Taraji P. Henson, 43 years old: ‘Face it, I don’t wake up looking like Beyoncé.’

I LOVE Taraji P. Henson. I’m always thrilled when she turns up in movies or TV, and I always want the best for her. The first time I ever really paid attention to her was in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which earned her an Oscar nomination (her first and only). She played Brad Pitt’s adoptive mother, and she and Brad reportedly got along like a house on fire – she even has a great story about hanging out with her girlfriends and Brad coming over to say hi to all of them. She just seems like a cool woman in general, and I enjoyed this short interview she did with Page Six to promote her work in Think Like A Man 2.

Taraji P. Henson. The “P” stands for Penda. Says the single mom and Best Supporting nominee for “Benjamin Button.”

“My career’s good, but I think about my family. It’s just the two of us. After the best private schools, my college son, 20, is now a writer, trying to figure it out. Needing to like what he does. He writes essays, stories, and he’s also into music.”

“Listen, we’re like the Jeffersons. Now a big LA house. To us, it’s a mansion. When his father passed away, I had only $900 to my name. And getting nominated, I blew it all on a pair of Louboutin shoes. I figured I deserved it.”

“There’s also my mama, who was my date at the Oscars. She lives in Florida, and I’ll give her anything she wants. But she doesn’t want anything. She remarried. She found her lucky sucker. So if you ask how’s Mama making it alone, you’re confused. She’s not alone. It’s me who’s alone. I’m always looking.”

“Hard to maneuver when you’re in show business. It shrinks the search pool. I don’t want an actor. I want a life partner. A real one. I had a guy, but cut to the chase. He was starstruck. They fall for the lady on-screen. Face it, I don’t wake up looking like Beyoncé. I think I’ll have to start hunting abroad. Maybe get off the Northern Continent. I know you just cannot have two narcissists together.”

About her new movie “Think Like a Man Too,” it’s: “I play Lauren. She’s single, she’s the successful CEO of a company. The cast’s unreal. Great camaraderie. Michael Ealy, La La Anthony. We could improv the whole movie.”

[From Page Six]

The way Taraji talks about her son reminds me of Sofia Vergara’s relationship with her now-adult son. Taraji and Sofia both seemed to really “hit it” in America as single mothers of nearly-adult kids, and they both talk about single parenthood with a lot of honesty, I think. Oh, and both of them are sort of widows too – Sofia’s husband died and Taraji’s partner was murdered in 1997. I’d really love for Brad to set her up with someone – Taraji needs a good man in her life!

PS… She’s so beautiful! Taraji is 43 years old. Good God. She’s a bombshell.

  1. NewWester says:

She reminds me of a younger version of Diana Ross. Maybe if a movie is ever made of Diana Ross, Taraji could get the part?

    • lisa2 says:

      hahaha.. I see that..

She could do a remake of Mahogany.. that would be hot.

She doesn’t get the credit she deserves.

    • Kiddo says:

She reminds me of Latifah at the top and then a fuller Diana in the bottom pic. She’s very pretty.

    • MCraw says:

I’ve worked with both Taraji and Sofia.

Both ladies are true class acts. Normal, open, confident women. No hiding in trailers, eating separate from crew, or talking down to anyone. Treat their jobs as just that: a job. Not an excuse to act entitled or above anyone else. Maybe because they’ve actually lived and had those single mother experiences and appreciate what they now have.

      • Skittles says:

I’ve worked alongside Taraji on-set too. Such a sweetheart and very down to earth.

  2. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Awww, that sucks for her. It’s sad when you’re in that position, and you think you can stay with that person for the rest of your life, and you find out that they’re in love with an image. Or just in love with the fame aspect.

She needs to go to Spain or Italy or SOMEWHERE and find a nice, hot guy. I’d suggest a Russian billionaire, but Naomi might chuck a phone at her.

  3. Lilacflowers says:

Love Taraji. Miss her on Person of Interest.

    • islandwalker says:

I loved her on POI, one of my fav shows. She was such a strong character. Miss her still.

      • MM says:

OMG was awesome on POI and the show isnt the same now that shes gone! Wonder why they wrote her out she was a key element in the series.

    • TQB says:

Me too! I had that episode spoiled for me and it took months before I could gather the courage to watch it. I still love the show but WHY, WHY, WHY? Couldn’t we have Shaw and Carter? I feel like they couldn’t figure out how to write for two female characters at the same time.

    • The Original Mia says:

I miss her too. After she left, I basically stopped watching it. I loved her character and her relationship with Fusco and Reese. Shame they killed her off. Show hasn’t been the same since.

    • Lucinda says:

She was wonderful on POI. What’s funny is they really played down her beauty in that show. I thought she was pretty enough but in these pictures, holy cow! She’s gorgeous!

