Will Tom Hiddleston appear at Comic-Con to promote ‘Crimson Peak’?

TH3

When Tom Hiddleston came to Comic-Con last year, it was a HUGE surprise. All of the Comic-Con nerds knew that Marvel was going to be promoting Thor: The Dark World and showing some advanced footage, but Tommy was not scheduled to come to San Diego. Marvel organized his appearance on the downlow, and Tommy even said that he had to dress in Jango Fett costume so no one would know it was him. Then he appeared, in costume, as Loki and had all of the Dragonflies kneel before him. It was an amazing stunt.

So, will Tommy stunt-queen again? Comic-Con starts next week and Legendary Pictures just announced that Guillermo del Toro will be on hand to promote Crimson Peak, the film starring Tommy, Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam. Out of those three actors, which is the one who has a reputation for going above and beyond the call of duty to promote his films? Right? So… will Tommy Hiddleston come to Comic-Con this year?!

The part that makes me really wonder is that Crimson Peak isn’t due out until October 2015. That’s a long way away, which makes me wonder if Del Toro’s appearance has more to do with placating his fan-boys about a multitude of projects, and it’s less about Crimson Peak specifically (so there would be no need for Tommy to come).

Also: Benedict Cumberbatch is already scheduled to appear. Some people think Marvel is going to announce him for Dr. Strange. Would that make Tommy cry?

If Hiddles and BC showed up, Comic Con would have an unexpected laundry situation on their hands.

    • Hello Kitty says:

Sweet Jesus. Tumblr would lose their collective sh*t.

      • fairyvexed says:

Tumblr’s already losing their shit. Sienna Guillory tweeted a snarky one liner about the fangirls. Funny, the ones who hurl nasty sexist slurs at any woman who doesn’t applaud their behavior are now suddenly discovering their, er, feminism.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

@fairy…. that last remark made me laugh so much… we were discussing that tweet yesterday…. hilarious… oh this fandom is just ludicrous…

      • M.A.F. says:

That is not feminism those girls are displaying. It their maturity level. To tweet her back by being mean and some of the stuff they are saying Tumblr is laughable and I hope those type of fans go away soon. Annoying the lot of them.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

        @M.A.F. I think @fairy was being cynical… about the feminist part… 🙂

Also hope they vanish..I do (to some extent) pity the rest of the cast and crew…

      • Lindy79 says:

        wow…that certainly a reaction.

      • M.A.F. says:

@Nighty-oh. I hadn’t had my coffee yet when I read that.

      • Leah says:

I read Sienna Guillory’s tweets. I think she was being a little snarky snark and a bit condescending but the reactions have been ridiculous. They say she is fan shaming. What? Has our society descended to such mamby pamby lows that fan shaming qualifies as an offense? God so many things to be outraged over in this world and this is what they pick? Quick melt the polar cap!

      • ava says:

Google her….she usually appears in very little and in some cases no clothes. So much for her “motherly comments”. I could care less about her comments, but her tweets were stupid. It makes her look like an attention whore. She also keeps responding. Today she is back paddling like crazy saying what a gentlemen TH is. She needs a new PR person. However, before this NO ONE except a few die hard Resident Evil fans knew who she was. So I guess bad PR is good PR……

    • Intro Outro says:

I’m seriously intrigued by what Cumby’s there for! Marvel have said they’d be announcing a new “thunderous” title on The View tomorrow, and they’re still teasing fans about who’ll be Dr. Strange.. Dammit, I’m excited – and I’m not even a MCU fan lol.

    • feebee says:

      Antibacterial wipes?

And seriously @ Intro Outro are Marvel really making the announcement on The View???? Core audience?

      • Intro Outro says:

No idea, @feebee. Here’s the link: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/ABARy/news/?a=103588 Genre borders have become so fuzzy lately that nothing surprises me anymore.

      • Clairewobble says:

The View’s parent company is Disney which also owns Marvel.

I really do hope Cumby got the Dr. Strange role. I remember it was also posted here on CB that he got the part since last Dec 2013. This also explains why he’s been doing comic cons in Australia may be to practice for a bigger crowd in San Diego.

    • icerose says:

just imagine it though pictures of Benny looking up into Tommy’s eyes as the quote Shakespeare, compare Alan Rickman impressions and discuss their respective fan base followed by a a little two step disco dancing

      • Vesta says:

        @icerose

your scenario sounds PERFECT. May I just suggest that the disco dancing goes on for so long that it ends up to a little hot B&T lambada dance? (I’m 100% serious of course)

      • Janeite says:

LOL, icerose! I still want them to do the tango together, dammit!

      • icerose says:

@Janiette @Vesta let them dance all night as long as we get some of it on film and they agree to do Celebrity Come Dancing this Christmas

      • Abby_J says:

I need this to happen……..In my house. Really. I don’t even usually go for Cumby, but this I would love to see.

  2. Dani says:

    Cumby…bye!

    • M.A.F. says:

He is mentioned in the write up as well so I think it is safe to say both can/will be talked about w/o hijacking the thread. I hope Cumberbatch goes to the Hobbit panel.

  3. MissMary says:

I doubt he’ll turn up but I would sincerely love to see him and BC hanging out together, trying to navigate the fans without losing their cool.

    • Lindy79 says:

They’d spend their time avoiding fangirls, it would be safer to just stay in their rooms.
Both of them in SanDiego during ComicCon…. Poor guys wouldn’t have a hope.

      • MissMary says:

LOL I’m sure it’s really irritating and possibly scary to be in the thick of a fan-crush situation but I’m picturing these two trying to politely get security to help them to their rooms (In an entirely different hotel, in another city, just to be safe).

