Jeff Goldblum, 61, proposed to his 31-year-old girlfriend: cute or ridiculous?

wenn21318234

People always forget that Jeff Goldblum was a HUGE sex symbol in the 1980s. He was, like, one of the biggest movie stars in America following his roles in The Fly and The Big Chill. He was married to Geena Davis. He was “the thinking woman’s sex symbol.” He’s always been sort of geeky-yet-suave and he has that great voice. Well, surprise – Jeff Goldblum is 61 years old. Bigger surprise: his girlfriend is 31 years old and he proposed to her. Because of course he did.

His new fiancée is Emilie Livingston. He proposed to her in a store (their favorite store?) and Emilie posted some photos on her social media detailing the proposal. She says she was “taken over by tears of joy n ecstasy! We picked the ring 2gether #inlove.” She also posted some coupled-up pics with the hashtags: #haleakala #sunrise #jeffgoldblum #emilielivingston #soulmates #initforlife #love. Aw. That’s adorable. And sort of queasy, but mostly adorable. That must be the good thing about marrying a man thirty years older – saying you’re in it “for life” seems pretty possible.

Personally, I don’t care that much about the age difference. She was in her late 20s when they started up, so it’s not like he was hanging out at high schools looking for a new girlfriend. By your late 20s, you can marry a man 30 years older and go into it with open eyes. Plus, this bitch stole my retirement plan. I wanna marry a dude 30 years older than me so I don’t have to work! Please?

So, really, I only have two big issues with this. One, HER HAIR. Those bangs… honey, NO. But the biggest issue I have is with the ring. Is that a f—king topaz?!

I so would Jeff Goldblum, so I get it. She’s an *ahem* mature looking 31, isn’t she?

I think the ring is a rose cut champagne diamond. If it’s by a big designer it’s maybe $6000… but you could get a ring like that for $2500 generally. I like that it’s simple.

    • Erinn says:

I like the ring too. It’s pretty, and not over the top.

I’d have neeever in a million years pegged her for 31. She’s 7 years older than I am, but looks like she could be my mother.

      • Sullivan says:

I’m gonna have to see a birth certificate.

      • Gigi says:

I read elsewhere she’s a former gymnast. So, yeah. Probably many years of malnutrition and strenuous workouts have not only killed any healthy-looking attributes to her body but also prematurely aged her.

      • msw says:

Ah…. No. This is not a gymnast thing.

      • Mr. Stinky FishFace says:

yeahhh she’s a year older than me, I’m a former gymnast and I often get pegged at 20. This has nothing to do with being a gymnast…

Also not all women want diamond. I think her ring is beautiful!

    • Frida_K says:

I see a champagne or maybe a chocolate diamond too. That’s not a topaz.

And yes, she certainly is a mature-looking 31. She also kind of looks like she could be related to him in some way, like maybe an adult daughter or a niece. Kinda skeevy, but hey.

    • Nev says:

      yes he’s YUM. haha

    • Decloo says:

Apparently they bought the ring at the Ok store where no ring goes for more than $6K. I like some of the jewelry but not for an engagement ring. You can get that cool style elsewhere with better rocks. No WAY she is 31.

    • LakeMom says:

I think the ring is a champagne diamond. Since it doesn’t look like a typical engagement ring, she’ll be able to wear it as a cocktail ring later on. He’s cheated on every woman he’s ever been with and he’ll cheat on this one too. The man can’t keep his pickle in his pocket.

      • Miss Melissa says:

Do you think he can still pull like that though?

BTW, didn’t he date Lydia Hearst for a while, too?

    • xxx says:

      I know! 31? Highly questionable:)

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Me too, Gigi. That’s all I was thinking as I read it.

” Plus, this bitch stole my retirement plan.”

LOL! Hilarious and I hear ya, Kaiser. Lately, all I’ve been thinking about is how nice it would be to not have to stress about money. Even better if I never have to work again AND get to wake up to Goldblum’s sexy voice. SIGH 🙁

      • Kiddo says:

        He has beautiful hands.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

He really does and that is not a small thing. I hate short, fat fingers and small palms on dudes–total deal-breaker.

        …not that I’m picky or anything. 🙄

      • SpookySpooks says:

But wouldn’t it make you uncomfortable if the man was the only one making money? It would make me very uncomfortable, I think I would be uncomfortable if he made much much more than I do, too.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Just that I wouldn’t mind having a kick-ass house in Santa Barbara and life being one long summer.

I’d go for an invigorating run along the beach every morning and maybe take up parasailing, have a fresh avocado salad and refreshing cocktails for lunch on our ocean-front deck, then Jeff and I could take the sailboat out for a while, followed by a sunset-lit romantic dinner at a nice five-star restaurant….

…..I’m sorry, what were you saying?

      • Kiddo says:

        @TheOriginalKitten , I’m invited, right?

