Duchess Kate wears a cream Jaeger dress in Greenwich: appropriate & cute?

wenn21441943

Duchess Kate made her first solo public appearance since Bum-gate today. She did an event at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich for a breakfast reception for the America’s Cup – a sailing competition, and the Brits want to compete in the 2017 race. She was joined by Sir Ben Ainslie (he’s cute) and… SIMON LE BON!!!! Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand… YES. Simon Le Bon is everything.

Kate wore a cream-and-navy shift dress with cap sleeves and a straight skirt. The dress is apparently from Jaeger, which is a popular mid-level label in the UK. I think it would sort of be like Michelle Obama wearing J.Crew (which FLOTUS does often). The skirt is rather fascinating to me – Kate rarely wears straight skirts. She prefers the light, fluttery full skirts, preferably short, which will blow up to her waist during any gust of wind. That’s another thing… look at the length of the skirt. If Kate had her way, you know she would have gotten this altered so the hem would have been about four inches higher. Somewhere, Kate’s royal bum-watcher did their job.

Oh, and I didn’t go looking for photos of Kate touching her hair. She touched her hair throughout the appearance. There was a breeze, but still. A light chignon would have looked nice with this shift dress.

You can read more about the America’s Cup here. Although it’s famously thought of as a “British prize” and one of the most sought-after sailing prizes in the world, it seems like a slew of Americans, Aussies and Swiss have won the cup for the most part.

I like the dress, it’s nice to see her in something a bit more fitted (and that isn’t a coat dress, lol). Her bum watcher deserves a raise! 😛

    • Amy Tennant says:

      I agree. Brava!

    • Audrey says:

I actually really love it but I’m a simple kinda girl.

Jeez she’s sure doing some post bumgate PR work. She’s actually making appearances!

    • Inconceivable! says:

I like the dress too. I’m constantly looking for weights in all her hemlines. Obviously she won’t have a visible panty line going commando all the time!!

      • vava says:

Check out the Daily Mail. There is a photo of her and it clearly shows a VPL.

      • FLORC says:

        Vava
I almost wrote “Good for her for wearing underwear”, but I had to stop myself. She’s an adult and i’m not going to treat her like a child.

Still, the dress is lovely. She can look good and classy in modest attire.

      • Chris says:

‘Waity Katy in Weightgate Debate’ inspired me to thread heavyish chain through the hem of a nylon parka that kept ballooning around me ro horrid effect. It was a revelation! Until I got home and found it had all bunched up. So this is the lesson: weight yer hems, but tack the chain in place!

    • Jocelyn says:

      Agreed.

  2. LadySlippers says:

The dress is very nice — boring but nice. (Typical descriptors for her)

❤️ And SIMON LE BON! I read that he wants to sail again…. Yay for Simon.

And William and Harry did this:

    • Secret Squirrel says:

Hi LadyS! I’ve not caught up with you in ages!! Been away and missed a lot on some of the “other” threads apparently!

Love Simon still and he is looking damn fine, but I prefer a man in a single-breasted jacket. I like Kate’s dress but it could have used something to just give it a little pop. Red heels maybe? Polka dots on the trim? Squirrel fur shrug?? Fluro legwarmers?? One of those headbands with the cat ears on it??

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Squirrel!!!•

        Hi!!!

*throws arms/leaves around Squirrel for a ginormous hug•

I missed you! And I’ve been staying away from our boys’ threads because no one wants to play or have fun. And more turf wars (both sides) and fighting. Bluck. 😔

Simon does look yummy. I usually prefer single breasted too but he pulls this off. And scruff. Yummy scruff. He’s ageing well too.

Kate absolutely needs to polish. This is yet another outfit that is *almost* there but not quite. But no squirrels, unless it’s Obnoxious Lenny. Oh wait, nevermind, I’d be upset then too. No dead creatures as accessories.

Red heels, actually any ‘fun’ shoe with hair up and fun, bold earrings. Or a belt instead of earrings. The possibilities are numerous.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

I’ve been quiet on the boys threads lately for the same reason!! I read but don’t comment much. That said I’m catching up with you and Nighty over on the BC thread now!

