Miranda Lambert cut her hair into a chin length bob: cute or unflattering?

There’s a lot of change happening for Miranda Lambert, 30, lately. She lost a noticeable amount of weight over the past few months to the point where some people wondered whether she’d gone too far. Now Miranda has cut her very long hair into a bob with side bangs. She showed off the new look at a retro-themed party for her album, Platinum, and her top-of-the-charts single, Automatic. These photos are from that event. It looks fun!

US Weekly clarifies that Miranda didn’t get this new haircut just now, she merely removed the extensions after getting it chopped last month:

In early June, she showed off shoulder-length hair before adding in extensions for promotional appearances later in the month. “I cut her hair three weeks ago before the CMT Awards and CMA Fest,” Lee Wright, stylist at Style House in Nasvhille, tells Us Weekly. “She was ready for a change. But she wanted to wear extensions for her performance.” The length of her newest haircut is the shortest as it falls just below her ears.

I’m honestly surprised at how different she looks. She was looking incredibly glam lately and this cut gives her a kind of “everywoman” look. I’m trying to be gentle because I don’t like it at all, but maybe she’ll add extensions again or style it differently. It’s a little too “puffy” to me and I think it ages her.

Miranda did an interview with Huffpo last week where she talked about her weight loss (everyone asks) and about her relationship with her husband, Blake Shelton. She also said that she’s into shooting guns and that her father, a police officer, taught her gun safety from an early age. I particularly liked Miranda’s thoughts on body image. When the interviewer brought up the subject of role models, Miranda said “I just am who I am… I may be a good role model because I just am always positive about body image: Just be who you are. It doesn’t matter what size, it’s all about who you are on the inside and what you stand for.” (You can see a clip of that interview on Huffpo.)

So maybe Miranda is not so caught up in her image, but I tend to think this hairstyle isn’t ‘her.’ She’s always had lots of big hair. This is definitely a change for her.

How is she 30? I’m three years older and she looks like she could be my mum. I think the cut is flattering though, it’s the colour that’s very wrong.

    • SnarkySnarkers says:

OMG I was thinking the same thing! She is kind of a rough 30. I dont hate the cut but I agree about the color. I almost wish she’d go chocolate brown with this cut.

    • Adrien says:

Pippa Middleton is 30. She could be Miranda Lambert’s auntie.

  2. It is what it is says:

I like it! Change can be good

  3. GiGi says:

I don’t mind a shorter look on her… but this is a terrible style. It’s like a modernized Carol Brady. This is the style of a bank president. Or Angela Merkel.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Senator’s or Senator’s wife hair.

      • Esmom says:

Nailed it, it reminds me of Hilary or Elizabeth Edwards hair. The length is good, she just needs to resist the urge to pouf it out and be edgier with it somehow. She’s never been on my radar, she seems cute.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

        Or a news anchor.

Also, her and her animal-hating husband annoy the shit out of me.

      • Melissa says:

        The original kitten:

animal hating, as in, Cause for Paws, her charity set up to help animals?
You all can be so strange.

    • kri says:

Something is off-think it’s the length. If you get that cut wrong, it can look too Mom. And she would look lovely in a darker color.

    • MoxyLady007 says:

Omg. Yes. Kate Gosselin would wear this. Which is an automatic hell no.

  4. QQ says:

Ooohhhh – um – ermm … Im always here for a short hair but … This is Overfriendly Deacon’s Wife Mother of 3 Married for 25 Years TO THE MAX

    • kri says:

@QQ-spot on. It does make her look like that-the sweet type who is always baking and preaching, but a few pina coladas down and she’d be trying to make out with you behind the garbage cans at the church picnic.

  5. Word Girl says:

I already like it. Miranda has a weird shaped head. And her forehead is big too. When women have big foreheads, like Miranda and Rhianna, short hairstyles look best. Also, bangs, if contoured properly, flatter the protruding head. The long hair was highlighting her flaws. Glad she got rid of it.

    • Dotty says:

      I agree completely!!!
It’s a good cut for the shape of her head.

    • Sugar says:

The size of a lady’s forehead has nothing to do with what length of hair will suit her! Now, I do agree that bangs are good for high foreheads but body size is much more important in determining hair length. A tall woman with broad swimmer shoulders and a high forehead would look awful with short hair as would a plumper lady. Short hair needs a smaller body to go with it. Larger bodies look better with longer hair, otherwise they suffer from pinhead syndrome.

    • MaiGirl says:

I agree. While this hairstyle is a little too conservative, I think the shape overall is flattering. CERTAINLY better than that horrible hair-all-on-one-side look right beneath (I don’t think her weirdly shaped head/forehead has ever looked so alien!). It always cracks me up when celebrities who have just lost weight always want to talk about positive body image and self-esteem and being yourself. Not that I’m against healthy weight loss, but it just always rings so disingenuous!

