Chrissy Teigen developed an ulcer from eating fast food 25 days in a row

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen has a new show on MTV called “Snack Off.” It sounds really gross. Chrissy describes it as a stoner cooking show. Sort of like “Top Chef” but with food that even a starving college student wouldn’t choose to eat. Chrissy filmed the show for 25 days straight and ate toxic concoctions 6 times per day. She said the food affected her health by causing an ulcer in her esophagus: “I’ve never felt so horrible in my life.” Less than a month of fast food can cause an ulcer? Ouch.

Chrissy visited Seth Meyers to promote this new gig, and she talked about how John Legend was a contestant. He made one of the worst recipes, apparently. It’s a good thing he has other talents. Chrissy says her other talent, modeling, is something she doesn’t take seriously at all. She’s previously tweeted about being “old” for a model. Good for her for supplementing with other gigs. Here are some highlights from Chrissy’s Seth Meyers appearance:

Does she take modelling seriously? “I do not. Do you take modelling seriously?”

Modelling as a job: “For me, I think I’m very lucky to be able to just … I am paid a good amount of money to not blink for 12 hours. That’s all that ends up having to happen. Listen, you get to travel, meet a lot of people, it’s fun, but I don’t take it very seriously, no. [sheepishly] I’m really selling myself here.”

About “Snack Off”: “I’m very excited about it. I had been tweeting about my favorite snacks. Really ‘munchies’ type food? Yeah, junk food. It turned into this competition show, which is basically ‘Top Chef’ but a little bit dirtier type of cuisine: Hot Pockets, hot dogs, oatmeal pies. I think one of the most fascinating things I had the honor of eating was a piece of Texas toast with a canned oyster on top with a diced maraschino cherry just sprinkled on top.

The John Legend special: “My husband was on the last episode, and he made definitely one of the top-worst things I had. He made a chicken tender … so he boiled mayonnaise with soy sauce. It was one of the most pungent, putrid things I’ve ever had in my life. But on the episode, the other contestant made a delicious oatmeal pie with fried bologna. This is how crazy the show is when this is one of the most fantastic things.”

All of the food Chrissy was talking about sounds disgusting, and she knows it. This is a woman who took a special ramen vacation to Japan so she could eat the real stuff instead of Top Ramen. I doubt she enjoyed eating nasty food from MTV “chefs,” but she’s a good sport. Plus she got paid.

Side note: I’m always taken aback by Seth Meyers’ interviewing style. He’s even more awkward than Jimmy Fallon, but Fallon somehow gets away with his frenetic nervous energy. Seth seems like a nice guy (almost too nice), but he’s trying wayyy too hard. Dude needs to relax a little.

When I was a kid I used to chew up a saltine cracker, spit it out and spread it on top of another saltine cracker like it was a pâté. Then I would offer it to my older sister and her friends.

Could I be a contestant on this show?

    • Jaderu says:

      LOL made my day.

@Clucky, after a morning of feeling pissed at the idocy of some of the celebs featured on the site….you gave me a good laugh. Thank you!

      • Amy Tennant says:

I had a friend who made sandwiches with cheese, ketchup and mushed-up vienna sausages. I still want to hork a little thinking about it!

I hate cut out dresses, it doesn’t look good on anyone…not even a model

  3. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

So tiny, Chrissy & John look like they’d fit into my old Barbie van.

I love that she knows where modeling stands in terms of being a real job. That she can just say “yeah, I get paid a ton of $$ to do nothing and travel.” I hate it when models try and say how they work SO HARD. I mean, come on! I dont hate on you for being a model, I would take that gig in a heartbeat..but lets not play like it’s hard.

    • Lauraq says:

Depending on the type of modeling, it can be hard. And let’s not play like being a size 0 comes easily to most people.

I was always under the impression ulcers were caused by a certain bacteria ? Perhaps the food she ate was contaminated? If you have an existing ulcer, fast good would make it worse of course.