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Squirrel•

Well damn. I wasn’t commenting (and sometimes not even reading) cuz you weren’t there.

        Humph. Lol

      • wolfpup says:

My first thought was that the dress was finally appropriate, but I was looking for more jewelry – she is a duchess, after all, (not like one of us), and her dress was simple enough to be able to pop jewels, Jewelry is the best accessory!

      • LadySlippers says:

        •wolfpup•

It doesn’t have to be anything glamorous either — bold costume jewelry would really punch this up.

But in reality, fashion isn’t Kate’s thang.

      • Chris says:

Just re lack of jewellery…must say I think she was fine. Anything more would have been a bit naff for a daytime sport-themed occasion, I reckon, even if it was a v. smart bash. When in doubt about duchess attire, let her ask: ‘What Debo Devonshire have done?’ 😉

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Chris•

It wouldn’t have to be much. Just a splash of colour. With her hair up of course — to add the polish. The dress is stunning. No doubt about that.

      • Stef Leppard says:

        @wolfpup
And some cute shoes too. Her shoes are so bor–zzzzzzzzz

    • Lucretia says:

Simon looks good! I was more of a John Taylor girl back in the day, but I like the scruff here.
Extra points for what seems to be a solid marriage to model wife Yasmin Le Bon.

      • Amy Tennant says:

John Taylor was the prettiest man ever! I was a Nick Rhodes gal though. <3 Duranie forever

      • A mascarada says:

        + 1 for John Taylor!
        What a face… what a smile.

      • LadySlippers says:

I lurved me some John too. And Roger.

        ❤️sigh❤️

      • caz says:

Who cares what Kate is wearing..thanks for the simon le Bon photo! If he’s going to return to sailing, no repeat of boat capsizing. The ‘rio’ boat was safer 🙂

    • HH says:

I agree. I think the biggest thing she could do to improve her look is to get a more sophisticated hairstyle. That she can wear it done without taking away from the outfit. I’ve noticed Letizia looks great with her hair down with similar outfits that I’ve criticized Kate for. I think if Kate wishes to wear her hair down so much she needs to update the look.

      • LadySlippers says:

Letizia’s hair is shorter and it stays outa her face. Plus, Letizia knows how to behave professionally — makes all the difference in the world!

      • HH says:

        @LS – Totally agree!

  3. Abbott says:

Are those the Cambridge butt guardians with her?

  4. bettyrose says:

It’s flattering and sophisticated. She should get it in several colors.

    • joy says:

Agree totally. I’m always looking for dresses this length but I’m tall with a big butt so it doesn’t happen often.

  5. BendyWindy says:

I like it. The few times I’ve seen her in a straight skirt, they’ve always been about this length, though, so I’m not sure why we think she wanted it shorter?

    • anne_000 says:

Because she has no qualms about shorter dresses hiking up when she sits down or gets in/out of a car. Some may say she likes the ‘exposure.’

    • FLORC says:

      Bendy
When Kate has worn straight skirts they’ve been more above the knee than at or below the knee. Given the freedom (meaning without the Queen or Charles) Kate has had her goto length a few inches above the knee. Also, the fabric is lighter during that freedom and underwear is not present. Those photos don’t always make it into the main press, but the photos do exist.

      Anne_000
While Kate has managed to exit cars with the strong threat of exposing herself it is possible to exit a car without doing so and still wearing a high slit or hem. It takes some skill.

  6. Lilacflowers says:

The last time an English yacht club held the cup was in 1870, when they lost to the New York Yacht Club, which held it until the Australians took it in the late 1987. When the NYYC held it for over a century, many of the races were held in Newport, RI. Newport’s economy collapsed when the cup went to Australia.

    • Wren33 says:

I was going to say, the America’s Cup is not thought of as a British prize. My parent’s live across the river from Newport.

    • Nikki says:

Newport’s economy took its’ biggest hit when the Navy pulled out, and it took another big hit when we lost the Cup. But collapse, no: Newport has too much beauty, history, mansions, and beaches to ever cease being a tourist Mecca <3

    • Birdix says:

Just had the America’s cup in San Francisco–started out with most indifferent, by the time Ellison won it has captured everyone’s attention. Those crazy huge catamarans are amazing –they fly!