      • Isadora says:

At this point they would both need to appear in Jango Fett costumes just to avoid the fangirls. Or maybe they could dress up as Power Rangers? 😀

      • fairyvexed says:

San Diego itself would be in danger. It’d be like a disaster movie.

      • 'P'enny says:

        @fairyvexed

        Attack of the 50ft Sherloki

        [1950’s b movie for those who didn’t get the joke 😉 ]

    • MissMary says:

*snort* Now all I can picture is the two of them wearing Jango Fett or Storm Trooper costumes, apologizing profusely for not being in the new Star Wars movies, then going out and get shit-faced and dancing in some nightclub while KPopStarz or whatever that site is posts about how Benedict didn’t bring his secret gf because Tommy didn’t bring his.

    • 'P'enny says:

weren’t they at Tiff together last Autumn? Tom for OLLA and Benny for that rubbish, but they weren’t papped together as far as i know?

      • mazzie says:

Yeah but I think not at the same time? Cumberbatch was in on the first week and gone by that Sunday. Flying visit.

    • Lips flowers says:

I would actually prefer to see Tom hang around with Hemsworth, Evans, Ruffalo. RDJ, and SLJ. They’re fun together. And I know this is going against the popular vote here but I don’t see Cumberbatch in the role of Strange.

      • jammypants says:

Plus it wouldn’t fit into his already crammed schedule. He has a 2 month window in the spring and with Marvel, you have to clear out 6 months in the year to film. No way Marvel will shift their schedule for any actor other than RDJ or injuries (or an injured RDJ). They operate on a very strict timeline.

  4. Intro Outro says:

Hellboy fans will definitely want to be placated – me included, actually, bc Hellboy 1&2 are probably my fav comic book films.

BUT Pacific Rim fans will definitely have what to celebrate – me included, actually, because I have finally watched it and I liked it so much more than the horrible Transformers: Age of Extinction which imo are a pile of kaiju crap compared to jaegers 😀

    • Lindy79 says:

Plus hasn’t he that new show The Strain that he’s involved with.

      • Intro Outro says:

He’s its director and writer. The show’s just premiered and has got mixed reviews: critics praise its visual aspect but say it’s shallow and derivative =/

I really hope Crimson Peak will not turn out to be all about looks (and kinks) without any substance.

      • Kate2 says:

I watched The Strain. I personally thought it was good, a little cheesy, but the last few scenes creeped me out a lot, not gonna lie.

    • Isadora says:

I have yet to see Pacific Rim. Was Max Martini (Herc Hansen) any good in it?

      • Intro Outro says:

He was very credible, I actually liked all PR actors. The film has its minuses – there are some cheesy scenes, the storyline is quite blockbuster-y lol – but at the same time it has a lot of big pluses, too, including some unexpected plot turns (I particularly liked GDT’s take on the main romantic storyline). Visually it is stunning and very engaging. If you have time – and are ready to cut the film’s genre-related imperfections some slack – then I highly recommend it ^_^

      • Isadora says:

Thank you! I think I will watch it… Max Martini is quite yummy. Pity that I missed in cinema, I think the movie is even better on a big screen.

      • Dara says:

@Isadora – I thought I was the only one who a) knows who Max Martini is, and b) will seek out shows I wouldn’t normally watch based solely on if he is in them. He’s such an under-rated actor, I really enjoy his work. And yes, very yummy. I keep waiting for him to hit it big, but after 20 years of waiting I may have to adjust my expectations and just enjoy the fact that he works a ton so there’s no shortage of things to watch.

      • Isadora says:

Yes, another voice for Max Martini! 🙂 But I have to admit I don’t watch everything with him.. For example I’m glad he wasn’t in too much of Revenge because this show is annoying for me lol. Pacific Rim on the other hand has also GDT and an apocalyptic/disaster movie theme, so I’m more inclined to watch that.

Not sure what to do with 50 shades though.. *lol* well, at least I hope it helps his career to be in that train wreck.

      • Lilacflowers says:

What? Idris Elba wasn’t the only actor in Pacific Rim? He is all I saw. And he was glorious

    • Lips flowers says:

Isn’t GDT also working on a smaller film? I would like to hear about that. And Hellboy and CP.

      • Lilacflowers says:

And typing stuff on my phone resulted in some weird changes to my name

      • Isadora says:

Your phone is just a secret botanist. Because your name change would stand for “Labiate” in Latin and that’s an actual plant family.

(Never mind me. It’s late and my brain is associating random stuff. I should go to bed.)

      • Janeite says:

That is freaking hilarious! I think we should all just call you Lips flowers from now on!

      • jammypants says:

I was quite confused how lilacs can turn into lips. Glad to know it’s one in the same!

      • Lilacflowers. says:

The mysterious world of autocorrect creates all sorts of weird connections. Cannot wait until my computer is fixed. I hate typing my phone.

  5. feebee says:

Has Comic-Con moved on from it’s Comic book origins? Or have I totally misread what Crimson Peak is about?

    • klutzy_girl says:

Comic-Con has been like this for years, actually.

    • Isadora says:

Yes, I think True Blood for example had panels there four years in a row.

      • M.A.F. says:

Isn’t Sunday generally the TV portion of Comic Con? Saturday is generally the big movies & Friday is mixture, right?

      • Isadora says:

No idea, I hardly know anything about Comic Con.

But speaking of conventions (this is OT, but so extremely hilarious I have to bring it up), I’m not sure if you have heard of dashcon2014 but that was a convention taking place last weekend and afterwards all kinds of hashtags appeared, so I got curious. Please, you have to google it, that’s the worst convention fail ever, I think. It was apparently supposed to be a convention for tumblr users, organized by other tumblr users (yes, we can all imagine what a good idea that is *g*). And it ended in a ballpit lol…

      • M.A.F. says:

Oh yeah, I read about dashcon. How it turned out seems very fitting for Tumblr. LOL

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Now I’m curious about dashcon… Going to google it… Be right back with my opinion..

