John Mayer is pitching a reality show: not another one or not a bad idea?

John Mayer Dines Out At Madeo Restaurant
John Mayer predictably dumped his last girlfriend, Katy Perry, when things got serious after he used her for publicity purposes. What’s a pop star to do? Find another famous girlfriend, and when that doesn’t pan out get a reality show. Only it’s not what you might expect from the typical celebrity reality show. Mayer is pitching a reality show in which everyday people nominate their funniest friends to see who’s the most entertaining. He wants Anthony Bourdain to host it, reportedly, so it’s unclear what role Mayer will pay on screen. Maybe he’ll just produce it. Someone told this to US Magazine, which usually gets it straight from a publicist:

John Mayer thinks he has a hit on his hands – but it has nothing to do with music. The seven-time Grammy winner, 36, has been telling pals about his pitch for a new reality show, My Funny Friend. “His concept is: Everything thinks they have a buddy who’s so hysterical, he or she should be in comedy,” a source tells Hot Stuff. [US Weekly]. “So people nominate their friends, and they go through a series of evaluations to determine if they’re actually funny or not.” The… singer already has his ideal host in mind: celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain! Adds the source, “John says it’s a show about ‘dreams.’ He’s telling people, ‘This how much joy there is in seeing a friend happy!'”

[From US Magazine, print edition, July 14, 2014]

As far as reality show competitions go, this one sounds like it could be decent. I would watch an episode to see if it was funny or cringe-worthy. It would really depend on how it’s executed, of course. This is John Mayer, so you get the impression that this is more about inserting himself into television, but that’s true for just about every celebrity/singer who delves into reality TV. At least it won’t be focused on his entourage and his funny buddies, or will it?

Here are some pics of Mayer out last month. He looks super thin. His personal style reminds me of Johnny Depp.

After reading a blind item on Blind Gossip, which deals with a celebrity singer who is into “bubbling” and a popular guess was John Mayer.
I don’t think I could handle watching a reality show with him in it. There are way to many rather disgusting blind items alleged to be him. Gross

Bubbling is INFANTILE! And, of course, so is John Mayer. Forever doomed to be running through the halls of his high school.

    • Bridget says:

Rumors about Master’s icky personal preferences have been around for years – thatwas part of why people were so surprised when he and Aniston hooked up!

  3. Kaye says:

He is completely gross and unattractive to me. I have never understood how women can bear to go out with him.

    • TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

And yet he is actually a great guitarist; my son and friends saw him last year and they’ve been to tons of concerts, and said it was one of the best. But please no more reality shows: the bane and downfall of network tv.

So revolting. Get thee hence, Herpes Megistus.

Agreed!! In fact, I was JUST thinking about him yesterday and what a total screw-up he has been with women 100%, wow. When both Katy Perry and Jennifer Aniston hooked up with him, I was aghast!! What about Taylor Swift, too? Geez. He already had a bad rep and can’t seem to last with women, he’s just not a good fit for anyone, but I guess they had to find out for themselves, and they did !! His dressing style is also ‘atrocious,’ but he and Katy were not that far apart on that level. Okay, on the Music level, he is a fantastic song writer and musician, definitely one of the best, BUT sorry, he’s a douche in all the other ways…..

    Meh – I just can’t with this guy. I won’t watch it because it’s his show …

  5. Size Does Matter says:

Cat sweater on a grown man. I assume he lost a bet. Either way, it renders him unf<ckable, even if he told me my body is a wonderland.

He had a reality-type one time special on VH1 years ago which was a comedy. I was surprised by how funny and clever the show was.

Poor guy. Still struggling with his sexual orientation. Bite the bullet already, Johnny.