  4. Andrea1 says:

She is So hot and also a wonderful actress. Yes Brad set her up better still get her a good job 😉

  5. Samtha says:

She’s gorgeous. And I’m still bitter about what happened to her character on Person of Interest. The show hasn’t been the same since.

  6. Kaye says:

I don’t think even Beyonce wakes up looking like Beyonce.

In any case, I’d rather wake up looking like Taraji.

    • We Are All Made of Stars says:

I scrolled down to say exactly that. I wish I could pull off lilac eyeshadow and lipstick. Oh well.

      • kri says:

She is gorgeous, and no one wakes up looking great. I turned 42 yesterday, and this morning when I woke up after a night out, I had to slap on a mineral mask, drink two coffees and a gallon of water before I stopped looking like a rejected extra from The Walking Dead set.

      • Pandy says:

Seriously, that headshot? Total bombshell! Better than Beyonce. She reminds me of Mila Kunis actually.

    • BratB says:

I was going to say the same thing. Beyonce as well as others, have a team of people. If I had a team I could yell ” I woke up like dis” too! Not to say that all stars look bad without their teams help, but it’s close lol.

      • Jojoann says:

Even Beyonce has admitted that she doesnt wake up looking like “Beyonce”.

      • LAK says:

the only 3 celebrities i suspect wakes up looking like their images are christy Turlington, Stephanie Seymour and Thandie Newton.

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

        LAK
Oh now I miss the late 90s. And don’t forget adriana Lima.

      • Francis says:

Not even Christy Turlington looks like Christy Turlington in the morning. I saw her one morning in front of Ford Models smoking a cigarette , skin was not great, looked tired and not super tall either , no one even noticed her ..I stopped and talked to her to make sure it was her , because I lived and breathed Vogue…and it was her….but I have to say she was extremely nice, a real sweetheart.

I’ll bet Taraji looks better than Beyoncé in the Morning.
Taraji is quite a beautiful woman. IMO

    • Happyhat says:

      Ditto gonna say that too!

    • DrFunkenstein says:

      +1

  7. Dame Snarkweek says:

With her bone structure and hesitantly sexy vibe she would be amazing in a Ruby Dee biopic. Have loved Taraji since Hustle and Flow.

    • Kali says:

Very good call on Ruby Dee. God, Taraji would be fantastic in that biopic.

      *crosses fingers*

    • launicaangelina says:

I was hoping someone would mention her role in Hustle and Flow. She, and the movie, were amazing.

    • claire says:

Okay is that why she looked familiar to me, because all the other roles mentioned weren’t ringing a bell. I haven’t seen Benjamin Button or the tv show, but damn her face looked familiar!

    • Dame Snarkweek says:

My fingers are crossed as well. Elba as Ossie? Yes, she stole H&F for me.

  8. eliza says:

Honey, Beyonce doesn’t wake up looking like Beyonce. Don’t feel bad.

I loved her on Person of Interest. She made such a great cop and I loved the dynamic with her and the two men. This season was notthe same without her.

  9. chloe says:

I love her and I think she is way more beautiful than Beyonce, I stopped watching Person of Interest once they killed off her character.

  10. Izzy says:

Her honesty is refreshing. Nobody wakes up looking like Beyonce. Including Beyonce.

  11. Oh Really says:

What’s a “sort of” widow? Both of them were married when their spouses died. Doesn’t matter what lead to her husband’s death, he’s dead so that would make her a widow.

    • Delta Juliet says:

“Sort of” because it sounds like she wasn’t married to her sons father. That makes a difference, linguistically.

  12. LDUB says:

She taught me the best line when you think yo mans cheatin: “let me smell yo d*ck”

  13. Faye says:

I’ve always been a Taraji fan. She is super-nice in person. Crazy story -she was at a winery once in Israel, of all places – she has them ship cases to her at home in LA. She was so sweet and down to earth and just normal. I’d love to see her getting more roles.

I hope she finds someone nice, and I like what she said about not wanting some narcissistic celeb as a partner (not that all actors are like that, but it shows she’s looking for the right thing).

She’s older than Beyonce, but she’s plenty beautiful – she doesn’t need to compare herself, IMO.

  14. hindulovegod says:

Last year, I was in line behind her and Angela Bassett at JFK, at both check-in and security. Taraji has perfect skin (and it was 6 am). I am about her age and I was mystified by her skin. She was also very friendly. Another guy in line knew her only from her CBS show, which he loved. She thanked him for watching, chatted about storylines with him, and asked him about his trip. Someone else asked about her shoes, and she joked that she never wears flats. She had zero artifice, which I imagine is unusual in her profession. Sadly, I think it might be the problem in her dating life.

