Novak Djokovic & Jelena Ristic’s wedding photos cover Hello: cute?

hello novak

Some of us are still heartbroken about Novak Djokovic’s victory over Roger Federer at Wimbledon last week. But if you stayed glued to your TVs after the game, you would have heard Novak reference his pregnant fiancée and how they would be marrying soon. Well, the wedding went down last week and they sold the photos to Hello. I like that Hello chose a photo of Novak where he doesn’t look so much like Lurch. Too mean? Sorry. He’s a great tennis player (he’s currently ranked #1 in the world) but my heart still belongs to Federer.

Tennis champ Novak Djokovic says he ‘couldn’t ask for more’ after tying the knot with his pregnant childhood sweetheart just days after winning the men’s title at Wimbledon. The 27-year-old Serbian-born sportsman exchanged vows with Jelena Ristic in the grounds of Montenegro’s Aman Sveti Stefan resort on Thursday.

The bride – who is expecting their first child – wore a gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, the designer of the Duchess Of Cambridge’s wedding dress.

Djokovic told Hello!: ‘Seeing her for the first time in her wedding dress, smiling and walking towards me – she looked like an angel.’ Djokovic told the magazine, which had the rights to the ceremony, ‘I was trying to be present in that moment and memorise it. I was focused on her, and her smile and our baby. It really was a perfect moment.’

Ristic said: ‘I was very nervous and everything seemed a blur. I was seeing him through tears and immediately started crying when I saw him. I was just so happy and probably being pregnant makes it quite difficult to control the emotions. I am so blessed to have him in my life. I couldn’t ask for a better partner than him. The wedding was everything we hoped it would be. Our family and closest friends united in a beautiful setting in celebration of our love. It was truly emotional and unforgettable for us.’

The pair married on Thursday, just four days after Djokovic beat Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final and dedicated his five-set victory – his second Wimbledon win – to his fiancee and ‘our future baby’.

Djokovic told the magazine that marrying in the wake of his win made it even more special. ‘I am marrying the woman I love and there is no better feeling than that,’ he said. ‘To win Wimbledon and to now be preparing for fatherhood – I couldn’t ask for more.’

[From The Daily Mail]

It’s nice. He seems like a sweetheart off the court, and I guess Jelena is his childhood sweetheart? Or they’ve been together for a really long time, something like that. He seems really proud that he’s going to become a dad soon and he seems to adore her. But here’s what I really love, and what is making me like him a little bit: his dogs. Or, his dogs with Jelena. I was looking through his Twitter to find photos, and I came across these glorious photos of Novak and Jelena with their fluffy puppies. I love a big guy who loves little dogs.

    I too am a FedHead.

    • Jessica says:

Same here. Kind of heartbroken he didn’t get another Wimbledon, but I like Novak so I’m happy for him. And I am SOOOOO glad it wasn’t Nadal. I know I’m in the minority on this one, but everything about him just irritates me. He’s annoyed the crap out of me since Day One. And I remember reading something this year about how he’s kind of gotten a reputation for using injury timeouts as gamesmanship, and that’s from people who really follow his matches, so I don’t feel bad about my hatred towards him.

      • Tessy says:

I really like “the Joker” and his old imitation of Federer was spot on, fed’s backhand is very ballet-like.

I like Federer, he’s naturally regal, and he reminds me of Laurence Olivier.

Nadal’s constant rear end picking is very distracting, if he has OCD that’s one thing but as far as I know he claims he does not have it. Plus he takes too long between points.

The one time Robin Soderling called him out for his annoying habits he got trashed by the media. I know Soderling had a reputation as aloof , but I was hoping he was going to grow into a champ but he got mono and retired. He was and still is the only one to beat Nadal at the French Open too.

I’m hoping to go to Cinci!!

  2. Karen says:

They did that pinterest make a heart with your hands pose.

    No. Not cute.

    • Tapioca says:

It’s completely irrational, but the hand-heart makes me want to punch a wall. That and duck lips.

Otherwise they are very cute together, plus she’s been with him since before he was a sleb, so nothing but warm, fuzzy thoughts here.

    • Tanguerita says:

      +10000- I can’t with it, it’s so tacky.

    • Cricket says:

I too thought it was very tacky but then read she is pregnant so to me, it’s not so bad. It’s like he is doing the heart thing for the baby.

    • Stubbylove says:

Totally agree. He seems like a nice guy & I’m happy for them but I Just can’t get over what a dork he is and his huge egg-head. TEAM RAFA!!!!