  7. kaye says:

So this is her idea of work, raising money for a rich man’s sport. How noble…

    • Jules says:

But being a duchess is HARD!!!!!

    • wolfpup says:

She should take some lessons from Angelina.

    • katie says:

The post is not about her work, it’s about her fashion sense and if you peruse the comments, I’d say about 95% of them don’t give a hoot about whether or not she’s pulling her weight work-wise. It’s about the clothes. Okay, the hair too.

    • hmmm says:

I guess the rich need to feel special, too. 😉

Now, about those underprivileged kids….oh, wait, not so special.

    • Nikki says:

A rich man’s sport can provide a lot of jobs for middle class folks, and there’s also the issue of national pride, and ardor for sailing .

    • Nikki says:

A rich man’s support can provide a lot of jobs for middle class folks, and there’s also the issue of national pride, and ardor for sailing .

    • DameEdna says:

      Wellsaid, Nikki.

Here in Oz, we have the annual Sydney to Hobart yacht race. The owners may be rich but many of the crew are not. And at the end of the race, Hobart is jumping with visitors and tourists……accomodation providers, shopkeepers, and (especially) pub owners love it when the boats come to town.

Honestly, some people will find fault with anything that woman does.

  8. Lilacflowers says:

The dress is simple and elegant. I want it.

    • Esti says:

Me too. This is exactly the kind of thing I would walk past in a store and then see someone else wearing (and looking fabulous in) a few days later.

  9. Alice.H says:

Love the nautical theme. She looks perfect.

  10. Lulu says:

I would want my dress to be 4 inches shorter if I had those legs.

  11. capepopsie says:

Well I also fidget a lot with my hair, especially in a breeze like this. You keep getting hair all over your face, that´s why I wear it in a knot, mostly. She looks sweet, and as she should, boringly so!
She´s Royal, so she is limited, poor thing. 🙂

  12. Sandy says:

Jaeger is a great brand, really durable. I’ve got a jacket that belonged to my mother in the late 60s hanging in my closet right now. It looks brand new. Is love to get my hands on their stuff if I could, but it isn’t sold where I live.

    • Chris says:

Me too, grand label. I do hate the stiletto shoes always, though the wedges are worse. A rounder toe and blockier heel would be great with her wardrobe, sly cool with traditional outfits, if I make any sense..

    • Montrealise says:

We have a Jaeger boutique where I live (I’m Canadian) and the clothes are great, but not inexpensive. I have one of their suits which I bought for about $ 800 a few yeara go. Not quite in the same category as J. Crew.

      • Sandy says:

I’m actually from Montreal originally, which is how it’s in my possession. Sadly I left 8 years ago, but planning a trip out there next year hopefully.

      • tessy says:

I got my nicest suit, a vintage fine wool that fits me like a glove for half price at a garage sale… for 50 cents. It cost me quite a bit more to have the sleeves and buttons adjusted a bit. I don’t mind “repeating” it either.

  13. vava says:

Nice dress, very professional looking and appropriate for her for ‘work’. That hair would drive me insane in the wind like that…..

  14. The Original Mia says:

Nice, safe, boring dress. I approve. Big no to the shoes. Should have tied the Hair back.

    Simon Le Bon is everything!

    • scooter says:

I need those shoes for work! I think they’re adorable and very professional-looking. Seems like Kate is still trying to find her way with fashion, which is an unfortunate thing to do in the spotlight (and in an uber-conservative family no less).

      • FLORC says:

I think Kate as found her fashion path. It just isn’t appropriate for her job, platform, and inlaws.
She has her style and must know what she likes because she rarely dresses outside of her flowy skirts, high heels, wedges, and jeggins.
I wonder if she’s comfortable in this type of dress. And if she left her hair down to have something to play wth if not a skirt.