      • littlestar says:

I won’t lie, sometimes when work gets me down, I wish that my husband made enough for the two of us to live off of so I could stay home and do the things I love all day, every day (run, go to yoga, garden, play piano, cuddle with the cats, shop etc). Does that make me a poor feminist? :S

      • Kiddo says:

I would guess ‘poor’ as compared to ‘rich’ in economic terms’, but probably not in terms of philosophy. Why not wish, while you are dreaming, that your husband also has the time to do the same things or his preferred type of leisure activity, too, because of your combined brilliant accumulated wealth ?

      • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

        @littlestar

I am home but I can’t do all that stuff anyway. Even though my husband can afford to keep me home (and not forever, only because I decided to go back to higher education), I can’t afford to stay home and live a luxurious life. So you would actually need a millionaire for that, not just a husband who earns a sum that is the equivalent of two wages.
Although… I admit that in the morning sipping your tea or coffee while sitting in the conservatory and everybody else is at work… Well it feels like a luxury sometimes 😉

        P.s. It doesn’t make you a poor feminist 😉

Eta: Goldblum’s fiancè seems my age and I am in my early forties….

      • littlestar says:

My husband has to work though, or else he’d stay home all day watching sports on TV non stop ;).

Lady Macbeth – I think I need to go out and buy a lottery ticket! LOL.

      • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

        @littlestar

That is a good idea! 😉

      • Kaiser, It certainly doesn’t make you a poor feminist, the whole retirement plan thing….but what it will likely make you is a nurse. Maybe not right away, but some day in the not so distant future. I’m an actual nurse, so I always think about these things…food for thought.

I have no issue with these two. I have always had a bit go a Goldcrush.

    • M.A.F. says:

A hard 31 she looks. I have two years on her & I still have people thinking I’m in my mid-20s. But congrats to them.

    • littlestar says:

Yep, she looks much older than 31 (could she possibly be lying about her age?) and he looks quite a bit younger than 61, imo.

    • Stef Leppard says:

I like it too. It’s pretty and different. I like unusual rings; my engagement ring isn’t a diamond.

    • jaye says:

I have loved him since the tv show “Tenspeed and Brown Shoe”. (I am SO dating myself). I still think find him VERY sexy. He could get it.

  2. AG-UK says:

ummm no. If she is 31 she is an old looking 31 to me but has a great body. He and James Woods lost me..with their young partners.

    • SpookySpooks says:

He’s not in the James Woods creepy “almost teen” girlfriend camp.
I usually mind huge age gaps, but with them it’s kinda okay. He talks about her all the time in interviews and uses both her name and surname, which is funny. I’m not bothered by this.

      • Ciria says:

It is kind of cute that he uses her first name and last name.

      • AG-UK says:

true that is creepy but all I can think of when I was 21 (granted she is 31) and sat across from a guy who was 34 and I couldn’t STOP staring thinking OMG he is THIRTY FOUR, times have a changed.. that seemed so old to me.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

AG-UK, when I was 21 I dated a 27 year old and constantly agonized over whether he was too old. Oh, the wasted emotions.

      • Truthtful says:

        Well still very very creepy…
Unbelievable how we women pass accolades with the “she is not that young” point… well she is not maybe that young but still 30 years younger!!! which is quite vomit inducing…

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

        Hahaha, GoodNames 😉

I’m 35..if I found an amazing 65-year-old man that didn’t make me want to throw up then I reserve the right to date him and possibly get engaged to him with a topaz ring.
But for now, I’m dating a 25-year-old..I figure I still have a few more years of that before I head into 40-plus territory.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Good job, OKitten. I dated a 25 year old when I was 35. He was sweet. By that time, I had overcome my prejudices about age. Lol big time.

      • littlestar says:

Kitten – apologies for being so nosey, but do you think your 25 year old could turn into a long term thing? Even when I was younger, I did not like dating younger men (I always thought I was much too mature for them LOL).

      • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

        @littlestar

My husband is more than a decade younger than me and we are happily married. For the record, the longest relationship I had in my life was with a man who was 15 years my senior and we broke up nearly after a decade because he didn’t want to settle down. Mind you, we had started to date when he was 49 🙁 you actually never know 😉

        @OKitten

        You go girl!! 😉

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

@ Littlestar-“apologies for being so nosey, but do you think your 25 year old could turn into a long term thing?”

        No. Definitely not.
…and the twenty-somethings are getting really repetitive-definitely immature and kind of embarrassing at times but this seems to be all I have to work with right now (the last 5 guys I dated were all in their twenties).
I’m still keeping my options open though and I’m hoping to find a nice thirty-something who loves animals to eventually settle down with 🙂

      • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

        @TheOriginalKitten

My husband was 27 when we got married. So not all twentysomething are immature. If you count that I had dated a string of 40-50 something until I was 37 and they didn’t want to commit because they felt too young to settle down, well.. You must conclude that age doesn’t matter, brain does 😉

      • Miss Melissa says:

        @TheOriginalKitten

You can keep right on with the 20-somethings into your 40s, if you are so inclined. They are game, trust me.