  3. Sixer says:

Lurch?! Harsh. I love Nole (and particularly his bottom). Congrats to them.

    • allons-y alonso says:

Ah, Sixer – Nole’s bum. The truth has been spoken! He’s my favourite tennis player. I’m pleased he won Wimbledon. Congrats to the happy couple

    • Sixer says:

      @ allons

Mr Sixer calls him Telly’s Best Bum to mock me. But I don’t care. It is a truly glorious bottom!

    • feebee says:

      Here here!

You might like to thank UniQlo…. the cut of their shorts really do him justice.

  4. SpookySpooks says:

And some of us are really happy Novak won. He seems like a great guy, he reminds me of Ivanišević because he’s goofy on the court. Jelena is really pretty, and she has a really pretty name.

    • Sixer says:

And he’s the only one to applaud great shots by opponents – DURING the match. They’re all media-trained to death and none of them ever forget to be humble and acknowledge the talent of the loser in the post-match interviews, but only Nole applauds greatness during the match. I love that about him.

      • What? says:

        What a great comment.

      • DameEdna says:

He was a holy terror in his younger days……injury timeouts, gamesmanship, family shrieking during points. If you haven’t already, check out an Andy Roddick presser on YouTube (roddick djokovic SARS)……flippin hilarious.

Still, he’s hardened up since then……nowhere near the GOAT, tho.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

That’s so nice. I love good sportsmanship, and it’s not very common in the world today.

    • Wallamalooo says:

+1000000!! I love him, he’s gorgeous and a sweetheart and she’s beautiful – congrats!!! (And yes, the Lurch thing WAS mean :P)

      • chloe says:

I love Novak, there was a 60 minutes on him a few years ago and he seemed so humble and to have grown up in a war torn country and to make it where he is now I have nothing but respect for him.

      • Locke says:

War torn country? As far as I know, Serbia was bombed by NAto for 3 months because of the war in Kosovo, but that’ it. That’s hardly growing up in a war torn country. I would understand if he was from Kosovo, Bosnia or Croatia, but Serbia?

      • Sixer says:

Ignore – was replying to Locke before Locke edited.

      • Helene says:

@Locke Serbia’s _infrastructure_ was bombed for three months and it really took its toll on a already poor country. Also keep in mind the trade boycott that lasted for several years. The members of my family (the children) who grew up in Serbia during the nineties still suffer from the damage of malnutrition due to the trade boycott. Although it does not, of course, justify Milocevic’ actions I can believe it was not easy for Djokovic growing up.

      • Geekychick says:

@Helena I’m sorry to hijack the conversation, but that’s just patently untrue: I know Serbian politicians like to present it as such, but come on: Serbia was bombarded for 3 months by NATO, and 90%of bombs fell on military or strategic buildings in 1 city-Serbia bombarded it’s neighbouring countries for years-cities, churches, schools. factories, roads, graveyards, UNESCO heritage sites-on purpose, it was a state policy to annihilate any traces of people and the culture that was not theirs. NATO bombing was the answer to Serbia trying to start fourth war in 10 years.
The country had great help from “mother Russia” the whole time, no matter the embargoes. Malnutrition? Sorry, but I think that’s reaching-I work close to the border and know many people from the country-not one talks about malnutrition. Then again, I stopped drinking milk for 10 years bc we couldn’t afford it during 5years of attack by Milosevic and JNA, so maybe they are just considerate.
Serbia was not a victim of Balkan wars-it was the instigator. Peaceful living in SE Europe will never be reached by rewriting history.

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

I am so happy he won, have never liked Federer’s attitude at all, such a sore loser and not well liked on the circuit. As opposed to Novak who is funny and talented and has poodles, adorable! I will forgive the twee cover pose, it’s their wedding day and they are having a baby, they are beaming with happiness and can do what they please. At least he put her centre stage, unlike that nitwit Timberlake.

      • DameEdna says:

Federer not well liked on the circuit? Where did you get that from? He’s been awarded the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award 9 times…,…voted by fellow professionals.

As far as I know, he’s never called for inappropriate medical time-outs or indulged in gamesmanship that borders on cheating. He made some time to train with a young Aussie player and shows great respect for the elders and traditions of the game.

      • Gea says:

Omg…Locke !!!! How ignorant you are? Have you ever been somewhere where bombs are dropping down and have you experianced being an innocence young person trown in the political turmoil, conflict, war.