      • Esti says:

She actually wears quite a lot of pencil skirts. Off the top of my head, both of today’s looks, the blue “poppy” dress that was also on the Mindy Project, the yellow dress with white contrasts in Australia, two bright blue dresses (one with a built-in jacket-like top), the two Roksanda Ilincic dresses in similar styles, and three or four suits with pencil skirts. I think she wore more flowy skirts during the pregnancy (for obvious reasons — I can’t imagine strapping yourself into a pencil skirt while pregnant would be all that comfortable) but on the whole she wears a variety of silhouettes.

  15. Talie says:

She has the right height to look great in pencil skirt — she should rock those more often. She could always pair it with a tight top, but I don’t think she’s as confident in her upper body.

    • Amelia says:

I’m puzzled by the little band around the middle; either she’s got a very high waist, it’s strangely designed or she’s hiking the band up a couple of inches, which would be very strange.
It looks like her lower half has been stretched out. Or maybe I really do need to get glasses 0_o

      • bluhare says:

I think she’s longwaisted and tends to tailor her dresses to hide it. Her waists always look bordering on empire to me.

But I think she looks nice. She’s a royal duchess; fashion forward isn’t in her job description, but lovely and stylish is and she is both today. I’m going to a wedding soon, and something like that would be lovely, I think.

      • Dany says:

yes, sometimes her belts/bands are too high. She tries to hide her long torso very good most of the time, but sometimes it´s too much and her upper legs looks twice as long as her lower legs:

        http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/06/06/article-2650886-1E890E0A00000578-126_634x636.jpg

      • Juliette says:

Especially in the first picture, this dress emphasizes her odd proportions. The long torso issue is likely the reason why she hems all her dresses to an inappropriately short length. Showing more leg does distract the eye from what’s going on up top.

      • LadySlippers says:

I don’t think she gets her stuff tailored often because so many of her outfits don’t fit well. Because you can totally see when it is tailored…

      • FLORC says:

Yup, yup to the long torso shorter leg ratio.
That’s why so many of her outfits have that empire waist as bluhare said. To trick the eye into making her legs look longer and torso shorter. In doing that her hemline is much closer to her buscuit than you’d think..

        LS
I can’t understand how her outfits are so poorly tailored. Doesn’t she have access to amazing tailors? And when she buys and outfit or has one custom made to her (a closet full of bespoke) how they can get it so wrong. She must be going for that look. Whatever that look is.

      • Olenna says:

To me, these types of (boring) dresses, especially light colored ones, only emphasize her odd proportions. IMO, she would look much better in tailored jackets over the dresses or pencil skirts. If it’s too hot for a jacket, she could wear a beautiful, well-cut blouse and skirt, but she needs to learn how to accessorize before going there.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Florc•

With the huge contrast between poorly fitting clothing and spectacular fitting clothing leads me to believe — she buys off the rack. A lot. I mean. A LOT a lot. And tailors none of her off the rack stuff. Designers are often horrified (horrified might too strong of a word) at the results — especially with all her flying skirts.

(Jenny Packham and other designers often have no clue she’s going to wear their clothing and are just as embarrassed when their brands are part of her ‘mishaps’).

I’ve compared the clothing people thinks she’s tailored and they are nearly identical to the online pics. Her body porportions throw off the looks plus she rarely tailors her off the rack stuff. It’s only her custom stuff that fits well. The rest is just…her funky body (nothing wrong with that — we all have body quirks) and not tailoring to accommodate to said body.

      • Chris says:

Just getting a grip on this: when you guys mentioned tailoring I thought you meant minor adjustments to finished garments. Sure she buys off the rack, a lot. (She has in the past favoured an Irish designer, Orla Kiely, whose stuff I love, so I loved to see it in glossy mags).

  16. MinnFinn says:

She looks fine and the dress is a respectable length. However, her appearance still looks somewhat unkempt because of that hair. Oh well, at least she hasn’t exposed her bum or lady bits as the Brits like to say.

I read today that Willy and Kate added another full-time person to their staff. He’s an equerry. Their next hire will probably be a yeoman of the glass.

    • bluhare says:

I saw that. William doesn’t want to work, she hardly does, yet they need someone else. I’m wondering who they’ve hired that we haven’t heard about. At least they aren’t pretending to be just like us any more.