      • 40-plus territory is not the death sentence everyone makes it out to be Kitten, but you seem like you are doing A-OK without my advice.

Funny how whatever age you are, people always tell you that the next rung on the ladder is the point at which the wheels come off.

“Oh, just wait till you’re 30/40/50….that’s when I lost my body/ass/self-respect/whatever…”

I’m still waiting for my retroactive extra 30 pounds and boob-drop to my navel that was promised to me when I was 30. I’m 42 now…

I do have reading glasses now. IT THIS THE BEGINNING OF THE END!?!?

      • Dana m says:

        @OKitten:

        *High five *
        Good for you girly!

      • Persephone69 says:

Virtual hi five to my girls with the younger men! My hubby is 10 years my junior, We’re now 13+ years together and 2 kids. What started as my boy toy fling surprisingly turned into a long term mate… you just never know! ;D

    • Hootysgram says:

Great body? Are you kidding? What happened to the top of her? She looks like some 12 yr old girl. Ugh…she’ll regret that move when 15 years down the road…he’s drooling in his oatmeal and she’s just reaching her prime!

  3. MindlessContemplations says:

Small ring which leads me to believe she is really in it for love.

    • MrsBPitt says:

Don’t worry, she will buy herself a much better ring with her divorce settlement!!! It looks like something an eighth grader would buy his girlfriend!
      #don’tseethislasting

      • Chrissy says:

Agree, it kinda looks like a promise ring teen-agers get!
Seriously underwhelming. Maybe it’s a family heirloom
        though.

    • Kiddo says:

I think the ring is charming.

      • MrsBPitt says:

@kiddo…I guess, I am used to seeing all the ostentatious 10 carat rings that most celebs buy these days and just expect them all to do that. The ring is actually quite pretty, I just wonder if the girlfriend is thinking “WTF…where are my 10 carats”…

      • Amelia says:

Not normally my cup of tea, but I do actually quite like it.
It’s subtle. That doesn’t stop the skeevy vibe I get off Goldblum though.
        Also, major abs jealously.

      • Ange says:

Me too, I think it’s really pretty. I love the band.

    • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Still trying to figure out if I like the ring… Subtle yes…but does one get engaged with a Topaz?

  4. NewWester says:

As long as they are happy, good for them. But I have to ask: is she really 31 years old or is it just bad photos?

  5. Kristen says:

I’m 31 and this broad looks like she could be my mother.

  6. Leaflet says:

Em, get that money girl.I don’t blame her, I’d marry a rich man if I had the option.

  7. MrsBPitt says:

Jeff Goldblum, a sex symbol??? Not in the 80’s, 90’s 2000’s or EVER…C’mon, just because a guy is in movies, doesn’t make him sexy! Be honest, if you saw this guy walking down the street, you wouldn’t give him a second look..and neither would this 31 year old (#letsseethebirthcertificate), if he wasn’t a “movie star” (#hasbeen)…

sorry, if I’m extra bitchy…got a puppy and she had me up super early today!

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

He was certainly never a sex symbol to me. Always the geeky guy, not sexy geeky, just geeky geeky. As for their age difference, once a woman is “fully grown” I have no problem with it. I don’t care for the ring. I don’t mind simple or small but it’s sort of busy and small. Not pretty to me.

P.S. MrsBPitt -what kind of puppy? I want a puppy!

      • MrsBPitt says:

We rescued an eight week old german shephard mix (not sure what she is mixed with), but she is adorable!!!!! We love her to death!! She wakes this old lady up way to early though, and I get cranky!!!!!!!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, how sweet. I bet she’s smart and fun and beautiful!

      • Esmom says:

Me neither. I remember finding him sort of intriguing in The Big Chill but then was permanently grossed out by him after The Fly. Not his fault…but yuck.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Consider him the Benedict Cumberbatch of his day.

I’m pretty sure he had a similar cult following with a lot of people who felt the same as you do.

Growing up, my heart belonged to Michael J Fox but I remember seeing The Fly and being surprised by how sexy I found Goldblum to be. I think it’s the voice.

      • Mrs. Darcy says:

As an 80’s kid, he totally floated my hot nerd boat – especially in the Fly (well before he got fly icky!), he was naked and HOT! Agree w/ @Original Kitten -That voice, panty melter!

He is kind of a sad old playboy now but he did marry young a couple of times and maybe it put him off marriage for a long time. This chick looks older than her years, isn’t really a bimbo looking type anyway and the ring is not gaudy or tacky (almost TOO much so, like she’s going overboard to prove she’s not after his money?!lol) I think they’ll have kids within a year or two, like Steve Martin he will be a first time older dad with the young wife, typical Hollywood version of a happily ever after story.

      • Lady Macbeth (HiddlesF) says:

He was sexy, especially because of the deep voice… Nerdy kind of sexy, of course 😉

      • Tara says:

I don’t remember him being a sex symbol either. It’s possible the Goonies generation saw Buckaroo Bonzai and just assumed…

    • SpookySpooks says:

I think people will think the same about Cumberbatch 40 years from now. HE was a sex symbol?!
I think Jeff was hot in The Fly.

