Keira Knightley Wants to Gain Weight (update)

Keira Knightley is apparently sick of being thin and a role model to anorexics, and says that Beth Ditto from The Gossip has the ‘most amazing body’.

Yeah, I know people are going to cry bullshit to what she says in her interview, but I actually believe her when she says she wants to gain weight. I just find it hard to believe she thinks Beth Ditto is her “body beautiful” role model.

From London’s Metro:

Super skinny Hollywood star Kiera Knightley says she would prefer to look like Beth Ditto than an anorexic.

The actress said she has tried to put on weight after being labelled a role model for anorexics and added the chunky Gossip lead singer is ’so sexy’ and has the ‘most amazing body’.

Miss Knightley said she was devastated when 19-year-old Sophie Mazurek died of anorexia and her mother blamed celebrities citing an image of Miss Knightley looking particularly thin after filming Pirates of the Caribbean.

The image was also used by pro-anorexia websites. She said: ‘I went to the doctor to be checked out and asked him what I could do to put on weight. He told me that for someone of my body type to get to a size 12, I would have to eat a lot of shit food, stop exercising and drink loads.

‘Basically, my body type is naturally thin. There is nothing I can do about it.’

Talking about seeing Ditto at a Gossip gig she told Elle magazine: ‘When she was performing she started taking all her clothes off. I stood there watching her strip, thinking, ‘Oh my God, that woman is so sexy.’

I know a lot of people are just going to tell Keira that all she has to do is eat Big Mac’s everyday for a month and she’ll gain weight, but I do sympathise with her. I have a super fast metabolism and tend to lose weight really easily, especially when I am stressed out, and I’ve never suffered from an eating disorder. My boyfriend spends his time trying to feed me huge bars of Cadbury Milk Chocolate just so that I can maintain the weight I am now.

There’s nothing with embracing the way you are. I think Beth Ditto’s body confidence is sexy — I’d kill to have half the confidence she has about her body. But I am going to say this (and probably get lambasted for this later): Beth Ditto is overweight, and being overweight causes another set of health problems for people. Reading Keira’s statement, I think she means she admires Beth Ditto’s confidence, and not that she wants to look like Ditto, as she said later on in the interview to Elle that if she were to pick her perfect celebrity body, it would be Monica Belucci — a healthy, curvy actress.

Why can’t celebrities just find a nice healthy medium? Why do attitudes towards weight in Hollywood have to sway to such extremes? Why can’t it be OK to eat salads and have the slice of cake if you are still hungry? Oh for the curvy starlets of the past, like Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth. I doubt they felt that much pressure to monitor what they ate back then.

Picture note by Celebitchy: Here are a bunch of pictures of Beth Ditto. Pictures of Ditto in the bronze lame outfit are from CelebWarship.

Update by Celebitchy: Many commentors have noted that Ditto is an accomplished and unique vocalist, that she was named coolest person of 2006 by NME, that she has a column in UK paper The Guardian, and that these pictures are incredibly unflattering and seem unfair to her.

This post was written by Jessie, and I added the pictures. I did choose the most shocking pictures of Ditto, and that’s usually the mode I work in when picking photos. I did a google image search and there were many photos of her half-dressed, so those are the ones I chose. I like to think that it’s more the nature of celebrity gossip than a deliberate or subconscious weightism on my part.

Here is a more flattering picture of her, and please accept my apology and realize that we are not picking fun of her weight but just being gossips as usual.