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Oh my God… I don’t know whether to laugh or feel pity…
        *eyes wide open…in incredulity*

      • Isadora says:

The extra hour in the ballpit is still my favourite part. Cracks me up every time.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Where only 6 people could fit in…. lol….

    • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

That is what I was wondering because I struggled to understand why Del Toro is going to be there…

  6. Vesta says:

He maybe won’t, but he SHOULD.

Dancing circus animal Tommy is more my taste than low key thespian Thomas.

    • joe spider says:

I think we might have seen the last of dancing circus animal Tommy.

      • M.A.F. says:

I hope so. I rather have thespian Tom than the over-the-top, dancing bear Tom.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Let’s hope so.. he needs to grow up, both as an actor as well as a person… 😛
        And I’m being a little bit mean, but it’s a fact…

      • OhDear says:

For his sake I hope so, if just to keep the fangirls at bay.

      • M.A.F. says:

@Nighty-that wasn’t mean. It is what some of us keep saying. Enough w/old PR tricks, stop trying to please everyone, and be yourself.

      • Maria of MD says:

Perhaps a little cross-publicity for his Hank Williams pic instead? Can you see him in his cowboy hat and strumming his guitar?

    • Vesta says:

      @Joe spider

Yeah, it seems so. But I miss that Tom, just because he was more fun to me. Why he isn’t thinking about MY needs? 😉

    • icerose says:

yes but two dancing bears would surpass every ones expectations.

  7. joy says:

I loved what he did last year. I love when an actor knows where their bread is buttered and they cater to the fans.

    • Lips flowers says:

His bread was buttered by Kevin Feige, who basically ordered him to do it. Feige is probably at a loss on how to top that this year. He said last year that none of the other actors in the MCU stable could have pulled that off. Tom was such a powerful presence

  8. klutzy_girl says:

I hope Jim Beaver (love him because of Supernatural) – the main reason I’m excited for Crimson Peak in the first place – shows up but I doubt it.

  9. M.A.F. says:

I can see the whole cast being there next year but not this year.

    • Janeite says:

Yeah, it does seem kind of early to be promoting a movie with a release date that’s more than a year away. Next summer’s SDCC makes a lot more sense, timing-wise. I doubt anyone from the cast will be there this year but I suppose you never know.

  10. Kate says:

I’m still trying to get over Tom at Comic Con last year. Dear Jesus. I was a mess for weeks. (Pathetic, I know.)

    • joe spider says:

The best bit was when they guy shouted “my wife loves you” and Tom nearly lost it.

And I would have quite like to have seen the photo Hayley aTwell took of Tom in full Loki costume cleaning his teeth with an electric toothbrush. 🙂

      • Dara says:

@Joe – there’s a photo?! The mental image of Loki with a toothbrush makes me giggle.

@Kate – As amazing as the ComicCon appearance was (and you are NOT pathetic for thinking so), I think something like that really only works once. I’m all for shameless promotion – that’s 80% of the biz nowadays – but there is a fine line between giving the fans what they want and becoming a parody of oneself.

If he does show (and I think it’s a long shot – still filming in NI, yes?) my hope is it will be alongside GTD and some others from the cast in a previously announced appearance. And for the love of God – no costumes, Shakespeare-quoting, or dancing. Well, maybe a little dancing wouldn’t be so bad, but absolutely no Nerd HQ.

      • joe spider says:

Yes Dara – she tweeted about it but wouldn’t publish!

      • Dara says:

Well, that’s just mean! I would have been better off not knowing such a thing existed…

      • Lips flowers says:

@joe spider, I would also love to see the video of Chris Evans shouting : “Dude! WTF ” at him when he walked off stage. That was a powerful and hilarious performance.

    • JoAnn says:

It is after that appearance that I became a fan of his. It was amazing to watch on Youtube I can’t imagine how much pandemonium it was live. I think this year is the year he works his a$$ off and then he can spend the second half of 2015 promoting at Comic Con etc.

      • Kate says:

        @ JoAnn,
I’m hoping he keeps his head down this year too.

        @ Dara,
I agree that an appearance of that ilk only works once. He definitely had the element of surprise working in his favor. And honestly, I think that appearance may have single-handedly solidified the success of the second Thor film, which for me was a big misstep and a disappointment (Loki not included). Marvel knew it needed to pull out all the stops – like a 6’2 snarling god – to get bodies into movie theater seats.

His voice though, in that dark room….*faint*

  11. Camil says:

    “Would that make Tommy cry?”

No, he’s free from Marvell (at least for a certain time) , so why bother? jajajaja.

About Comic-Con well… He’s pretty busy right now with High Rise (for three months I think) and I Saw the Light requires a lot of concentration. But who knows? Tom is unpredictable.

  12. GeeMoney says:

Cumberbatch and Hiddleston at the same Comic Con? Oh man. The fandom is going to have a field day there.

    • Janeite says:

Are they allowed to appear in public together? The collective fangirl meltdown might knock the earth off its axis or something!

  13. Leaflet says:

I believe that if it were a Crimson Peak promotion one of the cast members would have promoted it on twitter, so I don’t think Tom will be present. I miss dancing bear Tommy too, dang it! And i want him to come back, but it appears that some of his immature, overzealous, creepy fans have caused that particular outgoing, extravert facet of his to go into hiding, and with good reason. Also, CP wrapped so quick , and CC is so close, that that may have not been enough time for Guillermo to edit and do reshoots if needed.

    • Intro Outro says:

GDT cuts and edits as he films. He’s said recently on Collider that he basically already has his director’s cut ready – and that there’ll be only one deleted scene. Crossing my fingers that the studio will not ask him to cut his version any more.