    • alik says:

He was really handsome and sexy in Earth Girls are Easy.

  8. lukie says:

Jeff Goldblum has been dating younger woman for a long time. While I tend to find it a little gross, she is over 30. At least she isn’t 24.

… but has anyone ever noticed that women who hook up with much older men tend to look older sooner than later as well? That’s reason enough for me to play in my own age pond….

    • Antonym says:

That’s reason enough to dip my toe in the younger age pond!

    • Mike says:

I never really care unless the younger party is under 20 and the older party is over 50 (Looking at you James Woods.) This woman is over 30 and at that age you are pretty much a grown up and can go into these kind of relationships with your eyes open. Madonna looked silly when she was dating that 19 year old and James Woods looks like a pedophile with his super young girlfriend but those are exceptions in my opinion

  9. Panache says:

I like that ring waaay better than all those huge rocks, which just look tacky to me.

Congrats to these two. I did have to laugh though that she hashtagged her own name. 😉

  10. LadyJane says:

I think it is probably a ‘Chocolate” or brown diamond. I love Jeff Goldbloom. He is my forever crush!

  11. Renee says:

Well she looks a lot older than 31 but whatever… If they are happy then so be it! I am marrying my fiancé and b/f of 6 years next summer and he is 20 years my senior… I like the comment you made, Kaiser, about “eyes wide open” in your late 20s and early 30s. I always laugh when people give me surprised, “judgy” looks when they meet my guy – it stopped bothering me a long time ago. And it’s not that you can just “stop working or retire” as Kaiser said if your man is a little more well-off; it just takes the financial pressure off a little and allows you to do things you ENJOY doing for work and not HAVE to do that you hate to get by. If he wants to buy me a restaurant and have me bust my ass running it, then so be it, that is something I enjoy – it’s not like you stay at home all day, or at least I don’t. That would create a huge problem in the relationship IMO

  12. eliza says:

I never understand the big deal with age. She isn’t 18. They seem happy. Best wishes to them.

    • Lisa says:

The problem is when you want to have children. Men in their 40+ have significantly higher odds of having a child with any number of mental and physical disorders. By age 40 a man has much higher odds of having a child with autism, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia than a 40 year old woman does of having a child with downs syndrome.

There have also been several studies showing mens’ fertility declines steadily in their 40s. The older a man is the less likely he is to get a woman pregnant, the longer it takes and the more likely she is to have a miscarriage or a stillbirth.

      • Mia says:

But unless you’re speaking about YOUR man, why would you care? Like the people who are worried about some else’s obesity: it’s just concern trolling, we all know that.

      • Truthtful says:

Totally Lisa, but oh the delight of misinformation on men’s fertility…at 61 it would be a though struggle for him…if he still can afford struggling on that matter…

@Mia: hitting near home much?…because your are caring too much about how much people care of other people life ….while on the celebrity website… so get a grip here everybody cares about everything and everyone and apparently so do you!

  13. Ciria says:

I’m not surprised at the age difference – Jeff Goldblum has always dated women 3 decades younger than him.
What I am surprised at is that this woman is supposedly 31. She does not look 31. Maybe 41. I’m thirty-three and look way younger than that.
Also, surprised that he’s marrying at all.

  14. Enny says:

I think the ring is Jessica Fields. I have the same ring, but with a sapphire. And it’s much more stunning in person, but perhaps a surprising choice for a celebrity engagement.

  15. Maria says:

    what is she? an archaeologist?

  16. Lis says:

    Eww

  17. Courtney says:

She both looks quite a bit older than “31” and acts quite a bit younger than 31, judging by those tweets. She looks 36-41 easyyyyyyyy.

  18. mystified says:

Most of the time I. Am disgusted by 30 year age difference, but they look like a cute couple. He looks younger than 61 (45?) and she looks older than 31 (37?), so the age difference doesn’t appear that great. And she looks attractive without looking at all like a trophy wife.

  19. lucy2 says:

I’m in agreement that she looks older than 31, but at least she isn’t early 20s like his past girlfriends. Congrats to them, and while I don’t personally care for the ring, she must love it, and it hints that she’s not a gold digger.
But I find it really, really weird to hashtag your own names (especially her, I’ve never heard of her) in your engagement announcement. I also find hashtags annoying, but that’s a different topic.

  20. xyz says:

A friend of mine went to the wedding of her brother, he’s a director. Many celebs were there including JG. Her daughter was/is beautiful and Jeff kept trying to talk to her i.e pick her up.
His opening line was “Are you 18?”. Not, hello how are you – just straight up age asking.

He became such a nuisance that her brother/groom had to intervene. She was only 17 btw. That was over 10 years ago. He likes ‘um young, really young.

He’s a well known perv. So this relationship doesn’t surprise me at all.