      • FLORC says:

It’s not easy to appear like you work very hard to an educated society. That takes a large staff working around the clock Bluhare!
The more guards, the more staff. the more bottom watchers are neccessary for the ducal couple too busy to remember if they fully dressed themselves.

    • LadySlippers says:

Oh ladies, the equerry is only *temporary* though….

      *eye roll*

      Lol

    • Dame Snarkweek says:

He’s a very young Irish Guard, I believe, and he is a temp until they get a full timer. The position usually ends after three years anyway. He is engaged to an American from Maine.

      • LadySlippers says:

Well, top o’ the morning to you •Snark•!

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

And a pleasant GM to you! I hope this is a migraine free day for you, as I know you battle them. Wouldn’t it be amazeballs to be 100% healthy? With a palace. Fully staffed. And a new equiry 😉

      • LadySlippers says:

Oh Snark, can it be with a dollop of Ginger too?????

        *makes googly eyes at Snark*

And I do have a migraine coming.

        *sigh*

        Story of my life…

      • FLORC says:

Maine! Do I know her? I need more info on this…

        Link me someone!

      • LAK says:

Dame: the post of Equerry is a permanent job, but the people hired for it are given a 3yr contract. The job is a rolling 3yr contract job so to speak.

I think it’s a deliberate attempt to pull the wool over the public’s eyes, in the usual ‘we are normal’ way, in declaring that the new Equerry is temporary because the public don’t realise that the post is always ‘temporary’ for the holder whilst the job itself is a permanent requirement for the royal.

      • hmmm says:

They can’t seem to stop fibbing. They show such utter contempt for their supporters and the rest of us. Enough reason not to feel a shred of sympathy for the likes of William and his supposed inner angsting over the pressures of his position- aka ‘suffering in ermine’. Poor, lying little rich boy, indeed.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Florc•

        As you requested m’lady.

But be forewarned — there’s lots of shade being thrown the Cambridge’s way. And it names names! WOWZA!

        http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2653502/SEBASTIAN-SHAKESPEARE-Kate-Wills-add-equerry-swelling-staff.html

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

        LAK
Thanks. I assumed the new equiry was a temp because of his impending nuptials, possibly with a resulting move. But I think, I hope no one thinks this one won’t be replaced immediately after the ‘temp’ leaves.

    • Dame Snarkweek says:

      LS
Ginger? I’ll make a few calls.
      🙁
      Feel better.

  17. Hissyfit says:

I like the dress, it’s very minimal and chic.

  18. claire says:

In the DM she’s seen talking to a young child but the poor little girl turned away and hid her face! You know what they say about the senses of children and animals…

    • bluhare says:

Or the little girl was shy.

      • FLORC says:

        Yea.
Simple case of Occam’s razor. Let’s not overcomplicate this. The girl was likely shy.

    • Dame Snarkweek says:

      Claire
Is this sarcasm? Hard to tell sometimes in print.

      • kaye says:

Dame if I had to guess, I would say she’s implying the kid is scared of Kate.

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

That’s a reasonable fear. In the absence of sarcasm I would have to guess that the implication is that children and animals intuitively know if a person is good or not. A tad unfair, imo.

  19. murphy says:

If it was between getting her to wear a non-flash dress or non-twirlable hair, I’m glad they picked the dress.

  20. maichan says:

Her posture bothers me somewhat. I understand she may not be confident (and a lot of other reasons I imagine), but I just remember my mother used to slap me on my back when I slumped like that (when I was younger, although I wouldn’t put it past her to do it now if I stand like that). The good news is that I have it ingraned in me to keep my shoulders straight etc, the bad news is that seeing photos like these makes me want to head over there and slap her on the back saying “posture, woman!” Which is still better than my mum’s “shoulders back, girl, you’re not a hobo!”

    • vava says:

Look at it this way, Kate is doing a public service – after looking at the Hunchback of Cambridge, most everyone wants to stand straight. LOL

    • Lucky Charm says:

Hmmm, perhaps you’ve hit upon the reason why her skirts sometimes seem to be so short – she’s slouching more when she’s at the tailors getting measured, so when if she stands up straighter they become actually much shorter. (Much like pulling down on your bangs to trim them, then when you let go you realize how short you really cut them…not that *I* would know about )

And my mother also was a stickler for good posture. She threatened to attach a yardstick to the back of my shoulders if I didn’t sit or stand up straight.