      Here’s full interview if you’re interested http://collider.com/guillermo-del-toro-crimson-peak-pans-labyrinth-criterion/

P.S. Agreed about Tom’s extraverted part going into hiding. I think he had to tone it down anyway because it just doesn’t suit his current projects, but I’m sincerely hoping that he won’t cut if off for good.

      • Isadora says:

I don’t think that the studio will cut a lot from CP because he also said in that interview: “I think that you need to land under or around the low, low end of two hours in a movie.” – so if he has like… 110 minutes director’s cut they can’t cut much more if they want to keep a normal feature length film. So no Snowpiercer situation here, thankfully.

      • Intro Outro says:

Yeah, I hope so, too! I liked his no-nonsense description of how he approaches editing. I guess some directors could launch into a long-winded monologue on how they have to beat their free and artsy spirit into no more than 2 hours of screen time – and GDT just goes and honestly says he can’t sit through a film that’s longer than 2 hours 😀

Re: Snowpiercer: I’m feeling more and more resentful towards Weinstein by the day =/

      • Isadora says:

GDT seems like a great guy. I read his reddit AMA (more like: scanned it for info about CP – the only things were about the colour coding, that it’s like the big sister companion to Devil’s Backbone and that there will be mortuary or forensic scenes of a monster or a human) and he seems like such a comic and computer game nerd and genuinely exited about all the stuff he does.

      • Lips flowers says:

@intro, I loved Snowpiercer and am furious with Weinstein. That film should be up for every award

      • M.A.F. says:

But they didn’t cut the screen time for the US. I saw the movie over the weekend and I was glad that the theater had a lot of people and that the movie lived up to the hype.

      • Lilacflowers. says:

@MAF, they’re showing the director’s cut but they severely limited the distribution to theaters, then quickly moved it to VOD, which cuts into theater sales. It’s a movie that deserves to be seen on a big screen

  14. Intro Outro says:

OT: Since the post and comments skim on horror/Gothic themes, have any of you ladies seen Penny Dreadful? If yes – care to share your impressions? I’m only 3 episodes in – Eva Green is striking in it! – but I haven’t yet formed a definite opinion on the show. Not a big fan of lumping famous characters from different novels together into one film to be honest, but maybe it’ll work in PD, in the end.

    • joe spider says:

I’m afraid I only lasted part way into the first episode and gave up.

    • icerose says:

I have not seen it but friend’s whose opinions I trust tell me it is excellent and it is definitely on my to watch list

    • lunchcoma says:

I enjoyed it, but I also like the mashup concept. It has some lovely moments and some horrifying ones, and I think the acting is fairly strong. It also had some bits I thought were missteps, but overall I found it to be worth watching.

    • Intro Outro says:

Thanks to everyone! I will continue watching it then, especially since Rory Kinnear has finally made his appearance – and he’s toned up his usually understated acting here a bit, making himself deliciously devilish 😛

Eva Green is so far the absolute star of the show. I would love to see her and Hiddleston in a film together, I think they would have some blazing chemistry.

      • Janeite says:

I have all of the episodes recorded but have only watched the first 3 of them so far. Rory Kinnear is great in it, isn’t he? Almost unrecognizable. And yes, Eva Green is superb. She’s mesmerizing when she’s onscreen. And I can’t understand a word Billie Piper’s character says.

      • icerose says:

I tend to find Kinnear a bit bland and understated but the reports I am reading here and on facebook have piqued my interest.

      • Isadora says:

Haven’t seen PD, but Hiddles and Eva Green!! I actually wrote about that before the female leads for High-Rise were known because I thought she would make such a nice resident there. 😉 But alas, no Eva Green in High-Rise (but a bunch of other interesting people with .. er… interesting connections). Still, those two need to be in something together. She’s great!

      • Intro Outro says:

Oh goodness, Janeite, I had to DL English subs (!) to understand Piper 😀

Rory is gorgeous, and Eva is outstanding there! Yes, I remember you writing about her, Isadora. I suggest you watch PD if only for Eva. Janeite, isn’t she absolutely, creep-inducingly scary in that psychic scene in ep. 2? No makeup, no special effects – and she scared the hell out of me.

      • Janeite says:

        Intro Outro-
That seance scene was absolutely remarkable. Someone elsewhere on the internet said that they though it went on for too long! WTF?!? I could have watched her do that for a solid hour and not been bored.

      • lunchcoma says:

Doesn’t Loki have a love interest at some point in the comics? I could see Eva in a Marvel movie. She was just in the 300 sequel as an anti-hero type.

In any case, I’ve liked her as an actress since The Dreamers, and I’m interested to see her in darker roles in her recent projects. I think I like her better as an adult than I did as an ingenue.

      • Lilacflowers. says:

@lunchcoma, Loki has a wife Sigyn, a lover The Enchantress, and dallied with Lorelei, the sister of the Enchantress. Marvel cast Lorelei in Agents of SHIELD. Loki sent Sif to stop Lorelei from starting a war on earth with orders to bring her back alive. Sif wanted to kill her.

    • Maria of MD says:

I watched the whole thing and still haven’t decided whether I really liked it or was just beguiled by it. Certainly, I loved seeing Timothy Dalton playing such a big, leading role. And Eva Green knocked it out of the park too.

  15. Kate2 says:

Yeah, I don’t miss the dancing bear. Its a bit much. I don’t think he should be anyone other than who he is to his close friends and family but the demented circus monkey act wears thin and as others have noted, only gets the weirdos riled up. He’s cute and funny without that baloney, so, down, boy.

And he doesn’t have to do that to promote a movie. I love that he now only uses Twitter to promote stuff instead of using it to interact personally with the crazies.

