Elle Fanning in violet Elie Saab at ‘Maleficent’ premiere: lovely or too mature?

wenn21403464

Here are some more photos from last night’s LA premiere of Maleficent. I already covered the Brangelina photos – go here to see. These are just some extras, plus some great atmosphere pics. I didn’t realize until I went through the whole photo set that the organizers had passed out lots and lots of adorable plastic Maleficent horns to all the kids who were in attendance. Even some celebrities tried the horns on. Oh, and there was a fabulous Maleficent drag queen on the carpet, and Angelina stopped to talk to her.

As for the rest of the cast… Elle Fanning wore this violet Elie Saab gown which totally makes her look like a princess. My one qualm: I think that choker necklace is much too mature for a 16-year-old. I felt a sense of déjà vu saying that, and wouldn’t you know that I had the exact same problem two years ago when Elle Fanning wore a lace choker with a Rochas gown. I guess Elle just loves chokers, but I still think the look is too mature for a teenage girl. Maybe that makes me an old fart, I don’t care.

I’m also including pics of Sharlto Copley, Sam Riley, Jon Voight, James Haven (La Jolie’s brother) and more!

I think she looks lovely. I didn’t realize she’s so tall.

    • SpookySpooks says:

How tall is she? How tall is Angelina?

I think the choker makes her look less mature and more juvenile. It reminds me of those stringy chockers that were popular when I was around 10.
      Her skin looks amazing.

      • aims says:

        She’s 5’8 and only 16. I’m sure she’s not done growing.

      • SpookySpooks says:

For some reason, I thought she was taller.
Eh, maybe she is. I hit 5’8 when I was 15. Now I’m 21 and still 5’8. I always wanted to be at least a bit taller, but sadly, that never happened.

      • Georgia says:

Oh man Spooks, I am only 5’2″! I didn’t give up on growing until I hit 20 hah

    • Lollipop says:

How accurate are celebrity heights? The ones found on the internet seem to always be an inch or two bigger than in real life.

  2. Loopy says:

I just have one question, Where is Brenton Thwaites??? Is he not doing any promotion at all??

  3. Hiddles forever says:

    She looks great IMO….

  4. kri says:

I love Elle’s dress. Angelina looks amazing. I want some horns!!!

    • Ravensdaughter says:

I thought about Angelina wearing horns, too, especially with all her little horned minions. She seems to be having as much fun as they are!

  5. Helvetica says:

It’s a beautiful blue dress, but she’s just so boring.

LOVE that shot of Angelina with all the little horned-Malifiscents. Cute!

  6. Eve says:

She looks lovely (and I love that choker).

  7. QQ says:

She looks great, her styling has been very cute and ethereal princessy this tour and frankly she isnt a good dresser at ALL so this is a win!

  8. FingerBinger says:

    1. James Haven’s face looks odd.
    2. Elle Fanning looks like one of those kids from Children of the Corn.
    3. Maleficent just doesn’t look like a kids movie to me.

    • blue marie says:

I will never be able to unsee #2. That movie scared the crap out of me when I was younger.

    • paola says:

Oh my GAWD you’re right. That film is terrifying. By the way i still remember the male character and how much of an asshole he was. Always listen to a woman. she does know better!

    • Sunlily says:

I was just going to post how dead eyed this girl always looks. I miss Dakota, tbh.

Meh on the dress. Hollywood can stop trying to bring everything from the 90’s back. I lived through the fashion once, it’s not fair to make us live through it again!!!

    • chicagogurl says:

I grew up rural around corn fields and children of the corn still scares the crap out of me. Malachai!

  9. Wren33 says:

I was all about chokers as a teen in the 90s.

  10. Chinoiserie says:

I think this is the same shade of blue Aurora wears in Sleeping Beauty. I hope Aurora wears the same blue in Maleficen, I love this shade of blue and it looks good on Elle. I do not mind the choker on her.

