and is ready for a change. Only time will tell what the other changes will be.

  38. aqua says:

Not Lake Como ? Maybe he doesn’t want the place tainted in case things don’t work out.

  39. Marybel says:

How many ways can you say the same thing? He: needs a beard, wants to get into the political/ambassadorial arena. She: willing to beard for bucks, fame.
He probably Tom Cruised himself some interviews to come up with this one and thinks he can play the game better than the rest.
And yes, he looks gayer than ever.

  40. Suze says:

These two have really kept it all discreet and low key.

    I admire that.

  41. Fue McCormick says:

I find the whole thing very odd. GC strikes me as the kind of guy who would want a small wedding with his close friends/family and whoever she wanted to invite (since it’s her first wedding.) The spectacle of a large wedding just doesn’t seem to be his MO (IMHO.) I also think it’s weird that she wants him to sell his house in Studio City. After all, he’s still a working actor and his work will keep him in LA for part of the year. I can’t imagine him renting a house or staying with friends when he comes to town. It’s also strange that he proposed after 4 months. They still have a lot to find out about each other. And considering the way he likes to “get up and go” I don’t see how she could hold down a job being married to him.

  42. Fan says:

    I miss the Italian Queen.

    • Daffy says:

Elisabetta is pregnant. Her boyfriend is Brian Perri, a surgeon. They met early this year.

      • Francis says:

Good for Elizabetta, maybe she should give an interviewing saying how she’s happy to be with a surgeon. 🙂

I’m puzzled, is this the “thing” for celebrities now, to have the wedding in one location, & then pretty much force your guests to go to a second location for the party? As in, herded onto a plane after the wedding? That is straight-up nuts. I wouldn’t hold my guests hostage like that but who listens to me. This method sounds like another display (waste) of wealth &……well, I just wouldn’t get on a plane to go to the reception, that’s all there is to it.

And Capri would be a glorious site for a wedding.

I am so tired of this…. seriously, all of a sudden splashing news everywhere about all sorts of wedding related (sometimes remotely) news… It just seems so fake… And then also, honestly, high flyer career my a**, if really she had this great career she would not be allowed to take all this time off… it seems like a massive PR setup, and quite frankly not even done that well…

I know it’s a departure from the subject of this article, but Clooney does have some sort of humor, appreciates a good joke, and loves to laugh- does Amal strike anyone as being humerous? I mean, talking about politics, and the world’s troubles sure can be interesting with the right partner, but somehow I wonder if it’s gonna bore him over time…the same way small talk and pranks wouldn’t be enough for long…

I hardly think his decision had anything to do with “us”. Grown men do what pleases them, not their fan base.

Wow. I never thought I’d see the day that I’d find Clooney flat and boring. He’s boring and she’s boring. Something about this seem off. I can’t put my finger on it, but I can see their marriage lasting long enough to produce a few kids, then she’ll walk.

DailyMail is saying he’s running for office.
    Someone leaked it.
Amal is supposedly his choice because she’ll help give him credibility.
    So….much….for…..LOVE.