I hate the banner pic of him with the sock monkey. He looks tired and old. In his defense, no one looks good when they’re exhausted and I understand he was nearing the end of the CP shoot. But he looks at LEAST 5 years older than he is in that pic and it weirds me out.

    • icerose says:

Well accoding to Tom he has always been a bit of a show off even with his family.I thonk it has it’s place in the Marvel promotion circuit which is when his little boy bubble comes to the forefront. But when it comes the more serious films like OLLA he tones it down.

      • Kate2 says:

Yes, thats what I meant when I said he should be who he is with family and friends but should maybe dial down the crazy when doing promotion. I agree though that if you’re going to do it, it works better when promoting the Marvel stuff.

Its just my opinion on the matter though, I know others dig it.

      • icerose says:

@Kate2 I think he is bit of a chameleon because when required he can reign it in and compete with the best of the serious thespians. It is what makes him so interesting his ability to slide into the required PR role with such ease. Watch him talk about OLLA, Coriolanus, Hollow Crown or presenting Bafta /Olivier awards or promoting things like the BFI and you see a completely different more eloquent adult approach.

    • browniecakes says:

TH did take a pretty sweet vacation right after!

  16. Intro Outro says:

    Oh. My. God. *gulp*

The Marvel announcement I mentioned up the thread? It’s been made. http://marvel.com/news/comics/2014/7/15/22875/marvel_proudly_presents_thor From now on Thor will be a… *drum roll* WOMAN. At least in the comics 😛

    • Isadora says:

Wow…. not sure if this is a good idea? The whole gender shifting was always more Loki’s thing, wasn’t it?

I think I would have liked a new female original character better than Thor becoming a woman. To me it feels a bit forced.

    • koko says:

I’ve read that release 3 times now and …..What???

    • Kate2 says:

Ok. A) Wonder how Hemsworth feels about his character becoming a woman? Oh the teasing he’s going to get from his buddies. Obviously he’ll never play that role in drag, and we all know he can’t wait to stop playing him as a man, but you KNOW that his friends are going to send him a skirt. Which would be hilarious.

      B) I’m all for strong female LEAD characters, but changing a classic like this is weird. Why would they do this? I don’t even read comics, I just watch the movies, so I have no real dog in this fight, but I’m baffled.

      • Isadora says:

Now if they make Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg also female, they can be (with Sif) the Sailor Senshi! “Thunder Prism Power, Make Up!” *rofl*

      • brownieckaes says:

Sounds like ‘Sex and the City’.

      • Lips flowers says:

Lego Loki on Twitter was all over this as soon as the news was released. Thor in a skirt. Thor in a wedding dress.

    • joe spider says:

But this is the comics, right? Does it follow that Thor 3 will be on the same lines. If so it could be a female Thor and a kid Loki.

    • M.A.F. says:

AHH. I was just about to the post a link to the story. It is interesting.

      http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=54067

Wait, when I first read about it from the link I posted, I read it as Thor is stepping down & a woman takes over. After reading it again & then reading the link Intro Outro posted, it now sounds as if Thor just turns into a woman?! How freaking lame is that?!

Edit: After seeing Tweets from other sources, I think I was right with my first impression-Thor steps down & a woman takes over, not Thor turns into a woman.

      • Lips flowers says:

Only “worthy” people can lift mjolnir . Like in Thor I, he becomes unworthy and can’t lift the hammer. A worthy woman comes forward and she can, becoming Goddess of Thunder. Odin can lift the hammer but Loki knows he can’t so be refused it in Thor 2 because it would give him away. Captain America lifts it in the comics.

    • icerose says:

Can you imagine Loki and a female Thor-I love it -good one Marvel

      • Camil says:

I can imagine female Loki and female Thor.

Thora: Enough sister, this is madness and mjolnir can’t fight with your PMS

Lokina: Shut up, you mewling quim!

        That would be hilarious LOL.

      • 'P'enny says:

Well Gwendoline Christie would be a good Thorita and we all know how she get’s on with Hiddles as her costar. 😉

      • joe spider says:

        @ ‘P’enny

Now that I would pay to see.

    • Maria of MD says:

Read some of the comments reacting to this on another site: this decision is NOT going down well at all.

  17. miriam says:

Hiddles seems like a lovely guy, but I find him so utterly unengaging. None of his roles/projects seem all that interesting. And any interest that they may offer is usually down to other people involved rather than him.

    • Isadora says:

What kind of films do you like? Maybe there is something in his CV that you’ll also like, he has done such a large variety of genres, good guys, bad guys, great directors, etc. As he seems to like different roles I think in time there will be something for everyone.

    • Intro Outro says:

Awww, sorry but I couldn’t disagree more 😉 He’s always part of very solid casts, but he also consistently holds his own in his projects, imo – something his critics always note, too. (Cue: Coriolanus, Thor/Avengers, Only Lovers Left Alive, Hollow Crown) But, I guess this is a matter of taste and preferences, too ^_^

      • miriam says:

I like all sorts of films/productions. I just haven’t been enamoured by him. I do want to see Only Lovers, but mainly due to the director.

      • Isadora says:

If you like Jim Jarmusch then I think you’ll love OLLA. Of course I’m highly biased as it is my favourite TH film (and probably among my favourite movies generally), but still, it’s a thing of beauty. And Tilda Swinton.

    • jammypants says:

Woah, it’s usually the other way around, but alas! different opinions abound :p

    • icerose says:

It is all about preference. I and always find something to like in his performances but in comparison It’s difficult to pinpoint why one actor appeals to you more than another-partly role choices ,partly acting, partly emotional response and that little something that comes down to how you perceive them. I always preferred Al Pacino to Rober DeNiro but recognise that they are both great actors, I think for me it is something about how they put across the soul or the humanity of the character,- but it is still pretty hard to quantify.

