Robert Pattinson’s ‘absolute heaven’ is an inflatable chair, a pool & a bottle of rosé

The Cannes Film Festival was good to both Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson this year. Kristen got some great reviews for Clouds of Sils Maria, and Rob got good reviews for The Rover, and… well, Maps to the Stars got average sort of reviews. People didn’t love it but they didn’t despise it either. Anyway, Rob is riding high! He’s slowly proving that he can move past sparkly vampires, and for his trouble, The Hollywood Reporter gave him a cover. As I always say… I cannot pass up a Sparkles interview. I really do get sort of Twihardy when I read his interviews. He’s so charming and sweet. You can read the full THR piece here, and here are some highlights:

Auditioning: “I hate auditioning. I just can’t do it. I get so nervous, like cripplingly nervous. I’m bad at them, and I feel awful afterward.”

He cold-called director Harmony Korine one day: “We went to have dinner. He was really nice. But it took me a long time to realize I could do that,” says Pattinson of making cold calls to directors. Korine now is writing a script for him, shrouded in mystery. “He won’t even tell me what it’s about,” grins Pattinson.

He’s not really a depressive: “I did some interview a while ago, and it sounds like I’m a manic-depressive about to kill myself. And I’m like, ‘No I’m not!’ ”

He won’t talk about Kristen Stewart or her affair: But are they still in contact? “Oh, yeah,” he says blithely.

He isn’t materialistic: “I buy nice guitars, and that’s about my only expense,” he says, singling out “an acoustic Gibson J100 from 1943 or something.” He recently sold the 1922 Los Feliz mansion that he bought for $6.27 million about three years ago because he felt engulfed by its sheer size. “It was too big a house,” he says. “It was incredible, like Versailles. It was absolutely, completely crazy. It had this incredible garden, but you just stay in one room, anyway. I could basically live in a cell as long as I had a window.”

Film geek: “I was so into [film history] when I was a teenager; I thought it would impress people. But then you get older, and no one gives a s–t.”

Sparkly vampires: “It was quite a constricting character, in a way. You want to make [him] as dramatic as possible, but you have someone who never loses his temper, and so it’s like, ‘How the f– do you do this?’ I think that was one of the hardest jobs I’ve ever done.”

He hasn’t had a vacation in years: “I don’t think I’ve been anywhere other than for work. I have a fear of missing out.”

He hangs out with KELLAN LUTZ: [He] occasionally plays poker with Kellan Lutz, who’s considerably better than he is, to his chagrin. “It’s ridiculous!” he says. “It’s like they basically just ask, ‘Do you want to spend $500 to hang with us?’ ‘Oh, great!’ ”

His greatest pleasure: He recently was floating on an inflatable chair in a pool with a bottle of rosé. “I literally felt, ‘This is absolute heaven. This is all I require out of life.’”

His future: “I don’t know if I’ve really particularly found my feet as an actor yet — I have to prove certain things… I have extremely simple desires. I don’t need anything. I don’t want anything at all.”

[From The Hollywood Reporter]

Isn’t he cute? I understand why Twihards get all fluttery about him. He’s very much the kind of guy that I would have been crazy in-love with when I was 17-19. Sweet… humble, English accent, likes his beer and sleeps on inflatable mattresses. I banged that guy when I was 18 (minus the accent). Now that I’m much older… I’d still like to take him out to dinner. I kind of think he needs a steady girlfriend, someone who will convince him to buy real furniture and get him to stop hanging out at the Chateau Marmont. Who should he date? I hear Evan Rachel Wood is single. That would be something.

  1. PunkyMomma says:

Floating in the pool with the rosé – just precious.

  2. Yelp says:

Cant stand Twilight, love him tough.

  3. Nya says:

    All inflatable things are uncomfortable.

  4. daisyfly says:

Imma put him in my pocket and keep him for later, okay?

  5. caz says:

Oh he seems so normal… He’s glad the twilight circus has left town.

    • Anname says:

The “circus” has relocated to the comment section on the Hollywood Reporter article. Wow it’s bad there.

    • littlestar says:

He does seem normal. I feel like if I passed him on the street, I wouldn’t even know it was him. That’s the kind of actor/person he strikes me as.

  6. Sixer says:

I always feel kinda sorry for him. Not sure why. But now I know he drinks rose (hahahahaHAHAHAHA), I can just laugh at him in my usual obnoxious fashion.