    • Esmom says:

      Gross. And creepy.

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

Except this one isn’t that young, and looks like she’s prematuraly aged or fibbing a wee bit. His tastes are maturing? Still, icky story if true.

  21. Cleveland Girl says:

Even her hands look older then 31. Weird.

  22. Liberty says:

    Stripes brought them together.

And according to her IMDb she has been an aerialist at music awards shows, including for Taylor Swift’s 2013 Grammys performance.

  23. Rusty Machine says:

Meh. She knows what she is getting into. Patrick Stewart’s wife is half his age, and we don’t care because he’s so adorable and they seem like such a cute couple. I personally don’t see sex symbol in him. If I close one eye and squint with the other (and ignore those awful glasses) I can see a hint of cuteness in JG in the first picture. I think it’s the beard and the grey hair.

The ring….simple yes. Cool. I like simple. but it’s also not cute IMO. Ah well, she likes it. And I’m single. So my opinion is worthless.

    • kri says:

Oh, who cares how old she is. Besides, it’s neither “cute or creepy”-it’s par for the course. Not many H’wood men are with someone their own age (witha a few excepions).

    • GeeMoney says:

Patrick Stewart doesn’t get a pass from me… even though he was Jean-Luc Picard (awesome!!!!).

The age difference btw him and his current wife is like, WTF.

But if it works for them, then good for them.

  24. Truthtful says:

Gosh I hate that lame excuse “at least she is not 21 …or 18 (or insert a very youngish age)…” that excuse is just lame, implying that a woman is never too young to be of age except if she is bordering legal age…what about just plain age difference, in real life 10 years is huuuuge age gap and 20 years and up is just creepy no matter how old a woman is !!!! a 80yrs old man is as creepily old to a 50 years old woman ( he can be her dad no matter if she is 50!!!)

and don’t get me started on the double standard here… if Meryl streep will be marrying a 31 years old nobody would find it cute and the guy would never be old in off to fit the bill in the eye of society…

    • lower-case deb says:

at leaston this site, as far as i see, older women-younger men get passes too,
      e.g. Tilda (55) and Sandro (35)
      Sam (47) and Aaron (24)

except Demi and Astun, Madonna and Backup Dancer but that’s more because of th unbearable crayness of being… imho

    • lucy2 says:

It’s still a big age difference and I can’t imagine I would be comfortable with it myself, but I think the point is that a 30+ year old generally knows who they are in life, what they want, etc, vs someone who is 18-21 and just starting out in the world.

      • Truthtful says:

@Lower-case deb: sure but there are very very few to get this “magic ” pass , that is quite always universally admitted for men (You actually named the rare ones… and that’s it”)
and even in the case of Tilda or Sam there is never the lame “at least he’s not 18 ” pulled …; and that’s where the unfairness lies…

Just last week a lot of commenters judged Eva Mendes (40) too old for Ryan Gosling (33), and they are just 7 years apart.

Or Courtney Cox and her man (who falls perfectly under the theory: he ‘s in his 30s so he’s his own person)

How about Susan Sarandon and her boyfriend?

Or Sharon Stone and boyfriends ?

What about Robin Whright and Ben Foster?

And Hugh Jackman and his wife?

Older women get generally ridiculed for being with a younger men ,-even if just younger by 4/5 years and that’s the general behavior of society toward them.

So acceptance over granpa marrying their possible granddaughters is a bit annoying in this context

        @ Lucy2:
That’s a very “american ” point of view, in other western countries there is not such a thing as “at least she is not 21”, it is replaced by “she can be his daughter/ granddaughter” no matter the age of the lady…. and I think under a big age difference there is always creepy issues underlying.

Plus knowing who you are at 30 doesn’t mean having it figure it all people change a great lot during their whole life and between 30 and 40 I imagine there is still already a whole lot of change, so it is not an excuse at all

      • lucy2 says:

Truthful, those sort of things (she could be his daughter, etc) are certainly said in America as well, and a big age difference always raises a few eyebrows.

I’m not saying people have it all figured out and don’t change after 30, my point is simply that people in their 30s tend to be a bit more mature and at a different point in their lives than a typical 18-21 year old. So while their age difference is still significant, it’s not quite as drastic as it could be, considering his reputation for dating VERY young women.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I agree with lucy2. It’s not a “lame excuse.” I see a big difference in a 30 year age gap between two adults (61 and 31) and one adult and one very immature person (51 and 21). The difference is in power and equality. When one of the people is still nearly a teenager, it feels like they are being taken advantage of. When both people are adults, it may not be something that appeals to me, in fact it doesn’t at all, but I don’t really think it’s any of my business. I figure the younger one of the couple is old enough to decide for him or herself. I still side-eye the older one, but not as much. I do agree with Truthful that there’s a double standard, though.

      • Truthtful says:

Actually while I understand and respect both of your points, your answer “The difference is in power and equality” is exactly what is typically american:

to consider that past a certain age a woman (and solely women… because men even in their 40’S are still given a pass in the US) a woman is considered on the same possible level of equality in term of power or maturity than a man that can be a father!!!