      • miriam says:

I’ve nothing against him, I just don’t find him an eye-catching actor. That’s not to say he’s bad. He just isn’t someone I seek out.

By the way, I also prefer Pacino to Deniro.

      • joe spider says:

He first made me sit up and take notice in those scenes in Henry IV Part 1 – the play acting in the tavern (I do, I will), snogging Maxine Peake and the scene with Jeremy Irons when he summoned him to court. I was just thinking “he needs a good slap” when whack!

Apparently Jeremy recorded Tom’s tavern line so he could copy his voice.

      • Isadora says:

I love the tavern scene in H. IV/1 when Hal pretends to be his father to the amusement of the tavern. The way he channels Jeremy Irons’ Henry with so much comical appeal but then slowly becomes serious, it was wonderful.

      • Dara says:

Can I geek out for a minute about the H.IV/1? The tavern scene and the Hal/Henry scene at court was the best! I do/I will, Tom’s imitation of Jeremy, Jeremy echoing some of it when they meet at court (the wave forward), Hal’s resigned laugh at seeing that gesture, the King’s worry about a wayward son, the slap (!), Hal’s horror at realizing his bad-boy act has hurt his father, I could go on…

My college Shakespeare class covered this play ad nauseum and why Hal was slumming around with Falstaff. And then, years later, I watch this version and hear Tom say “wisdom cries out in the streets and no man regards it”. It’s a throwaway line (at least I don’t remember it from any other version I’ve seen) and it was delivered so perfectly, with such expression, that it answered in a split second the question we had spent hours discussing. I was instantly hooked, and haven’t been able to look away since. Damn!

      • Lilacflowers says:

I loved the imitation of Jeremy Irons in Henry 4, part 1. From the moment, he jumped on the table, that scene was magic. The scene in part 2 when he takes the crown from Jeremy Irons was heartbreaking and truly beautiful.

      • Isadora says:

This comes a bit out of the blue but as long as we are marvelling at TH’s performances here, I want to throw that (fan made) video in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSgyslFXPds
I’m not sure if I have already posted it once (oops, sorry) but it’s parts from OLLA with one of the most beautiful poems by Lord Byron, recited by Hiddles. And I think it’s such a great fit, that poem and the chemistry between Adam & Eve.

Intro Outro has once said that she was so impressed after Coriolanus and then she sees all the people on tumblr (?) talking just about Tom’s butt. I have this “problem” a bit with Adam because, yes, he is yummy. And he is cute in his petulant way. But he is soo clearly a unit with Eve, the whole film is about them together, as lovers. I can’t think about Adam without Eve and not about Eve without Adam. And the scenes in this video drive that so home, imho (not only the “kiss” but also them standing in the old theatre in Detroit or being on the plane). Tom’s eightpack is nice, but doesn’t compare to that.

        /fangirling over

    • 'P'enny says:

Watch Unrelated with Hiddles aged 26 ish and then watch Thor Dark World and tell me they are the same actor? That is what makes an actor engaging someone who can give you whiplash when you are watching two polar opposite performances.

Or on a serious up-to-date, closer together performances watch Coriolanus followed by OLLA, which a lot of us in the UK did, within two weeks of each other. wow. i was bowled over.

      • miriam says:

You misunderstand me. I am not saying anything about his acting ability. He just does not peak my interest. What is wrong with that? We can’t all fawn over every good actor out there. There are plenty of good actors that I don’t care about.

      • M.A.F. says:

I get what you are saying. It is how I feel about most Martin Scorsese & Woody Allen films.

      • Isadora says:

Yes, I think everyone has actors that are good but that’s it and actors, where you watch and just marvel at them, at the depth, at the way they become their character, everything.

Besides Hiddleston also Fassbender is such a case (maybe even slightly more so. ooops. oh, the sacrilege *g*) because I always believe him 100% on screen. Even if he doesn’t have the support of a very specific costume. He doesn’t look that much different in Fish Tank than in X-Men before he becomes Magneto, but he IS so incredibly different.

    • Lips flowers says:

@Miriam, that is exactly how I feel about Cumberbatch. As with everything It is a matter of personal taste.

  18. jammypants says:

I doubt Tommy boy can make it. He’s deep into filming for High Rise no?

    • MissMary says:

It seems so. And it sounds like a very packed shoot. I’d be surprised if he took a few days off to make it out to SDCC.

    • M.A.F. says:

This is now week two of filming. I can’t picture him going especially since I think del Torro is there to promote a variety of projects not just CP.

    • Isadora says:

Well, I hope so! I’d be severly disappointed if they can do without Mr. Whippy for the duration of SDCC because he hasn’t that many scenes in High-Rise. Laing needs lots of screen time. He has a naked sunbathing duty.

      • icerose says:

The naked sunbathing scenes need to be quite extensive if we are to truly understand the character’s motivation and get a complete understanding of how he functions

      • 'P'enny says:

I see Mr Whippy tag is sticking LOL! 😉

Luke Evans is going to Comic-con

and, i’ve been informed by carrier-twitter pigeon that the naked sunbathing scene is currently being filmed and Laurie Rose, Director of Photography has decided this scene will take several takes over the next month, in different angles and lighting and lenses to get it right. And they are also trying out various ‘cocktail’ recipes to get the right look. 😉

      • joe spider says:

Or do you mean several months over the next take ‘P’enny? 😉

      • 'P'enny says:

        @joe spider

        both? LOL!