    • blue marie says:

ha, it balances out the inflatable chair to make him feel fancy

    • mia girl says:

Well, since I like him and don’t want to laugh at him, I’m gonna just imagine it was actually Brad and Angelina’s pool he was floating in with a bottle of their rose in his hand.
That is pretty much the only acceptable scenario.

    • Sixer says:

Perhaps he could graduate to pink champagne.

Since he’s always giving off the depressive vibe, he should play up to it and drink gin. Bombay Sapphire.

      NOT rose!

    • What? says:

I’m a new fan of Rose´since it was all my neighbor had that was cold after we planted some shrubs for her. When you’re hot, red wine isn’t at all tempting.
Watch, the Jolie-Pitts will start a Rose wine renaissance.

      LOVE Bombay Sapphire, too!

      • mimif says:

It puts the Sapphire in the Rosé! No seriously, I really do and I just scored a half case of Miraval so I know what I’m doing this weekend. But not on an inflatable chair, pffft much easier to drink on the floor where I’m going to end up anyway.

    • Hiddles forever says:

Yes I always sort of felt sorry for him too… He seems down all time lol
Maybe he is just a normal lad irl…

    • Liv says:

I don’t get why you find it weird that he likes Rose. It’s the kind of vine you drink in France or Italy for dinner, especially in the summer. I think it’s totally fine.

  7. Loopy says:

Always thought of him of more of a beer keg type of guy.

  8. josie says:

I agree with the “needs a gf” thing. Cliche, cliche, blah, blah, blah, but he does have that single guy laziness thing. Someone who’ll toss out some holey tees and and buy real bed linens would do him a world of good.

He looks great in that photoshoot. And I like that he knows he still has a lot to learn and seems excited to get to it.

Of all the Twilight castmembers, Kellan Lutz would’ve been the last one I’d expect him to stay close with. Although I guess everyone does need those lighthearted, goofy friends who force you to socialize.

    • Kimmy says:

      Lol @ Josie….

We all know Kstew was NOT the type of girl to throw out holey t’s and buy bed linens.

I want to see him with a really nice, sweet, chill kind of girl. I think he deserves it. He seems like he needs a little TLC.

      • Nola says:

        @KIMMY
“I want to see him with a really nice, sweet, chill kind of girl. I think he deserves it. He seems like he needs a little TLC.”

Um, despite the holey t-shirts, Kristen is a nice, sweet, chill kind of girl that had provided Rob with a lot of TLC. As a person who was a fan of both; it was very easy to see how kristen nurtured Rob, took care of him and showed him the ropes in hollywood. She’d cook for him and made sure he (and his pals ) were taken care of. Admittedly, I was taken aback at the nurturing side of Kstew. Looking back on the relationship it’s clear that Kstew gave alot in that relationship.
But you know Kstew likes holey t shirts and isn’t overtly feminine; so she wouldn’t know how to provide TLC.
        :-/

    • What? says:

I was surprised by that Kellan Lutz comment, too. I’m glad, though. I kind of thought Pattinson was kind of secretly snobby and too much of an arty Hipster to hang with LA muscle-head Lutz. They both seem really nice in different ways so, good for them, and Lutz charging $500 to hang out. Funny comment!

      • Anname says:

Rob seems like the type of guy who is generally amused by all types of people, and can find something interesting and humorous in most situations. A poker game with Kellan and his friends, a trip on the Bieber bus, Beyonce concert with Death Grips, dinner with Vince Vaughn and Joaquin Phoenix, playing guitar with Dylan McDermott on cello, – you never know who he will show up with next.

    • Lollipop says:

Evan Rachel Wood would eat him up alive. Someone similar to Emma Stone would be nice.

      • Algernon says:

Brie Larson! I don’t even know if she’s single but that would be cute, right? She’s so low key and sweet.

  9. eliza says:

He sounds like a nice guy.

I actually wish he would find good movies to be in and shed the Twilight image and be a hugely successful actor.

    • Simmie says:

Agreed. I’ve always liked him and thought he was way too good an actor not to transcend the Twilight baggage. Even though Cosmopolis didn’t get the greatest reviews I still think he’s on the right track.

    • Tiffany :) says:

He does seem like a nice guy.

  10. Esmom says:

Love this, love him. The mansion story is funny, it is really clear he likes the simpler things. Such a refreshing departure from some celebs, who seem to believe “more is more.”

  11. shannon says:

I love this post. I’ll be the first to admit that I went crazy over the first Twilight. I’m still in love with that movie/book/soundtrack, but the rest of the books/movies were total crap (IMO). I think the first film had a very independent/arty feel to it and the rest of the films were just cash cow marketplaces for rabid teenagers. Let the laughing commence. RP even says somewhere in this article where he really enjoyed the first film until the marketing took hold. I’ll always be nostalgic for Twilight. Also – I am totaling seeing him and ERW as a thing.