      • Lollipop says:

I don’t think she meant he didn’t have a hard childhood, what she meant is that Serbia wasn’t a war-torn country because there wasn’t any war on Serbian soil.

      • Mrs. Darcy says:

@DameEdna : I don’t think it’s any secret that R.Fed is not friends with most of the other players, regardless of some award for his undisputed impeccable game. You can respect someone, which I think they all do, of course, and not necessarily like them. Numerous times I have seen him leave the court after a loss rather than wait for the other player, or give very minimal credit after a hard won match, or even more, a defeat. He has not sided with the players in many complaints they have had around the tournament – he is just totally, blandly neutral, a machine. I do not deny he is a once in a lifetime talent and his game is a work of art, but personally he leaves me cold. I prefer my tennis players to have visible passion, it’s just personal taste, I felt the same away about Sampras. Obviously it works for him, he is a great champion, a magnificent player, but I do like to see more emotional vitality on display in the sport, as it’s one of the few I like to watch.

      • Anne tommy says:

Am with you on the anti Fed express, he’s far too smug and his own biggest fan. Rafa Nadal or Andy Murray please ( only for tennis purpose, no-one to fancy since Marat Safin retired)

    • booboobird says:

I wasn’t rooting for either of the guys, but his speech at the end was nice. Almost more about Federer than anything else. Visually I also like Djokovic’s face better.
didn’t know that Serbians wear a wedding ring on their right hand as well. Congrats on their nuptials and parenthood.

      • DameEdna says:

@Mrs Darcy…..not to be too argumentative but the Edberg award is given for how one conducts oneself in the locker room, around one’s fellow pros….nothing to do with his sublime game.Federer was also among the other very well-paid players who lobbied for higher prize money for the journeymen on the circuit.

There’s many things to love about tennis…..Nadal’s brutality, David Ferrer scurrying madly, Wawrinka’s glorious backhand, Novak’s awesome return of serve…all of that and much more. But it’s easy to forget that Fed works damned hard to play at the level he consistently does (did). There may not be much VISIBLE passion but the passion is there……he could never have achieved what he has without it.
So, I’ll choose purity and grace at the tennis and enjoy the emotional vitality of a game of Aussie Rules football. Anyway, it would be a dull old place if we all loved the same things.

      • Laurie says:

Can’t understand how everyone can’t see how open, genuine, humorus & caring Djokovic is. If you read his book, he tells how he was running down a street with a guided bomb coming over him in the sky not a great distance above him and it scared the young family so much as they were all running down the street running for their lives and Novak tripped and fell and the bomb passed him and blew up a building of some kind right in front of him. That’s a hard upbringing. And he does lots for charity and to make peoe laugh. What is not to like?!?!

  5. Miranda says:

I met Novak almost 6 years ago. I didn’t really know who he was though and called him ‘Novo’ to his face a few times and he didn’t even correct me. He was such a gentleman and extremely generous with his time despite the fact he had just bombed out of a tournament. I was with my work colleagues and we were all blown away by what a decent, grounded person he seemed. I will always have a soft spot for Novo !

  6. CaribbeanLaura says:

Ha. Feder-who? I have loved Novak ever since I saw him play in the US open in 2007. Like someone up thread mentioned, he seems to be so much more natural and relaxed than some of these guys. I think Roger Federer is a cyborg, and that’s scary to me. That being said the hand heart stomach thing needs to stop.

  7. Illyra says:

Novak is seriously charming as hell… I love him.

  8. DameEdna says:

As a rabid FedHead, I love that the Federers don’t feel the need to sell photographs of special times in their lives. Their marriage, the birth of their children…..all announced on Roger’s website.

I find it beyond tacky when multimillionaires sell themselves to magazines, although I’m willing to eat my words if it emerges that the loot is destined for Djokovic’s charitable foundation.

Also, Rog and Mirka have the best hair in tennis…..bar none.

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

Eh, Federer rakes in the cash with adverts, he’s not exactly a shrinking violet, plus his smug monogrammed branding is pretty tacky imo. He has sold himself as a model thanks to his looks, Novak is a less obvious choice for fashion brands, etc. (I know he has some sponsors and will no doubt be boosted by Wimbledon but he will never earn like R. Fed) so I don’t begrudge him this magazine spread.

      • DameEdna says:

Novak has plenty of sponsors, doubt he’s in need of the cash. Yes, he’ll probably never make the kind of money Federer does but I doubt if he’ll ever need to rock up to the poorhouse.