      • Janeite says:

        Isadora-
Every time you call him Mr. Whippy it makes me laugh! 🙂

      • icerose says:

@P’enny My cocktail recommendation is the Screaming Orgasm and for those of you who do not know it, it is equal parts Amaretto, Kahlúa and Baileys Irish Cream.
Or he could try Sex on the Balcony with vodka, peach schnapp, creme de cassis orange juice, cranberry juice and hair of the dog.
Not to mention the Long Slow Comfortable Screw Up Against the Balcony with Sloe gin ,Vodka , Southern Comfort ,Galliano ,Orange juice and a dash of morphine

      • Isadora says:

I’m glad, but I think ‘p’enny coined it? Can’t take credit for that, unfortunately. 😉 But I love it so much for Tommy and his current hair-do. *g*

@icerose: I’ll gladly take the last one, please. 😀

      • joe spider says:

And can we have the scenes in close up and slomo please?

      • 'P'enny says:

        @icerose

a dash of morphine! I know that’s from the book, but for those who don’t know she’s not advocating take hard drugs. LMAO!

and yeah, Mr Whippy was my term of endearment in honour of his new lovely hairstyle. 🙂

      • Lips flowers says:

@Icerose. I will try one of each for quality control purposes.

      • Vesta says:

A dash of morphine? Yes please. And make it a double!

    • lunchcoma says:

Yes, it sounds like it, and I don’t think there’d be time. I think there were more off days on Crimson Peak because Del Toro tends to work slowly and methodically, which means they could schedule some days when it was all one set of actors and no need for others to be on set. I don’t get the feeling High Rise is being filmed in quite the same way.

      • Dara says:

I can’t quite wrap my brain around the High Rise schedule. Are they really shooting on weekends and holidays – or am I adding/subtracting incorrectly when doing the time zone math for all the twitter and instagram postings?

I always thought Europeans were much more civilized (civilised?) about work hours and such – two hour lunches, tea breaks in the afternoons, monthly bank holidays, weeks and weeks of holiday time during summer months, etc. Don’t mind me, just a cranky Yank who will only have 3 weekdays off between now and Christmas.

      • Isadora says:

I’m absolutely immigrating to that dream Europe you talk about! 😉

No, generally film shooting schedules depend on the budget and tend to be gruelling. Most of the time it’s long hours with hardly any days off but long waits in between on set (because the crew has to ready everything for the scenes, etc.). So it’s not surprising that they shoot on weekands and holidays. On the other hand I have no idea what the acutal High-Rise schedule is like and I think that’s quite deliberate by the crew – less fans loitering around the set if they don’t know when they shoot where etc.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

@Dara, 2 hour lunches? (mine usually are 1 or hour and a half) tea break? – I do work at a school.. People can make a 10-15 minute break, sure, both in the morning as well as in the afternoon.. monthly bank holidays – never heard of that??? 22 to 25 days of holidays (not including weekends, which gives a total of 4 weeks – my country) that can be scheduled around the year… My case, it’s in August, since schools are closed… But most people divide them, 1 week in november/ december, 1 in april/may …it depends where you work actually…
        Note: civilize – AmEnglish
        civilise- BrEnglish..
the verbs that end in -ize in AmericanEng, end in -ise in British English..

      • Dara says:

Well that’s disappointing… I’ve spent the last few days daydreaming about the leisurely weekend roadtrips Tom would take in that fantastic black (or is it a dark blue?) Jaguar. Using it to merely drive to and from set is a criminal waste of a Big Cat, especially that one!

Only question in my mind was who would be riding shotgun… the hunky security guy or ???

      • lunchcoma says:

Folks I’ve known who worked in most of the European offices of my old law firm described the hours as cushy, but we were working 70 or 80 hours a week at times, so that was by comparison. Also, notably, the London people didn’t seem to have the same sort of schedule. They were as worked to the bone as we were.

My impression is generally that it varies a lot, both by locale and by profession. Filming movies is probably never going to be one of the easier professions, though. There’s a reason they take breaks of weeks or months between projects. Filming tends to have long hours because making films in a shorter number of days is cheaper, and accounts I’ve heard of scheduling for crew particularly have sounded pretty brutal.

      • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

        @Darya

        Where is that Europe?
Just let me know because I went on for 5 months nearly without days off lol tea breaks? Lunches? What are they? 😀

      • Vesta says:

@Dara – riding shotgun? That would be Cumberbatch. They belong together.

  19. Moochiemom says:

I can’t decide if he is a freebie five (Lainey) or lifer. Maybe five freebies?

  20. Ellen says:

Isn’t he filming for the rest of this month and next two months in Northern Ireland? Can’t see him turning up because he’s too busy working. He would probably get abuse for it again even though he hasn’t said he was going to an event

    • Janeite says:

Yeah, he will probably be working and that will prevent him from attending. I also think it’s too early for much promotion work for Crimson Peak just yet considering that it’s still more than a year until the release date.

I think that if no one else from the cast is there, no one will criticize him for not being there. But if any other cast members show up, the usual round of criticism will start-he’s hiding, he was supposed to be there but flaked out at the last minute, blah, blah, blah.

  21. lunchcoma says:

I’d be really surprised if he shows up. Crimson Peak isn’t quite as much in Comic Con’s wheelhouse as Marvel things are, and the movie’s not out until next year. There will be other Comic Cons before it’s released. Given that, I don’t really see publicity justifying pulling an actor off of a film, especially when it will involve international travel.

    • Janeite says:

Agree. The best thing if he did happen to show up would be the inevitable but always unverifiable gossip from someone somewhere who will claim they or someone they know (friend, sister, neighbor’s aunt’s best friend’s girlfriend) was at SDCC and saw a woman who resembled Jane Arthy there as well! 😉

      • joe spider says:

With Tom on one arm and Ben on the other?

      • icerose says:

@Joe spider “With Tom on one arm and Ben on the other? ” now that will set the tumblr tyre on fire.