How can a woman entering life in her 30s be possibly on the same level of power and equality and experience than a man that has lived a whole life and is now a senior citizen??? How is that even possible???

There is no such thing !

That’s why we live and grow, and that’s a big difference with other western countries, where this “at least she is not 21 and “they are on the same level of power and equality even if they are 30 years apart” is not a reasonable explanation to such a non sense.

Being 10, 15 or 20 years apart is AUTOMATICALLY an inequality in term of power and experience: because one of them is this exact amount of years ahead the other, its still and will ALWAYS be as drastic as the existing age gap.

Women should be more protective of their journey and growth, they should value them and don’t put it on sale by accepting this stupid belief that once they are past 30 they are on the same level of any old geezer!

  25. Falula says:

I don’t have any problems with age differences as long as both partners were consenting adults from the start.

Where I start to get judgy, I admit, is when babies come along when either party is older than 50 or so. I can’t help myself!

  26. Ann says:

I could never bang a dude 2 or 3 decades older; I find that revolting. A 60 year old man and a 31 year old woman have nothing in common and aren’t sexually compatible. Women who have relationships with much older men often seem to have some mental health issues (history of sexual abuse etc) and much older men dating women young enough to be their daughters/granddaughters are creepers, every single one of them.

    • Truthtful says:

      Amen to everything you said!

    • Faith says:

Wow way to generalise what about women who date younger men are they mentally ill and most likely been sexually abused? As someone with a mental health condition and has an attraction to slightly older men what are you trying to insinuate? Dating older men does not mean I have some kind of lapse of correct judgement or I need a daddy figure. In my case it is because my life experience for my age seems to have surpassed most of the boys my own age (not always but mostly). When you have to find who you are at an earlier age sometimes you don’t have the energy to constantly help someone find who they are.

    • irishserra says:

@Ann, can I ask how old you are? I’m 39 and if you had asked me in my 20s, I’d probably have reacted very much like you. However, at 39, I find I’m much mellower about these things. Further, I’ve found that I’ve experienced butterflies when being around the occasional attractive older man, just as when I’ve been around the younger 20 – somethings. I’m assuming it’s just a matter of where one may be in life; hence my asking your age.

I’m happy for them and hope they can make their marriage last.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, I said above that when I was in my twenties I was much more aware of an age gap. As you mature, and the relationship is more between two mature adults, it doesn’t matter as much about specific ages. Ann sounds like she’s either very young or bringing some of her own issues to the table, or both.

      • Ann says:

I honestly think that a 60 year old man and a 30 year old woman aren’t sexually compatible. The 60 year year old is DECADES past his prime and the woman is getting into her peak. Total mismatch.

    • unamadridista says:

      @Ann,

What a horrible thing to say! Some of my best relationships have been with two men who are both 20 years older than me, and I was in my early twenties at the time. So by your definition I must have been been abused or have a mental issues??? Sorry, no on both counts. I have a successful career and have dated and been engaged to guys my own age and it didn’t work out because we had very different outlook and goals in life. It’s not revolting when you find someone who’s attractive to you physically, emotionally, and intellectually, because you see the person and how they make you feel, not their age. It’s not about numbers, but compatibility. Some women, myself included, are like what Faith described above: our experiences have surpassed that of most men our age and we find ourselves more compatible with older men. If you’ve never been attracted to an older man, that’s because you’re more compatible with men your age, so no need to bash those of us who aren’t and make nasty generalizations about our mental health.

      • Ann says:

If you were in early early 20s and dating men 20 years older than you, than you got played, baby! Just wondering: were the older men of the janitor, plumber, waiter kind or financially well off?

      • SBJ says:

        @Ann
You are nasty and bitter aren’t you ?
FYI, men after 50 are still in their prime, believe me ! My man is 56 and I am 40. We have a lot in common, talk and share everything and, as we both are confident in our relationship, everything goes very smoothly. Also, he could give lessons to younger guys on how REALLY please a woman….. I am 16 years younger than him and I wouldn’t be with anyone else. He’s smart, gorgeous, sexy and I never have been happier.
Before you ask, we are both well off financially, I am not with him for money but because I love him. Weird,, I know…..

      • Truthtful says:

@sbj: good for you on your match with your man you seem very happy… BUT and a big but men in their 50s are far far past their prime and that is just a biological fact!
And their are plenty of studies that back this fact, a lot and on every level: muscles tissues, fertility a man at 50 hold only between 5% and 11% of what is left of his fertility), brain cells, endurance , resistance, sexual vigor, learning abilities, etc…

But you can (and you certainly sound like it) totally be happy with a man that is way past his prime. nobody needs to be in his prime to be happy.

  27. xxx says:

I do know of someone (an acquaintances mother) who married a man 30 years older and they were still together into his old age… I try not to judge maybe some people were just meant to be. But as mentioned above to me really she looks closer to 51 than 31, you would have to see her hands and neck up close.