Sponsorships and non-tennis related advertising deals bear no comparison to selling exclusive rights to your wedding when the wolf’s hardly at your door! My opinion only.,…..and I’ll say the same thing if Leo and Lenny Federer pop up in Hello.

      • Laurie says:

No doubt they will use the magazine income for charity. It is who they are. And they appreciate their fans – not snobs who have hide away their ultra posh and sofisticated weddings from mere mortals

    • vinfobox says:

According to this report the money is in fact going to charity.

  9. Pumpkin Pie says:

I like his heart hands on her stomach. It’s like marking the presence of the baby + love.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Me, too, Pumpkin Pie. I get why people think it’s corny, but it made me “awww” since she’s pregnant. We can be saps together. Lol

      • amara says:

We did that same heart over my giant belly for our maternity pics…I think it’s adorable. They look great!

  10. The Original Mia says:

Have to agree with DameEdna, the Federers have the best hair. He’s my fave.

Novak grew on me. I like how he plays and doesn’t whine. He’s a gracious winner and loser. The only one I actively dislike is Murray.

Congrats on his marriage & baby.

    • Esti says:

I feel the same way. LOVE Fed, don’t mind the others, hate Murray.

      • Wallamalooo says:

Can I just ask – and this is not a snarky question or me having a go, promise! – but why do you hate Murray? He’s a funny, talented bloke who, let us not forget, survived the Dunblane massacre and did for us Brits what no MAN had done for 76 years. He’s a decent sort so I don’t know where the hate comes from – his demeanour is sometimes dour but that’s not the measure of the man.

      • Esti says:

No worries, I’m happy to answer. 🙂 I think he has very poor sportsmanship — constantly throwing rackets, loudly cursing, screaming, yelling things about his opponent during the match, generally being a sore loser, clutching at “injuries” whenever he’s down in a match (and sometimes acting as though he’s dying until they call in a trainer and then suddenly being in perfect shape), etc. Of course all players have their moments of frustration, but he has a lot more than most and he expresses them worse than most.

I know that a lot of Brits love him for the Olympics/Wimbledon, and I don’t really blame you for it. But I find him an incredibly unappealing player, and I don’t think he’s anywhere near the same league as Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.

  11. hindulovegod says:

I’ve had the good fortune to see all members of the Big 4 during practice sessions. I came away disliking Murray, who blames any and all members of his entourage, save himself, for his mistakes. (He behaves like a toddler in a professional context. It was ghastly.) At the other end of the spectrum is Djokovic. He was self-effacing, but professional. He practiced on a small side court, with no fuss, and made quips about his rare mishits. It was fun to watch.

    • Val says:

Murray has always given me a bad feeling… like he’s a childish douche. I see my gut wasn’t off…

  12. OTHER RENEE says:

Well, the dogs did it for me. Too cute. And I have no problem with the heart thing. She’s lovely.

  13. feebee says:

I was in this guy’s corner as soon as he emerged. So I’ll probably come across as a major apologist. He’s always been the lovely guy we see now, the ‘holy terror’ in his younger days were a mix of youth, inexperience, inability to organize his frustrations and genuine health issues. He’s always had an issue with extreme heat and has had trouble breathing (still occasionally bothers him in Australia’s heat) plus the whole gluten thing which has been gently ridiculed even by Mr Perfect, Roger Federer (who by the way had his own anger management problems in his youth nicely whitewashed away because nobody noticed him until he was about 21 or so).

Even at number one he still doesn’t get the credit of a Federer or Nadal, maybe he rubs some the wrong way but he’s a talent and personality I hope is around for a long time. Off the court his foundation is starting to blossom, and he’s obviously got the perfect partner and I hope they have a great time as parents. He’s sounds so stoked about it.

Can’t wait for Cincy and US Open!

  14. wow says:

It’s cute with the way he made a heart over her pregnant belly, but they don’t draw me in as an adorable couple in the way Roge & Mirka do.

But I like them and wish them continued blessings.

  15. Sixer says:

Wow. Some fan snark for tennis! I just feel the need to offer tennis love to just about ALL the men on the circuit! I might have a preference for Nole the Bum, but I like all of them. I can’t think of one that I actually dislike.

  16. dahlia1947 says:

I love Novak! He’s my favorite tennis player and I am oh so happy that he beat Federer! 😀 Him and his wife are so cute together, and she seems like a classy girl. I wish the best for them!

  17. aqua says:

He seems to be really sweet and they make a lovely couple.Congrats.