      • Isadora says:

I’d prefer Ben dressing up as JA. Wouldn’t he look ravishing in a long wig? And a sexy jumpsuit thingy?

(Oops. I said I won’t beat this particular dead horse anymore…)

      • Janeite says:

LOL, Isadora! And by all means, continue to beat that dead horse! I have a feeling that the spectre is going to haunt the entirety of the Hiddles fandom for a long time to come.

      • lunchcoma says:

Great. You just guaranteed at least a few dozen Jane Arthy cosplayers who will confuse the hell out of everyone who isn’t a Hiddleston fan. Naughty girl!

  22. Anne tommy says:

I am dying to read all this but I’ m going to practice some delayed gratification…

    • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

Question… Was not Sienna Miller supposed to be Tom’s co-star? When was Guillory added to the cast? I am lost… High Rise is not even mentioned on her filmography, to be honest…
And then she is 39, she should know better than poking fun at teenagers….

      • joe spider says:

Sienna Miller is Charlotte Melville according to imdb and I read that Guillory is Elizabeth (?) Sheridan. I don’t know the book so hopes this makes sense.

      • Janeite says:

Lady Macbeth-the CB thread from yesterday about Jessica Chastain and her boyfriend has a lot of Hiddles comments on it too. Take a look there as I think it may answer some of your questions about Sienna’s role in High Rise.

There’s discussion about her tweet there too as well as in comment 1 in this thread.

      • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

I don’t know the book either but Sienna Miller is filming in USA with Johnny Depp right now, so her part is very small or she is not going to be there at all and she was replaced by another Sienna. By the way, Guillory is not mentioned anywhere online as playing a character in High Rise. It only came out because of her tweets, to be honest…

ETA: Tom follows her on twitter, so he approved the tweets… Hahahahaha

      • M.A.F. says:

@Lady Macbeth-IMDB can be very slow on updating the projects listed. Plus, not every outlet is going to do much reporting on a movie once the main bulk of the cast as been set.

      • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

        @Janeite

This website is a bit of a nightmare to browse using a mobile device lol
By the way, I went back to the thread to read the comments… And there is no mention of Sienna M.’s role in High Rise. As MAF said, we will see how that plays out in the upcoming weeks and if Miller will show up in Ireland.

Concerning Guillory’s tweets, I can’t but agree with her tweets 😉 I like her humour too. And I also agree that some fangirls should show respect for Tom’s colleagues and let them work. These fangirls’ sense of entitlement is really disturbing.

    • M.A.F. says:

LOL This reporter must have a Tumblr page! LOL

      • Isadora says:

Everything she writes sounds like coming from a typical tumblr person. Even the “fan-shaming” and “slut-shaming” terms. It’s a bit tiring.

        I think she is guillory-shaming.

Edit: I remember this woman. She writes about Hiddles everytime she gets a chance to. And this is in her official description: “She met Tom Hiddleston one time and they took a selfie together.”

Oh well… SG struck a very personal chord, it seems. *g*

    • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

You’re kidding me…???Oh for the love of God almighty and also Mjölnir… is that pseudo-journalist an idiotic fan????
Really, people nowadays are so, so sissy and overprotective and (can’t even find the words for it…).
The journalist is being childish, immature, fangirl-y and putting in more ashes into the fire..

      * Definitely and as I’ve said in KK thread, I’m atheist but there are moments I believe the armageddon is about to arrive…no need for the 4 riders of the Apocalypse, just people’s imbecility will sufice… *

      🙁

      • Isadora says:

Well, the Hiddlestoners surely live up to their name today. Someone already made an accurate depiction of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIaORknS1Dk 😀

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

        @Isadora lol… 😀
The true hiddlestoners… sounds a lot like idol stoners… 😛

      • M.A.F. says:

I’m telling you after 2001 we entered the “Don’t yell at me, don’t criticize me, don’t label me, I’m special and so is everyone else, I know my rights even though I’m 12 and can’t do squat for myself” phase of humanity. World full of babies.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

        @M.A.F…. you’re so right… don’t know what’s wrong with this youth.. humf… And I honestly fear for their future…

      • M.A.F. says:

I would fear for my social security if I wasn’t a teacher based on this generation. There are some good apples but heaven help the rest of them.

      • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

        @Isadora

Hahahahaha yes, the Hiddlestoners in action lol thanks for posting that!

        @sonalaceae

Is she? So she has been hiddlestoned too… Now even journalists are fangirls in disguise.. So disappointing!

  23. Francis says:

I don’t get the hype about this guy.

    • joe spider says:

That’s ok, it isn’t compulsory, we all have different tastes.

      • ava says:

I used to feel that way too and then I put his name in You Tube….warning you may never escape….lol

  24. 'P'enny says:

They’ve [Advertising Agency] has banned the jag advert of You Tube because it encourages fast unsafe driving. 🙁 Seriously?????? really angry about this. Poor Hiddles, best advert ever and it has been pulled because he is encouraging unsafe driving. well they need to ban Top Gear too, after all his driving there was super-reckless… [cough] ‘rolls eyes’

so annoyed at such nanny rulings – are they going to all the Fast and Furious stuff off as well.

i wish i knew how to download this advert 🙁

    • Intro Outro says:

You already know my reaction, right?

The double standards are amazing o_O I have a question though. Does this only concern British YouTube users? Or Jaguar will have to pull the ad down completely?

As for DLing – you need to install a browser extension called Download Helper. It’s very simple and powerful, and allows you to DL vids from basically any site.

    • M.A.F. says:

Between this “news” story & the one yesterday from the “reporter” who “reported” on the tumblr/twitter drama, I’m having a good laugh.

Makes me wonder how the car ads are in the UK. Every car ad on the TV in the US for the most part do show cars speeding. That is why you get a car in the first place-how fast it can go from 0 to 60.