  6. aenflex says:

I think she looks her age, not older. And she looks good. The new hair isn’t my thing, and I’ve never really liked her. But she looks good, IMO.

    • Kiddo says:

Yeah, she was meh before and now after. I think shorter is probably better, if styled a little differently.

      • Word Girl says:

I think the cut doesn’t have that “wow” effect because it appears to be limp in certain areas, like near her ear. Had the new cut appeared to be full and thick, it would be more attractive.

  7. kcarp says:

the cut is the problem. She needs more of an undercut rather than the layers being on top. Everyone looks older when they are really skinny

    • RobN says:

She’s not really skinny. She’s normal. This is what a woman of a normal healthy weight looks like.

  8. shannon says:

I used to give women a hard time for holding on to their long hair until I cut my hair four years ago right above my shoulders. It took FOREVER to grow out. It’s finally longer and I’m debating the cut again. The problem is, IN MY OPINION, once you hit a certain age, it’s difficult to try new styles with your hair. She’s only 30, so I say go for it while you can.

  9. Marianne says:

If it were styled better, it might be cute. Right now it looks like a 1990’s politician’s wife hairdo.

  10. Hautie says:

This hair cut, is not bad. It takes awhile to figure out how to style shorter do’s… and finding the correct product to hold the style.

As I have harped on this before… but all extensions lead to this… a bob haircut. Period. And worse yet… extensions can lead to baldness, if you don’t walk away from them completely.

A year from now… if Miranda can fight off the fake hair and glue… she will once again have a new look. With her own hair.

  11. amanda says:

30? I assumed she was mid 40s and that is before the poufy mom hair.

    • hunter says:

Me too. Maybe late 30s, I’m astonished to learn she is supposed to only be 30?!?

  12. Lara K says:

In general I always thought she should go shorter. But is is not it.
It makes her look like a 45-year old Junior League president. Ages her terribly.

I’m honestly not sure what is going on with her lately. Shes been experimenting with her look a lot, like she can’t find something she’s happy with.

I liked the younger sassy Miranda and I could totally see why Blake fell for her. Now they both bug me.

  13. JudyK says:

I’d like her hair if it were actually chin length…it’s about 3″ longer than that. A blunt chin-length cut would add body and swing. Right now, it looks stringy and unstyled.

  14. Faye says:

I think short can be cute, but I agree with everyone here that the style is not very flattering. I think she would look great in a more modern, slightly longer, uneven-layer bob. I don’t know if I’m describing it properly, but my friend got a cut like that and it was so cute.

    • GiGi says:

Yes! Right now I’m obsessed with that RHONY Kristen Taekman’s hair. I feel like I must have it! My hubs has a thing about midlength hair, though. He likes mine very short or very long – he once dated a woman who wore hers exactly at her shoulders – no shorter, no longer – for the entire time they were together. It’s an irrational aversion, and I’m working on breaking him down, lol!

    • Esmom says:

Yes, I would love that cut for myself but my hair is too wavy and I refuse to dry my hair except naturally. A friend got that cut last year and lasted only a couple months with it because she couldn’t take the daily drying, either. So she went pixie, which was adorable, but of course she is now trying to grow it long again. I learned to avoid all that by just keeping mine long-ish and not giving into temptation to cut and then regret it.

  15. elo says:

I try to like her…I just don’t. And the hair is way too debutante/ Good Christian B%&$* for me.

  16. Alexa says:

Hmmm . . . I must be OLD and frumpy because I LOVE her new haircut on her. I think it really compliments her face so well. SUPER CUTE AND PRETTY!

    • RobN says:

I like it too. I was really surprised at the criticism of it; I think it looks great.

  17. Happy21 says:

It is cute but she looks like an 1980’s TV anchor woman or something. Maybe if it was styled differently?? It’s not awful and I commend anyone brave enough to make that kind of change but yeah I’m just not feeling it. It doesn’t suit her personality. Too goody goody pretty.

  18. Katie says:

No way is she just now 30. I am about to be 34 and she easily looks like she could be in her early 40s.

  19. aqua says:

I’m almost scared to type this but my hair style is exactly like this except my hair colour is different. So yes I like it.

  20. Zooyork says:

She’s only 30…. Wtf? I seriously though it she was more like 44.

  21. notsoanonymous says:

Well, I’m a Miranda fan and follow her on social media. Since these photos were taken during a party celebrating her single Automatic with the co-writers of the song (the other ladies pictured) and given that the lyrics of the song are about the past, I think the styling of her cut and her outfit overall are based on that.

I’m looking forward to seeing how she styles it otherwise. So far, not a fan of the hair but we shall see.

  22. Velvet Elvis says:

This haircut just draws attention to her weird looking face.

  23. Caz says:

too blonde, needs to cover her botoxy forehead…as others have already said. The length is good.

It’s all a bit Hilary Clinton. Just needs a jacket with big shoulder pads and she’d be good to go.

    Can’t be only 30.