    • tessy says:

My dad used to drive his index finger into our spine between our shoulder blades. That hurt but we stood straight. I tend to slump now though and have to stop it!

  21. SnarkGirl says:

She looks good – the blue and white is nautical without being precious about it and the cut & length are quite flattering.

She should go with this look more often. Being a Royal is a job, and part of having a job is dressing appropriately for your position. She might not like it, but she did sign up for it!

  22. Dany says:

i like the dress, minimalistic elegance!

But damn her poor posture… 3 years ago it wasn´t that bad, right? It´s getting worse 🙁

    • kaye says:

All that crazy dieting and the obvious weightloss are probably responsible. Her poor spine and the supporting muscles have weakened and she lacks the strength to maintain good posture.

      • vava says:

or it could be the shoes.

      • AM says:

She hunches like she’s self-conscious about her height…and yet she wears super high heels, so maybe not. It could be a bad childhood habit that was never properly corrected and is now exacerbated by being in new and uncomfortable situations – just like her thing with touching her hair.

      • Poink517 says:

Thank you! I was going to say something about how she really needs to put on a few pounds! Starving herself is not good for her bones, and will exacerbate her already poor posture.

      • wendi says:

When I was in highschool, a classmate had anorexia and her posture went from pretty near perfect to stooped over, flexed spine like Kate. She simply didn’t have the necessary strength and musculature to support herself properly. Doubt it’s an issue with confidence with Kate — she does not come across as someone who lacks confidence and her posture was pretty normal before.

      • FLORC says:

Kate has decent muscle mass, but maybe she isn’t exercising her back or having poor form.

Outside of that it cold be the shoes. She’s above average for a female and often visits with people muh shorter than her. Add 4 inch heels to her and she has to hunch over.

When Kate is in flats or sneakers the posture issue vanishes.

    • wendi says:

Muscle mass, FLORC? You must be looking at different (much older) photos than the ones I’ve seen lately.

Although any muscles she has left are quite visible because she has negligible body fat, to say she has mass is erroneous. When she’s wearing a lower neckline or her back is partially exposed, you can see every bone in her rib cage and her sternum and clavicle are blindingly prominent. To be as frail as Kate has become is not a good thing IMHO – that’s why so many anorectics end up with osteoporosis (not to mention other health issues) down the road.

      • kaye says:

I know what you’re getting at re: the matter of bones sticking out, but you have to admit she does a pretty good job of hiding it. High necklines and a heavily padded bra do wonders for her – I was just looking at the pictures of her at Philip’s 93rd b-day garden party and she looks deceptively “buxom” in the photos.

      • claire says:

Are you saying she did 2 whole engagements in 1 day?? Surely you jest. She must be absolutely exhausted!!!!

      • vava says:

        @kaye………….
yes, the padded bra was out today at the birthday party. Good eye!

  23. Jaderu says:

    WHOOOOSH!!!!!
I just got sent back to mid-school in a haze…
    SIMON!!
Why can’t Simon have a bum-flash mishap? Dangit.

  24. Jennifer says:

I don’t remember ever seeing her wear a watch before! What does it mean? :-O

    • Dany says:

she wants to look like someone with a stressful work schedule…
looking busy at work without really working 😉

    • Esti says:

I think she started wearing the watch right after she had George. I’m guessing that it’s handy now that she has to keep track of his feeding/sleeping schedule.

      • hmmm says:

Seriously? Then what do the nannies do?

      • Esti says:

I don’ t really want to get into a spat about the (wholly inaccurate, IMO) theories about how Kate has a dozen nannies and never sees her child. But the first time I remember seeing her in a watch was at George’s christening (an old one, different than the Cartier Will gave her at some point since) and she’s worn one pretty consistently since then, at least for daytime events, so I think it’s pretty clear that it’s related to George.

      • hmmm says:

        You make wild assumptions.