  28. Ag says:

congrats to them, they seem happy. (and i think that the ring is simple and lovely.)

  29. Liz says:

She may not look 31 but she doesn’t look anywhere as old as Jeff. His fat abdomen is beyond gross. It’s obvious he’s not putting in any effort. This is very common; an older woman always tries very hard to stay in shape both body and face-wise, and even then she’ll be criticized for not looking good enough. However, men don’t feel the need to stay in shape and look great for their significantly younger partner. Not one person mentioned his obvious girth.

    • Ann says:

Yup. You’re totally right. And we shouldn’t give men a waiver for being out of shape or not looking great when we don’t with women.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I bet he thinks he looks hot, though. Men seem to have really good body confidence, deserved or not, lol.

      • irishserra says:

Lol! @AllGood, your comment made me snicker and side – eye my own husband. He just turned 40 and is not handling it as well as I had assumed he would. He works out a little, but not too much. He’s begun wearing shirts at least a size too small or walking around without one and he has a bit of a blubber belly, but he seems blissfully unaware of it. 🙂

Funny enough, he’s also frequently told he looks like Goldblum!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yeah, they just strut around thinking they’re hot stuff. Lol meanwhile, we gain an ounce and feel like we need to hide.

    • SpookySpooks says:

He looks good for a man in his 60s, not gross. I don’t find him hot because he could be my grandfather, but he’s not gross. Such an awful thing to say for a human body.

    • snowflake says:

      yes!!!

  30. Jayna says:

Well, she doesn’t look like such Playmate 20-something bimbo. She looks in her 30s to me, even older than her age, and she’s not a great beauty, just average attractive who is very fit for her body type. So at least he’s a step above James Woods who goes for the hot 20-somethings. LOL And she has or had her own career.

Good luck to both of them. They seem very happy.

  31. Kenny Boy says:

Nothing wrong with this. She’s a fully grown adult capable of making decisions. I’m younger than this woman and Goldblum is a sex symbol among my peers still so I don’t think it’s all gold digging. RIng is pretty. I love bezel set rings. The brownish color isn’t my taste but it’s not hideous or ostentatious.

  32. cody says:

So George Clooney is looking pretty good by marrying Amal ,where there is a sixteen year difference.

  33. Maddy85 says:

Large age differences can be awkward but they seem legitimately happy, so I can’t hate. Emilie is cute and could very well be 31 years old but it is a tough sell. She just looks so.much.older.

Now a little about me: I love Jeff Goldblum. LOVE. I loved him as a kid when I saw Jurassic Park and I love him now as a silver fox. He could be 85 and wearing a colostomy bag – I’d still let him hit it. Yeah, I said it.

Also, I love the simple ring!

  34. Anon says:

This chick looks to be around 40 and JB was hot back in the day for sure.

  35. mg says:

In what universe does she look older than 31? She has good skin that moves when she makes an expression. Maybe it’s b/c she is so thin, but I’d much prefer a thin muscular body over the alternatives…

    • Jayna says:

I think she could look up to mid 30s. I don’t think she looks 40 like people are saying but I could be told she’s 37 and I would believe it. That doesn’t make her look old, just someone who I couldn’t pinpoint her age. All of my friends are late 30s to early 40s and look amazing. So it’s not a slap to her. She just has a mature face.

    • Ange says:

The universe where I’m 33 and this chick looks to have a good few years on me? I think that’s this one…. lol

  36. Esti says:

I don’t have strong feelings about this, but I hope everyone who thought Courtney Cox was gross for marrying someone 17 years younger than her is losing their shit over this.

  37. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

As long as she doesn’t put on her four year olds clothes on again that is too weird.

  38. z says:

    Might be 31… looks 45

  39. Annie says:

Not as bad as it may seem, since that cannot be her real age, right? She’s 41, right?

  40. FingerBinger says:

Jeff also used to date actresses Laura Dern and Saffron Burrows.

    • Truthtful says:

They are still a good 20 years younger than him…

    • KAI says:

He also dated Patty Hearst’s daughter Lydia when she was 26 few years back and before that Tania Raymonde (Lost) when she was only 21!

    • lucy2 says:

He also dated the girl who played Alex on Lost. She was 21 at the time and he was probably mid 50s.

  41. Louisa says:

I always find myself negatively judging a huge age difference like this. Unless of course it’s me and Alan Rickman. Then it would be totally acceptable……

  42. Jess says:

I like that she’s not completely plastic, and the ring is kinda cute, she didn’t demand a ridiculous diamond, so maybe she’s not just in it for the money? Maybe.

  43. Ava says:

Life’s too short if they love each other thumbs up! Be happy.

  44. JenniferJustice says:

I couldn’t care less about age difference so long as neither is below 21. What would concern me is that Goldblum is known to be a deuche to his SOs once he gets comfortable. He screams of superiority complex. She looks anorexic which means extreme insecurity. My douche-radar tells me he will use this against her in the future.

