Here are some more photos from last night’s CFDA Awards – you can read a summary of winners here. Since it was a fashion event, I guess we should have expected Lupita Nyong’o to show up, since she’s the Fashion Girl of 2014. But like so many of Lupita’s appearances lately, her look was… controversial. Perhaps she got “Fashion Girl” status too quickly? Lupita wore Suno – a onesie with, like, long culottes or something. I can’t even figure this out. It’s too busy, too cutesy, too fug. I’m sure it’s considered “fashion forward.” But I hate it.
Anne Vyalitsyna wore shorts too – her ensemble is by Jonathan Simkhai. This looks like a takeoff on Marc Jacobs circa 2006-ish.
Marion Cotilliard in Christian Dior. Seriously, the House of Dior has fallen. No one respects the brand anymore because they turn out consistently fugly, unflattering, terrible designs. Look at the design and construction of this dress – it’s absolutely awful.
Ashley & Mary-Kate Olsen in The Row – they won for their accessories. I could not find one photo of them where they were not posing like this, so I can’t see enough of their dresses to say whether I like them.

Lupita’s look is not fashion forward. It’s just plain fug. She seems like she tries too hard to be edgy, and winds up failing…
Also, I kinda think she needs to chill on the going to every single red carpet thing. It’s too much.

Lupita has been trying to hard since the Oscars. She hit a homerun that night but has swung and missed everytime since. And the blue eye shadow is also starting to bug me.

This would be okay at a casual event with shorter shorts(basically chop off the giant navy black so it’s just above her knee). But this is just really bad.
Closed toe shoes with a summery look is also a no for me.

I feel like I like Lupita’s outfit. But I’m not positive on that yet. I need to live with it a bit more. But I’m not sure it’s a onesie. In one of the pictures it looks like a crop top with high waisted pants. Which makes me like it more. Can anyone else confirm or deny???
However, she needs to stop with that god awful blue eyeshadow.

Marion’s is probably the worst to be totally honest, what is that weird detailing on the boob area? This post makes me so upset that people actually got paid to style these people in this way.
Most likely–her stylist picks some straight up fug outfits for her. When Lupita won PEOPLE’S Most Beautiful, she said in the interview that the only two outfits that she’s ever picked out for herself was that gold and white Dior at her first film festival/rc, and the blue gown she wore at the Oscars…
VC, as a fellow Twin I wanted your take on the Olsens and their pose. Your twin is a guy right? Did you get pressure to pose with each other in pictures?
I am an identical twin, and my sister and i would NEVER pose like that in our adult lives. It is just too cheesy, and you spend your entire adolescent lives being posed like bookends or as a mirror image. Once I was a late teen/adult, its like, let me just be myself in pictures! Their pose just makes my individuality shudder, and they do it constantly. They might as well be dressed alike with matching hair styles!
I was looking at other photos of them from this event and I came to the conclusion that they must have been like while in utero and it might be a natural way to posse.

My mom and my aunt are also identical twins. Posing like that *might* have been something they did under 10 but not as an adult. They did anything and everything to carve their own identities after the ‘cuteness’ wore off.
Also, I don’t get their style. Out of everyone here I think they are the worst dressed. They look like they are heading to a coven or something cultish. It’s weird.
Love Lupita… but that electric blue eye shadow can be a little much sometimes. Her outfit is a little “eh”.
And Marion Cotillard looks like she’s about to fly away, lol. Not her best look.

Why do the Olsen sisters insist on looking The Ring girl? It must be so creepy to go to dinner with them…looking at you with their big saucer eyes, niether saying a word, just taking turns pushing a single pea around their shared plate. *shivers*

I kind of like Mary-Kate’s strappy sandals… but she’s really starting to look older than Ashley (life catches up with you).
Like she said she is not a fashion forward person but has a great stylist maybe since the awards season she doesn’t work with her as much because lately her outfits are terrible. This is something my African Uncle would wear to a cook out.
The weave has to blended in Lupita, or else it won’t look good. Like the outfit though. Marion’s dress makes her look like a Nike and not in a good way. The Olsen twins need to kill the Halloween Witch girl motif. They always dress like their 100 year old grannies, and I don’t know why. Anne’s make up and hair looks terrible. Look like she’s about to go play basketball. Anne’s clothes aren’t fitted properly, so she looks like a boy. I hate dark red lips against really fair skin, imo, it ages the face. Then again, I don’t think red lipstick looks good on anybody; its jmo though.

I actually like Lupita’s style lately. Yeah, it’s weird, but it’s different and quirky and she works it so much better than I could. I agree about the eyeshadow being a bit much, but otherwise I’m for this.

I just want Lupita to quit with the blue eyeshadow. I’m not a fan of her outfit but don’t actively dislike it. It is is no way on the levels of fug that is Marion Cotilliard’s dress. Why is she styled to look like a tissue dispenser? Apart from the general doily disasterness, the construction of the dress makes it look like her boobs are situated below her armpits. Seriously, did she piss off the designer? Is she being blackmailed or what? I refuse to believe she put on that hideous frock, looked in the mirror and thought, ‘I look great.’

Marion would look adorable without the wings. The sheath matches her skin tone perfectly, it’s an interesting yet simple dress without the stupid wings.
She played it perfect, but also pretty freaking safe, in her ascension to Oscar. Now she’s doing some nutty shit. I kind of love it. She’s being bold, and frankly, that means ugly sometimes.
I’m not saying this looks good, I’m just saying it’s a natural reaction to the months if pretty-perfect-princess shtick. She’s been there, conquered that look so thoroughly it made everyone else look amateur. And now she’s got the capital to make fun, loud mistakes, She’ll get back to tasteful sometime in the future. We know she can. And who wants her to look so polished and perfect every. single. time., as she was November 2013-March 2014? She’ll find a medium. This is just an over-correction.
Go Dior! I’ve waited forever to get a dress with attached napkins!