      • Esti says:

We’re all making assumptions here, it’s a celebrity gossip site. But I really don’t think this is a big leap: she *never* wears a watch from her wedding day until her kid is born, then she starts wearing one every time she goes out (first an old one last seen before her engagement, then a new one gifted by her husband). That doesn’t mean it’s 100% certain that it’s related to George, but that seems like the most likely answer.

      • LAK says:

Esti- on the subject of nannies, it’s not assumption. They’ve advertised for nannies at various points indirectly and directly and confirmed them when they’ve been hired. each ad has asked for an assistant to the previous one.

There was much gossiping and waffle when Fraulein Maria was hired, but Jessie has never been confirmed as retired. ditto the Italian housekeeper/cleaner/cook/nanny.

on a different note, with regards her watch, my comment refers to this silver Cartier that she’s taken to wearing all the time. I’m not sure that i noticed her other watches, but for no particular reason this one stood out.

      • Esti says:

Like I said, I didn’t really want to get into nanny debates because I know that people have their views that they’re not likely to change. But to your point about what is verifiable in the public record: the housekeeper is a housekeeper, she formerly had that role for the Queen and the job posting for her position specified a variety of household tasks she would be responsible for, none of which included caring for George. And while no, there has not been an official announcement that Jessie no longer works for them, every report when Maria was hired was that she was replacing Jessie — just like every report when Jessie first took on the position was that she was coming out of retirement to be a temporary nanny, but that she didn’t want to sign on for it long-term.

As far as I’m aware, no official source has ever said that any other nanny, temporary or otherwise, has been hired. People are certainly free to believe what they want about the housekeeper, the secret army of hidden nannies holed up in KP, the dungeon they keep Jessie Webb locked in, etc. But all of that is speculation.

      • bluhare says:

Unfortunately a nanny discussion is what you’re getting, Esti!

I personally saw the ad for the housekeeper when they advertised for it and it clearly stated “childcare as needed”. Whether her job description has changed since then, I don’t know, but I do know what I read at the time it was posted.

I’ve never seen anything that says Jessie Webb is gone, just that she did not want to travel to Australia/New Zealand with them. She might be gone, or she might be part time to relieve Maria.

Maria is a full time nanny, even though neither one of them works full time.

    • LadySlippers says:

She had the watch on their Australia/ New Zealand tour. William gave it to her as a gift. There were a few articles not that long ago discussing it.

  25. kaye says:

I know we’re comparing apples and oranges, but it’s interesting all the same to compare Kaiser’s post on Angelina to this one. Angelina may be wealthy, successful and famous, but she still has the time, passion and energy to do meaningful work and what she is wearing is beside the point.

    • vava says:

And Angie has her hair under control, stands straight, and doesn’t flash her rear.

    • Aeryn39 says:

Kaye – great point! I never thought about it before, but you’re so right!

    • Lucky Charm says:

If only Angie could impart her work ethic to Kate, and Duchess Kate could give her some fashion advice (on the colors, not the wardrobe malfunctions!!! – Angie could definitely give Kate advice there on how to dress appropriately.)

  26. lower-case deb says:

based on the eyeliners in the picture, i am now firmly and unequivocally convinced that Kate is reincarnated from Queen Nefertiti.

  27. starfan says:

These Royals are really just there for posing, smiling & waving aren’t they? To be that filthy rich, with no real job & purpose to life, SIGH….. This is why Angelina Jolie deserves so much credit for her humanitarian work. She could easily just stand around looking pretty but she refuses to be that simple.

  28. Juliette says:

Anyone else find Kate’s botox to be super obvious in these photographs?

She stopped while pregnant and nursing, I guess now that George has teeth and eats solids, she’s back to the ‘tox. I dislike it, and I don’t think it makes her look youthful. Just waxy and oddly shiny.

    • LadySlippers says:

      •Juliette•

      Help me see it please!

      • The Original Mia says:

Her forehead doesn’t crinkle like it did the last time we saw her.

      • FLORC says:

        LadySlippers
My ability to post links is hit and miss on my mobile. LAK not long ago posted a few links to show her forhead and her botox “bunnylines/ears” around her nose.