  45. Ash says:

I have always loved Jeff Goldblum. I even had a goldfish named after him when I was 5 years old. He has been on Conan several times and always brings her up. He talked about how she picks out bowties for him. He seems genuinely crazy for her and they have been together quite a while now judging from his several interviews.

I always liked him and Geena together but I think it was a case of egos not matching.

  46. Nancy says:

Creepy that’s all I can say and I know that they’re grown ups and they’re in love blah blah blah but 30 yr age difference is just creepy.

  47. may234 says:

She looks more mature than 31 y. o. so they don’t look ridiculous together. Obviously, they are happy!Congrats!

  48. Abby_J says:

I am not in love with the ring, but since it appears that she helped pick it out, I say whatever floats her boat! Not everyone wants the massive diamond ring. I sure didn’t!

The age thing doesn’t bother me. It seems like it is a normal thing in celebrity circles, so I’ll just roll my eyes and hope that there isn’t a divorce. I adore Jeff Goldblum, and would like to see him happy.

  49. DTX says:

31 ?!?!?!! I need to see the receipts!!!!

But in all fairness, she’s not exactly a spring chicken (well in general, not compared to him) and they seem quite happy. Good for them!

I usually don’t have a problem with age gaps, why should I care? They’ll be the ones having to deal with all the side-eyes and snickers and the younger partners will be the ones having to endure gross sex, not ME!!! ha ha! Carry on, girlfriend, carry on.

  50. bettyrose says:

I’ve never forgotten 80s Jeff Goldblum. He’s a forever dong.

  51. GeeMoney says:

At least she’s in her 30’s… that’s all I got.

  52. Jessiebes says:

I grew up in the 80’s and this post made me feel very old….

  53. Bread and Circuses says:

This is not, in any way, creepy.

She’s mature. She’s not some naive kid who is being manipulated; she’s an adult woman with life experience.

And he is clearly mature in his tastes, because she’s not some Barbie of plastic hotness; she’s a real-looking woman.

    Congratulations to them both!

  54. joan says:

After all the gossip about him going for underage girls, this seems confusing.

Could gossip perhaps be . . . wrong?

All those commenters slandering this guy?

As for her, not very good-looking. And it’s not just the hair. But gymnasts are “limber” so she’s got that going for her.

  55. m says:

If this is what a 31 year old woman looks like I have to buy new mirros.. I’m 32 and I dont look like a 40 somenthing. HECK NO!!!!!

  56. Mrs McCubbins says:

My sister married an older man and as far as I’m concerned she gave away her youth the day she married him. Now after years of marriage she’s going to have to nurse him til he dies and she’ll be too old to marry again. Then she’ll live out the rest of her life alone. I couldn’t do it nor would I want to be with an old guy until I’m old too.

  57. marie says:

she looks older, he looks younger, perfect match !

  58. Button says:

I have hung out with the two of them and they really are crazy about each other. They adore each other, and have been dating for a few years by now. She is a very fun, relaxed, good-hearted woman. They do seem to be a great match and in it for the long haul. They clearly have a ton of fun together. I don’t usually comment, but I just had to say something considering the various levels of snark 🙂

  59. jasmine says:

    she’s so not 31!! maybe 51

  60. Danni says:

My aunt is 31 who looks Forever 21. I know people age differently but still…that can’t possibly be a 31 yr old woman. I refuse!

  61. Jsimpson'sbestie says:

I’m 38 and I have loved Jeff Goldblum since I was like 12 and he was in Earth Girls Are Easy! So super sexy! She’s lucky, I’m sure his sauve intelligence is just totes irresistable!

  62. Kiki says:

She doesn’t look a day over 45!…and neither does he, sigh

  63. Liz says:

I suppose great, passionate sex is not that important to her. He obviously doesn’t seem to do anything to improve his stamina and performance. Ughhh that beer gut!

  64. LAK says:

You may not judge the age difference, but I will judge…..

  65. hmmm says:

Viagra rules the day. And is he scared of older women? Desperate, desperate man. And she should marry someone not her father’s age.

  66. kitty-bye says:

    Love Him!

  67. mazomazohyst says:

    First: I love Jeff Goldblum.
Second: I’d do him if I had the chance.
Third: Good for her. They look good together.

  68. Jillian says:

I feel so bad for that so many commenters have slammed her for her looks. How is that relevant?

  69. Mia says:

Isn’t she the one who was rumored to be a pro-domme? I think she is.
I love the ring AND Jeff, so good for her! You go girl, kick that old nice ass.

  70. Godwina says:

God. Goldblum in The Fly (pre-transformation) was SCORCHING. I encourage anyone into the menz to watch it, if they haven’t yet.

Alas, he no longer turns me old crank. I am an ageist bitch when it comes to pure objectification. But we’ll always have the 80s, Jeff!

  71. Kacy says:

James Wood called to ask why he was marrying such an old broad.