    • Esmom says:

ITA. It’s amazing how quickly it all fell apart after the first book/film.

    • Nicolette says:

Loved the first as well, it did have a completely different vibe/look from the rest and that’s thanks to Catherine Hardwicke, New Moon is my favorite though. The original soundtrack done by Alexandre Desplat is really some beautiful music.

    • What? says:

Everyone online seems say to that, I think there was a change in Director.
It would be interesting to watch the movies to see the impact the Directors had in changing the tone, etc from movie to movie.
Alas, I hate everything with vampires in it (even Anne Rice) so that’s not going to happen.

      • Nicolette says:

Each film had different directors, except Breaking Dawn 1&2 which were both done horribly by Bill Condon. They all put their own style into them, which gave each a different feel/look. To me, Chris Weitz or Catherine could have done them all.

      • Anname says:

It all went down hill for me when the studio decided Jacob was so important, and Edward was made even more wimpy and sad than he was in the books. Taylor Lautner seems like the nicest guy in the world, but he is a cheeseball actor and the series definitely lost something for me after it became a Jacob celebration. The Rob interviews were always entertaining though!

      • Dubois says:

Eclipse was the absolute worst. Whoever directed that should be shot. The 1st one was filmed really well IMO. The 2 Breaking Dawns felt/looked like any other Hollywood blockbuster – lots of green screen. New Moon wasn’t bad. And yes, I’ve watched all 5.

      • Rae says:

Going to wholly disagree with some and say the movies got BETTER, the original Twilight was atrocious. Horrible.

    • shannon says:

      *totally

    • SpookySpooks says:

I only read the first one and hated it. The love story was so stupid, dear God. They sat together in a filed – LOVE 4EVA! And the fact that he’s a 100 and she’s 17 is creepy, but that seems to be okay in all vampire movies. His age doesn’t matter, as long as he doesn’t look old.

      • JessMa says:

Spooky in this series the vampires are kind of frozen in time. They don’t really mature. That is why they aren’t suppose to turn children. So Edward will always be a teenager. Kind of like Tuck Everlasting, if I remember it correctly.

In Ann Rice they do mature which is why that one character in Interview with the vampire felt like a women trapped in a girls body.

  12. doofus says:

well, make mine a bottle of good bourbon and I’m right there with him.

  13. Tig says:

Whoa- folks need to give rose some respect!! I was there at one point, until a friend gave me a good one- it’s summer in a bottle!

Liked this interview- pics are good as well. And the Rover is actually coming to a theater in my town in June! Pretty surprised about that, to be honest.

    • Vesta says:

I agree – rosé IS summer in a bottle. Chilled rosé on a warm summer day is a bliss!

    • mia girl says:

It is really hot already here in Miami and I have a pool… so between you two, What? and the Pattinson’s endorsement, I will have to give a cold bottle of rosé a try. Any recommendations?

      • Tig says:

Where I am, it’s been summer-LOL. As far as rose suggestions- give me a bit. I would love to try Brangelina’s, but at $23 on special here, that’s not a Sat aft it’s hot and where’s the water option!

      • Tig says:

Back with 2 recs- JL Quinson- Cotes de Provence( this at Trader Joe’s) and Aime Roquesante( again Cotes de Provence)- I can usually find roses from France bet 9-13 a bottle- the TJ one is $6/bottle. There are also a few from Oregon as well, but have yet to try those. Enjoy!

      • mia girl says:

        Thanks Tig!
I’ll let you know how it goes.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Thanks, Tig! I need to give that a try. I have stayed away from rose for so long since my late teens when I was drinking Boone’s Farm Snow Creek Berry
        :: shudders ::

      • Vesta says:

@mia girl – I’m up here in the most Northern part of Europe, so I’ve no idea what labels they sell in Florida/US. I would guess they sell Mateus rosé everywhere, so although that’s a cheesy suggestion, I think it’s a decent wine. But I’m similar to Rob – I’ve very simple desires 😉

      • PunkyMomma says:

@Tiffany – Boone’s Farm – I’m having flashbacks here. Oh God. Sickly sweet going down and turpentine coming back up. . .

      • mia girl says:

Thanks Vesta. I’ll take a look and talk to someone at my local wine shoppe. I’m intrigued now to try rosé.