The tell tale signs of lots of botox use.

From my observations she’s botoxed more prepregnancy. And depending on her photo she either has a heavily wrinkled forhead that barely scrunches to a completely smooth forhead that moves about as much as nicole kidmans.

If no one posts I suggest google bunnylines. All these celebs and a few shots of Kate show up. Women smiling and crinkling their noses with smooth forheads.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Florc•

I have those bunny lines LAK mentioned and I promise you — I ain’t ‘toxing.

All I can say is I hope with the same dedication to become a Wiglet Watcher than I can become ‘Tox Tracker. Or whatever name we eventually give it! Lol

        I’ll just keep looking..

And could she be getting other fillers besides Botox? Just curious.

      • Chris says:

I’ve a completely smooth forehead (weird at my age) and have those lines mentioned, so the forehead isn’t an infallible guide always. But dear god, I hope she’s not fannying around with botox and fillers. Organic plant oils from Highgrove for her face, that’s the ticket!

  29. HoustonGrl says:

Her “work” seems utterly pointless, but I don’t think she’s in charge of anything except maybe her hair appointments and shopping trips. Even her clothes are picked out by someone else. This stepford/Barbie image is such a turn off to me. It makes the British Monarchy seem so out of touch.

    • LadySlippers says:

      •HoustonGirl•

Nope, this is entirely Kate. The BRF essentially runs like an employee-owned franchise but with lots of leeway. There are some essential rules to follow but almost everything is left up to the ‘owner’ or in this case, the royal.

I could list a bazillion examples if needed but this is all Kate (and William).

    • wendi says:

Don’t forget her personal training sessions and planning her restricted food regimen 🙂 both of which are critical to maintaining her physique 🙂

  30. may234 says:

She’s been taking notes – this is the length she only rarely used to try but now seems to have become her staple.

  31. wow says:

She looks lovely. And fortunately the only thing flying up and around is her hair. I can live with that. And boy, I’d never thought there would ever be a time when I would actually look forward to seeing pictures of Kate. What’s next? Me actually calling her Catherine? Eek!

She’s so much easier for me to tolerate once I realized she is great for t his role. She’s doing everything that they need her be…slim, look great in clothes, birth heirs, look pretty, don’t talk too much, smile, wave, look somewhat interested, show off George, give a golden comment nugget to the public about George, accept flowers, walk with hands folded and slightly clutched in front of her, and play with her gorgeous l locks. Only thing left on the check list is to not flash, and she seems to have finally got that down now.

    Time for a second pregnancy.

    • MinnFinn says:

Naaah, no pregnancy. It’s time for her to attend princess school (for real this time) to improve her princessing skills.

Her skirt length is an improvement. I agree on that, but imo she woefully under performs the essentials of her job. For one thing, she needs to improve her speeches. Her deportment during them is so bad I cringe. The high school seniors that spoke at my nephews’ graduation last weekend were much much better than Kate. If a high school senior can speak eloquently and manage their nerves during a speech to a 1000 people, Kate can learn to do the same.

  32. shelley says:

I hate her hair. I generally like long hair (and I myself have long hair), so I don’t know why hers bugs me so much, but it just never looks right or professional enough for her position.

  33. charlie says:

For all the hype over Waity’s bum, it is clear from these photos (as it is from many past photos) that she actually has no bum.

    • DameEdna says:

And there’s nothing wrong with that. Imagine having to all the time ask “Does my bum look big in this”?

      #proudlybumless

  34. Chris says:

In Bonny Prince George news, there’s a picture-fest of Euro-royal children in Hello, and a scary-looking lot they are. But the eye lingers on George….something is misssing… Yes! The child honestly looks like he usually has a fag in his mouth, half a bitter on the table, and the day’s racing page on his folded Daily Mail. He’s such a *bloke*! To revisit the ‘name that king’ discussion, this lad was born to be King Bert.

  35. Chris says:

Blast it, my last comment must read like ancient Greek…..the picture of George I imagined involved a cigarette and a glass of beer….that may not have been clear

  36. Grant says:

I never thought I would say this in reference to Kate but I love those shoes!