    • WickedSteppMom says:

That’s only one cause of ulcers (the bacteria you’re thinking of is H. Pylori.) Overproduction/imbalance of digestive acids can also cause them-which is why I’ve been on a proton pump inhibitor for 13 years…because it feels like I’m on fire from (ahem) entrance to exit without it. You can also get them from continued use of NSAID medications.

      • word says:

Wow really? I didn’t know that…thanks for clarifying.

      • Happy.Phantom says:

        H. pylori is the No.1 cause of peptic and duodenal ulcers. Acid reflux & vomiting constantly can cause esophageal ulcers.
taking certain medications like NSAID’s and steroids and as said above me – overproduction of acid which is exacerbated by smoking, alcohol, caffeine and fatty foods (the first three are very popular with models, as a friend of mine who is modeling told me – their breakfast/lunch/dinner is basically coffee and cigs). I doubt that junk food was the sole reason it happened.

    • laurie says:

You can also get an ulcer from binging and purging. The constant acid reflux and the force of throwing up can cause it.

I may be the only person on earth who feels this way (besides his wife), but I find Seth Meyers so adorable. Awkward, yes, but still adorable.

I love how into food and cooking she is, but knows how to have fun and isn’t pretentious about it. My two favorite food moments with her were her hours-long drunk cake-baking adventure and the twitter dinner party, where she got hundreds of people to attempt the same recipe as her one evening.

  9. jesssayin says:

Ugh yes, I love Seth but some of his interviews are cringe worthy! I predict he won’t be hosting for long…

  10. JH says:

The caked-on pink blush distracted me so much that I couldn’t really find her charming or funny (which I think she was aiming for??).

  11. Sabrine says:

Seth is a little over eager but I’d take him over Letterman and Leno any day. Letterman is ridiculous, almost unwatchable, and Leno used to tease the guests in a really dumb way and touch them to get their attention. Meyers doesn’t get on my nerves so if he can tone it down a little, he’ll be a really good interviewer.

I love that she’s a supermodel who actually eats.

  13. Nene says:

I think Chrissy should cut her husband John Legend some slack with the bad cooking.
At least he can sing her to sleep with his soulful voice. I’ll bet she was his inspiration for ‘All of me’.

  14. TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

No offense to her but she pales in comparison to the supermodels of the 90s – and even second and third tier models – Elaine Irwin, Claudia Mason, Veronica Webb, Meghan Douglas, Beri Smither, etc. – were more attractive, better models, and classier. But, hey, go for it girl.

You don’t need to go to Japan for great ramen. In LA we have some amazing and incredible places to get fresh ramen! I was in the dark for so long about real ramen, and now I am addicted.

    • TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

One of the travel mags I subscribe to had an article this year about Japanese ramen – apparently the stuff we eat and call ramen isn’t even close to real ramen – but there are unfortunately no such restaurants in my locale. Eat hearty.

      • Tiffany :) says:

When i lived in the midwest, the only thing I knew of ramen was the styrofoam cup kind. So different from the real thing! My tummy is very fortunate because of the vibrant immigrant culture in LA, we have a lot of ramen places that are very authentic with handmade noodles and broths that cook for nearly a week. One of the places I have found is run by Chef Omae. He’s a twice Michelin starred chef from Japan, and he makes a burnt miso ramen that is incredibly delicious. I feel like I have a buzz after I eat it! He does a healthier version of ramen, but there are also places that do the more traditional style, full fat.

    • Yep says:

Real ramen that you get in Japan is way too rich. The stock is typically heavily based on pig bone. With the salt, you end up feel worse than you do after a bowl of cream-based pasta.

  16. mytbean says:

    I doubt it because –

“Peptic ulcers were formerly thought to be caused by stress, coffee consumption, or spicy foods. Now it is clear that about 60% of peptic ulcers are caused by a bacterial infection that can usually be cured. Another 20% are caused by nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin and ibuprofen (Advil, Nuprin, etc.), and another 20% have miscellaneous causes such as cigarettes or no clear cause.”

    but whatever…