Tiffany and Punky – I cut my teeth on MD2020. So gross, I’m sure it was actually battery fluid with high fructose grape flavoring.

  14. GlimmerBunny says:

Yes, him and Evan Rachel would be cute! I ship it now 😀

  15. Vesta says:

It seems that Sparkles has managed to stay down to earth. I like him.
Not a very strong actor [yet ?] but I’d rather watch him than, say, Leo di C (eww, why did I even mention Leo – he’s not a good actor/likable person imo).

Anyway, I wouldn’t mind floating in a pool with Sparkles and sipping some rosé.

  16. GIRLFACE says:

He is so adorable. He should date my little sister. I’m sort of excited to hear the Harmony Korine thing! I want to know what that’s about.

  17. Lucy says:

He’s so, so lovely, it’s annoying! And I have to admit that if we knew each other, and he showed any kind of interest in me, I would totally give him a chance.

  18. Jane says:

    ..

  19. Jane says:

I was never a Twilight fan, I fell in love with him after I randomly watched an interview with him on Youtube, lol. He is so adorable.

  20. OriginalCrystal says:

Really ? Kellan is who he hangs out with ? Of all the Twilight cast…That’s random as hell. Kellan seems chill but he looks simple. Rob seems like a typical Los feliz, walk-around-looking-homeless, only-listen-to-Van-Morrison-fuck-the-mainstream type of guy. Though I heard he knows Johnny Flynn and Johnny is pretty cool and unpretentious (despite his middle-class-wannabe-gritty-blues-musician image)

I can’t help but laugh at this guy, he’s just funny.

That haircut. I dunno man. He looked better in Vanity Fair when his hair was longer. This cut is just…it brings out the flatness in his face to me.

Of course he likes  rosé…dude just has the worst taste in everything. Seriously Robert, I try to like you but you make it hard with your flop taste. Do better. (Though he did go to a Beyonce concert so I give him some points there. If I can get a vid of him dancing to ‘End of Time’ then my Rob hate is officially out of the window.)

    • SpookySpooks says:

Wasn’t Kellan a chemistry major in college? Why do people think he’s simple?

And he loses points for going to a Beyonce concert from me.

      • OriginalCrystal says:

Um because he looks simple ? I don’t know about his credentials but I’ve seen interviews and he just seems…simple.

‘And he loses points for going to a Beyoncè concert from me’

        Lol ok. Whatever you say.

  21. FingerBinger says:

Robert seems like a nice guy,he just isn’t that great of an actor.

    • Mom2two says:

My sentiments exactly. Seems like a real nice guy, down to earth and comes across like the fame has not gotten to his head. I just don’t dig his acting. However, I will watch Pattinson in anything over the likes of Zac Efron.

  22. Helvetica says:

I really like this guy. He could be a pretentious a$$ but he totally isn’t.
Also, he has never spoken an ill word of Stewart cheating on him. He is a total class act.

  23. mary simon says:

This guy is nothing without the big hair. The buzz cut does not flatter him at all. He once said (jokingly) that his hair was 90 percent of his performance in Twilight. That was a truer statement than he realized. I know this is superficial, but I lost interest after he lost the hair.

  24. Janet says:

I’d like to see him hook up with Emma Watson. They’d make an adorable couple.

    • Anname says:

I can’t see those two together at all – I like her and think she is stunning, but she seems way too uptight for him. Not quite the right word, but I see her with a more serious type than Rob.

I have no idea what he is looking for. I would guess a more laid-back type. I don’t believe he was ever serious about Dylan Penn though.

    • SpookySpooks says:

I think she’s stunning, but she seems very high maintenance to me. He doesn’t.

  25. Dee says:

I absolutely adore the pic on the cover. Those eyes… so thoughtful and yum. The rest of the pics are also great. It’s going to be interesting year for Rob, movie-wise and I just can’t wait to see him in the Rover.

  26. PunkyMomma says:

The pics are lovely. They do remind me of Twilight – it’s the lighting, I think. All the shades of blue. IIRC a great deal of the movie was shot through blue gels to give off the “cold” vibe of the vamps. Rob really is so pretty. I’m jealous.

  27. hmmm says:

I think he was talking about experiencing a perfect moment. We’ve all had those. Having said that, he’s really not an outstanding actor. Without Twilight he would be doing secondary parts and remain unnoticed. So would KS.

  28. Dizzle says:

He doesn’t do a thing for me physically but I do have to say that I agree with the whole floating in the pool with some rosé. Except I’d swap it for vodka.