    • I Choose Me says:

Thanks for sharing that anecdote. It’s nice to know that she’s as warm and down to earth as her personality seems to suggest. Too often that’s not the case and now my girl crush can continue unabated.

Er, what about Angela Bassett? What was she like?

      • hindulovegod says:

Angela Bassett seemed like a grande dame, a person who had been famous a long time. She had the expectation that she would get special treatment–a valet to move her bags, an escort to the front of the priority line–and she did. She wasn’t rude or bad-tempered at all. She was just not regular people. She did have to wait with the rest of us in the security line, though, and did so with no fuss. While Taraji chatted away, Angela mainly looked at her phone.

  15. Adrien says:

I know her from Karate Kid and Person of Interest. Gorgeous woman.

  16. Becki says:

LOVED her on Person of Interest!! she’s gorgeous & I hope that she can find someone to be happy with, just like her mama 🙂

  17. Tania says:

She’s such a great actress, wish she had more opportunities. I hardly ever like what she wears or her make up but that top pic with the red dress is amazing. She doesn’t need to bring anyone up, beyonce looks so much better without make up than with make up, and that first pic of taraji proves she also looks better with little to neutral make up as well.

Also she had a movie with Idris coming out, can’t wait to see it.

  18. I Choose Me says:

So happy to see a Taraji post. She’s one of my girl crushes. That picture of her in the lilac lipstick and eye-shadow is everything.

So wait, is she saying she and Micheal Ealy’s character don’t stay together in Think Like A Man 2? ’cause that’s a bummer if true.

  19. Shrubee says:

I would believe it if you told me she is younger than Beyonce. Guys I am not being ageist. She looks gorgeous and she is super humble. But most importantly she seems like someone whose inner confidence shines through all that gorgeousness

  20. Lori says:

Maybe Brad Pitt can hook her up with Micheal Fassbender

    • Sunny says:

I think Fassy would be into it but as much as I love him, he seems like a sketchy dude and I think she needs someone nicer.

I could totally see her dating a handsome regular guy.

She is talented, gorgeous and more than that she seems kind and down to earth. Love her!

  21. ashley says:

So happy to see a taraji post!!! She ‘s one of my favorite celebrity! I miss her so much on person of interest,i don’t watch it anymore. I hope she’ll find a nice life partner.

  22. AlmondJoy says:

I am beyond happy to see a Taraji post!! 😍 I’ve loved her for years. So talented. She brings such life to every role she plays. I’m sure everyone has seen her in Person of Interest and Benjamin Button, but check her out in Something New, The Family That Preys, and Not Easily Broken. She lights up the screen, even with small supporting roles. I even remember when she was on Sister, Sister yeaarrrs ago lol.

  23. Sherlockapple says:

Love the dress in the first pic. She has gorgeous skin.

  24. JenniferJustice says:

I love her. She’s real. She’s cool. She’s warm and honest. The first thing I remember seeing her in was Baby Boy. I know that movie probably got panned and was a low-budget film, but I have a place in my heart for it.

I have to say, she is by-far prettier than Beyawnce. I get it was an analogy and trying to convey she looks better w/make up on and her hair done, but who doesn’t. She’s still probably prettier than average just rolling out of bed.

  25. Ola Wysocka says:

I absolutely admire her, both as an actress and a person – she comes across genuine in her interviews. Person of Interest was one of my favourite shows but I stopped watching that completely once she was gone. I’m still bitter about it, in fact!

  26. whatsmyname? says:

Yaay Taraji I love her. I hope she finds someone nice, leave all of those sketchy actors to someone else.

  27. Francis says:

I love her. It’s kinda sad what Hollywood does to ethnic actresses. The women get few good roles , get some stardom, then get little to come their way. It’s sad, there are so many wonderful ethnic actresses who should be working more and have huge careers but it seems they get stalled by lack of roles.
Taraji seems like a great lady.

  28. Carrie says:

I thought Sofia Vergara was divorced….it was her brother that was murdered according to Wikipedia.

  29. kity says:

Back in the day, (90″s) when there were real, hot, smoking models, Cindy Crawford is famous for saying “Even I don’t look like Cindy Crawford in the morning”. Back then, Cindy was bigger than Gisele, she did runway, print, Sports Illustrated, Revlon, and did not believe that her sh*t don’t stink like Gisele.
Most celebrities, w/o the help of a team (includes photoshopping) do not look flawless after the age of 21.
    she’s gorgeous

  30. Fab says:

Taraji, even Bey doesnt. Beautiful woman (Taraji)

  31. Sacred And Profane says:

She doesn’t look like Beyoncé when she wakes up? I doubt Beyoncé looks like Beyoncé when she wakes up…

I’d never heard of this lady before this article (I’m in Australia and don’t watch movies….I know), but she is very beautiful and seems normal.