    • Maria of MD says:

Me too and yet whenever Disney puts out Aurora merchandise they have her in pink! Makes me crazy. What’s wrong with blue?

  11. Charlotte says:

That’s my dream princess gown. Gorgeous.

Also, how great is AJ’s smile? I love a genuine smile.

  12. Racer says:

The only aesthetic issue I have with her is the desire to maintain toddler-blonde hair color. She should try to embrace what is naturally growing from her roots.

  13. doofus says:

I think she looks age appropriate. The color is very pretty but the dress s a little too “fussy” for my tastes.

I LOVE the pic of all the little girls with the horns on, with Jolie sort of looking over them….so cute.

Sharlto looks HOT HOT HOT…but who is that skank hanging all over my BF?! how dare she.

Haven looks CREEPY. I’m sure he’s nice and all, but he’s got the “serial-killer eyes”.

  14. Kiddo says:

I wouldn’t mind the choker in another color, it too closely matches her hair which is a strange effect, but the dress is classy and lovely.

    • CuriousCole says:

That’s it! Thank you Kiddo, I could not determine why Elle’s look wasn’t completely gelling together, and the choker needed a pop of color. I adore her gown and if the choker were perhaps amethyst purple it would be a perfect look.

  15. Eleonor says:

Princess gown, totally appropriate for the movie and for the girl. Not my style, but I like it.

  16. aquarius64 says:

Elle looks lovely and age appropriate overall. I question the choker too, but she looks great.

  17. bokchoi says:

    Sharlto Copley – yum. yes.

  18. KJP says:

I hate all of this talk about whether something is too young/old for someone to wear. I really don’t think fashion has to be age-specific and if you like something you should wear it no matter how old you are. The one exception to this is when really young girls where something extremely revealing but once you’re in your late teens/early twenties and beyond I think you should be able to wear whatever you want without people saying that you are dressing too old or too young for your age.

    • CuriousCole says:

I appreciate you saying that KJP, because I have an inexplicable fondness for brooches and wear them often (I’m in my 20s) but at first I felt self-conscious that they’re associated with retirement age women. (Is Queen Elizabeth to blame?) I’m more confident now but it still helps to have positive reinforcements 🙂

  19. Suzy from Ontario says:

I’m not crazy about the severe hairstyle on her. I think she would look prettier with something softer at her age. I love the little horns on the kids! And the drag queen…fabulous!

  20. Tswise says:

The photo of Angelina surrounded by the little Malificents is cute.

  21. eliza says:

    Lovely!

  22. bettyrose says:

I can’t imagine being 16 without wearing chokers. Definitely age appropriate.

  23. Hissyfit says:

I think she looks very pretty! I love her gown. It’s better than showing side boobs and cleavage for 16 y.o.

This gotta be the best movie premiere out there! Food, bars, cute kids, face painting and other disney stuff, it look so much fun!

  24. taxi says:

Chokers are perfect for 16 year olds! When our chokers start hiding in or competing with neck wrinkles, it’s time to pass them onto a pretty child.

  25. Arhodo says:

Love the dress on her. Don’t care for the chocker though.

  26. Mouse says:

I don’t like the choker with her dress but I remember chokers being all the rage for teens and pre-teens in the mid to late 90s. So in my head totally age appropriate. Her dresses for this press tour have been spot on imo.

  27. No says:

I’m sorry but that dress has Helen Miren written all over it.

  28. Ravensdaughter says:

Wow, I missed John Voight the first time around! He showed up and everything was cool, right? I am glad he and Angelina have patched things up. I know she misses her mom terribly and her dad is nowhere near a substitute; however, it sounds like he is bending over backwards to see his grandchildren. She may even enjoy her dad’s company now. Finally, she is setting an example of forgiveness for her kids; that’s great, too.

  29. Denise says:

Perfection. Her smile is so endearing. I’m not a choker person (I wore one for my wedding 9 years ago and am still shuddering) but I think it completes the princess look which is youthful to me. The choker on a woman would look too overdone I think.
